Banes, my friends, BANES!
Oh, I thought it was going to be a new video. All well, this one is well worth watching again!
Glad to see you took VG - one of a soldier's best powers IMO and well worth the redraw on a bane. I like watching bosses melt into nothingness after being hit by poisonous ray backed by 80% resistance debuffs + BU. Seeing ticks of 120x5 + apoc proc firing never gets old.
My Bane does insane damage in melee, thanks to all his debuffs. Easily my strongest melee character, and I do have several Scrappers and Brutes at 50 as well.
Also, I don't personally use this strategy, but you can make a half-decent pure ranged character with a Bane. I know people look at the damage numbers on the blasts and think they all suck except Poisonous Ray, but that's because they recharge so darn fast.
Issue 16 made me feel like this.

>But they're not as strong as Stalkers.
They are SUPERIOR to Stalkers.
Ware ni tatenu mono mashi!!
[There are none before me who have not been cleaved!!]

Web Envelope doesn't protect from knockback, regrettably, but Wide Area Web Grenade does. Follow that up with Venom Grenade, Frag Grenade, Mace Beam Volley, Mace Beam Blast and Disruptor Blast and you're looking at big groups of dead without even touching the single-target blasts. Still technically something a Crab could probably do better, but doable on a Bane nonetheless.
They're superior in the AoE capacity, which is certainly worth noting, though their single-target output is almost comical compared to Stalkers. And Hide trumps Cloaking Device by at least seven or eight orders of awesomeness. Stalkers tend to live longer too, as long as they don't take those silly healing/resist secondaries.
Issue 16 made me feel like this.

Eh, I'll keep my -15% cone over than -20% single target. (-:
What's with all the Crab threads lately? )-:<
*Head explodes*
Ever since my Crab Spider became my main character, I have spent a fair amount of time hanging around the Soldiers of Arachnos forum and inflicting my opinions on people. However, my lack of experience with the Bane Spider path has prevented me from saying much about it. No longer! I have started a Bane Spider and thought I would post a spec for discussion:

Woo! I shall critique it posthaste once I return to a computer that has at least a billion memories to load up Mids on it.
Fun to watch. However, if I may make a suggestion:
Slave some of the powers on the right-hand side of your control bars to your NumPad. My biggest problem with Blasters is that they get SO MANY attacks and I'm not the best with mouse clicking. So I set the NumPad to handle up to a dozen powers (usually melee attacks, BU, Aim, the Nuke and so forth). Then I can focus more on blasting and less on moving the mouse. YMMV
"Comics, you're not a Mastermind...you're an Overlord!"
Slave some of the powers on the right-hand side of your control bars to your NumPad.

I use that for lots of stuff, even managing inventory mid-fight. I can't justify using the number pad for reasons that don't amount to much of a benefit (if any).
First soldier I made was a Bane, and I still love to use it. The funnest part IMO is how surveillance gives you all of the specs of the enemy you use it on, just like Power Analyzer MK III. This makes it easy to tell if an enemy has a particular weakness, or if in AE arcs what ridiculous power the maker has given the AV. It's also fun to see how far down you can get their stats before you finally kill it.

I have a bane, it owns. Banes seemed to have pulled ahead of crabs ever since incarnate trials started..Where your pets get munched and destroyed by enemies very easily. Banes have the pets still, but don't rely on them as much as a crab does I feel. My bane like..never dies due to beyond def soft cap, it does pretty nice dmg..I am thinking of turning my widow into a night widow and make a nice build for it.
I didn't make an aoe build because if you are doing incarnate trials, mobs are dead before you aoe them.
I am more-so single target, which people can always say stalker dmg is best single target and it is..But you get the pets too as a bane. I feel like in incarnate trials it is all about single target for the most part, the mobs of trash die so quickly.
Banes... Crabs... where's the Huntsmen >_>
I'm curious how you keep your toxic nozzle sprayey thing from getting clogged when you go knocking armored foes in the noggin with it.
My Toxic nozzle sprayey thing is actually built into my face. I clobber dudes with a stick.
I was actually rocking so hard with my bane during an ITF that a teammate crab messaged me saying that he was going to respec. Stacking all that -res on hard targets makes a huge difference.
Being sort of a support/cc toons player, after 7 yrs of this game, my bane is the only melee toon i can play and enjoy. Actually is my only melee toon fully incarnated.
Softcapped in positional def AND 42% s/l res with a really cheap build is something. The lack of DDR is somewhat disappointing, but hey the sound of awesomeness never gets old.
- Did you hear something?
- Hear what?
- WHACRACKZOMG.
- Oh, you mean *that*
- WHACRACKOMFG.
- Hello, this is arachnos stalking you to death.
I'm cool teaming with any Spider that takes double leadership, honestly.

Five consecutive Crab threads? Irracceptible! There's more to life than Crab Spider Soldier!
Having said that, we need more Fortunata threads too...
There seems to be a lot of Crab this and Crab that going around, and there has been since Issue 12. But we still have the lovable Banes! C'mon, everyone loves Banes, right!?
I mean, sure, Banes don't get Fortification or Serum... or Spiderlings... or Omega Maneuver... And four of the powers in Mace Mastery are nearly duplicates of powers Banes do get and are also available to Crabs... But that doesn't make Crabs better or anything!
But Banes DO get Build Up! That's good, right? And Placate, and Hide. But they're not as strong as Stalkers, so it's not like they're clones of that class or anything!
And, um... Poisonous Ray and... Huh. I guess I answered my own question.
Here, watch my Bane:
