Had another 'ilovethisgame!' fit today.
Yup. I did this with my Archery/Devices blaster. I created him when I first joined the game, discovered how much I love blasters, and created about 4 of them at once, but then didn't get around to playing him much until over a year after that. Originally a concept I was fond of but not sure if I would like playing it, he became a favorite.
There's a reason that I am still interested in this game despite it being the only video game I play.
@Winter. Because I'm Winter. Period.
I am a blaster first, and an alt-oholic second.
an emp that solos well?
they must have really improved defender soloing since I tried it last
Well, solo defenders do +30% damage, and sonic has a resistance debuff in the attacks, not to mention a fat cone sleep and a single target stun. I would think /sonic would be about the best option for a solo empath.

Current active characters: Dragon Maiden (50+3 Brute SS/WP/PM), Black Widow Maiden (50+1 Night Widow), Catayclasmic Ariel (50 lvl Defender - Kin/DP), Quantumshock (50 lvl Elect/Energy/Energy), American's Defender (38 lvl Tanker - SD/Mace), Spider-Maiden (15 lvl Corruptor - RB/PD) & Siren Shrike (15 lvl Defender - Sonic/Sonic). My entire stable.
Emp defenders can not only solo, they can do it pretty safely, being chock full of healing goodness. It's just a bit slow is all. My emp/rad is quite effective on the SSA #1, much better than many others of my characters playing at level 20.
I found the Thunderstrike attack (in electric epics) to be quite a nice little gem in terms of damage, too.
Mine came yesterday after we completed all five of the SSA missions. With Statesman dead, the others of left afterwards. However, my character, Quantumshock stayed and paid his last respects. I am proud of the fact that before Darin Wade bounced out, I faced him alone without my teammates for 15 seconds driving his HP down to less than 2/3rds when the rest showed up.
It was at that moment that I experienced my reason I love this game. My character vowed to see Wade pay for his treacherous cowardly actions in murdering a great hero regardless if others liked him or not. The clarity of action and focus makes things a bit clearer when you face things like that. Quantumshock now has a goal unlike before, to live by the example set by Statesman and make a difference.
Therefore, he will not by pass the opportunity to stop a mugging, purse snatching, or whatever else some of the Hellions, Skuls, or you name them, no matter their level, to put them down and save the citizen. That is why we are here. My apologies...I went a little too deep with this one.

Something I've tried successfully is dark/ sonic for a defender. Dark has all of the lovely debuffs and other toys we know so well. Add the bag of tricks that comes with sonic plus the +30%.... nice.

Now if only I could tolerate the sound effects of Sonic. It's the one blaster set (I'm a blaster fanatic) that I can't get past the teens before the power sound effects drive me up the wall.

I'm looking forward to taking him up against The Zealous One lol. My kin/rad defender needed a trayful of lucks and reds. I wonder how my Emp/Sonic will fare.
I soloed the Sister Psyche TF with him and a Shivan a few years ago. That felt quite cool.
Ooh, i've just remembered i've got a TA/Arch defender too...Mmm, must dust her off, I recall her being great fun.

I had one of those for a while when I replayed Jun, my fighting schoolgirl. It turns out that Street Justice is more awesome than I remember (unlike SR as her secondary...) and still just as costly, and it turns out I really did make a good choice giving her SJ as a primary. There's something about a self-taught young fighter using moves that make me wince just looking at them which really embodies what Jun is all about - a young hero determined to fight for what's right, no matter the cost.
I've been having a LOT of fun with her the last few days, and I wish I could bring myself to play her more, instead of camping the forums... This is my flaw. There are many like it, but this one's mine.

Siren's Song > Howl > Psychic Scream > Shockwave
Honestly though, Ice's sound effects are some of the worst in the game. A long time back my computer's sound card went out, and during my time without sound I made a WP/Ice tanker and got him all the way up to 43. Then I fixed my sound, and now I can't stand to play him.
I've got one at 43rd and she IS a real blast to play. I agree with you that this game can really keep one interested in exploring new powersets. Now if they'd just spend some 'love resources' on anything other than end-game content, I could exist here a happy man till the end of days

I organised my toons in the chatracter select screen into level order the other day, something I've not really done before. I have 3 50s, a 41, a 40, a 37, then a 35 (and then 30-odd toons of 30 or under). The 35 is Soundman, my Emp/Sonic defender, and I haven't played with him for a few years. I've been running tips on my 41 and 40 to get them a morality mission so i can do the sig arcs with them for hero merits, and whilst waiting for the cooldown to wear off, I broke out the emp and started doing tips with him too.
I forgot how awesome he is! He's like a mini-Blaster! Woohoo!
So I had another one of my semi-regular little computer chair dances in celebration of suddenly realising all over again that here's another powerset i haven't reached the end of exploring, and my MA/SR Scrapper is still only lvl 40 too, and he's great, and what about my fire/rad troller, then after that I've got Street justice and Titan Weapons still completely unplayed, and they're giving me Staff fighting too soon, and, and...
I'm NEVER going to get bored!
