New IO Sets Suggestion
Freedom: Blazing Larb, Fiery Fulcrum, Sardan Reborn, Arctic-Frenzy, Wasabi Sam, Mr Smashtastic.
If these would break game balance, the game is already broken.
Compare for a moment 4 players:
1 is a casual player who's just decked out in SOs/Standard IOs.
1 decided for the sake of strangeness to abandon IOs and go strictly for HOs
1 is decked out in IO sets.
1 is "purpled out"
Do you really think you won't notice such an ungodly drastic difference between especially the first and last?
Do you really think that this suggestion would be more "broken" than purples? Especially since what he's posing is already in IO sets, but not quite to the way he's suggesting. We already have +acc/+dam, but we don't have +heal/+res
The problem with this suggestion is the work vs. how many would actually make use of it.
They would have to make so many different dual effect sets, that would only be able to be used by a few people.
+heal/+res would probably be the one that the most people could use. And what would it be? About half the defense sets from 4 archtypes, and I think SoAs could use it too.
But there's a lot of things that would be limited to 1 set, hell one POWER in a lot of cases.
I do not think it would actually be worth while.

Nice idea, would love to see some more specific sets, like endurance or recharge Intensive damage sets, or endurance Intensive toggle enhancements =D, would make damage aura and heavy toggles much more manageable =)
ps: i'm guessing there are balancing reasons for the lack of Purple def/res sets????
I'm going with the "I don't think the devs would think it was worth it for what could be a *single* power." I wouldn't mind seeing them, but I think they'd have to go into some sort of specialty / buy only / exchange pool (where, honestly, things like some of the snipe sets could go.) That way there could *be* a place to put some of the more esoteric sets (Wormhole/Black Hole, anyone?) without watering down drops further.
Alternately, there have been suggestions for self-made dual-aspect IOs and the like in the past. No, they don't give set bonuses, but it could help out.
I don't know how you think that comparison is at all relevant to my post. "Game balance" doesn't mean all enhancements are equal. It has to do with the developers' vision of what should be easy, possible with a lot of effort, or flat out impossible with enhancements. For example, if you slot a power with purples to get the hefty recharge and accuracy bonuses you typically end up suboptimal enhancing of other aspects of that particular power; i.e. by frankenslotting you could get a better combination of acc/recharge/damage/endreduc/etc, at the expense of the juicy bonuses. That tradeoff is part of game balance. To the extent that new slotting options allow us to optimally enhance more aspects of a power AND get the nice set bonuses, that's just moving the balance towards "I win" and thus away from the (dev subjective) balance equilibrium point.
It's not the OP's suggestion vs. purples. Presumably if they came out with the multiaspect enhancements with set bonuses that he suggested, there could be regular versions of them and purple versions. They're not mutually exclusive. |
The developers game balance is obviously not geared towards people who deck themselves out in nothing but purple IO sets, or people who deck themselves out in nothing but HOs, or people who deck themselves out in nothing but DOs, either for that matter.
The game is "balanced" around SOs still. Anything above and beyond SOs is above and beyond how the developers "intend content to be experienced". Does that make it broken? Not really.
These proposed sets though would have to have some intense bonuses, both on the IOs themselves and the set bonuses to make them "broken." Because, at least as I'm reading it he's not posing that they have any higher bonus than other multi-effect IOs, just bonuses that would aid multi-effect powers like healing/res or healing/to-hit debuff, or countless others.
Just like how acc/dam IOs aid attack powers, or def/end redux aids defense toggles, or heal/recharge, or any of the other combinations that you can actually find.
Like I said. No more broken.
Too much work vs. the number of players that could use them.. but not broken.
I had come up with an idea I thought a few others shared about some multiple parts of a power to enhance. I was thinking some new special IO's could be made that enhance multiple parts of a power. For example the True Grit Shield Defense power enhances Health and Resistance. I thought it would be cool if there could be IO Sets made that enhance both parts of the power and get set bonuses as well.
Because I know there a few people out there that would like to enhance both but would also like set bonuses for that power as well. It could be a bit hard to decide which part of the power to put enhance with an IO Set.
I even have an idea of what kind of name to call them. It could be Incarnate IO Sets or Fury IO Sets [Well of Furies kind of thing] and they could only drop from Incarnate foes [Statesman, Recluse and Reichsman]
Or they could make a new TF/SF that involves some villain group finding the Well of Furies even though it was pretty much buried. And the reward at the end could be a random "Incarnate/Fury" IO or you could choose Merits.
So I'm pretty much just trying to say Hami Origin with Set Bonuses =P
Anybody else think this would be a neat idea?
