Epic Power Pool Proliferation

The number of primary and secondary powersets available to players is growing faster than pretty much ever with the continuation of powerset proliferation and the addition of new powersets. While this is undoubtably a good thing for players, it has shown that epic power pools haven't really kept pace, thematically.

Here are some suggestions for some new EPPs, using nothing but existing powers.

Blasters: Shadow Mastery
35 - Darkest Night - Toggle: Ranged AoE Foe -Damage, -To-Hit
35 - Fearsome Stare - Ranged (Cone) Foe Fear, -To-Hit
41 - Dark Embrace -Toggle: Self +Res(Smash, Lethal, Negative, Toxic)
41 - Dark Regeneration - PBAoE, Minor DMG(Negative), Self Heal
44 - Obsidian Shield - Self +Res (Psionic, Disorient, Hold, Sleep, Fear)

Notes: Goes thematically with the recently proliferated Dark Blast/Darkness Manipulation. Obsidian Shield goes from being a toggle in the Dark Armor set to being a click here.


Controllers/Dominators: Electric Mastery
35 - Jacob's Ladder - Melee (Cone), High DMG(Energy), Foe Sleep, -End
35 - Grounded - Auto: Self +Res(Energy, Negative, Immobilize, Knockback, End Drain)
41 - Charged Armor - Toggle: Self +Res(Smash, Lethal, Energy)
41 - Chain Induction - Melee, Moderate DMG(Smash/Energy), Foe -End, +Special
44 - Power Sink - Point Blank Area of Effect, Self +Endurance, Foe -Endurance


Defenders/Corrupters/Masterminds: Kinetic Mastery
35 - Repulsing Torrent - Ranged (Cone), Moderate DMG(Energy/Smash), Foe Knockback
35 - Power Siphon - Self: +To Hit, +Special
41 - Kinetic Shield - Toggle: Self +DEF(Smash, Lethal, Energy)
41 - Disrupt - PBAoE, Foe Disorient
44 - Concentrated Strike - Melee, Extreme DMG(Energy/Smash), Foe -DMG Disorient

Notes: Disrupt is an Energy Aura power for Stalkers. On Stalkers it's a toggle; this is make it a click so it's more of a reactive power.


Stalkers/Scrappers: Nature Mastery
35 - Entangle - Ranged, Moderate DoT(Smash/Lethal), Foe Immobilize
35 - Strangler - Ranged, Moderate DoT(Smash), Foe Hold
41 - Thorntrops - Ranged (Location AoE), Minor DoT(Lethal), Foe -SPD, -Jump
41 - Thorn Barrage - Close, High DMG(Lethal), DoT(Toxic), Foe -DEF(All), Knockback
44 - Roots - Ranged (Targeted AoE), Minor DoT(Smash/Lethal), Foe Immobilize


Tankers/Brutes: Weapons Mastery

Dont you hate sand in your eye?

35 - Rock shield - Click: Self +Def
Same animation as Boulder throw, but modified to then take object and use as a shield.

41 - Frag Grenade - Ranged (Targeted AoE), Moderate Damage (Lethal/Smashing), Foe KB
Nothing wrong with a grenade you find on your enemys dead comrade and using it against his partner.

41 - Lantern Assault - Ranged (Location AoE), Minor DoT(Lethal), Foe -SPD, -Jump
Throw your lantern on your enemy and watch him burst into wonderful flame.

44 - Air Strike- (Ranged Targeted AOE), Superior Damage (Lethal/Smashing/Fire).
You use that good old radio animation and call in an air strike as a last ditch effort.

Nothing wrong with any of this (really like Sand In Eye), but the idea behind powerset proliferation is that it uses existing art and animation assets to reduce development time.

You have no idea how happy I would be with an electric pool (that ISN'T Mu) for scrappers or a "natural" pool for brutes/tankers.

I would like a pool with a rain in it for my Defender (Rain Dancer who focuses on...you guessed it). Ice Blast gives me two, Storm gives me one...I want an EPP that gives me another. Though I imagine I can't since the EPPs with rains just duplicate existing rain powers that are already available to a Defender.

I can dream, though.

Ignore Pain is just Dull Pain with a more Psi flavored look. IF/when Blaster Hoarfrost gets changed (there's the possibility of it getting modified to an Absorb shield, since Blaster HP caps are so low), then IP would get modified the same way.

Brute - Electrical Mastery(Same as Scrapper/Tanker)
Electric Fence - Ranged, Immobilize, -End, Moderate DoT(Energy)
Lightning Bolt - Ranged, -End, Moderate Damage(Energy)
Shocking Bolt - Ranged, Hold, -End, Moderate DoT(Energy)
Short Circuit - PBAoE, -End, -Recovery, Moderate DoT(Energy), Special vs Mechanical
Ionizing Chain - Ranged Chain, -Resist, -Damage

Ionizing Chain could use either Jolting Chain or Synaptic Overload's animation.

Controller - Twilight Mastery
Dark Blast - Ranged, -ToHit, Moderate Damage(Negative)
Engulfing Darkness - PBAoE, -ToHit, Moderate Damage(Negative), Minor DoT(Negative)
Dark Embrace - Toggle: Self, +Res (Smashing/Lethal, Negative/Toxic)
Life Drain - Ranged, -ToHit, Moderate Damage(Negative) Self +Heal
Gather Shadows - Click: Self, +Special, +Damage(All)

I went with Engulfing Darkness over Night Fall or Abyssal Torrent, frankly because I really HATE Dark's ridiculously narrow cones, but also because having a PBAoE instead of a TAoE or Cone would be distinctive.

Corruptor - Cold Mastery(Same as Defender)
Block of Ice - Ranged, Hold, -Rech, -Speed, Moderate Damage(Cold)
Frostbite - Target AoE, Immobilize, -Rech, -Speed, Minor DoT(Cold)
Frozen Armor - Toggle: Self, +Def(Smash/Lethal), +Res(Cold)
Hoarfrost - Click: Self, +Max HP, Heal, +Res(Toxic)
Icy Bastion - Click: Self, +Res(All but Psionic), +Recovery, +Regeneration

Defender - Cold Mastery(Same as Corruptor)

I specifically included Frostbite so that Hero Defenders and Corruptors had access to an AoE immobilize (Because I really hate mobs running out of my rain patches ).

This is very much a pool based on survivability, rather than damage, though it does still include an AoE. (It's an AoE I don't really like, but there aren't that many AoE options for Dark Doms.)

Mastermind - Kinetic Mastery
Focused Burst - Ranged, Knockdown, Moderate Damage(Smashing/Energy)
Kinetic Shield - Toggle: Self, +Def (Smashing/Lethal, Energy)
Concentrated Strike - Melee, Disorient, Extreme Damage(Smashing/Energy)
Disrupt - Toggle: PBAoE, Disorient
Power Drain - PBAoE, -End, Self +End, +Def(All)

Scrapper - Electrical Mastery(Same as Brute/Tanker)
Electric Fence - Ranged, Immobilize, -End, Moderate DoT(Energy)
Lightning Bolt - Ranged, -End, Moderate Damage(Energy)
Shocking Bolt - Ranged, Hold, -End, Moderate DoT(Energy)
Short Circuit - PBAoE, -End, -Recovery, Moderate DoT(Energy), Special vs Mechanical
Ionizing Chain - Ranged Chain, -Resist, -Damage

Stalker - Frost Mastery

This set works off the logical assumption that when Ice Melee eventually gets ported to Stalkers it'll lose Ice Patch for the set's Assassin's Strike power.

While there are a LOT of Epics I want to see proliferated around the various sets (electric for Scappers, please), I'm still going to insist on the three weapon pools I've been suggesting for a while:

Pistols Epic:
Pistols
Kneecap (debuff of some sort)
Suppressive Fire
Dual Wield
Empty Clips

Rifle Epic:
Beanbag
Burst
Slug
Heavy Burst
Reload (one Rifle Epic power is chosen at random and recharged instantly if it's on a cooldown currently)

Bow Epic:
Stunning Shot
Flash Arrow
Snap Shot
Aimed Shot
Fistful of Arrows

Darkest Night is debatable, but probably not game-breaking.

Fearsome Stare, Dark Embrace and this version of Obsidian Shield probably aren't either.

However, the devs would have to take leave of their senses to give Blasters a self heal as potent as Dark Regeneration. Siphon Life maybe. Dark Regeneration? Not a chance.

Not that they won't give Blasters a self heal, they just aren't going to give them one that is that good. If it were converted into a version of Drain Psyche, perhaps. But not as Dark Regen currently exists.

Darkest Night with Blaster mods would definitely not be game-breaking.

I can see your point with Dark Regen, if they use the same version as Dark Armor. They could either modify it by reducing the heal or reducing the number of targets, or as you say simply make it Siphon Life.

Not to stir the pot, but the devs spoke on the coffeetalk this week about stuff happening with pools, which was kind of hinted to involve both normal pools (5th powers) and epic pools.

I hope they merge the Melee PPPs and I'd love for the MM ppps to be merged with the Def/Corr PPPs

Need more epic power pools indeed. We also need more villain pools.. perhaps Lord Recluse's own pool? And don't give me all the lore hogwash... srsly.
