Calamitus Co-Op Zone
In before the "OMG NO MORE COOP" >.>
I like the sounds of it.
Omg no more coop
This, but also....
WHY is it CO-OP? People always suggest more co-op but they never include the why. Why should Calamitus be Co-op?What is the reason for heroes and villains to work together? |
What could be kinda cool is making a zone which both sides accessed, and for *insert reason* could not directly fight eachother, however missions for one side or the other would buff/debuff, much like how.. Bloody Bay(?) works.
So, heroes and villains are competing in the zone, which make it an interesting challenge because what the other side is doing effects you, but you don't have to be super uber built with one of 10 power sets in order to be actually competitive.
And for any who say it should be PvP, I will just counter:
The PvP population of this game is much smaller, the PvP is poorly balanced, and there's already more PvP zones than Co-Op PvE. And there are no Competitive PvE.
with respect, won't the whole Going Rogue stuff make co-op kind of pointless? Soon after its release we'll have masterminds in Atlas. Of course, if because a specific tank is now a villain you must have a co-op to play with him as opposed to a host of remaining hero tanks, then I suppose co-op it is.
Or.. what if.. instead of being faction based..
If it was technically co-op, but there were two rival groups in the zone, that you could join up with one or the other, and that would be how it would decide the buffs/debuffs for the competitive side.
One side sought to explore the zone, to learn things from it. The other sought to use the zone to gain power.
Heroes could be drawn towards the need for power, to be able to use it to fight the villains. even if it meant having to work along side the villains, because even then, they would at least have an even playing field.
villains of course, would seek power because.. they're villains, that's what they do
And, both sides could be drawn to the seeking of knowledge because.. well, knowledge is power, as they say.
The villain might seek the knowledge to later exploit it, or simply be of scientific mind and want to understand it.
The hero.. would actually be about the same.
What would they gain? I dunno. The zone wasn't my idea

This is my idea for a new co-op zone, directed at being a higher-level alternative to RWZ (40-50).
Now, Calamitus is this odd alternative dimension. At times, gravity will cut and walkways will bend and loop.
The walkways are made of an odd purplish energy stretching miles and miles around this (relatively small) world. When you first enter Calamitus through the portal (made very similair to the portals to Recluse's Victory) you stumble upon a firebase. The CSRT (Calamitus Search and Rescue Team) wait for you in the doorway of the firebase. As you can see, the firebase was very poorly made out of scrap metal, hence the holes in the wall you can see the outside from. CSRT worker-bots work very persistently on fixing these holes, however. This Firebase is located in southwestern Calamitus (a rectangular shape, Calamitus is.)
Heroes and villains, from far and near step through the portal to Calamitus. Unfortunately, these portals can only be created in specific places (Dark Astoria and Sharkhead Isle) due to an odd problem with the positioning (interns who stepped through other portals reported being passed out on entry).
CSRT, however, are not the only to inhabit this land and create portals to Calamitus in an effort to explore and inhabit.
Devouring Earth have found a way into this dimension, yet few know how or why. Some think that the Circle of Thorns created their own portal to Calamitus and used Devouring Earth to test, and others think that these Devouring Earth broke out of labs in St. Martial and ran off to Sharkhead Isle frantically.
The high-tech Malta and Crey have secretly worked together to create THEIR own portal into Calamitus, to discover the rich secrets of this world.
Calamir, a mutant-form of Nictus have inhabited this dimension for centuries, inhabiting The Pits of Chaos and most of Eastern/Northeastern Calamitus.
Locations:
Calamitus Firebase
This firebase is standing tall in Southwestern Calamitus, high on a cliff with a purple-energy walkway leading onward, down to The Pits and forward to other locations. The Firebase is a central hero and villain location, where they are briefed and equipped, healed and relieved.
The Pits of Chaos
The Pits are renowned for being the one place where 'nobody ever comes back from alive'. Located directly below the Firebase, only accessible by a no-gravity freefall off the eastern side of the cliff the Firebase clings to, it holds many Calamir to behold.
Opress Pyramid
A Calamir Pyramid created a very long time ago, when Calamir were first inhabiting Calamitus (which could range from two thousand years ago to five hundred million years ago), located deep on the darker side of Calamitus (in the northeast), it is the main location for the Opress Task Force. Containing hundreds upon hundreds of Calamir, including unusual mummy-like beings and Crey invaders. This is all ruled by the master plan of the archvillain Resus, a super-powered Calamir pharaoh.
