I find it rather amusing that one of the amazing new features is that the Rikti now have swords that can fire lasers!

Dude, have you see those freakin gunswords?!? They are HUGE! Like, way bigger than THIS! < waves his arms, outstretched > And, speaking from experience, it's not all that fun to be on the receiving end of them.

I love how Villian epic ATs are such a priority! "2-2.5 years and we MIGHT get around to making some" woot!

at least this new stuff is pretty cool! so far all the zone revamps have been A+!

gahhhhhhhhh! damnable work security won't let me see it. Copy-paste! someone copy-paste! I hate not being able to see the new stuff. Of course I hate work too, but I gotta do something to pay for my account. No beaches around here to sell icecream at.

The Historical Event he talks about is the Apocalypse of St. John the Divine.

A beast with many heads, rising up out of the sea - very clever.

The badge is even called 'Apocalyptic'.

There is a rumor that Issue 10 will include more base enhancements and upgrades. Care to comment?
I don’t know where the rumor started, but we didn’t have any time to include new base items for Issue 10.

I don't know.. maybe in this interview? http://coh.warcry.com/scripts/news/v...6&id=70412

I guess by "next few" they meant, "eventually".

@Poison Idea

Guilty of being tight.

The apathy towards Villian Epics is EXTREMELY dishearting. I really hope they change their minds on the benifits it will have on CoV and the long time players.

From the article:

The storyline for issue 19-20 of the comic book came from me, and it was really a chance to tie in comic book events to the game. So, a lot of elements from those two comic books will be reflected in the game.

You know, if you'd been doing that all along, I might have subscribed to the thing. At the very least, I would have cared a lot more about it! So, when do we get #20 on the FTP server?

Man, my deity-hating, magic-using Rikti villain is going to love this thing! It's got all his bases covered.

Also, it's great to see the devs moving back to literary references. I've missed the old "book chapter" issue names lately.

Having looked over the paragonwiki notes on this TF, I got all the Revelation references except the name of the Rikti AV beginning with "H." Where did that come from? Is it an anagram of something?

Edit: Not the Honoree, the other one, the one with the apostrophe.

His name is a reference to Herodotus, I think.

I thought of that, but then I began wondering how the Revelation and The Histories of Herodotus could be related, and all I could come up with was the fact that they were both originally composed in Greek. Not even the same kind of Greek, either. Perhaps the idea is that he's a war leader, and Herodotus wrote about the Persian Wars.

So... Lady Grey is... Jesus?

[/ QUOTE ]

Maybe; who knows? Is she standing near seven lights on poles? (The Revelation includes references to seven lampstands.)

Other possibilities include Revelation's Woman Clothed With The Sun or John of Patmos, author of the book.

It's not clear to me just how allegorical/literary this TF is supposed to be. I think there's potential for reading a lot more into it than is really there. Comics have a tendency to incorporate references to literary, historical, or religious sources, especially in their titles, that have little or no bearing on the stories. Some examples, off the top of my head, include the John Constantine story All His Engines, which takes its title from a line in Paradise Lost, and the four opening chapters of the '70's World War II comic The Invaders, which incorporated references to Wagner's Ring of the Nibelungs cycle of operas in their titles. Neither, so far as I could tell, had much of anything else to do with their literary sources. I'm actually pleased to see CoX adopting this trope, too- it deepens the "comics" feel of the setting.

This whole subject of the TF references calls for investigation on a much more thorough scale by people who 1) know a lot about the appropriate source material, 2) have lots of time on their hands, and 3) would rather think about this than test the content itself. Personally, I don't really qualify for any of the three, but I bet someone out there does.

Finally had a chance to read it now that I am home. Not happy about villain AT's maybe being in game tell next year. Not happy at all. It makes me wonder if the game hasn't grown beyond their staffing.

The fact that some work has been done on existing hero EATs (HEATS) for this issue should give people who want villain EATs (VEATS) some heart. It should now be easier to do a direct port of the general Kheldian properties over to the villain side.

However, this ignores that HEATs have a large unique storyline component to access, which VEATs would also need to get if they wanted parity.

However, given I'm going to look at I10 by what it has rather than what it lacks, it looks like a good issue.

The glass is definately more than half-full. I'm looking forward to this event. Haven't tried it on Test as I like to maximise my awe and wonder when a new issue goes live. That being said I'm liking what I'm hearing!

I'd much rather they have Villain Khelds come out when they're done *right* - not just in powersets and balance, but in having a full, engaging 1-50 storyarc for each one - instead of "as soon as possible."

If it means next year, it means next year. I can almost put money down that we're going to hear many of the same people who are complaining they're not available "Right now!" or in I10 complaining "We waited for this, this isn't Epic (ie, Godmode, to them,) these stink!"

We are undetermined, at this point, on how long the initial invasion is going to last. It will go on for at least two weeks, and we may extend that time depending on how players react. But, it will become a permanent part of the game. So, we might re-activate the invasion whenever there is a lull. Also, some of the new content, like completing one of the Rikti War Zone missions, will trigger an attack on a separate game zone.

IMHO I think that it is okay to have the initial invasion lasting a short time but to have this invasion continuely by means of a mission in the Rikti zone and when there are lulls will get old pretty fast. Also it will get annoying for heroes and villians to either duck for cover or take on the Rikti when all they want to do is go to their mission. And more so if it causes alot of debt.

Before i10 goes live, they're supposed to be making it so debt will be zero within a zone undergoing the Invasion event.

I would rather see them work on giving the villains something comparable in utility to the heroes' APPs, which would benefit more characters than adding epic ATs would, since the devs have already said that 'getting a character to level 50' wouldn't be the method of unlocking villain epic ATs, so there would be relatively few players who would benefit from the creation of epic ATs for some time.

I heard rumbling about possible forced Vill/hero team ups. I know that it's not going to happen. the TF is doable by full hero or full villain OR combo teams. So maybe those for which the idea of teaming with someone from the other side makes them gag, will be at ease and more willing to back this Issue release.

From what I have seen leaked out, I think the new costume pieces will be a fresh and cool thing to play with for awhile.

I think the delay on the Villain Epics are because of lack of new and fresh ideas. We all know that two of the many things that scare people are aliens and robots but that's been done alot. Sure there could be a robot force bent on the destruction of all life but that sounds so much like the borg. To me it's just so hard to come up with something original.

How much flack would the devs catch if they just threw out another set of alien epics? I think alot. So, I am one who is willing to let them think really hard and come up with something that is cool, instead of just throwing any old thing out there just to even things out.

But that's IMHO.

Everytime I'm not home for the day, and can't get on the net, something major happens in the COX universe.

Everything on Paragonwiki about I10 looks great so far. I can't wait to hit test and try it out.

I know people are upset about villain EAT's being pushed back to next year, but I'd rather have them and their storyarcs be ready from the beginning. When the Kheld orininally came out there were only a few stroyarcs for them. By the time the rest of the arcs were ready, many people had already outleveled them and were upset.
