I'm not impressed.. you're just another generic Incarnate. Haven't you people figured out yet that once you become an incarnate you just homogenize? Everyone has the nuke, everyone has the +levels, everyone has the pets... honestly, your main powers just become filler until Judgement comes back up.. Oh look honey, another 50+x doing +4/x8 content... snore.

Quote:Great way to start a counter argument, automatic assumption people need to l2play. You must be in politics.Anyone that would suggest that an IO blaster barely makes par is clearly playing with people who have no idea how to play a blaster.
Quote:Before this upcoming change to blasters, blasters were awesome in potential. The one weakness is a lack of mez protection. That is easily overcome by playing smart - and really - blasters are not totally mezzed because we can still attack with tier 1 and 2 attacks.
To make my point short and sweet, The Blaster being the 'balls to the wall' AT, really shouldn't worry about mezzes. It really interrupts the flow of how a Blaster plays. Blasters should worry about incoming damage.
I dunno. This is simply my opinion and I say in CoH today, where Incarnates run around being as OP as ever.. Blasters really don't scale well in similar situations due to their glaring holes.
Quote:If you've played this game enough, look at some players builds and you ask yourself, how does this player do all that with that build? A blaster with just SOs can still play very well and with the right person behind that blaster, if you didn't look at the info, you'd never know whether they had IOs or not. A good player with a solid IO build is seriously going to outshine more than a few scrappers and brutes.
Granted, not every blaster is the same, nor is every player.
Meh, not a problem with the Blaster.. more a problem with the Brute I'd say... Brutes be OP man!
Quote:However, with dominators, I'm currently of the opinion that I feel sorry for all of them - but I base this on my own experience with my own dom. Elec/elec. Horribly poor pets -squishy, with a long recharge and weak damage. I haven't given up on the AT - but I have given up on those powersets used together. However, it could be that my play style just doesn't mesh with the strengths of elec/elec. That doesn't mean I think they should change anything. It just means the powersets aren't for me.
Doms are fine. Doms do High-average damage when compared to the heavy hitters: Brutes, Blasters, Scrappers. And have control on top of it. Quasi Support-Damage role so I say apples to oranges. Also, I hate to break it to you but Elec/Elec is atrocious in comparison to say, Ice/Fire or Fire/Psy or Plant/Fire etc. Electric Assault is terrible in terms of damage due to having The Voltaic Fuzzball.. and Zapp and the hilarious Thunderstrike (seriously.. it take 3.5 seconds to use if you include lag time!).
Doms also get mez protection in Domination which is very possible to make perma.
I dunno. Not trying to destroy your arguement I'm just saying that Blasters do have issues... issues that aren't patched up very well with IOs or Incarnate crap like other ATs. Blasters do excellently in 1-50 stuff... but once you factor in IOs and Incarnate stuff, they start to scale worse... similar to Masterminds -
-
Don't forget to craft them too. For some reason crafted IOs sell much more than the recipe for them + mats

Quote:But is the way to do it? This only make it good for one thing: Quickscoping. That's it. I still wouldn't pick it sadly.Honestly, I hope it doesn't change, because we all know Devices needed a good swift kick in popularity to get anywhere near the top sets.
Devices needs something more than an indirect buff like this. -

Quote:I'll give you that Arcana... but some people where were acting as if the game would be around fooooooooorrrrrreeeevvvveeeerrrr. Which it won't.People have been saying this since 2006. Since that was six years ago, it would be more proper to say this game is slooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooowly dying.

Perhaps make Granite Armor a super-awesome 'Absorb' power now that we have such an effect in game?
Granite Armor becomes a 'not suckage' click power that stacks extremely well due to it's absorbtion nature. -
I like this idea because it would also apply to Defenders with their nukes (aka expanding marshmellows) and corruptors.
Of course not every nuke would be affected by this. Rain of Arrows, Blizzard, Full Auto, etc would be left alone possibly but for the archaic nukes, I'd love to see this happen as right now Incarnate crap, the speed at which even +4's die and even the activation time really hinder the 'feel' of using a nuke. Power creep has really made them obsolete and while nothing really needs to be 'fixed' persay, it would be nice to see them updated. -
Shapeshifting wouldn't necessarily have to be a whole new AT.. while I would prefer it was due to how silly my idea wil lsound but what if there was a powerset that worked similarly to staff fighting and dual pistols?
At level 8 you get a power that shifts you into a different form causing all of your other abilities to have new effects based on your form?
I don't think this idea does Shapeshifting justice at all but it is very possible and may be done to how much easier it would be than making a whole new Archetype. =(
Claw
Bite
Rake (Cone)
Shapeshift - Lion, Bear, Wolf (+Recharge, +Damage, +cool points)
Taunt
Roar (build up)
Thrash (AoE)
Outrage (Lightningrod clone)
OM NOM NOM (Energy Transfer but with a heal instead!)
Just a stupid set I immediately thought up and notice how easy it would be to do something so simple...
New Archetype pl0x -
Need more epic power pools indeed. We also need more villain pools.. perhaps Lord Recluse's own pool? And don't give me all the lore hogwash... srsly.
-
Even with Rain of Fire being bugged. It's still an extremely long DoT. Yeah, it's potential damage is quite impressive....
...too bad it's rare that it actually gets to do it's full damage. I again point out that this is the exact reason moves like Ball Lightning are simply 'meh' to most min/maxers or people who scream 'moar damage'
Meh, I guess it's just personal taste. Fire's AoE is Average simply due to Fireball to me if not less than stellar unless you have tons of +recharge (then we're splitting hairs).
Fire is over rated. It's extra damage is still in DoT form and thus it's usefulness is is questionable. If you like it, you like it but don't try and say that it is the de-facto bestest set evar you sound ignorant when you do. -
Quote:That's why having a second build is great. I'm not going to post a second build for lowbie stuff. I'm just trying to get people to use brainpower to make a Granite Tanker that attempts to crank up the psy defenses to modest levels assuming 27+ content (being lowered to 27 keeps Granite Armor)The major problem I have with this build is what happens f you have to exemp down where you can not run in granite? all the other things I believe Justaris covered it. I know most ppl say oh i wont exemp down, but there will be times where something happens and you have too, prime example the summer event.
Anyway, need to update the first post brb!
Edited:
So now we have Elusive Mind and Tanker IO set. Of Course Elusive Mind isn't up 100% of the time but when it it, it puts us about 3% over the softcap which is great. But of course, a more perminent solution is appreciated! Any other nifty ideas?
I tried to socket Taunt in a more appropriate manner. I would gladly remove the sixth slot from a lot of powers to give taunt more mmmmph! But many IO set's sixth slot bonus is higher psionic resistance/defense so thats a no go.
Priority:
1. High Psionic mitigation
2. High mititgation to everything else
3. Taunting/Getting punched in the face
4. Moving
5. Global Recharge
6. Dps -
If you don't plan on soloing, Then consider skipping Icicles. It does 8 damage per tick. A lot of people like Damage auras and usually I do too! But on an ice tanker, where you already have Chilling Embrace as a taunt aura, icicles is redundant and the damage is very low... and lethal.
For your EPP go Soul. I'm sure there is a good reason to go something else, but I cannot fathom tanking without Darkest Night on any tanker. I'm sure others get along fine but highly consider improving your tankiness with darkest night so you can do your main job even better. -
Protip: You can turn off granite armor and rooted in between combat. Allowing you to zoom to the next fight unhindered.

Quote:This. The one dimension strikes me as a comment more about doing nothing other than being a meat shield, not about building them.
I did the same thing with my only tanker, all granite, make sure nothing can kill me type of thing (For when you really NEED a tank). I don't think it was meant to be a build that is just strong to psi (Hence why picking stone because it is stronger against everything else than anything else), and generally Psi doesn't come on it's own, so dropping granite for minerals isn't a great idea.
I can't check the build at the moment though. So don't have much more constructive to add.
I should have been more specific. This build was simply an exercise in trying to make Granite Amor less 'bad' against psionic. Yeah, I'd have better luck with super maxed Dark Armor (which can reach maxed psy res with a similar theory behind it).
A better formed statement would be: Make Granite Armor Tanker less susceptible to Psionic while maintaining it's core features. Use my build as a starting template.
But thanks for the (albiet obvious) advice -
I have only skimed this thread but honestly Bots/DArk is by far one of the best comboes for Masterminds.
I'm sure the thread is around here somewhere but I believe Bots/Dark MM was one of the first characters to solo ITF... This was wwaayy before Incarnate crap too! -
Meh whether or not you agree with it, I guess it keeps the game going in some way.
-
So, I generally never play tankers due to how one dimensional they are. But then I decided that if I'm going to play a tanker, I may as well take tanking to it's absolute extreme. EXTREME... and go Stone/Ice/Soul. The build is probably no where near perfect as I just kinda put it together. But it involves having soft-capped defenses and maxed resistances just using Alpha slot because I hate incarnate trials and would rather torture myself with Dr. Quarterfield because thats how I roll. Because of that, I need psionic defenses so I made a stone build with some moderate psionic defense/resistance.
Tell me what you guys think and what else could be done. As for the powersets, I'd prefer to keep them. Stone is obvious. Ice for Ice Patch and slows and Soul for the amazing Darkest Night (and gloom). No purples are used due to their absurd price and generally minor boosts.

Interesting.
League of Legends uses the pando media booster. Do you play LoL? If so, that is where it's from most likely. -
Quote:If you honestly think this game is going to be around forever, I hate to see what happens when finally the servers close. It's slowly losing subscribers and slowly people are moving on to other games. What evidence do you have to support this statement "exactly"?
Want evidence? Look up -any- game in history. Slowly, games die. I didn't say it would just shut down tomorrow.. but in a few years.. yeah.
Sorry but you sound like your in denial like anyone else who thinks this game is going to outlast time. I'm sure you believe that you will never leave this earth am I right?
All I'm saying is, and what the video is saying is that power creep is bad because it alienates players and makes players reconsider playing the game. And if people don't play the game, the game eventually loses money. Then it loses support and thus it is technically 'dead'.
Anyone else wanna argue that any game doesn't slowly 'die' ? -
Brutes are sadly OP
I can't justify making a scrapper or tanker because of them. I think Brutes should have their damage cap reduced from 800% and their resistance caps pushed down to scrapper level. This would definitely help tankers out.
-
Quote:Rain of Fire is still a DoT aka it does it's damage over a fairly long period of time. and it's damage numbers are a bug that may or may not be fixed.. most likely not though because magic..You haven't used Rain of Fire enough. The Scourge ticks do twice as much damage as the regular ticks, meaning that it is more effective than any other set.
If Rain of Fire is so great then so is Ball Lightning, Short Circuit and other DoT attacks.. but sadly they aren't.
I'm not saying fire is bad because it certainly isn't... but I am saying that the extra damage component of Fire does not make it anywhere near the best set for corruptors. Archery is still amazing. Rad 'can' be amazing. Sonic is still the best in my humble opinion that is entirely up to debate.
Don't forget Ice also has the blaster-level damage on it's Ice Storm. Ice Also has delicious holds and the almighty Blizzard that kept it's Blaster Numbers.. that also procs off scourge.
But I think you were there when people made a mega thread comparing Blizzard (and similar rain powers) to nukes and I believe it was aruged that since the damage isn't in one burst that you cannot say that the enemy(s) will stay inside the rain for the entire duration so it's total damage is up to debate.
TL : DR - Rain of Fire may be nice, but if we're using that argument then Ice Blast has the upper hand. -
Resistance is best late game they say. I have a hard time accepting this 100% because you don't just get a fully IO'd brute at lvl50... also, if you do lowbie TFs/Trials then of course the bonus drops.
Also, people forget the lack of DDR in resistance sets (Bar Invulnerbility.. because invulnerability is BOSS).
I say go with what you feel most comfortable with. On teams, epect some sort of buff to your defense or reduction in hits taken in some form due to aggro or ally abilities. Personally, I like the hybrid sets: Invulnerability. Stone Armor. Willpower. even Shield Defense. These sets I find tend to do the best in the long run. Easier to softcap than pure resistance yet generally has better tools of survival than pure defense.
I dunno.. if you have a few hundred million inf to spare then yeah.. go pure resistance but looking at it realistically, they aren't so different and they both have issues.
