I could just be being cold about it but really, it's all been said before. Go here and read why your fears of DOOOM are unfounded.
[/ QUOTE ]
Interestng, that thread seems to be locked now.
I have a problem with the logic here:
[ QUOTE ]
Youve heard it time and again: Cryptic doesnt care about City of Heroes or Villains. Theyre focused on Marvel. Were paying for the Marvel games development. They dissed City of Heroes in article X- they really dont care. Theyre diverting resources from CoH to MUO. The devs have said otherwise sure (see here, (Sep 27, 2006) and here ) but why would they be truthful about THAT?
The answer lies in the relationship between Cryptic and NCSoft and common business sense.
Most of us probably know that Cryptic started City of Heroes independently, then NCSoft gave them money to finish the project. NCSoft is the Publisher; Cryptic is the Studio. NCSoft hosts the servers, collects the fees, maintains the community support, does the marketing, and all that stuff. After all these costs (easily 60+% of the subscriptions), profits are likely split between Cryptic and NCSoft in ratios we dont know, but the publisher usually gets the lions share. (Sometimes, its as skewered as to be akin to paltry percentages that authors or musicians might see per unit sold).
One of these pre-profit costs is the continued development budget. This is different from profits, and comes out of a separate budget item. As Statesman explained, "NCSoft continues to fund a fantastic live team with lots of great stuff to come."
Cryptic supplies the live team, but NCSoft funds it.
It only makes sense when you think about it. Anything else would be too unreliable for a business decision. Cryptic is contractually bound to deliver fixes and new content to NCSoft based on regular payments by NCSoft for these services. They might occasionaly deliver MORE than what theyre paid for (but thats not great business sense) but theyd better not deliver less.
[/ QUOTE ]
I just can't buy that we will be getting content as good and as timely as we would be if Cryptic wasn't working on MUO.
I'm sure the deal with Marvel, as it comes when Cryptic is already maintaining a Hero based MMO, has clauses that anything made for MUO can't be put into CoH. So while Cryptic has to release content for CoX, they will be wanting to release content for their new technology, do all the things we couldn't do in CoX MUO. That makes more sense realisticly, contractually, and capitalisticly (yes, I'm making up words . . .)
It all really does depend on the contracts Cryptic has with NC Soft and Marvel/MS. And as none of us have seen those we can't really rest at ease in the knowledge that they have to update CoX, as even that may not be true . . .
Plus, think about this. If both the CoX team and MUO team are looking for new writers, artists, and programmers etc, and a wonder girl comic artist comes and applies for a job, her art is very unique, interesting and promises to coerce some wows out of gamer's mouths, which team do yo think will get her?
I think the only reason Cryptic can do this at all is because thier contract with NC can't control thier actions in this matter. The original contract may have not been that long term, and when it came time for renewal Cryptic already had planned the MUO deal and negotiated accordingly. Whether you are optomistic or pessimistic all you can do is speculate.
I think I am only being realistic here, and if you expect the worst all you can do is be pleasently suprised when things go better than you thought.
And just because I'm paranoid it doesn't mean everyone isn't out to get me! -

1. Is there something in place keeping me from binding to the non-numerical numpad buttons (such as the + or the / on the numpad)? I've tried this and they don't seem to do anything.
[/ QUOTE ]
Use /bind "add" or /bind "divide". It works for me.
[/ QUOTE ]
If you are wondering why it works that way it's because those characters are used in the CoX commant syntax.
/ = start command
+ = modifier for key press
" = start quote
etc
Not sure exactly which ones need to use the named options,
I guess it's all the ones that are named -
I can't be optimistic after reading that.
I don't think it's possible for one company to make 2 similar games and not favour one or the other.
THe only way I coudl see this working well if the Marvel Universe came out as an expansion, another city with the Marvel heroes. But that woudln't make sense for the story or from a business point of view, I'm sure Marvel doesn't want that anyway.
I don't know anyting about the contract between NC and Cryptic works, but I imagine there are ceratin minimum requirements for updates etc. I can see CoX getting the minimum done for it, maybe it is already.
I was with you with pretty much everything Statesman, except the implementation of ED, it doesn't diversify anything . . . . but I can't swallow that CoX won't be the worse with MUO on your table.
Oh well, hopefully there will be another gae to catch my interest soon.
I certainly won't be buying an Xbox or Vista if I can avoid it. And I think I can. -
I would say it's about generalization. People love to do it. White people can't dance, Asians love cameras, yada yada yada.
There is pretty high rates of crime in America.
If 5 of Americans commit violent crimes, and 50% of American's are gamers, 5% of those games commit violent crimes. If of those 5% of violent offenders 80% are gamers that looks liek a good stistic, unless you consider other factors. I bet of that 5% 99% watch TV, and at least 80% are religious. The fact that violent pooeple like violent images seems pretty solid. So it's not that gamers are often violent, it's that violent people are often gamers. -
My favourite quote about violence from a movie:
We grew up watching Leave it to Beaver and Father Knows Best and turned out to be the most violent drugged up generation ever
Not exact and dont recall which movie it came from now . . .
I read an excellent article on game violence on a gaming site linked to from this forum iirc.
It took data from an American government statistical source that in fact showed violence was going down! The journalist overlayed gaming moments in history, consoles coming out, certain violent games coming out. The whole graph showed a decrease in violent crimes per capita all the while games were becoming more popular.
He also pointed out something interesting. TV is losing to gaming. The game industry is causing Television stations and movie production companies to lose money. Is it any wonder you hear about violence in gaming on TV all the time. A clear case of the pot calling the kettle black, in this case the pot is in fact much worse in my opinion.
For every report stating violent games move people to violence there is another one saying the opposite, or that there is no indication either way. Then again reports generally say what people want it to say. The decrease in violence is a much better indicator. However the best sellers are sex and violence so you know that no matter how little violence there is you know it will be splattered all over the media.
I think for many games are a release for stress and aggression. Kinda like a punching bag. -
In Safeguard missions the mobs may be working like ambushes.
If Cryptic could trigger and ambush to go after Jimmy Hoffa they'd find him in a minute. -
I'm gonna have to go with Recall Friend too!
Requires none of my power slots, I get from mission to mission while I talk on the phone, chat, go for a bio break.
Sometimes it takes a while to get going but a kind word will get that poter to come back out of the mission door!
Seriously though, I actually agree with the above poster, Super Jump is the most fun.
Jumping from skyscrapper to Skyscrapper. Landing with a big thump in the midst of a grou of people.
Especially fun with Fire Armour as you feel like a leaping meteor.
I always choose my powers thematical, or less often based on the mez protection offered.
I really wish they would fix TP, it can be quite frustrating, and it can drain your end like nothing else at lower levels. The red target really kills it imao. -

To clear all current bindings from a key use the "nop" function.
There isn't a way to unmap a bind to a power.
You have to unmap the key.
[/ QUOTE ]
You can't unmap the key either. You can only bind the key to something else. Using "NOP" binds that to the key, but it doesn't actually leave the key unbound.
[/ QUOTE ]
Say what? Yeah, but "nop" is like nothing, it's not like you bind nop to 2 keys and then it tells you you you alread yhave it bound twice when trying to bind it again. You mean when you export it shows all the keys set to nop? I havent't noticed that. -
To clear all current bindings from a key use the "nop" function.
For example lets say Jump (+up) is bound to space and button5 bydefault:
bind space nop
bind button5 nop
bind space "powexecname Combat Jumping$$powexecname Super Jump"
There isn't a way to unmap a bind to a power.
You have to unmap the key. -
Nice guesswork!
A question, has a command been made to lock the power tray icons?
It would be nice to have one macro on my tray to lock and unlock, instead of having to go to the settings menu when I want to do a slight rearrange becuade I got a sweet temp power. -
Anyone know what hd to the Justice badge channels? JSBAS and JSMAS have been VERY quiet. Unless there's a villain version . . . can't see why though. Did Justice Badgers take off? Was hard to notice alerts with all the chat going on.

Need more soul brothers and sisters in here!
(edit: And look who posts right above me!) -
How about a command to lock the power tray?
That would be awesome! Especially if it was a toggle command like follow, you could make a macro to lock and unlock your tray! -

this doesn't sound right... you shouldn't be able to pick the number or even roll a 7... he may have edited a file in the piggs to allow him to do that or has a third party program allowing him to do that...
[/ QUOTE ]
That would only affect what he sees too. I think he's lying or talking about something else, like the number cards. -
The whole pointof that TP bind is to not see the reticle
Do this /bind lshift "powexecname teleport"
Hitting shift will turn the reticle on and off.
You will probably need to do this also /bind lshift+lbutton nop
Otherwise you may be trying to TP twice and it will cancel itself. -

<<Nebulous Form--replace phase with stealth/invis and eliminate timer.>>
I don't like this as a quality of life suggestion. We already get stealth (Shadow Cloak).
[/ QUOTE ]
What would you suggest then as a replacement for the power? It isn't very useful as-is.
[/ QUOTE ]
Shadow Cloak and NF combine to give you invis. If the phase effect popped in sooner it would still be a good panic button. As it is I can know I'm in trouble at more than half health hit it and still bite it before it kicks in, only facing a few opponents.
As for losing the phase without the rest of the travel brenefits, the non phase aspects could work like a timed click power, +flight speed for Q-Flight, +Jump for NF, +stealth for both. I'm sure that wouldn't be too hard to program for either. PBs wouls have to switch to their inherent flight, but with the +flight speed -

I hope these new powersets come out in I6. I for one would make and elec/elec tank right away.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think Electric melee has scrapper written all over it. Then again fire doesn't sound very tankish either. I'm hopin it's scrapper. To me it would have to be like dark or fire, a damaging set even as armour. Tanks don't need any more armours, scrappers do. -
I really would like ot know if I qualify.
It's pretty borderline if you look at my forum reg date. -

Binds
Is this channel at all active any more? I added it to my list of channels, and it seems quite dead.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, same here. Dropped it. -
I think there is also a Justice Taskforce,
not many people in there though.
Woulds be nice, been using JSBAS instead. -
I recomend going to the Bind thread. A lot of bind gurus offer help there. Try the "Binds" Global Channel in game.

Also remember that the Freakshow will work for anyone who provides sandwiches and a keg.

Say what? Sammiches? PnJ? Makin em sound like mamas boys. Then again, if they are former business men . . . yuppies gone over the edge? Maybe they would prefer a wrap and a wine cooler.
I can see it now.
Drek's road warrior vehicle pulls up beside Bile's.
Drek: Why excuse me, do you by any chance have any Grey Poupon? -
[ QUOTE ]
If you Attack, or are Hit - Critters see you.
[/ QUOTE ]
Sounds like this could happen.
Stealth move anywhere, run by one mob group, get spoted by one, as you are near another mob group you get hit by the former mobs attack, all the mobs in the next group see and attack you while you though you were safely out of agro range. Doesn't make sense to me. -
This is still the guide to bind, not much has changed there, however there is a thread with the latest Slash Command List
I guess we could do with an updated guide, then all the other examples would be lost, but, hey, who actually read the whole thread now?
