Quit thinking of yourself as a team support player or an "upside down" defender. That's highly limiting to your role.
Think of your secondary as being there SOLELY for your own use. Fire/Dark....Tar Patch is there to hold the critters while you drop Rain of Fire and Fireballs on their heads. Ice/Time....TJ +softcapped defense is there so you can tank-n-spank by herding and dropping Ice Storm and Blizzard all by yourself. And your heals (if you have them) are there as YOUR heals first and foremost. No "Gather for AM!" or worrying about buffing individuals. You buff when the power helps you, or you have nothing else to do (which should be very, very rare if you follow the above advice).
Now by doing these things you ARE bringing assistance to the team in that stuff is dying faster and everyone is earning more xp at a faster rate. But you aren't the supporting cast with your secondary...they are there to make your killing more efficient and harder hitting. I do really selfish things (to a Defender mindset anyways) like skipping my buff other powers unless I have no other useful power choices. But I slot the heck out of the powers I do take for my own damage, defense and recharge efficiency which correspondingly helps the team by making me a better killer.
That change in mindset is liberating and for me made me LOVE the corrupter class. And you'll start slotting differently too, choosing powers not for their support utility but rather for their ability to strengthen your offense. And your teams will be totally shocked when they realize that YOU can tank, YOU can hold aggro and by sticking close to you their own defense and damage output is multiplied greatly. Its the perfect team scenario....by being your best solo, you are helping the team.
Sounds weird maybe but I suggest you try it. I've T4'd out more than 10 toons on Incarnate trials now, and 5 of those are Corrupters. Easily one of the most powerful toons in the game when built properly to maximize their OWN efficiency.
My current recommendations for power-gamer Corr builds are Fire/Dark (tried and tested) or Ice/Time (inexpensive IO slotting and you can cap defense to EVERYTHING and still retain 190%+ global recharge. Seriously.) With either build...you can Tank almost as good as a Tanker but with debuffing and your AOE's drop down death like a Fury-induced Brute or a suicidal blaster on crack.
Edit: Dark sounds good, I've played it a little before on a mastermind, and I liked it. I'm not really familiar with what time brings to the table. Traps might be good too. My first character ever in this game was a fire/devices mastermind, and it would be fun to remake him, but less sucky. -
Since the day I heard about them, I liked the idea of corruptors. I've always loved blasters, and been annoyed by their squishiness. The idea of trading in my (largely useless) manipulation secondary for a nice support secondary to help keep me alive has always been attractive to me.
In practice though, I've never liked them for some reason. A lot of the support sets don't fit my playstyle well. I mostly play on medium to large teams, and constantly healing people or putting shields up on them bugs the crap out of me. I love kinetics (I've got a couple of /kin controllers) but I don't like playing up in melee with a corruptor. And every time I try to play one, every time I attack I keep saying to myself 'if this was a blaster, i'd be doing so much more damage'.
So I come to you, the forumites, with the hopes that someone can suggest something for me to try that I'd like. I WANT to like corruptors, I just don't seem to be able to. I want something that is near blaster levels of damage, but more survivable, and doesn't focus heavily on buffing or healing. Does such a thing exist? -
I've decided on my next High-end build. A dark/shield scrapper. I want him to be capable of soloing AVs, as well as handling incarnate content without too many problems. Goals for the build are Softcapped positional defenses, perma-hasten, and enough added mitigation tools to deal with the higher base to-hit of praetorian critters. The build below meets those criteria, but I'd like advice on whether it can be improved any. Price isn't really an issue.

That's not entirely true. You can't get them directly, but you do get merits from them, which can buy IO recipes and salvage.

I've been away from the game for a few months, and came back a couple weeks ago. Ever since I came back, I've noticed something irritating about the forums. I CANNOT stay logged in. It doesn't matter whether I click the 'stay logged in' checkbox or not, every time I close my browser, the next time I open it, I have to log into the forums again. Is this a known issue or has anyone else had to deal with it?
Is there a fix for it? -

Six slots is not a waste for 2.5% defense to all positions, considering that many attacks get 6-slotted with otherwise underperforming sets (touch of death for instance) for 3.75% defense to one position, and I have the slots available.

No, you simply don't realize why it's slotted the way it is. It's there to keep me alive during AV fights, which means I need it to recharge quickly, heal quite a bit, and not get interrupted when I need to use it. The slotting I used meets those goals, and gets me some nice set bonuses besides.

This is the same point as number 4, and my rebuttal is the same. The regen becomes necessary when soloing AVs.
No, it's slotted just enough for what I need it for. I can sustain endurance indefinitely, so I don't need more recovery out of it.

I'm not saying you have to use my build, or that mine is the best fire/sr build out there. I know for a fact that it could be improved upon. I'm simply trying to point out that your build has quite a lot of room for improvement, and show you one of the many ways it can be done. -

However, the new things which I notice are:
You still have more defense than you need. The softcap for normal content is only 45%. I would suggest getting rid of the Agility alpha (you don't need the defense or recharge really) and get musculature for more damage. You'd be slightly under on AoE defense then, but you could fix that by adding the rest of the performance shifter set to stamina for the AoE defense bonus.
You don't really need all 6 pieces of the purple sets in GFS and FSC, leave out the straight damage pieces of both of them since the added damage buff to the powers from those two slots is so small, and the 6-piece set bonus isn't worth it. That's where you get your two extra slots for stamina. The Gausian's proc in buildup is kind of a waste too unless you're going to put the entire set in there for the defense bonus. That proc is only really useful if you have a toggle to-hit buff like tactics or focused accuracy, since then it has a chance to fire much more often. -
I thought I'd also share with you my fire/sr build. He has sustainable endurance, hasten to within a couple seconds of perma without the spiritual alpha, softcapped (for normal content) to all positions and elude to make up the difference in incarnate content. He uses hecatomb and armageddon sets, but you could swap those out for crushing impact and obliteration respectively. If you do that I'd probably move a slot out of fire sword and put it in fire sword circle so you can slot the whole obliteration set in it, and then five-slot crushing impact into fire sword. You've only lost 5% global recharge that way, and the build is much cheaper. It also doesn't have a travel power, but you could remove assault from the build and replace it with one if you wanted.

You're in for a real treat man. I've got a fire/SR and he is my favorite character I've ever made. He absolutely tears through pretty much anything.
I took a look at the build. I'm not entirely sure what you're building for, it looks like defense and recharge. It would also help to know your goals. Do you want to solo AVs? Just play on teams at high levels and such? And what is your budget. I notice you don't have any damage purples slotted, are they out of the question?
The first thing I notice about your build is that you have either too little or too much defense. You don't have enough to reach the softcap for incarnate content, and you have quite a bit over the softcap for normal content. Since it is impractical to reach the incarnate softcap for all 3 positions, I would suggest lowering your defense to just over 45%.
At that point you can do one of two things. You can take elude. My fire/SR has it, and it's great for incarnate content. Pop that and you're back to being pretty much invincible again, at least until it crashes. The other option is just to keep purples with you and pop them when you need them. Either way, I'd get rid of some of the defense stuff you have slotted in the build since you'll need to use one of those options to reach the softcap anyway.
Next issue. You have just slightly too little recharge in Greater fire sword to use the best single-target attack chain available to fiery melee (GFS-incinerate-cremate). You'll have a very slight gap the way you've currently got it built. This could be fixed by replacing the touch of death set in GFS with crushing impact.
The next problem I see is that you can't sustain endurance. For the GFS-incinerate-cremate chain, you'll be using 3.93 endurance/s and only regaining 3.4, meaning you'll run out of endurance in a little over 3 minutes. This one is harder to fix. You probably won't be able to slot enough endurance reduction into stuff to get to sustainable endurance. If you don't mind popping blues on a regular basis, then it's no big deal. To fix it, you'd probably need to swap blaze mastery out for body mastery. That would give you access to both conserve power and physical perfection, which would solve your problems.
You've got some (IMO) wasted power picks as well, and some bad slotting in others. Two travel powers seems to be a big waste of powers, especially on a character that doesn't really need any (swift+quickness+ninja run gives you superjump levels of run speed). Maneuvers is also unnecessary, since you can easily get to 45% defense at all positions without it. The microfilament in quickness is a waste of money, just use a level 50 run speed IO, since quickness doesn't have an endurance cost. A single level 50 recharge is fine in practiced brawler, the EPS of it is really low as it is, so you don't need the endurance reduction in there. If you remove some of the extraneous defense in your build, you'll be able to put more recharge in and get rid of the 4th recharge in hasten. Health is underslotted, and at least 2 more slots should be added (regenerative tissue and numina's heal are best). The kismet +accuracy isn't needed. Instead you should replace the endredux IOs in focused fighting, focused senses, evasion, and weave with the LotG def/end/rech to get the 9% accuracy set bonus. You only need 1 slot in superspeed, with quickness and swift I'm pretty sure you can hit the run speed cap without enhancing it. -
Fiery aura is a very fun set. My favorite melee set actually. It definitely hits hard, being fire and all. I'm not 100% on this, but I believe that it has the best single-target DPS except at very high levels of recharge, where dark melee edges it out by a hair.
It actually has 2 AoEs, but one (fire breath) is a very narrow cone, and generally regarded as not worth taking. Fire sword circle is very good though.
All in all, fire's a great set, and you won't be disappointed with it. It will definitely drop things quickly. The only real downside to it is that it adds absolutely nothing to survivability. -
There isn't really a 'best' thing to slot in it. It kind of depends on what you need most.
If you need regeneration, then a regenerative tissue +regen is the best choice.
If you need recovery, then Miracle +recovery is the best choice.
If you need a little of both, then Numina's Convalescence +regen/recovery is best.
Neither the regenerative tissue or the numina's are significantly better for regeneration than a single level 50 heal IO though. -
I'd actually rather they went the other way with it. I don't particularly want to have to go all the way to villain and then back to hero on some characters just so I can pick up a patron pool that I want.

The idea kind of falls apart when you consider that a lot of the enemies we fight aren't human, and that some don't even have bodies at all. It also doesn't seem to really distinguish itself from martial arts and street justice.

The question that really has to be asked is are there any changes that can be made to AE that will result in more people using it as intended? If so, then it might be beneficial to do so. If not, then spending more time trying to improve it is a waste of time and money on the devs' part.
And unfortunately it's looking like the answer is no. None of the changes the devs have made to AE since it came out have resulted in more people using it. It's a shame, because it has amazing potential, but for whatever reason, people don't seem to take to it very well. -

My wife and I just came back to the game after a few months away, and found that leveling pacts were no longer working. It was kind of a bummer, because we almost always pacted our characters so we could stay in sync leveling up.
Was there any particular reason they got rid of them? And is there any indication whether they're ever coming back? -
Force field. I had one and played it up to maybe level 20, it was the most boring character I've ever played.
Empathy. I have one at level 50, but I almost never play it.
I'm really torn on super reflexes. My single favorite character is a fire/sr scrapper, and I absolutely love him. Playing SR to 50 though was brutal.
Masterminds. I love the concept, I hate playing them. Every single one makes it into the low-mid 30s and gets deleted. -
Please don't. Statesman should have gone the way of the dodo LONG ago. Now that he's finally dead and gone, let's leave him that way.

I picked it up on my dark/shield scrapper to give him some extra AoE, since he's a bit light on it otherwise. It's sort of like a shield charge lite.
