  1. I'm not sure the death statistic is as meaningful as the time of the defeat. I typically bring along the super! wakies because I don't like wasting 30-60 seconds racing back to the fight.

On my tank, this was considerably harder, as it takes about 12 seconds to put all those bloody toggles on. I really hate toggles. They should all be automatic. /end digress.

    Anyway, thanks for posting
  2. This is the second week that someone has tried to kick someone on a UGT league for some mysterious unknown reason. Fortunately for the grieved party, the other 22 people exercised some compassion and elected not to kick the parties in question.

I am quite sure that I have annoyed, irritated, or even ticked someone off in the past. Yet, I don't think I've done anything so horrible lately. If I did, I'd expect the offended party to say "hey, I don't really like that tone" or something like that. That's the way issues are resolved. And, if that fails, then there's the gignore option.

On the UGT, voting someone off is not the way to resolve issues. People are getting distracted, they're talking to each other, and people get upset. The wrong people! Ones that have nothing to do with any of the issues that are bothering the unknown vote kicker.

I'm sure that whoever is doing it, is probably some 14 year old kid who thought it would be funny and likely never reads the forums. But, just in case, please stop!

If you're uncomfortable doing a trial with someone, just leave the trial before it starts.

I did file a petition, for whatever good that may do, because clearly this was a case of griefing. Hopefully, a GM will take a peek and have a chat with the unknown vote kicker.

If it continues, I'll no longer run the ugt openly, but do a closed league format and use /sea and my list to form and run it.

I certainly don't want to do that- it might make things harder to fill and complete. But, if it means I'm not teaming with some unknown ...unsavory character, that's fine by me.
  3. Elsewhere on the forums there are folks with a perception that their characters are woefully unlucky regarding the rewards table.

This may be quite annoying for some - but there are a few details I would love if we could keep track of.

    1. Did the league get the 60 thread bonus?
    2. Did the bomb badge effort succeed?
    3. Was the Avatar beaten while the seedling was spawned?
    4. What AT role were you playing ? Melee, ranged, support, debuff.

Why am I asking? Elsewhere in the forums, there's a small debate over whether the reward table is truly random, or if the odds of rare's, very rares occur raise when some criteria are met.
    5. What reward did you get?
    6. About how long did the trial last and how often did you go afk for more than a minute or two?

Obviously, there is a participation metric. Those who go afk report that they typically get commons or even worse, a mere 10 threads.

The participation metric, out of fear of exploitation is kept vague and nebulous at best.
I do not seek to know the formula for very rares, but I think if we collectively pool our data, we can get a better idea of
1.) Is there an inherent bias against a specific playstyle or AT?
2.) Is one method of success better than another? For example, does setting off all the bombs and letting them explode without the bomb badge being pursued - is that going to give us better odds of a very rare than taking the time to get the badge (or satisfying the requirements for it if we already have it)

Let's face it, the UGT is kind of long, and pursuit of the bomb badge puts some folks at odds with those that already have it and would rather not waste the time planning for it. (but put up with it because they're awesome! )

I think most run these not so much because they're "fun" but because they have hours invested in their "Fun" character and want to make the character more "fun", i.e. powerful.

It may be better suited for Liberty to have 1 run specific for badges and 1 for the goal of very rares.
Or, possibly both. At this point in time, we can't really say.

Baryonyx has made several statements about the reward table and how it works. Things are left deliberately unstated for a reason, and that's ok. But, I'm fond of calculating odds - puts my old gambling skills to work.

I realize that this would probably be better served in a different section of the forums - but I know most who post here - and trust most of you to be honest. I can't say the same for other folks on other servers. (just don't know them)

It's a lot to keep track of, but if you could, that'd be great.

This way, we can start to tailor our runs towards methods that result in better salvage for everyone.

    Merry Christmas!

    Can people.....

As much as I'd like the idea of being able to buy a few things for in game friends, I think this won't happen because of the fear of people charging, in a sense, real money for stuff.

Example: I give you a billion inf, and you give me 800 points worth of x or y.

Or, I pl you to 50 and you give me x or y IO sets of this type or that.

Myself, I'd like to be able to give a few points for team inspirations so I don't have to carry them all myself.

But, those lowly RMTers and the like have ruined it for the rest of us.

I would like to be wrong about it, though.
  5. I never break mine down for threads - I use astrals for that. I save them for glad procs. I'll slot one, then sell one.
  6. I have to say, I am in complete agreement.

I like the MoM trial. I like the UGT trial. (well, now that I'm +3 on my main badge toon and a couple others)
But, now that my main badger (a blaster) has earned the Mo on all the trials - why would I take him on any trial? How often does any leader say "We need blasters!", unless going for preservation specialist.

I will offer this bit of advice though.

I needed the preservation specialist badge on my blaster. I noticed that the ugt was not being run very often. I was fortunate enough to have been invited to one - and learned from the leader how the trial was to be run. Except for the bomb badge, that is.

So, I posted on the server section for Liberty that I was going to run this trial at a time when I felt most would be on and want to do it - after the MSR - which is scheduled and has been at the same time for at least a year.

So, if there's a specific badge/Mo you're trying for, try posting about a week ahead of time what you'd like to do - I'm sure you're not alone.
  7. Awww, I thought you'd hide somewhere in siren's call.
  8. Whenever I go in Pocket D, I hear "Ukase in the house!"
  9. I don't know what server you're on, but I think it would be very easy to give them to a character on another account. Any of us could volunteer to accept your candy canes and give them back to the character you designate.

My global is @ukase, be happy to help.

    Avatar Assassin

The Avatar Assassin Badge is presumed to be awarded for defeating the Seedling and the Avatar at the same time. Although this doesn't seem like it should be that hard, there are some details about this seedling that I don't know and would like to know.

Maybe some of you know the answer and could share it with the rest of us.

When does the seedling spawn? I see the text come across my screen, but I'm typically more engaged in making sure my confuse protection is good and then defeating the avatar. Badges are great, but success is more important. However, if I knew more about the seedling, I might be in better position to arrange for its defeat as the avatar goes down.

Is the seedling along the lines of a Boss level, or Elite Boss level target? AV?

I suspect that this is a badge that we get almost by accident - the longer this fight with the avatar goes on, the more chances someone gets confused or gets caught up in a WotE and doesn't get away from the group.

Anyone have some insight? I'd like to add the pursuit of this badge in addition to the rest of them so that everyone can get as many shinies as possible.
  11. For the most part, I've only taken this power as something I had to take to get to Fireball.

Slots are hard to spare - and with IOs, to make the most use of a power, you need at least two. I've noticed on my brute, when fury is built, and build up and fiery embrace, opening with melt armor - it does seem to work okay - though it is a real end heavy power - so I follow up with consume. Burn generally does the rest except for the bosses.

For my tank, I've got it - but it's unslotted - I don't even use it. I had the idea to slot a chance proc in there - but without an accuracy, I figured the odds would be even less than 10%.

If you're solo - I think melt armor is not gonna be anything to worry about. If you team, it's going to mean even less.

    But, you ask good questions.
  12. It is beyond me why CoH would want to endorse another game. Even if it is run by NCSoft - just doesn't make any sense to me.
  13. I believe Will Rogers once said, "You can please some of the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time. But, you can't please all the people all of the time."

Even if I was on globals with one or two of these board member-players, I don't think they're going to be looking out for the interest of the game or me. I would think they would be looking out for whatever is in the best interest of the main toon they're playing at the time. They would be wanting different ways to use judgement when there I am, just giddy about being able to use judgement at all playing a tank. The newness hasn't worn off and I'm not at all bored with it.

A point was made about a very diverse playerbase. The Devs already can be seen reading through various threads - and I do give them credit to be able to recognize rationale argument from inflammatory rhetoric.

However, if I were on the board...nah, I'd just muck things up.
  14. I've got to say, that there is one tip that noone's mentioned.

I'm not saying it's necessary, but I think it will help.

Bring a level 50. My average time when IR doesn't cause me to jump 200 feet higher than the track is about 44 seconds. This is with a second build where I make use of IO sets that boost run speed and jump speed. I also have a kin which will give IR and SB which caps my run speed and jump speed. However, with a lower level toon, my jump and run speed caps are lower.

If you have super speed and sprint, all you really needs is Inertial Reduction.

It wasn't always that easy. It took me several tries to even catch the first checkpoint consistently. I tell you, if I could figure out how to travel with my mouse, I might even do better than that. But, I just use the 4 arrow keys to move. Seems more intuitive to me.

Another tip - try using a Kheldian in Dwarf form with SB and IR. It's a real kick. You should be able to get about 45-50 seconds easily, as the dwarf form seems very dense. I have a feeling that if my kin were high enough to give ID, my times would be better.

That being said, there are guys on my server that have times of 41 seconds. So, I'm not even an expert on my server. (Liberty)
  15. I could comment - but, you have a preferred playstyle that differs from mine. I so very rarely use hover. In fact, if I ever respec, I may get rid of it. For now, though, it's a nice lotg mule.

If it's fun for you, great!

[/LIST]Now, don't get me wrong. I am an active anti-fan of the participation system, and I am not making excuses for it. However, it's pretty clear there's more that needs to be going on here than just being on a league that completes the trial.

Were you active? I can't say, but I easily give you the benefit of a doubt on this in particular. The issue we often seem to run into with this thing is that it's metrics for "activity" don't align well with what players consider being "active" for some powersets or even whole ATs.
Heh, well thanks for the benefit of the doubt.

I think it's worth stating that the quote you got from the patch notes were not in effect until after the UGT in question. That is to say, it didn't get into the patch notes until after the UGT in question. Apparently, this was policy before, just not stated anywhere. Although, I'm still irritated. I never went afk. The only time I ever stopped moving, I was either attacking or typing directions.

As it turns out, my sub renewed the night after the trial, but before support responded. So, I've got another 6 months to ponder over resubbing. I wonder if I'll even remember this two months from now. <shrug>

Thanks to all for their input. Merry Christmas!

Though your question/comment does have merit, when I say "people that prefer soloing", I don't mean to suggest that they never team up. But, I probably should be more clear.

In my case, I will almost always solo something like SSA. It's far faster for me to run it and get the hero merit than to actually form the team. Same with most story arcs. Teams provide, in general, a far slower leveling process that soloing - for most of my toons. (Because teams must be formed, tells sent, questions answered, etc)

However, I like my toons to have the Task Force Commander accolade. Aside from the old Positron tf being available in Ouroboros, the rest of the tfs have to be done on a team.

When I hit level 50, I want my toons to be level shifted at a minimum. This also requires teaming. So, it stands to reason that I would be less familiar with some of the "lesser" players than someone who teams on PUGs on a regular basis.

    Just my two cents.
  18. I do see the point the OP is trying to make.

Problem: Running into higher level toons that don't understand basic mechanics.

    Solution:Slow down the leveling process.

See, I don't think that just slowing down the DFB is way to go. If we truly want players that are well versed in game mechanics - these first must be identified.

On Liberty's more populated global channel, a player wondered what zone Manticore was in. Well, truth be told, I can certainly understand how someone who solos or just came from the red side might not know this. Still, it's unsettling to think I might be teamed with someone who doesn't know what I would consider basic information. But, I have to remind myself that there are Free players that used to play this game but forgot their login info and just started over as free players who know a good deal about pulling, herding, task force requirements etc. There are also a good number of premium players who let their subs lapse because they have no interest in incarnate content and have enough rewards to keep their IOs working.

Each server is going to have its ...lesser players and players who contribute - and those who bring even more to the table than we do. This is part and parcel why we have a global friends list and SGs. To limit our time with those who do not bring much to the table.

For those that solo a lot, I suspect that they feel the sting of the DFB runners more often than those who don't.

But, still, I don't think nerfing DFB is the way to go.
  19. Not one vote for Kahn? That seemed to me to be the simplest thing in the world. Granted, I had a good team, but all Mo runs require a pretty good team.

Apex is the most fun, though. At least it is for me.
  20. I realize that this is for tf/sf's, but I think iTrials might fit in this category. If not, please redirect me.

I just finished a UGT - and I had about 4 people get caught up in the Will of the Earth.

My suggestion would be for the player warning to be a little larger, and linger on the screen a little longer. For whatever reason, a lot of my teammates were having trouble seeing the whirling circle at their feet. I don't know if it's a graphic issue, but if it could show up in a dark red font about 3/4 inch tall, it might help.

I know I could just choose folks that are literate, but the smart folks really don't always tell the best jokes. :P

    Just my two cents.

    1. An in depth description given before forming the TF that describes what enemies you will be facing, what levels you will be fighting, a recommendation for the team make up, and an approximate time range in which you can expect to finish it.

    2. Make the TF mob levels spawn according to team average and reputation setting.

    3. Make the TF work on the Rikti Invasion code.

    4. Auto adjust the TF participants levels using PvP code.

    5. Add temp powers to the TF's to help with resistance/defense or damage/accuracy depending on the TF. (ie temp powers that do large amount of damage to a certain mob type like the ones given in Croatoa)

    6. Change TF's so they are harder due to challenges instead of just because you are fighting higher leveled mobs.

    7. Change the minimum requirements.

I think I got them all. If I missed someones suggestion/idea I'm sorry, please add it to the list.

On that note, lets see what else we can come up with and lets discuss (*cough*not argue*cough*) them.

Maybe we can come up with a cool idea for a new TF along the way
I'm coming into this late but --
As a vet, I find #1 to be a bit pointless -but, not everyone is a vet, so it's ok by me.
Number 2? What's wrong with going off the leaders difficulty? This way, only one player has to change it instead of the whole team.

Before I can endorse number 3, I'd really like to know what you're talking about! Why would they not spawn to be the same level as the characters that are in the tf? (unless they wanted it to be more challenging and had the leader set the difficulty accordingly.)

#4 - You want to take my ill/rad with perma pa and reduce my recharge with PvP code? For reals? What's the reason/logic behind that?
#5 - I don't understand - take the Katie Hannon TF - (only one that has Croatoa mobs) - you want a special temp that will do extra damage? There's no need for this. This is arguably one of the easiest, shortest tfs in the game. We only get 9 merits for it. I have no problem with making it even shorter, but I don't understand why you want a special temp.
#6 I think I can understand this one - instead of gigantic hitpoints on the baddies, you'd like something like blue or pink patches to drop from the sky and cause undefined damage type DoT while you fight the big bag of Hitpoints. I'm ok with this.

#7 Change the minimum requirements - you refer to team size to form up? You want to raise it for some? Lower it? if that's what you're talking about, please elaborate.

I realize that you just compiled the list - but I'm sure wherever the list came from, someone can elaborate.
Oh, and please understand, just because I don't like an idea, that doesn't mean anything. Just my two cents, that's all.
  22. The idea of leaving over not getting the rare/very rare IS silly. But when support suggests that I didn't meet the criteria when the patch notes are quite clear - successful completion of the UGT will ALWAY give a rare/very rare reward table.

I mean, there's absolutely nothing vague about that.

Was player on the league? Yes
    Did player ever d/c? No
Did the league meet the mission objectives successfully? Yes.

Provide rare/very rare via the RNG.

But, the process didn't do that. Could support have read the patch notes and not come away with the same conclusion I do? If not, I doubt their ability to understand English.

And you know, I wouldn't have been at all bothered if the GM's had said, "Hey, I see you got screwed. Sadly, we can't do anything about this. I'll submit a bug report to Baryonyx."

But, I didn't get that. I basically got told I was a moocher. THAT, combined with the fact that incarnate content is the only reason to stay VIP is what leads me to consider whether keeping the subscription is worthwhile.

Because if support isn't going to support the reward system, then what point is there in doing the incarnate material?

Risk vs reward. If the reward isn't there, why take the risk?
