  1. If you've played that many primaries into the 30s and none clicked for you, then I'd say Stalkers are just not for you. You don't play them because they do the most damage, you play them because the play style appeals to you, which in your case it clearly doesn't.

Maybe it's a matter of adjusting your expectations. If you try to play a Stalker like a Brute or Scrapper, it will just be a weaker version of those ATs. You have to embrace your inner Stalker. ;P

But yeah, probably just not for you.
  2. I've had it happen to me a number of times now. Unfortunately it happens too sporadically for me to have an opportunity to try to nail down the cause or solution. I can say that if I continue playing the power will eventually begin recharging normally, even if I don't zone. I've tried looking for a way to force it but so far haven't had any luck. I'll try /sync next time it happens.

    /WP for Stalkers

I think Willpower is one of, if not the strongest Stalker secondary. Once IO'ed you can be softcapped to S/L/E/N, with good defense values for other types. That defense is backed by decent resistances as well. If you also take Tough you'll have 50% S/L resistance. Add a very nice self heal to the mix and you have one extremely durable Stalker.

The +HPs are of very limited value IMO. Once accoladed the majority of that benefit is wasted. I guess you could say one benefit of the set is that there's no need to get any of the +HP accolades.
  4. Last time I checked Blinding Powder accepted confuse sets but not sleep sets.
  5. I'm pretty sure I have Spark and/or Static Charge....somewhere. I guess I could sift through my bases and various old toons to find them. Send me a PM to remind me and I'll go digging.

Thanks for the idea, I think I'll have to steal it.

As for OG, I tend to only take it with primaries that have stuns, even unreliable ones. My KM/DA can't reliably stun bosses 100% of the time, but it happens a fair bit.

CoF is a dog of a power, but I take any source of extra AoE damage I can get. That's one of the few reasons I'm looking forward to Ice Armor. That'll be at least one more secondary that can slot a damage proc, although going from memory it will only take one as opposed to CoF's two.

Well my /Sonic build has capped HP and as much regen as I could squeeze in. I doubt a pure regen build could attain enough extra regen to even begin to compensate for the loss of 70% S/L resistance and 53% energy resistance, along with the lower resistances to everything else.
  8. I think most of us, when building for survivability on our squishies, build for defense, and for good reason. It not only provides the greatest returns in pure survivability, but also grants a sort of pseudo mez and debuff protection. I get bored of always building for defense though so I'm looking for alternatives to mix things up. I know no other option is going to provide the same amount of broad spectrum mitigation. I'm not looking for something equal to defense necessarily, just something that provides meaningful mitigation.

So far I've built a Sonic Resonance Corruptor that I'm quite fond of, and does indeed feel very different from my defense builds. Mez protection, strong resistances, HP cap, and a nice chunk of regen. Once I added Rebirth Destiny this toon feels nigh unkillable.

I'm currently leveling a Pain Dom Corruptor which I expect to be similar, except using Clarion Destiny for mez protection and gaining HP recovery from the secondary.

After that I'm out of ideas. I realize we don't have a whole lot of options for passive damage mitigation, but I'm hoping I missed a good one or two.

So how about it? Anyone got any builds or suggestions for highly survivable Corruptors that are not defense-based?

I should note that I am not looking for active mitigation. It's not that I'm not a fan of it, but there are too many situations where it cannot be reliably applied.

For me the answer is twofold. First I tend to get reward merits from just playing my toons, so why not burn them on LotGs? LotGs are generally one of the highest cost items so it's not like there's a lot of potential inf being lost like there is using merits to buy lower cost items. Second I like using lower level IOs for exemping purposes, and those generally move much more slowly on the market. Buying with merits puts them in my hands right now.
  10. My enhancement bin distribution is similar to yours, though I have fewer due to having other storage items. On toons I'm leveling I random roll all my reward merits at some point in the 30s, so the contents of the bins is always in flux. When it comes time to slot up a build I go raid the bins and I seldom know in advance what IOs will be there, which makes it kind of fun.

I also take an approach to leveling that usually has me approaching 30 alignment merits when I hit level 50. So each new toon since alignment merits came out generates a 3% def IO or equivalent as part of the leveling process. Not all of my builds use them, so I end up with a surplus over time which is allowing me to slowly refit my existing 50s to use them as appropriate.

Not a system that would work for many I know, but it does work quite well for me.

  12. I heavily franken-slot it to get good enhancement values and squeeze in 2 damage procs to turn it into a pseudo damage aura. It's not like having the real thing but it's the closest a Stalker can get.
  13. Okay well I didn't have much to go on but I decided to take a wild stab at it anyway. Let me know what you think. Note that while I tried to keep the build priced low, I did include a small number of premium IOs. I find it quite worth getting those with reward/alignment merits if inf is in short supply, so I included them in the build. If you'd rather not have them, I don't think it will hurt the build overly to remove them.

I built for a bit of defense, close to 20% on S/L/E/N. Nothing to write home about, but a nice base to build on with external buffs and inspirations.

  14. I like KM/DA on a Stalker. You get the 100% critical on Burst from Hide, the auto-recharge on Build Up, and can stack stuns to mez bosses. Good stuff.
  15. I have both Cloak of Fear and Oppressive Gloom on my /DA Stalker, so some of what I have to say may be because I have both.

In my experience, the auras do not suppress with Placate. What that means is that if I am standing next to a mob and Placate, the Placate is very quickly broken by the auras. If I want to AS for example, I have to back out of range of the auras, Placate, then wait for Hide to kick in before moving back in and queuing AS. Not really worth it. So running the auras means I don't use Placate->AS much anymore. You can still Placate->critical with minimal hassle though.

Another thing is that running my /DA has highlighted for me is how often I will wait an extra half a second or so in certain situations for Hide to kick in so I can get a critical strike. That doesn't work with the auras. Since they are constantly ticking you will never reenter hidden state while standing in range of a mob even if you never activate an attack.

How much those are issues for you is dependent on your preferences and play style.
  16. I agree that dark combos should have a stealth power available. I'm disappointed this is not the case with Dark Manipulation.
  17. Invader will be the hard one, since you'd have to have a toon in every 5-level range to get all the mayhem missions you'd need.

Other than that it's just a few hunts, some exploration and history badges, and a few flashbacks.

I just want to point out that this is good advice for leveling if you're having endurance problems, but not for a final build. You want full damage enhancement eventually.

I would try to franken-slot cheap IOs for heavy endurance reduction for leveling up, along with whatever damage/recharge you can squeeze in. Then overwrite those IOs when you are ready to slot your final build.

As for providing a build, I find it nearly impossible to put together a build for someone without knowing about their preferences. My suggestion is to either put together a starter build for people to work from, or provide some more information about what you want from the build, such as:
    • Preferred travel power (or willingness to skip one)
    • Primarily solo or team (or mix)
    • Any other pool powers you want (or definitely don't want)
    • Same for Patron/Epic pools
    • Survivability (do you need to be able to tank?)
    • etc.

You've discussed your budget, at least in general terms, so that's a start, but more information will help others help you.
  19. It'll be hard to have someone else get you the damage and debt badges.
  20. I don't remember which red name posted it, but it was said that the reason for lowering Brute Fury was because they were not supposed to be on par with Scrappers on damage since they already outdid them on survivability. The obvious implication being that there is a continuum. The more survivability you have, the less damage you deal, and no AT should outdo another on more than one of those metrics.

Stalkers have less survivability than other melee ATs. Based on the above logic they should do more damage than any of them. By that I don't mean in a specific set of circumstances such as an entire team huddled up on you. All the time.

Add in the lack of AoE, and Stalkers should be the single-target kings, and not by a slim margin.

If balance demands that their damage cannot be increased (and I'm not conceding that point necessarily), then to me it seems perfectly reasonable that the other areas be addressed. Those being survivability and AoE.

A raising of the HP cap so their powers can work properly seems obvious, especially given that it will have minimal impact on baseline performance.

All that said, I suspect that the devs don't compare Stalkers to other melee ATs for balance consideration, which is why those comparisons are unlikely to gain any traction.
  21. It's not just Virtue either, it happens on Freedom's Sharkhead with some regularity. The hamster powering Sharkhead really needs to be replaced for good.

Best bet is to Ouroboros portal out, or if that isn't an option Pocket D teleporter or similar.
  22. I just want to add that I won't usually create a build for someone from scratch without knowing some things about their build preferences first. Posting a starter build is a good way to provide that information. There are just too many possibilities. The odds of hitting what the requester wants are slim without more information than just primary/secondary/ancillary.

So to the OP, the request for you to provide a build was reasonable, and for future reference you'll get a lot more helpful replies if you provide a starter build or at least some more information on your build preferences.
  23. I only have one /Nin Stalker. I tend to like taking non-defense secondaries and building for defense.

I'll probably roll an /Ice Stalker just to have one, but it has the same problem as most typed defense sets, a gaping psi hole. Psi damage is way too common to be considered "exotic". The one tool Invuln and Ice get that helps with psi damage, Dull Pain, is of much less value for a Stalker. On an IO build If I don't make capping HP a high priority I still usually end up 50 to 100 points away from the cap after accolades.

So I don't see it being any different than it is for Regen Stalkers. It will be a heal on a very long recharge, which when you're getting hammered with psi damage will buy you a few seconds, and then you will be defeated.

ISC has the same end usage as most of the PBAoEs Doms get. It's only slightly higher in end/recharge/damage than Whirling Hands, and is almost identical to Psychic Shockwave. The only difference between the two is that PS gets an extra point of damage. That was done to mollify people who were upset about the nerfing of the power due to the Dom revamp.

During the Dom revamp most of the PBAoEs were standardized in area and in most other ways. ISC is no better or worse than other PBAoEs.

Icy Assault does tend to use a bit more end than other sets just by virtue of it's generally fast animations (for single-target attacks. AoEs are on par or below other sets). I found the end burn manageable, though barely, before IOs, so I don't think you should feel like you need to pair /Icy with Elec/ for the extra end to run it unless you don't want to use IOs or have a severely constrained budget.

The first Dom I really fell in love with was a Plant/Ice. That was a long time ago on my old server. When I wanted to roll a Plant Dom on my current server I went with Plant/Fire instead. There are times I wish I'd copied my old dom instead. Icy Assault doesn't do as much damage, but for me it's just more fun somehow.

What are you basing that on? According to the CoD entry for Ignite and Burn, neither are autohit and both have 1.0 accuracy.
