Low lvl game is TOTALLY SCREWED

Just think of The Hollows as the tutorial on XP debt

XP debt is not as big of a deal as it seams, and The Hollows will get you used to it.

I went down like 4 times last night with a level 6 tanker in the hollows, and you know what? I ended the night without any debt at all.

Plus, as previously stated, you don't have to do any missions past the police drones in The Hollows.

And since everyone who complains likes to list his or her personal time management situation here's mine:
I'm not a power-gamer. I work full time and go to school.

why? don't all hazard zones work that way? Crey's Folley, Rikti Crash Site, and Peregrine Island sure do.

There's like 15 thousand threads that are discussing the new "low level" game of CoH. The horse is dead Jim, I'm a doctor, not a vet!

You kinda have to if you're even half-way competent at playing the game, people who suck at it will call you a powergamer unless you specifically state otherwise (of course, that assumes they bothered to read what you said and didn't start writing their retarded rebuttal based on the first three words of your reply... a popular trend on the internet).

My complaints about the hollows have nothing to do with the spawns or the mobs.

My complaint about the Hollows is that people in there are even bigger KS-freaks than in Perez. I avoid both those zones like the plague because of the players, not the spawns. I don't think Statesman can make us take a maturity test before we enter the zone...

Heh I just now got back to baords since last post and wow alot more action than i thought this post would get. Heh well stickin with why i dont like the low lvl content anymore. I have realized that my first post was a bit on the false side. I did not know that you could skip this contact and go back to a different one. Well ok i did that and did good for 3 missions, then all of a sudden i get a timed mission, which just so happens to be in the HOLLOWS which i have come to HATE. Well i think to myself "maybe it will be close to an entrance, being that im only lvl 7 they would not put me too far away". Heh was i wrong it all the way across the zone. So i try and make it there and die once. Make the fun run from atlas hospital to try it again, die again. Long story short this will be the first mission that i fail while playing this game. I cannot and will not try to make this run again. I know the debt is hardly anyting at this lvl but this is just stupid. Ok rant over. I know i will get yelled at by the somewhat rude people on this boards, not all of you are rude but have seen some that would rather call me a moron or an idiot than just nicely tell me that im wrong. Ohh well thats life.

In the first few weeks of the game, I had a 90 minute timed mission in the middle of the forests of Perez Park when I was about level 11 or 12. It took me 45 minutes to get to the door (between becoming utterly lost and running away from level 15 bosses a lot). And I guarantee you that, at that level, it is easier to get to the far side of the Hollows than it is to go through PP's forest maze

Timed low-level missions in hazard zones may not be any fun, but they've always been there. Issue #2 has not changed this.

This whole thing is a little tilted!

Yes, the mobs in the hollows are harder to kill than say, PP.

But the exp is <UCH better as well.

I died 6 times in the hollows and well withing 1/2 an hour after finding a decent group to run with had recovered all debt + a good chunk of exp. This is at L11.

So yes, it is much harder but the reward is in sync with the risk. You can always go solo entire groups and bosses in PP if thats more your speed.

I levelled a new scrapper up to 7 yesterday on Test Server and the spontaneous spawns are occurring in all the lower level zones I travelled through. It was more noticeable in KR and Hollows because the mobs wouldn't con grey/green to me and would aggro towards me half the time (seems to be a short delay between spawning moment and ability to aggro - probably latency).

BTW, my experience with the current adjustment away from '+1 mobs' in missions on Test was positive. I played entirely solo up to level 7 and found most missions spawned even with my level, except for a couple of missions that spawned yellow minions up front, with some blue minions toward the end. The two missions with Bosses had them spawn as an orange. I plan to start up a new controller on Test to see what its like with less flexible options. Obviously, I didn't play around in the Hollows since I was flying solo. Positron mentioned that players will now get a fresh contact before being sent to visit the Hollows, and I found that to be true, giving me an option to do missions in KR or the Hollows at the same time.

Now then, half the missions would be nigh-impossible to solo even at level 3 or 4(due to time required/frustration) with a most controllers/some defenders. Even newbie blasters might have gotten bogged down. I remember things being a bit easier at launch so that I could tolerably solo even a Grav/Kin controller up to 7 or 8 without needing a teammate. I liked that, and it seemed a bit more friendly (pre-Update 2) to newbie players who might want to practice playing by themselves a bit before throwing themselves into the more-complex playstyle of team combat. The current situation on Test is still really close to forced teaming for a lot of builds, though, and I would offer my 2 cents that the dev's do not ramp up the difficulty in the beginner levels any higher. If I'm a newbie, I don't want to get bogged down in quagmire right out of the gate. If I'm a CoH veteran playing a new alt, I want the pace to be as peppy as possible until level 12 when it becomes a DO enhancement game.

All in all, so far the latest version of the game on Test works for me, a casual player who likes to play 10-15 hours a week, aside from the persistent bugs that I understand are being worked on.

Statesman,

I can confirm mobs in The Hollows spawning right on top of me when I am using Siphon Speed. I have died at least 200 yards away from such mobs twice. However, that is FINE with me. Again, PLEASE leave The Hollows fun the way it is now.

[/ QUOTE ]

IMO this is fine, and is easily rationalized by the fact that it's a DANGEROUS PLACE, and in the real world, enemies don't stnad still while you prep just out of aggro range.

I'd *love* to see Cryptic unlock the random baddies from their locations, so they can WANDER their turf, and increase their aggro range significantly within sight. No more fake staging/prep by gaming the game. People that's FAKEY!!!

If occasionally a group shows up around you, they snuck up on you. Happens all the time in comics that the hero is ambushed. Heck, my sg was hunting Perez last night and the only battle on the streets that was close was where we were regrouping and scattered and 2 of us got whomped by about 8-9 whites and a couple of yellows. Yikes, but it was FUN!

Of course then these forums would resound with a chorus of whines that the game is TOO HARD!

I have had this happen to me in PP before as well. It only happened to me when I was running. Running down the middle of the road and next thing I know I am stuck in a pack of gun happy Skulls. Got stuck in a pack of Trolls in the Hollows the same way, running down the road. Have not had them pop on top of me while standing still.

Off topic here but since this was brought, up i've had numerous mobs in Founders Falls do the same thing. Especially with the CoT's. In the Red river (i think its called) area of FF, where you can run under the overpasses, everytime i go through one of the overpass tunnels it never fails that a group of CoT's appear around me and i'm toast, usually burnt toast with the behemoth lords

I mean, its all either new subscribers who we dont want around anyway, or folks interested in trying a new AT out, who should be back playing their main toon and only their main toon.

[/ QUOTE ]

We dont want new people playing the game? What the hell kind of attitude is that?

Secondly, I HAVE been playing my primary heroes. I have a lvl 15 defender and a lvl 15 controller, and both have them have gotten their assess kicked soloing, in a duo, and in 3 differnt groups as large as 6 people in the 3rd hollows mission. The game has become ridiculously hard.

Not everyone is a jobless high-school kid with endless amounts of time to game. The game was just right before, and it is now so hard that my wife and I don't enjoy it anymore. Maybe you don't care, but then, fortunately, you are not in business, because an attitude like yours would be a disaster for any company.

Nice. Try that same feat with a lvl 15. You'll feel differently.

I think the Hollows are pretty good as is, it is a hazard zone after all. I only have two complaints really.

1. It isn't really clear that you don't have to take the missions from Wincott. I have spoken to many players in game that think you have to complete them in order to complete the initial "speak to that person" mission. Just make it clearer to the players that Wincott is just a new contact and not part of a larger mission.

2. There seems to be a great deal of lag in the Hollows, I don't know the reason for this, but it is very common for me to run into groups of bad guys that just seem to "spawn" right in front of me. I have died a couple of times like this. I would be just running along and bam! This only happens to me in the Hollows and no where else.

Other then those two items, I think the Hollows is a rather fun place to go for a little excitment at lower levels.

Ok I'm convinced that states is trying to fix things now. I'll stop complaining and wait patiently for the fix. Then because it is my nature i'll complain about something else!

I just wanted to add my two cents in that I really like how the Outcasts and Trolls aren't just another generic gang... It adds a lot to the flavor of the game, and that's something I really enjoy.

[/ QUOTE ]

I completely agree. Don't get rid of their new powers! I think it gives them a great flavour, much more so than they had before.

[/ QUOTE ]
One more player's voice in favor of keeping the powers and cutting the damage. By the time I reach the hollows I want to take on some super-powered bad guys instead of simple punks with guns; if we can just make the damage consistant with the level of those fighting them, I'll be a happy happy hero.

Statesman,

Please do NOT tone down The Hollows any further. The noobs and smacktards have the other zones to run in. I started a controller along with some friends and we ran over the weekend. It was hard but very satisfying and we got to between 10th and 14th level.

The zone is a team zone. You CANNOT solo there until you have basically out-level'd the content. The only thing the devs need to do is make that fact more univerally understood. In the current state this zone is EXACTLY what CoH has been needing.

[/ QUOTE ]

Your right it is a team zone. And it SHOULD stay the way it is. Its a perfect zone to teach the low levels how to team and the "veterans" that have alts there. I laughed for a long time when i was in a group in the hollows with my controller and all in the group said they had high level main toons. The worst part of it was it was the worst group i had ever played in. Not to mention that after 1 defeat half, yes half, of the group made up excuses to leave or just plain quit.

Oh and soloing the hollows can be done! i do it daily with my controller. Yes my controller. The only mission i haven't been able to solo so far is the "disarm 2 bombs at the same time" mission.

[/ QUOTE ]

Preach on. I love the game (and the Hollows) exactly the way it is now. Difficulty is just right. Sure, it's tougher, but you get out of debt that mush faster and level like crazy.

I bet I'm not the only one hoping the "+1 bug patch" is in itself buggy and takes quite a while to go live.
