Quote:I think you mean the utterly excellent Sid Meier's Alpha CentauriI'm actually reminded of one of the Civilization games, which gave you I think three or four name boxes for your civilization leader. One was his name, one was the name used when people address him, one was his name in the possessive form and one I don't remember. Having something like this as optional, uh... Options at character creation or by accessing your ID screen post creation, with tooltips, would be very welcome.

Quote:{five hours later}So basically they're turning the Darkness Induced Audience Apathy up to 11?
DAMMIT VENTURE. Don't spring links to that site on unsuspecting audiences! -
Quote:Er, creating a steam account /is/ free. No subscription involved, and you can add as many friends as you like.Indeed. That's what I do in City of Heroes
Even Steam does that, by the way. You can make a free account and stuff it full of free titles, but that account can't have any Steam friends, meaning it's impossible to join your friends' games a lot of the time, especially on games that don't offer you a choice in who you play with and what task you play. -
To complete the experiment, be sure to include empyrical data on whether you felt your purchases were money well spent.

Thanks for the advice, PW, even if it still didn't answer my original question -- the answer to which turns out to be "No; the resulting file refuses to load".
And no, I was already dividing the clue text up between glowies, but I'm not willing to send my group on a twelve-clicky scavenger hunt even if it wouldn't be an utter pain to carve the text up that badly; three research files and one diagram graphic is about as far as I'm willing to go.
The end-of-mission clue suggestion /might/ be helpful if I cut the story up into two missions. Maybe. -
That's not what I asked.
I'm only doing this as a single mission and I don't see any net benefit from stretching the event out over several missions, so the longer end-of-mission clue length is irrelevant.
I suppose I could just compile the narrative as text files and end each clue with "You record the remainder of this text into Adventure Log Entry #3..." -
I've searched the forum but couldn't find any threads that looked like they might answer this.
I'm working on a simple AE mission that's slightly high on the exposition -- it's meant to be a group RP event for my ingame friend group and explain what one of my characters has been up to lately and explaining her Incarnate powerup -- and the 300-character maximum text length of the clues is /incredibly/ frustrating.
Right now I'm away from my gaming computer (day job) but I had a thought - is it possible to get around this limit by using a regular text editor to edit the mission file and expand the clue text? -
We already understood what you're talking about. That's why we're saying it's a bad idea.

Quote:Exactly this. If the press has a problem with my decision, they can go and tell the family of those five people that I should have let them die.Theres the dilema right there, the word of "probably".
Just what kind of hero would let a villain get away with a nuke because they thought they "probably" wouldnt use it right away. If anything, the hero would be slaughtered by the media as the one who more or less gave the OK to the villain.
Meanwhile, I'll be a tad busy hunting down the murderous villain who now has a nuke and making sure he won't get a chance to use it. -
According to word from on high, the devs all play regularly - just not with their redname accounts.
So that PUG STF you were on the other day, with the remarkably well-behaved blaster? Might've been a dev. Or that controller with the crazy sense of humor that joined your trial league at the last minute. Or maybe even one of the sillier-clad scrappers lining up for that costume contest the other day.
... They Are Among Us. -
This idea needs to be floated up every now and then so that it can be thoroughly shot in the head and put back down.
Still /unsigned.
Separate server = separate codebase = more possibility of bugs = longer turnaround time = do not want. -
Quote:Incorrect. It'd take about three to four hours, spread out more or less evenly over the space of slightly more than a week. That'd mean it'd take 160 hours to unlock say, interface, leaving you with 10 threads left over.
To get the common? 45 minutes a day for roughly ten days.
Yes, grinding the hell out of trials can get you the same result in about three or four hours in one day, but that's not counting the amount of time it takes to get a league formed up (or the LFG queue to fill).
So yes, in terms of actual calendar time it's significantly longer, but in terms of /play/ time, not nearly so much. -

Unsigned. 'pl meh' crowds can be quite easily ignored, and I prefer not to have to break up a team of friends because some of them are below an arbitrary level to come along.

Out of curiosity, how many of the original posters are the same ones who always kept complaining they didn't feel 'super' enough?

I can't wait to chastise ne'er-do-wells with the latest in pantaloon transmogrification technology.

And Scalzi's Law regarding the failure state of 'clever' is in full effect.

"FIRST WARNING, XXXX" -- You're not trying hard enough to hold Siege/Nightstar's aggro. Taunt them some more before they start hurting the squishies!
"SECOND WARNING, XXXX" -- Quick! Time for a group hug with the largest cluster of allies you can get to while still taunting! -
... So you want to replace one of the two most common calculations the server has to perform from a simple multiplication to an exponential function and you call it "mathematically easy"?

Why make an entirely new powerset for this?
Add the animations as an option for the Forcefield and/or Sonic Bubbles in the power customization.
