Liberty UGT and the reward table
First, the stuff you requested. This was from our friday 12/23 run:
1. Yes, 60 threads.
2. No, bomb badge failed.
3. No, I think, because we didn't get Avatar Assassin.
4. Earth/Rad Controller (strictly ranged control/debuff, with many pseudo-pet-based controls, plus Void Judgement)
5. Rare.
6. No idea, little faster than usual because we failed the bomb badge, and no.
I think there were two VRs reported from that run? Three, maybe?
Second, for commentary purposes, I have had luck of probably every possible description while running trials. Last week, one of my Masterminds had three VR drops from various trials over the course of a couple of days (!!). Other times, I've had melee characters in the thick of every fight who ended up buying their rare bits with EMs, because the RNG was so stingy. I've gotten commons from various trials that we owned as thoroughly as is possible, and a VR from the UGT that included what I think was our slowest bomb run ever, the one where we were starting to get concerned about 10 Threads for lack of participation by everyone not on the bomb team.
While I agree with the prevailing belief that the reward roll is adjusted somewhat by (1) how well the league does overall and (2) how well the player does individually, over time it has always seemed to work out for my guys per probability. That same Mastermind with the incredible VR luck last week also had a miserable early incarnation, with hardly even a rare bit that he didn't buy with EMs. Of course, there are people who simply have consistently terrible luck. I wish there was some sort of streak breaker for trial drops, but I guess buying them with EMs sort of serves that purpose.
The one thing I haven't seen affect it at all is Archetype. I've had at least one VR drop on each of my incarnate Controllers, Blasters, Defenders, Tanks, Scrappers, Masterminds, Stalkers, Brutes, and Spiders. I do make a point of interacting with mobs to ensure the participation credit, but none of my Masterminds even have the attacks from their primary, and they do well on drops.
Anyway, good luck figuring it out. I'll keep providing the results when I remember.

That chick what plays the bird-things...
I see Bright's already mentioned it, but yeah ... you may also want to collect
7. Number of personal deaths during the trial.
Apparently it's been suggested that this quantity figures into your personal success metric. For me from the 12/23 UGT, quite improbably, this number is ...
7. Zero.

I'm not sure the death statistic is as meaningful as the time of the defeat. I typically bring along the super! wakies because I don't like wasting 30-60 seconds racing back to the fight.
On my tank, this was considerably harder, as it takes about 12 seconds to put all those bloody toggles on. I really hate toggles. They should all be automatic. /end digress.
Anyway, thanks for posting

@Ukase
This is what i remember from the 12/23 UGT:
1. yes, i recieved the 60 threads.
2. No, because of the failure.
3. i have no idea... that fight is still "new" to me (been there on 3 different toons totalling maybe 4-5 times).
4. Claws/SR scrapper
5. Rare
6. quicker then average and i never went AFK.
Two things to note:
1. I was DC'd/crashed from that trial twice that night. I seems i have been having some issues with CoH, which i am trying to resolve still. The first was a sound loop to lock up, second was CoH just flat out quit and i was at the desktop. I mention this not becuase i'm looking for technical support, but I still got a rare reward choice at the end. I did select "Rejoin last event" in the LFG window once i restarted coh and was back in game, both times.
2. /start rant
i noticed the most lag just before one of those vote to kick prompts came up (and it may have been the reason for my second CoH crash). It was quite a frustrating run on my end. They really need to make it so you can see the persons name who is spamming that stuff for no reason. /end rant
Is there anyway a league leader can have that option turned off?
The league leader turning that thing off...it never even occurred to me to check, but I will, I promise.
My guess is no - as the reason that the vote is in place seems to be if you have an untrustworthy leader - I can't kick any one member by myself once the league starts. So, I would imagine that this is not a setting I can adjust.

I'm not saying we need to kick anyone for the smallest indiscretion. People do get ...involved in what they are doing and may not notice the request chatter or the league chatter. It could very well be that they have the system rewards set up to display in the same area as request - so they could easily miss it. (dunno why they'd set things up like that, but <shrug>)
As far as lag goes, I know money is tight - but an upgrade will solve 90% of your problems. CoH's code has gotten so RAM needy that you really do need about 4 gigs of ram. 2 for your op system and 1.5-2.0 for CoH.

Yup money is quite tight, and i only have a 32bit OS right now (XP even... le sigh) so i'm stuck with 3.18 GB or whatever the max 32 bit systems can recognize (i do have 4GB worth of RAM plugged into the board). Some day though... some day... *daydreams of sweet gaming comp*

1. No, no one recieved a 60 Incarnate Thread Bonus.
2. No, pets activated a bomb.
3. Avatar died within 30seconds.
4. Mind/Cold troller so, Range/support/debuff
5. 10ish Astral Merits, 2 Emp Merits, Rare Component
6. 1hour - I was there the whole trial, did not AFK or stand still.
*7. I died 3 times at the Lichen Infested War Walker. Couldn't work together to get the LIWW in the corner.

One day, perhaps, they'll allow the 60 thread bonus to apply regardless of the length of time it takes to drop the self-repairing and lichen-infested war-walkers.
For now, provided the entire team is paying attention - and there is one solid tanker that knows what to do - the 60 thread bonus is easy enough.
One player not moving out of the area - particularly a player with pets - (Like DESDEMONA!) can really impede the progress. The lichen infested walker moves very slowly - especially when distracted. And sometimes, Des gets it fouled up in the geometry.
The key seems to be working very fast on the first walker before Des has a chance to aggro. Buffs for the lead tank are critical - tank dies - without a fast rez, the walker will lurk about, taking time off the clock. Typically our leagues get this one within 1 to 2 minutes, once the tank is in position. Then, all except the lead tank clear out - Des simply will not - otherwise this would go faster. But, the tank usually can grab aggro from Des and get the LIWW into the corner, but because of Des, it takes about a minute and a half. Other players not following the strategy can delay this.
With 6 minutes to go, and 2 used on positioning, 4 minutes is plenty of time to clobber the LIWW.
Thanks for your input, Matt.
The data is still raw, and I need a lot more samples for it to be statistically significant.

Steadfast (Demons/Thermal): Cardiac Paragon, Pyronic Final, Rularuu Superior, Ageless Epiphany
Cayenne (Thugs/Pain): Cardiac Paragon, Clarion Epiphany
Suspended (Robots/Time): Cardiac Paragon, Cryonic Final, Clarion Epiphany
None of my guys even have the attacks from their primary sets. I have sympathy for the MMs who have bad luck on drops, and I did have my doubts early on, but no trouble lately. Incarnated Masterminds are ridiculous fun.

7 4 Defeats. or was it 10? heck, I've no idea, but it happened at the times I expected it to. Each time was due to those miserable stuns or end drain - not cause my tank is squishy.

Elsewhere on the forums there are folks with a perception that their characters are woefully unlucky regarding the rewards table.
)

This may be quite annoying for some - but there are a few details I would love if we could keep track of.
1. Did the league get the 60 thread bonus?
2. Did the bomb badge effort succeed?
3. Was the Avatar beaten while the seedling was spawned?
4. What AT role were you playing ? Melee, ranged, support, debuff.
Why am I asking? Elsewhere in the forums, there's a small debate over whether the reward table is truly random, or if the odds of rare's, very rares occur raise when some criteria are met.
5. What reward did you get?
6. About how long did the trial last and how often did you go afk for more than a minute or two?
Obviously, there is a participation metric. Those who go afk report that they typically get commons or even worse, a mere 10 threads.
The participation metric, out of fear of exploitation is kept vague and nebulous at best.
I do not seek to know the formula for very rares, but I think if we collectively pool our data, we can get a better idea of
1.) Is there an inherent bias against a specific playstyle or AT?
2.) Is one method of success better than another? For example, does setting off all the bombs and letting them explode without the bomb badge being pursued - is that going to give us better odds of a very rare than taking the time to get the badge (or satisfying the requirements for it if we already have it)
Let's face it, the UGT is kind of long, and pursuit of the bomb badge puts some folks at odds with those that already have it and would rather not waste the time planning for it. (but put up with it because they're awesome!
I think most run these not so much because they're "fun" but because they have hours invested in their "Fun" character and want to make the character more "fun", i.e. powerful.
It may be better suited for Liberty to have 1 run specific for badges and 1 for the goal of very rares.
Or, possibly both. At this point in time, we can't really say.
Baryonyx has made several statements about the reward table and how it works. Things are left deliberately unstated for a reason, and that's ok. But, I'm fond of calculating odds - puts my old gambling skills to work.
I realize that this would probably be better served in a different section of the forums - but I know most who post here - and trust most of you to be honest. I can't say the same for other folks on other servers. (just don't know them)
It's a lot to keep track of, but if you could, that'd be great.
This way, we can start to tailor our runs towards methods that result in better salvage for everyone.
Merry Christmas!
