Hey guys, I tried to update my mids but it kept crashing. So then I uninstalled it and tried to re-install the new version of mids but it keeps giving me an error of
"Error opening file for writing: C:\Program Files\ Titan Network\Mids Hero Designer\Hero Designer.exe"
I am computer-stupid. Can anyone help? -
The one you actually know how to play. Proven time and again.

Quote:Adding my own anecdote! My own little anecdote from last night. Started a duo with my wife, we have a special teaming night we have missed for a coupel of weeks and our characters dropepd back a few levels.
Within a couple of mins, that was upto a team of 4, then for most of the night it was a team of 8.
We were 24 to start, and got through to 26. On the team were a couple of folks in the low 30s, some in the 20s and a couple of lowbies with jetpacks.
Now the latter would happily have been sidekicked before, but the keeping powers when -5 levels and XP when exemping meant the 30s folks were more than happy to tag along.
I simply cannot praise the whole SSK package enough for making it easy to build and maintain teams. It has been a paradigm shift, that will take some time, beofre it is fully appreciated.
You know how sewer teams used to be a very delicate balance? At such low levels you'd have to wait on a controller or empath or kin in order to spam heals so that those darn Vazh's didn't kill you dead right away? Every once in a while a nice 50 would tag along and heal you and rez you.
Yesterday when trying to put together a sewer team there were no lowbie defenders or controllers. So I happily opened the team search window and sent tells to the higher levels asking them to please exemp down for a short while and join our sewer team. They'd still get XP and we'd get easy heals.
You know? I got a few yeses and none of these were my griends. Just another way i16 wins. -
Quote:Now they are easy to find on the high population servers, on Infinity I could almost never find any PUGs, except low-level blue side
Infinity is hardly a low population server.
That having been said, what do people mean when they say they "can't find a team". How are you looking? -
Quote:Yes.Is there some trick I'm missing, some little detail that makes tanking fun? I know if I ever manage to get a tanker to 40+ it'll be good, but how can I get there? Thanks.
Tankers, as some people here have alluded to, are notoriously squishy early on (combinations of gauntlet, taunt and taunt aura). But you have to realize that your job in the early game is a little different than your job in the later game. In the early game your job is to keep the mob aggroed on you, not your teammates, and if that means you die, well at least it was only you rather than a whole team wipe.
In the later game your job changes a little. Because now it's not just the effort to keep aggro on you. You also have to survive that aggro. That's your job 32+. Keep aggro, survive in order to keep more aggro. Dealing damage is certainly a bonus, but if you're not having fun fulfilling your tanker "jobs" then tanking is not for you.
Good luck and have fun! -
Quote:This.I'm pretty sure the villain doesn't spawn until the player enters the general vicinity of the bank, at which point 'The Bank Is Being Robbed" warning flashes across the screen. If, in fact, my memory serves me correctly, it's not at all harmful to leisurely make one's way to the bank during a Safeguard. Only when the warning message is flashed must one make haste.
In fact. If you can get a key before you reach the bank or start the timer on the bankrobbers, you can finish a side mission. I've done that plenty of times.
DarkGob is also wrong about redside mayhems. In the early levels (such as the OP's level 7), if you "take time" to try to destroy cars which at that level are purple, you will be wasting time and the bonus for destroying the cars won't be equal to as much time as you waste trying to destroy them.
This is why I mentioned ambushes as opposed to objects. If it's your first safeguard/mayhem, you're not going to be concerned with anything other than completing the objective. This isn't the time to start learning Safeguard/Mayhem mechanics unless you're with someone who's done them before and can lead you along. -
Just a quick fyi:
If you're planning to talk to the detective/broker and do radio/paper missions, before introducing you to your first contact they'll want you to do a "bank mission" which blueside will have you stopping a villain from robbing a bank or on the redside will have you robbing the bank.
Basics: Don't run to the banks and skip everything in between. Take your time going to the bank and kill any ambushes on your way there. Everything else is gravy.
There are other tips and tricks, so if you do end up running a bank mission and want more advice or help or even someone to run with you, don't hesitate to send me a PM. -
I can't believe nobody mentioned this!

ITF, I was on my 50 rad/rad corruptor. I -usually- run right into the middle of mobs with my corr and picking them off quickly so I end up getting scrapperlocked. Well this is exactly what happened that day on the ITF. We were on the second mission and I was in the zone, doing well, killing traitors and suddenly out of nowhere found myself faceplanted.
I looked up to see that a few other squishies were either in the red or on the floor and knew immediately what happened. I said, "Oops. Didn't realize that was a crystal."
For the rest of that mission, everytime we came near a crystal I heard a version of "Sister, this is a crystal." -
Anyone ever done one? I'm itching to do it and wondering if anyone's done it and what their experiences were doing it.
If not, thoughts? -
Two tankers so far. I always play support toons so it was, Corruptor, Controller, Defender and then Tanker (I always believed Tanking is more of a support AT, it's job being to keep others alive.) . I should have started tanking sooner. I'm so in my niche here. WP/DB and Fire/Fire (being leveled up uberslow).
Too hard to accomplish with my WP/DB? Probably damage. But I'm working on building her with IO sets for damage. She just turned 50 a month ago.
There are people out there who are convinced only a stone tanker can tank the ITF so it was problematic getting her on ITF teams. I lead a lot of generic mission teams, not a lot of Task Forces, but with my tanker now I find myself putting task forces together.
My WP/DB Tanker is a heroic oddity. She joined ELITE in order to acquire contacts to find her sister in the Rogue Isles (an MM I play redside) and is a reluctantly costumed hero. She's my homage to Elektra (of Marvel fame) and Indiana Jones.
My Fire/Fire Tanker is not a typical hero. She was a mediocre athlete who couldn't get become a professional and was hired by a company in order to test out their plasma generating equipment. The company has ties to Crey unbeknownst to, well, anyone.
They're fun to play and I like leading teams so they're an easy choice.
Also... I mean, come on. There's something awesome about being surrounded by reds and purples bashing at you and almost never seeing your green bar move. -
Quote:Did it occur to you that part of the reason it's a bad team is because it admits people under 35? Since AE came out, I've been doing 22+ and kicking anyone who didn't have at least one IO set bonus listed under powers - because some people don't slot -anything- into their powers and expect teams to drag them to 50. These players are still going to be missing important powers from their primary and secondary sets though, and flat out will not be as effective as higher level characters.
Please tell me this is a joke.
Just because I don't slot sets into my toons (No, not even most of my 50's, it's not worth it to me inf-wise) that means you have to -drag- me around? Apparently it's too difficult to look at anything else in the character profile. If a glaring set bonus doesn't jump out at you, then obviously the player with (OMG) -only- six vet badges obviously doesn't know how to play! Everyone without set bonuses is obviously missing important powers from their primary and secondary.
Which leads me to my next question: How do -you- know what is a an important power missing from -my- toon?
I've seen just as many people who were vets with all the "right" powers know absolute zilch about the game. I mean right down to the fact that a thermal should be using the shields that they took during power selection. -
Yeah, that sounds like what someone in this thread mentioned before: The Alternate Build has you train seperately for each level.
-
-
Have there been any updates on the leveling pacts? I remember initially there was a lot of talk about expanding the pacts to more than just two players, but I haven't heard anything recently, but that might be because I wasn't looking for info at the time.
-
Thanks guys, I appreciate all the tips here. It's pretty much exactly what I asked for since I don't like to build according to other people's experiences.
-
I have read many a thread and have listened to many people complain about Fire Armor, but I don't care because I've seen Fire Tankers in action and they are monsters. I understand it won't be as easy to play as my WP tanker. WP is such a set it and forget it set. I love it a lot, but I want something different for my next tanker.
Now that that's out of the way, can all you Fire/Fire tankers out there who love your toons please give some advice as to what to expect? I plan to level this tanker up the old fashioned way (you know, not AE) so I'm sure I'll build my own strategy, but I'd like a takeoff point. What kinds of strategies do you guys use and to what end?
Thanks! -
I had my share of noob moments. And the more I think about it, the more of them I recall...
-When I first got the game my boyfriend was soooo excited I was finally going to play with him and he brought out his level 40 MM and made me go to GV. I was a level 2 trying to run my way through GV.
-That same night, when I finally made my way into a mission, I started leveling. I thought I couldn't level again without training, so I insisted that we exit the mission and my boyfriend run me all the way across the zone to the trainer. Then I was amazed that he knew where everything was! (Map? We have one of those??)
-I started getting into badging really really early and found out there was an awesome badge for a thing called a TF, but I had to do it by level 15 or I wouldn't get the badge! So four weeks into the game I formed a team of four and we tried to do the Cap TF.
- I was teamed with an SG mate and looking at his badges when I noticed an awesome set called "Vet badges". I asked him how I could get those and he said, "By playing the game." I thought he was either being a jerk or was really stupid and vague. I kept asking everyone I could about them and eventually gave up. I only found out how you get them when I got my first one at three months.
And this last one was someone else's noob moment. I was exchanging tells with someone who was obviously new to the game and obviously an AE baby. (Level 50, didn't know what a TF was.)
"Hey, how do you get that awesome Roman Costume?" (I actually didn't have a roman costume on so it was a mt. Still, I knew what she was talking about, so I answered.
"You have to do the Imperious Task Force."
"How do I do it?"
"Have you done the Midnight Hour Arc?"
"What's that?"
"[Explanation]"
"Is there a point to doing this other than the costume pieces?"
Hehe. -
Oboro. If you don't have the badge, go to Wentworth or the Black Market and just ask someone to open the portal for you. So long as you're level 25 and up, you can go in. Once inside make sure you get the badge yourself, that way you can open up the portal on your own in the future.
Oboro has its own storyarcs, including a TF you can run yourself given by Mender Silos (I love this storyarc), and it also has the icecubes with the fire inside that allow you to exemp to just about every storyarc in the game. I find that a lot of times it's easier for me to do content this way rather than leveling up with content because I'm neurotic about organization and Oboro ensures I don't miss anything.
Also, I recommend doing Levantera's opening arc to the Rikti War Zone because 1- You don't get Vanguard merits otherwise. And 2- It gives some background information. Consequent missions from her will eventually open up other contacts in RWZ and those are a lot of fun, aside from which - I don't know anyone who doesn't love a good Mothership Raid.
Play the market (BM or WW). I know it sounds silly, but for me it's very much a "sidegame". I like to see how much inf I can make how fast.
Also. If you haven't already, join badging channels. The people who run those TF's are usually very serious about them and won't just randomly drop out. Those channels are also really good for random Q&A, people like to help out.
Oh. And someone mentioned badges. Some badges are just plain fun to get. Some unlock contacts and some unlock custom weapons or costume pieces. Those are fun to work towards. They can be found on the wiki.
... think I'm done now. -
But when exemping... you always lose those powers. Unless you mean joining a team and going into the mish where you can, as the higher level, beat on the foes that con grey to you and purple to your buds. Other than that I don't really see an issue with exemping, particularly since you'll still have the option to do it with increased infamy instead of the XP.
Really my only problem with this is during Mothership Raids. I tend to lead teams during those raids and I'm not always the highest level toon on the team. If I bring a 45 to a mothership raid, the option would either be, don't be a leader, bring a higher level toon, or reduce your entire team to level 45s. That would be a particular annoyance for me. -
More than just the end recovery, SB is incredibly useful for its +Recharge so Transfusion isn't really a replacement for it.
-
As a controller kin I'd way rather concentrate on my primaries than have to stare at the buff screen waiting for the speed boost icon to start blinking. Yes, I'll SB as much as I can between mobs, but I'm not going to stop FSing and throwing out holds in order to SB a defender or someone who should be able to live without SB for a full minute.
That having been said, I personally perfer it when people call out for SB. -
Quote:Yes. Which is why I said that I'd take two of them if they're kins. Between two kins who are controllers I'd expect if they're each even half decent, that makes one decent controller /kinControls help a lot yes, but frequently Controller players have too many things to keep on top of to be really good at all of them. /Kins especially.
But seriously, I'm not one of those people who think that trollers who are /kins are kin/trollers. They're controllers first. Kins second. That's what -I- expect from controller kins, but that's probably because I play one.
