I have never attempted this, but if I were to attempt it, I would use the Bright pallet. I would make the center of the effects an off-white option of the yellow, orange, or purple variety (whatever looks more correct). Then I would most likely choose one of the less-vibrant hue options (usually on the left side of the customization options, if memory serves) for the peripheral effects.
If you manage to come up with something vaguely resembling it, post a screenshot! -

I have to be up front here: I nearly stopped reading right there. 13TH?! How anyone can run any piece of content 13 times in a row is beyond my comprehension. Then again, in a manner befitting Voltaire, I may not agree with how you play the game, but I firmly believe that you have the right to play any way you wish.
As for your teammates... yikes. Quite literally "get your heads in the game." -
Hi Olga!
In general, the "Help" channel is a good place to find ready and willing teammates on any server. Try clicking on the channel name at the left of the chat box (the lower left box) and choosing "Help," then typing your message. You will be able to read others responses in your chat box. -
I have gotten damn close, with one level 50 and one that is just now a few bars away. I mean, to the point where the delete screen was open, the name was typed in, and I was hovering the mouse over "OK." But then I remember the character's concept, and how much I enjoyed coming up with it. I remember all the good times that I had while playing that character, and the amount of time I spent getting to know the ins and outs of his powers. I remember that new content is constantly being added to this game, and there could very well be a piece of content perfectly suited for him coming in the not too distant future. And I move the mouse pointer to "Cancel."
Until I run out of character slots and run out of free character transfers and (for whatever reason) cannot wait until the next monthly one drops, I do not think I will ever be deleting a 50. All but one of my 50s took at least 3 months to get there, and the one exception I made was due to character reasons more than anything else. I enjoy putting a good deal of time in getting a character to 50, and once I have done that, I just do not see the point in removing the symbol of that time and effort, even if it is just bits of data. -
Quote:I believe he was referring to the number of jet pack models we already have in the game: Raptor pack, Holiday/Longbow pack, Wyvern pack, Gold-Bricker pack, the LKT-1700 Rocket pack, and I may be forgetting one or two others. If these could be converted to costume pieces that were present 100% but only had the boosters/propellers active when a flight power was active (much like the Rocket Boots), many of the people (like myself) pushing for a more generic-looking pack would be satiated.Zero is more than enough?
Are you suggesting that the game would also work with negative numbers of Jet packs?
Granted, I do not know how difficult of a task the conversion would be, I am just saying that if it had already been done, I would have voted B instead of A because we would have already had some more modern-looking pack models available. -
I have a number of characters on whom I have found very fitting badges, some by accident (Phalanx Falcon, below, was actually the first character on whom I found the "Phalanxer" badge). Here's a few I can remember off the top of my head.
"Lord of Winter" for Winterminal
"Cold Warrior" for Wintervention
"Manticore's Associate" on my Arch/Dev character who is supposed to be Manticore's apprentice.
"Bright Star" on my intergalactic peace-keeping PB
"Phalanxer" on my Shield/SS tanker, Phalanx Falcon -
Standard Code Rant
The watch idea, if implemented, would have to appear for every one of the powers, much like Ice Sword or Fire Sword summons the sword upon activation. It could not work the way the weapon system works. Granted, if it were a stationary piece on a Gloves costume piece, that would work. However, then you are met with the counter argument: what if my "gadgeteer" isn't James Bond and doesn't want his powers emanating from a watch, but rather something different?
For your character concept, Energy Manipulation actually sounds more easily justifiable than almost any other Blaster Secondary save for Devices. You have 4 passive clicks (Build Up, Conserve Power, Power Boost, Boost Range), all of which can just be written off as things your character or equipment does naturally. As for your actual powers, if you choose the "Bright" option, but with a darker color, the power effects are less prominent, and may intrude on your concept less. Or, since we are talking about using gadgets, which implies some modicum of technological prowess in the character, slap a couple of tech-y looking gloves on him and make them power gauntlets capable of brief energy bursts at close range.
At a certain point, imagination has to come into play. New animations for every single power set in the game is just a bit too "out there" for serious consideration, especially when the majority of the player base would probably rather have that animation design time devoted to new power sets. -
Paint me surprised! Though I could not attend, I was told that we had enough players to fill roughly 4.5 full teams. I admit, I expected even lower numbers due to the Super Bowl (the reason I was not there). But hey, glad that we could still make it happen! Next week should be back to normal, hope to see you there!

Quote:Don't get me wrong, I agree with this. Again, on every other poll up there right now, I have voted for the rendering most reminiscent of "retro sci-fi."Exactly, which is why more generic costume pieces should go in as regular updates, and more specific ones should be for pay, as then users can opt out if they don't want them.
Since this is a paid set (right?), then I say bring on the Jetson rings!
The only piece I'm contesting is the jet pack, simply because we do not yet have any jet pack costume pieces. That being the case, a "jet pack" costume piece would probably be considered "premium/special" no matter what genre it is from. Any back details that have not been capes or wings released since Freedom launched have been put on the Paragon Market (or have been T9 VIP).
Long story short: if they put a jet pack costume piece out there that requires no other monetary investment except my subscription, I'll be happy to vote for the rings. Until that happens though, I would rather the first jet pack costume piece available be a bit more generic in design. -
Quote:The more specifically a costume piece is designed, the more specific your target demographic is going to become.I agree with this. I don't want to compromise just for the sake of functionality and re-usability -- I want something that looks cool, that looks like it's supposed to look!
There have already been several costume packs that I have skipped because I have no interest in their design/theme (Steampunk, Gunslinger, and Carnival of Light come to mind). I've purchased one or two items from a given set (gunslinger pants and sleeves, Steampunk vest) but not the entire thing because the pieces are so specific that I have no use for them. That is not to say that they are poorly designed, in fact my opinion is quite the opposite, I just do not need that specific a look for any character (at least currently).
A jet pack with Jetson-rings is very specific, and while I am sure it would look quite cool, I would have very few characters (none currently existing) on whom I would use it, and therefore would be unlikely to purchase it. I am sure I am not the only one of that opinion, and that ends up being a loss of potential revenue for them.
Again, I'm all for staying true to concept, and I am only referring to the jet pack when I say that a more general design would probably be more desirable across the entire player population. -
Quote:WIN! I'd love a jet pack like that.I have saved your image for later reference, it's not retro, but it is cool. You can console yourself by knowing it's in our thoughts.
As for the poll, I voted A. Seems the most versatile, and I would rather devote what time they have to making a costume-piece jet pack to something I can use across multiple concepts, as opposed to something specifically styled for Retro Sci-Fi.
Honestly, I like the rings on all of the other costume polls save for this. If there is one piece in the set that should be more general in design, it should be this one considering how long people have been requesting it. -
I voted A, for the same reasons. Yes, the rings on B are awesome... IF I am making a retro sci-fi spaceman. But for cruising around the city with my modern character that has been surviving off of Raptor Packs purchased via Firebase Zulu, I would very much like a rocket pack that looks more general. (ESPECIALLY if the jets on A fold up when not in flight!)
-
Tough choice. I like the sleekness of C, but A or B seem more practical. Hmm...
-
Yup. I did this with my Archery/Devices blaster. I created him when I first joined the game, discovered how much I love blasters, and created about 4 of them at once, but then didn't get around to playing him much until over a year after that. Originally a concept I was fond of but not sure if I would like playing it, he became a favorite.
There's a reason that I am still interested in this game despite it being the only video game I play. -
Definitely one of the best raids we have had! The attack on the grates and the bomb placement was very well coordinated, and fast too. A big "thank you" to those who helped get that done so that everyone got their fair share of credit for defeating U'Kon Gr'ai. 6 full teams, and only a handful of disconnects. Very fun night, Pinnacle! If you were there, thanks for coming out!

Though, kudos for using the search tool before posting something similar.
Paynesgray, I suggest checking out the Issue 22 Overview on the main site. Dark Astoria is being completely revamped into an Incarnate zone based around solo and small teams progress. The Devs listened, so this thread can stay dead. -
Quote:This is huge. One of the most interesting about Pistols (from Dual Pistols) is that there are 4 (or 5?) animations for it that just fire at random. Since that is the fastest recharging power, and therefore the most used on many characters, it is more interesting to see a different animation fire off at any one time. The same can be said for Quick Strike (Kinetic Melee), Initial Strike and Heavy Blow (Street Justice), and others that I am sure I am forgetting. That kind of thing makes the game interesting, and on T1 and T2 attacks, it would be more dynamic to have characters using different animations for those every time they fired off.I'd like to see every attack alternate hands where applicable.
Example: Dark Melee Siphon Life and Midnight Grasp are both left handed only attacks. Both should have right handed animations added so that either hand would be used during an attack chain.
Same goes for almost all attacks that are single handed in this game. I believe shadow punch, brawl and claws swipe are some of the few exceptions. -
I actually don't mind that particular animation, in fact I rather like it. But I feel it should do more damage. That is the animation I would like to see for Ripper, the current animation of which I think is dumb. Then make the animation for Barb Swipe that of Swipe or Strike from the Claws set.
-
There has been a shift in animation design since about when Dual Blades came out. Fluidity, both in animation and in transition from one animation to the next, is taking a much higher precedent. As a quick example: just the other night I was fiddling in the character creator on Beta, and marveling at the difference in animation between Staff Fighting's "Sky Splitter" and Katana's "Golden Dragonfly." Both are two handed attacks where the character jumps and brings the weapon down in front of them, but Golden Dragonfly jumps about half the height of Sky Splitter, almost as if it was designed to be executed by a samurai in heavy armor, as opposed to a light-weight and fast ninja.
I attribute this to pop culture over the past 10 years or so, and how combat has changed in that time. The Matrix ushered in a new era of wire-fighting, detailed, single-sequence combat that was not overly present before that. You look at a movie like 300, and you see continuous fight sequences for just under a minute without a single film cut.
Perhaps the best example is the difference between lightsaber battles between the first Star Ward trilogy (IV, V, & VI) and the second (I, II, & III). The older ones resemble our current broad sword animations, while the newer runs remind me more of Dual Blades in their quickness and flow.
In terms of new animations, I think Katana/Ninja Blade and Claws could do with some new stuff. Sets like Broad Sword, War Mace, Battle Axe, and most of the punch-n'-stuff sets (ice melee, fire melee, dark melee) are fine because the look is pretty on-par with what you might expect.
As for new effects, that's a much larger pool of powers. Ice Armor is on the top of my list of "Sets I hope they look at sooner rather than later" but I am not getting my hopes up. -
I always recommend the Hollows arcs (Wincott, Flux, Julius, and Talshak). Some good stories, cool maps, and plenty of xp. Though you're already in Kings Row, so that's probably moot for you.
I've tried a variety of arcs from 10-20, but nothing that has stuck in my memory.
Once you get to 20-30, I highly recommend checking out First Ward (provided you have access to it). Solo, it can carry you almost the entire way (provided you clear your missions). While teamed, you will probably have to turn off xp eventually. It is a beautiful zone with some really interesting (if sometimes convoluted) story lines.
Welcome back! -
Quote:You mean how every single character you make has to do Levantera's beginning arc to get the Member of Vanguard badge and thus receive Vanguard Merits? Or how every single character you make has to defeat the 14 Praetorians for the Dimensional Warder Badge, or go through all 6 Freedom Phalanx TFs for the Task Force Commander accolade?A poorly written, poorly designed, and all-around asinine story arc that pits you against one of the game's most annoying enemy factions and has to be run with every single character you make if you have even the slightest interest in doing Cimeroran content (including one of the game's most popular pastimes in the ITF) or IIRC any of the other Midnighter arcs.
Outside of the Incarnate stuff, that's about as onerous as it gets in this game.
This is nothing new. This is not a slap in the face. This is the Devs removing an exploit. Get a team of 8 together, run the arc at the same time making sure that everyone checks in with Montague after each mission, and everyone on the team does the arc once. It is now the same as every other arc in the game.
Yes, we have lost a convenience for those who did not want to run the whole arc, but the arc still functions like any other mission arc. -
While this is coming... do we really need other repeatable trials detracting from the rest of the game's content? There are tons of worthwhile story arcs to be played, story arcs that have the added side effect of showing the player the rest of the game. If you spend all of your time in the same repeatable instances, you miss a lot of the game and may end up ignorant to the existence of many things by the time you hit 50.
I'm not knocking anyone's play style, most of us want to be as super as possible as fast as possible, but I do encourage people to get out of the sewers and experience the rest of the city. -
Sorry. I'm holding out for the "cheetah-with-a-rocket-attached" travel power.[/QUOTE]
Cheetah-with-a-rocket-booster-strapped-to-its-back? Then you have to call the character Epson Workforce Pro -
I'm over the one-off travel powers. I skipped the carpet, I'm skipping this.
Let's shift the time and effort going into these one-offs into customization options for our existing travel powers. We're almost 6 issues past when power customization was introduced, and was nearly universally loved. Incarnate abilities have customization options, it is time for APPs and Power Pools to receive the same treatment.
As I said in another thread, I'm a sucker for sales. I already have the Beast Run power thanks to the Animal Pack, but if I did not, I would be inclined to buy it. As of now, I am waiting for the Circle of Thorns set, Steampunk set, and Street Justice power set to go on sale. When that happens, my points will fly from my account
