  1. Congrats Artic_Sun! I look forward to seeing where you end up.

Of course, this means I'll have to start pestering someone else with my Paragon Times submissions, doesn't it? :-)

Besides, EvilGeko and Angry-Citizen would kidnap me, lock me in a room and do horrible things to me.

[/ QUOTE ] I wonder if they'd charge admission for that. I'd pay.

    [/ QUOTE ]

OK, so let's just say, hypothetically purely hypothetically, this were to happen. What sort of admission fee would you pay?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Nothing - I'd wait for the video to hit YouTube.

This thread makes me appreciate that, about twice a year, I get a call from my bank saying "There is a US company called NCsoft that has placed a charge on your card - is this legitimate?" There are few times I'd say that Australian banks have offered excellent customer service, but every time I get one of those calls I am impressed.

I much prefer that to the 'deny now, fix later' attitude that the US banks seem to be taking.

We are in talks with another, extremely prominent, CoH site, but since it's just talks i'll leave it at that for now

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Badge-[censored]?

    [/ QUOTE ]

No, but it's obvious the next prominant CoH/V site will be... www.coh.com! The Titan Network will soon be running the forums, providing updates to the knowledge base and paying the CM's salaries.

I for one welcome our Titan overlords.

Confirmed, CuppaJo will be there, as well as Cricket!

Note to OP, this is an NCsoft player Meet & Greet, so while it would be nice to have our Cryptic Developers out to Austin for this, we only unchain them from their desks at the end of each day.

We will try and pull something together for out here in the San Jose area where meeting the Cryptic Team will be more feasible.

Oh! Tell Cricket we miss her and hope everything's going well.

It's Crickette now - after she left us, she got all fancy. :-)

I have an image in my head about the scene in the Cryptic offices at the end of the day when the Unchaining occurs. For some reason, "The Ride of the Valkyries" is the accompanying music.
  7. The sewer trial is a lot of fun, although it does require some coordination when you get to the bottom.

Have they fixed the lvl bug with this trial, i.e. those about the max lvl (lvl 42 from memory) aren't auto-exemplared and 'lose' the temp powers when they click on them?
  8. Titan eh? Planning to overthrow the gods?

When are you guys going to cut to the chase and just buy the rights to CoH/V? ;-)

    Seriously - good work all.
  9. I understand that point of view, but respectfully disagree with it. The Eden trial has some of the most interesting maps in CoH. The Sewer trial is also a very unique experience. Despite it being "dated", it is still valid content. It'd be nice if the bugs in these trials were fixed, including the Titan-O issue. Could it perhaps give a SHOE instead for those lvl 40+?
  10. Whoever does /em Smack - a big congrats from me. Every comic I've seen has been awesome.
  11. The biggest problem with this Heavy nerf is not that it happened, it's that it took so long to come in.

That aside, Heavies have been noted as being overpowered for quite a while now, even when they weren't being used for AFK farming. Putting a timer in would simply make farmers come back every X minutes to pick up a replacement heavy, return to their spot of choice, then go afk again.

What this change has done is a move towards forcing players to team up if they want to take on the PvE objectives in RV, instead on relying on soloing with the Heavies. This is probably closer to how the devs saw players conducting themselves in the zone. Players used to the now non-viable "solo with a heavy" method aren't going to be happy with this change.

However: yes, the pillbox badge requirements are ridiculous. The 10 - 50 - 100 progression makes a lot more sense.

Can someone confirm that they are getting the same Safeguard bugs I've seen?

First one: vandal hotspots not being shown on the map.

Second one: it looks like my "kill signature / named villains" badge counter from Safeguard missions has reset itself back to zero. I hadn't got the badge, but I was at least 50% there.

UPDATE: Just to add, the named villain I got on this map twice (he robbed the bank, then was at the jail) was Critical Mass.

I experienced both of these issues doing the Founders Falls Safeguard.

    Anyone else seen these bugs?

  15. First post after a re... ah, forget it.

I've only played I10 on the Live servers, so it's all new and exciting for me. Even so, I think that I10 is probably the BEST ISSUE EVAH released for CoH.

<ul type="square">[*] It offers a smorgasboard of new PvE content[*] The redesigned Rikti look awesome [*] There is a heap of things to do[*] It progresses the storyline (finally!)[*] It provides a continuous co-op zone at the top end of the lvl range[*] The new costume pieces look fantastic[*] The Rikti zone attacks add in a layer of threat / challenge to CoH/V that hasn't been seen in a long while[/list]
The only negative is the crippling lag in RWZ.

Overall: a fantastic issue. Good luck topping it with I11! :-)

Funnily enough, Positron's calendar has "NERF THE H8TERS" written in big red texta on a date just beyond that video release. I wonder what that means...
  18. "The Rikti Invasion stops right now!"

    Nice.
  19. &lt;QR&gt;

I skimmed the .pdf and was immediately put off by the following paragraph:

    [ QUOTE ]

One hundred million Americans played a computer or video game last week, with varying but generally high levels of excitement and focus. Some play was simple shooting, racing or turning cards, and much of it appealed to adolescent boys. But that’s not the important story about games and the enterprise. An increasingly large portion of play is complex, strategic, and gender balanced. The average age for online multiplayer games is 30, the average time spent per week is 22 hours, and 7.5M people currently play one title – World of Warcraft.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    1) Was it really so hard to find out approximately how many US citizens play MMOs / the size of the market? Saying "100 million played games last week" up front is fine, but they should have cut that down further to say either "X million play MMOs" or "the exact proportion who play MMOs is unknown" rather than trying to pass off on the larger figure.

    2) 7.5 million (or whatever) gamers play WoW WORLDWIDE. The US playerbase is meant to be closer to 1 million. That paragraph - meant to tell us how widespread or important MMO gaming is - seems to be passing off the 7.5 million figure as if that was US players alone.

    Sloppy work.

As for the rest of it - yeah, fine. It reminds me of articles about how playing PnP RPGs improves your imagination, social skills and mathematics ability. For some people, sure it does. But it's hardly a guaranteed success story, given with who you can meet whenever you enter your local nerd shop.
  20. The fact that some work has been done on existing hero EATs (HEATS) for this issue should give people who want villain EATs (VEATS) some heart. It should now be easier to do a direct port of the general Kheldian properties over to the villain side.

However, this ignores that HEATs have a large unique storyline component to access, which VEATs would also need to get if they wanted parity.

However, given I'm going to look at I10 by what it has rather than what it lacks, it looks like a good issue.
  21. I liked how all the CoH/V players shown were cool and aloof looking. Nice work, guys and gal :-)

As a side note, could they have made it harder to read the information about the players? It was just a line of run-on text.
  22. UnSub

    Cryptic article.

  23. [ QUOTE ]
I laughed my [censored] off at this comment:

As for deciding what goes into the game, I usually consult a magical sea shell I keep under my desk. The sea shell tells me to do good things, but sometimes it tells me to do bad, very bad. It takes about 15 beers before that sea shell starts to talk.

    [/ QUOTE ]

So whichever player sneaks into Jay's office and installs a radio transmitter into the sea shell so that they are able to whisper directly into Jay's ear will have direct control over future CoH/V costume pieces?

    Hmm, interesting...
  24. [ QUOTE ]

Small ships dart through the heavy weather … and there are so very many of them.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    I love that line.

Anyway, very exciting and it sounds like a great advancement of the CoH/V storyline.

I haven't seen anyone yet comment in this thread that the updated Rikti information contains explicit mention of a space station AND a moon base.

And I can only imagine what must lie within the crashed Rikti mothership.

I10 looks to be a damn good issue and a great follow-up to I9. Congrats to the dev team for the concepts presented here.
  25. [ QUOTE ]

And not to slight UnSub in anyway but unless he started getting a paycheck from Cryptic or NCSoft it just another example of something that used to come from them and now comes from us.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Because it got raised - nope, I didn't get any material payment for that article, nor did I ask for one. My "payment" for this work is that, for better or worse, I've written something that is now CoH/V canon. That's enough for me.

    [ QUOTE ]

Its like going to Starbucks to get a 6$ cup of coffee, finding that the Barista is only there to take your money now and that you have to make your own 6$ cup of coffee with a set of directions scribbled on a napkin. You may get a decent cup of coffee but odds are very good that it doesn't taste 'right' and you still got charged 6$.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    1) You shouldn't go to Starbucks in the first place.

    2) At the end, you still get a cup of coffee.

As Ex has already said, it takes time for the process to be worked through. If by writing this article I got a PT published where there otherwise wouldn't have been one, then that's a positive end result.
