New Playing Style of Troller Kins?
No, its just bad playing. Of course some Controllers feel that Secondary powers are just secondary and would rather focus on using their primaries. Nothing new there.
If you're in the middle of a long fight a speed boost wears off with the controller not noticing, that's all right in my book. But they should be trying to keep it up (on people who want it of course) when they can.
When I play my controllers I tend to focus a little more on my primary, but I don't totally ignore my secondary skills either. Especially a power like fulcrum shift. Speed Boost can get lost a bit if I'm distracted in a fight.
Depends on the situation you're in, but I'd say it sounds like bad playing.
People read fire/kins are 'teh awesome farm' characters, level them up fast not really playing in an active manner, and then inflict themselves on the rest of us.
Its just bad players with characters they aren't familiar with. Either they will learn, or if they dont, they will accumulate commenst in player notes that allow you to avoid them.
*generic 'they' and 'you' used
** Not evenone who PL's/farms a new 50 has no idea of how to play said character

Oh and this is hardly a new phenomonon. I have seen it for a long time, it does seem to be more prevelent recently. I dont think I have seen things quite this bad since the WL babies.

This says it. I tend to build my toons for a mix of team and solo ability. AE has kinda ruined that with "gotta level fast to 50 Zomg!!!"
I have been on TF's with my troller and it's been kinda tough when I'm trying to use the primaries to keep the team alive with Transfusion/FS/SB also thrown in. But when the "Whole" team crying SB constantly when we/I need that one hold/immob/Heal... it's kinda hard to tell them that I'll get to it when I can.
Yes, AE has made bad players who are door sitters and have no idea how to team right.
meh.
"every defender needs to fight. I don't care if you have to use BRAWL!"
Make keybinds for SB and it's way easier. Saying you're only focusing on your primary and not your secondary only makes you half as effective on a team.
Try playing a scrapper and not turning on any of your shields.
I play Fire (and other)/Kins a lot and I have got to the point where if invited to a TF I will say from the outset that while I plan on giving out SB when I can my primary concern is damage.
And for a while I refused to even team with my ???/kins I got so sick of the SB plz every ten seconds.
If you want a character to be primarily a buffer get a defender, if you want control/damage get a controller who can when not otherwise engaged buff too.

Second, I never said I don't use my secondary. I said that I tend to focus on my primary when in a fight. Which means that if I have to make a choice between trying to protect the team and drop and very much needed AoE hold/immobilize/whatever and keeping a buff like speed boost up 100% of the time...I'm going to chose the first option. My job is to protect the team and I play with that in mind. Protecting the team depends on the situation too. Like, if you're fighting ghost widow on a STF, making sure the tank has the proper amount of mez protection suddenly becomes priority number 1.
If somebody is dying I'm not going to not heal them because I'm in the middle of re-applying speed boost. It's a lot faster with binds, which I use, but it still takes a big chunk of time, especially on larger teams and in combat there's often much more important things to be doing. I do get around to it eventually though.
And I'm not saying that controllers that never buff get a pass since that's an important part of their role in the team. But it's a secondary role and should be understood as such. If you want somebody who's primary purpose it to make sure everybody is buffed, a Defender is what you're looking for. There's definitely overlap, but the primary focus of the two is designed to be different.
Speed Boost is why I won't play a Kin.
Assuming it lasts about 90 seconds (I personally think its less, and dont feel like looking it up) and it has a 1 second cast time, and a 1 second wait time, and people want ID for mez protection, which lasts about as long as SB, has same cast ime, and same recharge, and adding in 3 imps, your talking 10 beings taking about 2 seconds each, minimum of 20 seconds out of every 90 you are buffing just these two powers (even w/o ID its the same time, but half the end usage). I like to ply the game, I do not like playing DDR. Dont get me wrong, my blasters and scrappers love kins, but i played one for a while a deleted cause i was bored with perma buffing.
After reading through this thread, I kinda feel like the odd man out. I love playing my troler and protecting my teammates. I found it to be an easy decision after looking through all the ATs and their abilities. I knew instantly that I wanted to create a controler for my first hero. I get a high off of saving that teammate from the brink of death - bringing back to life the vital tanker who is laying dead at the feet of a dozen enemy goons. I know that im not scoring all the XP that I could, but I know that I am doing my team a great service and that is all the satisfaction I need. I felt the same way playing Diablo on the playstation 10 years ago. After my first week of playing this game, I'm already seeing alot of people who have lost sight of why they play RP games like this.
I just recently leveled a fire/kin troller to level 50. Occasionally, I will have a tank ask for SB even tho I just recently used Siphon Speed on a enemy right next to him and I have the icon in my list showing it worked. Isn't Siphon Speed similar to Speed Boost, but it gives a speed boost to everyone within range of target? I have seen my toon move real fast with Siphon Speed.
The Siphon Speed buff is only for you. Lets you keep up with your Speed Boosted teammates.

You have indeed seen your toon move very fast after using it, but if you pay attention you will notice that (unless you have already Speed Boosted them) your toon is the ONLY one on the team moving very fast.

Ive recently started playing a Kin/Arch and will admit I dont remember to keep SB up all the time, I try and reapply in between fights when I can or Ive noticed that particular toons are running low of Endurance. During a fight I think I get 'defender lock' that Im more worried about getting my heal, siphon power etc out as much as possible along with the odd attack. Now I have transfusion (just hit lvl 26) I see myself SBing during battle less and using that to recover a teams End and concentrate on SB when between battles.
Did anybody mention Siphon Speed only affects the caster?
Pretty sure Siphon Speed only affects the caster.
Might want to mention that Siphon Speed only affects the caster, don't forget!

As a controller kin I'd way rather concentrate on my primaries than have to stare at the buff screen waiting for the speed boost icon to start blinking. Yes, I'll SB as much as I can between mobs, but I'm not going to stop FSing and throwing out holds in order to SB a defender or someone who should be able to live without SB for a full minute.
That having been said, I personally perfer it when people call out for SB.

I could do with a speed boost to type and post quicker!
Thank you for the answer, I missed that part, I saw the animation do the swirly thing from my target and thought anyone in range got hit by Siphon Speed.

That being said, is there a keybind that makes SB faster and/or easier for applying than clicking on the person's name in the team window and hitting the power's regular hotkey?
I'm not used to applying buffs to team-mates so I haven't had much experience there.
I use a set of bind from the numpad:
ctrl+numpad1 team_select 1
ctrl+numpad2 team_select 2
ctrl+numpad3 team_select 3
ctrl+numpad4 team_select 4
ctrl+numpad5 team_select 5
ctrl+numpad6 team_select 6
ctrl+numpad7 team_select 7
ctrl+numpad8 team_select 8
ctrl+numpadenter powexec_name Speed Boost
ctrl+add powexec_name Increase Density

Mr. Heat Stroke:
Could you expand a bit on the keybinds suggestion, please?
What's your favorite way to keybind for SB?
I'm cool with /binds use them all the time, you don't have to be specific in parsing - just lemme know how you've found binds best benefiting the doling out of SB.
So I've been playing my lvl 40 scrapper, lvl 50 scrapper and lvl 50 blaster a lot lately. Haven't played many of my lvl 50 Troller/Kins in a while, so this could be, I am just getting senile. But I have been on 4 failed STF this week, where the kins (different kins, mind you) are forgetting to use SB, Transference and FS. You have to remind them. Is this a new playing style that I haven't kept up with?
