  1. This idea is absolutely horrible and should never be implemented, and the OP should be banned from the forums for even suggesting such an outrageously broken idea!!!

It has to do with the developers' vision of what should be easy, possible with a lot of effort, or flat out impossible with enhancements. For example, if you slot a power with purples to get the hefty recharge and accuracy bonuses you typically end up suboptimal enhancing of other aspects of that particular power; i.e. by frankenslotting you could get a better combination of acc/recharge/damage/endreduc/etc, at the expense of the juicy bonuses. That tradeoff is part of game balance. To the extent that new slotting options allow us to optimally enhance more aspects of a power AND get the nice set bonuses, that's just moving the balance towards "I win" and thus away from the (dev subjective) balance equilibrium point.

It's not the OP's suggestion vs. purples. Presumably if they came out with the multiaspect enhancements with set bonuses that he suggested, there could be regular versions of them and purple versions. They're not mutually exclusive.
What I meant is these would be very limited use, and not really all that powerful, so they wouldn't be "broken", any more than things like purples are.

The developers game balance is obviously not geared towards people who deck themselves out in nothing but purple IO sets, or people who deck themselves out in nothing but HOs, or people who deck themselves out in nothing but DOs, either for that matter.

The game is "balanced" around SOs still. Anything above and beyond SOs is above and beyond how the developers "intend content to be experienced". Does that make it broken? Not really.

These proposed sets though would have to have some intense bonuses, both on the IOs themselves and the set bonuses to make them "broken." Because, at least as I'm reading it he's not posing that they have any higher bonus than other multi-effect IOs, just bonuses that would aid multi-effect powers like healing/res or healing/to-hit debuff, or countless others.

Just like how acc/dam IOs aid attack powers, or def/end redux aids defense toggles, or heal/recharge, or any of the other combinations that you can actually find.

Like I said. No more broken.
Too much work vs. the number of players that could use them.. but not broken.

We have HOs, IO sets and Purple IOs.. and you think that this would break the game balance?

If these would break game balance, the game is already broken.

Compare for a moment 4 players:
1 is a casual player who's just decked out in SOs/Standard IOs.
1 decided for the sake of strangeness to abandon IOs and go strictly for HOs
1 is decked out in IO sets.
    1 is "purpled out"

Do you really think you won't notice such an ungodly drastic difference between especially the first and last?
Do you really think that this suggestion would be more "broken" than purples? Especially since what he's posing is already in IO sets, but not quite to the way he's suggesting. We already have +acc/+dam, but we don't have +heal/+res

The problem with this suggestion is the work vs. how many would actually make use of it.
They would have to make so many different dual effect sets, that would only be able to be used by a few people.
+heal/+res would probably be the one that the most people could use. And what would it be? About half the defense sets from 4 archtypes, and I think SoAs could use it too.
But there's a lot of things that would be limited to 1 set, hell one POWER in a lot of cases.

I do not think it would actually be worth while.

In fact, according to your bio I'm old enough to be your father. So, watch the condescension, sonny.

That being said, you do have a point. How about this: images would have to be uploaded and vetted before passing into the game system? A turn-around time of 48 hours would give the devs (or more likely some poor intern) a chance to scan thru the images and make sure everything was on the up-and-up. Tack on a charge of 50 cents (?) for each image to absorb costs and minimize tomfoolery. Also, adult content doesn't automatically equate with lawsuits. SecondLife is FULL of sex and nudity of the most aggressive nature and last I checked (earlier today) they were still up and running.
Second Life however, is not a "marketed" game with a flat ESRB rating. CoH is. If they were to allow players to upload their own images to the game, unless they had an approval system (which I will get back to), they would have to make the rating of the game M, or possibly even AO.
This would then require them to alert absolutely every single player that the game's rating had changed, which would cost them some players of course. ("Oh my god! They made that hero game Mature rated? That does it, Timmy can't play it anymore!") And now here's the REAL kicker:
They would actually have to police things to ensure that at very least, children were not exposed to naughty things.

Even then there would be potential lawsuits (unfounded, maybe, but this is the USA.. we don't care if there are GROUNDS for lawsuits!) say Bob is 15, like most 15 year old guys he's surfed porn, he's maybe even gotten in on some cy.. I mean "Erotic Role Playing", but his parents still somehow think he's innocent and pure.
He doesn't inform his parents of the ESRB rating change, and once day he's hanging in his SG base that has naughty pictures on the wall and his mother walks in to the room. She can attempt to take legal action against Paragon Studios for exposing her child to pornography.
Would it stick? Not likely, not after they provided proof that information had gone out about the increased rating, and anyone who continued to play confirmed that they were old enough.... but still it's a legal hassle for them.

And, you posed having a system where they had someone to approve images.. I think you're failing to understand the magnitude of this. Even if they charged for it, they would still be so inundated with images to approve that there would have to be several people who's entire job was to click 'approve' or 'disapprove' (and input a reason if not approved) on images, especially when it was first introduced.

This would also be a major liability for them! Let's say one of the approvers is running tired and manages to approve one he shouldn't have. Human error, happens all the time. Or, no human error, the approver doesn't see the picture in a certain way. (Maybe it's one of those "creatively" done pictures that's one thing, but really something else...) This means that if something naughty slips through and Bob's mom sees it, there is actually grounds for legal action.

And I won't even get started on the issues that are not related to pornography.

All in all, in a perfect world, this would be an excellent idea.
We however, live in a very imperfect world. And because people are twats, we can't have nice things. >.>

    3)Repulsion Field

    and the others..

4)"Back-Up Power"-This power would be equivelant to "Dull Pain",or "Earth's Embrace",or "Healing Flames".Drawing back up power from the power that powers your shield to heal yourself from sustained damage
Not sure this one fits. I don't think that a force-field set would have a heal.

5)"Richochet"-Activation of the power would indeed genertae a force bubble, but what if,in this case, this force field power were to send an enemy's attack, whether it be bullets,or energy blasts, right back at them?
This one would be nice, and fitting. I'd say a high-end cost toggle which provided good defense vs. ranges attacks, and had a chance to deflect any 'missed' attacks back at the attacker.
    Quote:
6)"Protrusions"-Similar to the "Icicles" power of Ice Tankers, this power would result in several protrusions sticking out from the Shield, rather then just four to six protrusions.
Not being familiar with Ice for tanks, I'm unable to comment on this on.
    Quote:
7)"Three-Shot"-Once this power is activated, the Shield you wear generates three more bubbles which shoot outward from the shield in the form of a Three-Way shot, knocking villains down, disoritenting them for a moment or two.
Effectively granting the tank a close range KD/stun cone? Would be nice.

8)"Force Ball"Similar to "Shield Charge" this power would generate a shield around you,and shoot you forth, like a bowling ball, and knock the enemies around like bowlign pins, disorienting them for several moments.
Could be nifty.. could also be too much like Shield. *shrug*
    Quote:
9)"Shield Galvanization"-The most powerful shield in the powerset, when activated, you draw power from all nearby foes, and transfer it to the Shield, making you invunerable to all attacks, including Psionics. This power would drain power from the shield once the power has expired, not your hit points
Not sure I like how you have 9 here listed.. But I had a nifty idea.

No end cost toggle, not compatible with any other (defensive) toggles from the set. Provides extreme resists, to the extent that you actually take no damage from any attacks. The damage that you would take, however gets converted in to endurance drain at a rate of *percentage that is well thought out for balance standings*.
Has a secondary effect of reducing your endurance recovery and/or increasing your over all endurance cost.

The power can be de-toggled at any time without penalty.
If the power drops due to lack of endurance, however, you are left unable to recain endurance for a moment, as well all of your primary powers have to recharge.

Either way you have to deal with it having a major recharge though.

Hence part of the problem with PvP in CoX.

Person A knows how PvP works and enjoys it. Person A assumes (rightfully) that those who enter PvP zones are open to PvP and know how to play.
Person B is interested in PvP, but isn't familiar with that aspect of the game yet, enters a PvP zone.
Person A sees person B and attacks, obliterating person B like it's nothing.
Person B learns nothing other than he dies easily.

This is made worse by IOs, because of:
Person C knows how PvP works, and spends numerous hours every day farming to get the money to deck his uber PvP build out entirely in purples/PvP sets.
Person A may stand some small chance against person C, but B may as well not even try.
And don't get me started on C in the 35 PvP zone. >.>

In all games, PvP is a niche thing.. in CoX it's even MORE of a niche thing, where those who know it well rule, and everyone else is just fodder.
There is little to no incentive to PvP, the learning curve is harsh, it practically requires you to be a hard core farmer (or ungodly good) or you die a lot.

    Crafting

    The problem with this suggestion:

It would not be self sufficient, at all. It would be forced to team (and who would want to team with someone who had no practical use in a team? Not to mention they wouldn't gain XP for teaming) or would have to recieve aid from a higher level char (which seeing as the devs have not let us 'easily' transfer inf/stuff between chars, they don't want to make such a thing required.)

I have a possible idea for a crafter class, but it wouldn't be a pure "sit at a work station and craft" class.

The basic idea would work a lot like the SoA/Widows.

Each side would have a single 'power set' with more powers than a typical set, and then at a certain point you could choose to specialize.

I'll post more about it when I'm not at work >.>

    Freeform Respecs

I support the idea of "partial" respecs, which would allow you to only change certain things.

    Example:
My ill/kin controller had Air. sup. for the longest time, because at low levels, I needed all the attacks I could get, but once she hit 32, it was useless. I didn't respec though until 50 because I didn't feel like re-doing EVERY power for that. >.>

And, see, I was making a point with perhaps information that was untrue. Judging someone by their rep, is .. idiotic. I did not intend it to sound as if I really felt that way. (I dislike his atitude about rep "It's fine, leave it as is, if you don't like it you're just a worthless poster with a bad rep.")

To say "Well, he has a red rep, that means he's got no worth as a poster." is no different than saying "Well, he has a green rep, which means he just tends to follow whatever the popular opinion is, and is otherwise well-liked on the forums."
they are both equally meaningless statements that are only true in some cases.

And, for those who've said there isn't a running "popular opinion" on this forum.
You have no idea what you're talking about. Look at this specific forum, look at a lot of the hot threads in the I16 section.

You will find that a large number of the forum-base lean in one direction. Those who lean in the opposite direction are repeatedly neg-repped for "not getting it."

"Darkness powers draw their power from an alternate dimension known as the Netherworld."

Do you see? Clearly the Dimensional Grounding Ray is supposed to have a strong debuff to Negative Energy damage, (say, 162.5%?) but it doesn't! Must be a bug, right?
We are sorry but the loading tip is incorrect.
The 'Netherworld' is not an alternate dimension, but another plane. There is a subtile difference.

    It's like this:
Many think of dimensions like planets in some great solar system. This is incorrect. Dimensions are like solar systems in a massive universe known as the 'multiverse'.
Within every dimension there is a universe. However, there is more than just that universe, there are also the planes.
Some dimensions only have a few planes of existence, others have many. Alternate planes are often as a twisted mirror of the 'alpha plane', which is the plane that most who read this will know as home.

The 'Netherworld', is also at times called the 'Shadow Plane', or other things, in some mythos it is considered to be the realm between Earth and Hell, this however, is incorrect.
The 'Netherworld' is where dark creatures live, and feed off the energies of folks on the Alpha Plane, however, this is a good thing. If they did not feed off our energies, we would all eventually explodes in pure darkness and destruction.
Those who harness "dark magic", or otherwise tap in to the 'Netherworld', often times use the raw negativity which the creatures there feed on, and use it against their enemies, most often this places so much raw hatred and anger that they cannot contain it and it physically hurts them.

((*the above post has entirely been the poster being a screwball, and isn't intended in any way shape or form represent how the lore of CoH expresses the Netherworld.*))
  18. So, Synapse was bloody awesome to give us all the badge changes in I16, but there are a few other badges that still need work.

This thread is something that hopefully either Synapse sees, or, when the next issue begins to be discussed, can be linked to. As such please keep it to things that are just badge tweaks.
This means no requesting Overseers spawning more readily red side, or other "faction specific" badges being easier to get on the other side. I fully agree that this would be nice, but those are changes beyond Synapse's badge tweaking.
Also, changes based on the grounds of "Heroes have it this way." (or villains), really are not on solid ground, as they have stated repeatedly that hero/villain badges are, by no means intended to be "identical".

Please note the badge, current requirements, proposed requirements, and why you feel it needs to be changed.

Here's the current list w/ credit
(Please do note: I'm just listing them, even if I want to smack the person and go "you stupid!".)

    Zolgar:
    Badge: Banisher
Current requirement: 200 Banished Pantheon spirit masks.
Proposed requirement: 50 to 100 Banished Pantheon spirit masks.
Reason: This badge really should have been tweaked with the round of I16 changes. It's practically impossible to get without farming or countless hours of mind-numbing sweeping. There is little reason for this one to be 200, when so many of the other 'boss' badges are 100.
I feel this one, however, should possibly be reduced below 100, due to the rarity of the Banished Pantheon, and the exceptional rarity of finding the masks anywhere outside of certain high grade missions (which are frequently farmed)

    Badge: Bug Fixer
Current requirement: Complete one of your MA arcs in Test Mode.
Proposed change: Should be account wide.
Reason: This badge is required for an accolade, that has a very nice QoL utility power (access to the AE editor anywhere). Problem is, the system to get this badge is.. stupid. I don't even feel you should GET a badge for testing your arc, but that aside, you should have to re-test your arc every time you want to get the badge for a new character.
I feel this badge is an Author badge, not a "player" badge.

    Ian the M1:
    Badge: Gangbuster.
Proposed change: Requirement reduction to 100.
Secondary proposal: Allow Gangbuster to unlock the Tommy Gun costume piece.

EmperorSteele:[*] Increase Beleiver from 2 "sightings" to 3, to keep with the 333 defeats theme for all the other Croatoa monsters. (I think it's actually only 1 'sighting' currently)[*] Allow Sky Raider Porters and Rikti Headman Gunmen to count towards "tracer"; increase defeat count if necessary.[*] add a Master of LGTF badge

    Treboreleets:
    Badge: Warden
    Current requirement: Defeat 500 prisoners
Proposed requirement: 100 to 200 prisoners
Reason: 500 prisoners basically ends up just being a mass of farming. Very boring mass farming that, even if you're in the level range to gain XP isn't worth anything but the badge. Once again it delves in to the realm of aberrant player behavior.

    Badge: Spider Smasher
Current requirement: Defeat ### 'Wolfspider' class Arachnos goons.
Proposed change: Add Crab/Bane spiders on to that list.
Reason: Blue side the Wolfspiders can be harder to find, and logically it should at least include the "Spider" classification goons.

    AkuTenshiiZero:
    Badge: Vandal
Current requirement: Destroy 25 Hydrants, 25 Mailboxes, 25 Newspaper stands, and 25 Pay Phones.
Proposed requirement: Destroy 100 Hydrants, Mailboxes, Newpaper stands, and/or Pay Phones.
Alternative: Fix progress bar/tooltip to display how many of each item you have destroyed.
Reason: Vandal is, in a word, confusing. There is no way other than taking notes or memory to track your progress. And frankly, there's usually more important matters to deal with at the time than keeping track manually. There is currently no progress bar or other information offered besides the requirements, if the game is clearly capable of tracking the numbers why can't it tell us? If it is impossible to show progress as is, perhaps it would be best to simply merge the requirements into one lump tally.

And see Bill, I can say the same about you, despite your green rep. I bet I wouldn't find much worth in your posts. Probably just mindless echoing of the popular opinion.

    You flat-out stated that 1:
Rep tells you someone's value as a poster.
    2:
    Rep follows trends.

I know for a fact that the trends rep follows are how close to the popular opinion you sit.

Ergo it says to me that you consider the value of someone as a poster to be how close to the popular opnion they sit.

that's fine, just makes me know that your worth as a poster means little to me.

Now if I used your very logic, that would mean that to me, everyone with a green rep has no worth as a poster.

I'm personally quite in love with traps, alarms going off, different triggers. Fairly easy to implement with the possibility to add a lot of fun as long as not every mission turns into a trap-mania. Stacked behaviours can go quite a long way too. (Just think of what we can do in the MA with stacked triggers/goals)
A lot of the general ideas could be implemented without the issue of "getting too annoying".
    location-based triggers.

    Certain AI with targeting preferences:
This type of Lt. targets support.
This type of boss always goes for the strongest target.
This type of Lt. is a spotter, all minions within (distance) of him will target the same one he is targeting.

Etc. These could get progressively smarter as you got higher in levels, so that in theory, you would learn the triggers and be able to nullify them without taking too much of a hit.

Traps would be an excellent option, presuming that they were not over used, and make sense.

Alarms that, if sounded would put the mission on alert, all enemies would begin patrolling and several groups would head towards the source of the alarm. Once again, as long as it wasn't over used.

Like I said.. as long as we don't make it 'annoying' in the name of being hard.
  21. Machetes are more equivalent to a short sword than a broadsword.
And besides, my brute can sneak up on people, too, so

I also disagree with the idea of Death being a stalker, but see, the problem with THAT is there are more variants on the character of Death than either of us what the time to list. You reference a cold killer who sneaks up on you and snuffs your life, I reference a man who's job it is to see that you go when it's your time, and is there to escort your soul to .. wherever it is he escorted souls to.
This makes him very hard to use as a reference for anything.

Batman.. Batman is a stalker I think.
Well I think he's got stalker martial arts, the stealth pool, and tanker Willpower. With a side order of /devices as well.

If they're going to have the rewards cap, it should really be at a fairly high level, because.. seriously, 742 in a large warehouse? you're probably gonna get more than that in playing a normal arc. >.>

Ahh, I understand you now Bill.

You are a "Follow the popular crowd" kinda guy. The kind who wears those new blue jeans everyone else is wearing, buys a new pair of shoes every 6 months so you can have the coolest shoes, etc. The rep meter lets you know how popular someone is amongst the forumites, there by how friendly you should be with them.
So it tells YOU their "value as a poster"

    I.E. It's a popularity contest.

At least that's the only explanation I can find for it. Sure it agrees with trends, because as I said, you get neg-repped for disagreeing with the popular opinion, or otherwise going against the flow.
    Green for being a sheep.
    Red for not.

    No, it serves 2 purposes:

The one you mention, and, it allows cowards to make pointless jabs, unfounded comments, insults, and just plain assholery in the complete comfort of anonymity.

The problem is, if it were not anonymous, then you would get someone posting something insulting or stupid, and counter-repping everyone who negged them for it.
(Say I responded to one of your posts here saying "OMFG Teh rep system is STUPID! And ur stupid for liking it, you stupid stupidface!" and you, and many others, would obviously neg me for it, then I would just go and neg all of them, for negging me, even though you had grounds for it, and I.. didn't.)

This is the core reason I feel the system should be abolished.
Anonymity leads to a certain form of abuse.
Lack of anonymity leads to an alternate form of abuse.
"positive rep" ratings lead to a form of abuse ("I'll rep you if you rep me, bladiddy blagh")

Can you give one single positive element to the reputation system?
It does not show the "worth of a poster", Green shows how many people like their posts which in part also equates to how much they post. Red shows how often their opinion differs from the popular one, which doesn't mean they're "useless".

I've been neg-repped for thinking there should be a method of gaining power post-50 other than IOing out.
I've been neg-repped for pointing out the flaws in the SSK system, and posing a system to change it that would fix those flaws, and has been tweaked and worked to avoid adding any new flaws or returning old flaws.
I've been neg-repped for being a PLer. Infact to quote "PLer, PLer, go away; come back never." Which is after I pointed out that in my 4.5 years on this game, I have 3 50s and 3 others at 30+.
And I KNOW I'm not unique in this.
  25. Or.. what if.. instead of being faction based..

If it was technically co-op, but there were two rival groups in the zone, that you could join up with one or the other, and that would be how it would decide the buffs/debuffs for the competitive side.

One side sought to explore the zone, to learn things from it. The other sought to use the zone to gain power.
Heroes could be drawn towards the need for power, to be able to use it to fight the villains. even if it meant having to work along side the villains, because even then, they would at least have an even playing field.
villains of course, would seek power because.. they're villains, that's what they do

And, both sides could be drawn to the seeking of knowledge because.. well, knowledge is power, as they say.
The villain might seek the knowledge to later exploit it, or simply be of scientific mind and want to understand it.
The hero.. would actually be about the same.

What would they gain? I dunno. The zone wasn't my idea
