  1. Stealth is not Invisibility.

Using just Stealth (from any of the "stealth" powers (or superspeed) or from the IO) will allow you to get closer to the mobs before you are seen (how close depends on the mob's perception bonuses) but get close enough and any mob will see you.

The Stealth IO is slightly less effective that the actual stealth powers (just barely) but it has the advantage of not costing any endurance (well, except for the power you've got it slotted into) and that it will stack with another stealth power.

The Stealth IO + a stealth power (or superspeed) *almost* equals normal Invisibility. Mobs with bonus perception will still eventually see you, but most normal mobs won't. Until you attack that is.

Using the stealth IO + a stealth power will let you get off one attack before it's suppressed out of existence (which the normal power pool 'Invisibility' power won't let you do, but the Illusion Control 'Superior Invisibility' does).
  2. Oh, and I'm pretty sure you already know this (since you've already OC'd the CPU) but...

OverClocking the 1366 chips isn't quite as straight forward as OC'ing the old 775 chips.

What with moving the memory controller onto the CPU itself and getting rid of the seperate northbridge and all, there's a few gotcha's that can crop up and hurt performance.

Here's a nice basic guide for OC on the I7's. No earth-shattering revalations in it, but it does list a few of those 'gotcha' things to look out for and does a pretty good job of showing the differences in the 1366's vs the 775's.

  3. Also, since it's informing you of the file that it's having trouble reading, you could go in and manually delete that file before doing the "fix all files" checked update. That way you can ensure that the game MUST re-download the suspect file.

EDIT: just make sure that it's actually a CoH file and not some Windows file that's being mis-reported. That one does look to be in the CoH directories, so should be safe to delete.
  4. Given the small sample size you listed, it looks to me like you may just be within the error margin of that test.

Granted, that's a rather large error margin, but Sanctuary is designed more as a GPU "show-off" type test rather than one of the hard-core testing apps.

    The scores were:
    3.2: 11174
    2.66: 11215
    3.2: 11201

I'd want several more runs at stock speed vs OC'd speed before I'd make any conclusions.

As far as upping your voltage, if you are stable (several long Prime95 or other CPU stress test apps), then you shouldn't need to change the voltage.

I usually up the voltage a bit to find either my max (or hit my desired) OC, then start scaling back the voltage until it becomes unstable, so I can use minimum voltage for maximum OC.

Doing so, I've found that "stock" voltage is almost always way too high for "stock" speed stability and you can usually use that extra power for mid-level OCs. (assuming hard-set voltage and not "auto" settings)
  5. Well, I'm using a 1 version older copy of Mids (post I-16 with Dual Pistols, but not the latest I-17 version with Demon Summoning) and it IS adding the buff to the unique like the game used to.

    With Health + 2 IO's = 169% regen

    With Health + 2 IO's + Unique = 192% regen (should be 189%)

I can't get the absolute latest version installed at the moment, but it's easy to check.

Agreed mostly. Heck during beta most of us were saying that the whole "your machine can run ultra mode" popup was a Bad Idea (tm).

Had the OP come in with "Hey, I just started and things are running pretty poorly, any advice to help?" then it would be one thing.

But No, he comes in all "This game sucks, I'm taking it back!!!!! {rage, rant, troll, etc}"

    Let's see:
"The Updater took ages to download the 2.5gb updates": Oh really? We actually have one of the faster update servers out there. Heck, last night it took me over 2 1/2 HOURS to download Portal off of Steam....I was getting speeds in the BITS per second...

"The installer toook a while. forgivable btw": What? There's NOTHING TO FORGIVE. Dude, that's your machine and NOTHING else.

"a hamster in a little bicycle its powering my graphics" Yeah, it is. That's what happens when you run an underpowered system.

other {rant, ragequit, troll, etc} comments: See Ya.

[Of course, maybe I'm just in a bad mood today .... :P]
  7. You're using an old, even by it's own chip family, core 2 duo

Ancient, and underpowered to begin with, video

You are trying to run the new ultra graphics mode *DESIGNED FOR MODERN HIGH-END (note the high-end)* machines and ranting that it's not working very well for you?

    OK.

See, that's one of the things that kind of bug me when folks start going "I've got an older xxx yyy zzz and I'm running with full ultra-mode". They almost never say that while they may have turned on UM, they are running at something like 10-12 fps by doing so.

Obviously tolerances vary from person to person on what is acceptable performance.

Me? I can't play with anything below 30 fps. Any lower than that and I can see the screen flicker/jittering and it makes me nauseous. Even at 30 fps it's slightly noticable and causes an occasional "cross-eyed" moment for me while playing.

So, as far as I'm concerned at least, if I can't get 30+ (preferably 40+) fps consistently then it's not "playable". With my current rig (couple of years old), I can turn on some of UM (reflections and water effects mostly) and stay with the stencil shadows while still maintaining 55-60 (vsynch locked) fps. So that's my ultra-mode.
  9. Keep an eye on your statement. With as strange as that mess-up sounds, I'd be worried about multiple charges accidently hitting the card.
  10. "as I add sets" makes me think you are talking about Global Recharge bonuses from set IOs

The individual power recharge times shown when you hover the mouse over the power only shows the result of recharge modifications that are directly slotted into the power and not the cumulative effect of Global Recharge bonuses.
  11. Centriole's are Damage/Range.

So not worthless, but not the best either, and (if I'm remembering correctly) in the past they were like the most common HO to drop.

Oh and this isn't really what I'd call Multi-Level Marketing, it's a Pyramid Scheme (not that there's much difference between the two) :P
  12. If what you're getting is the Launcher/Updater just sitting there doing nothing, here's one thing that usually works for me:

    1) open a command window (in windows: start->run->{type in} cmd {press enter})

    2) {type in} ipconfig /flushdns {press enter}

    3) repeat step #2 (I usually do it twice...may not actually help, but it doesn't hurt and every now and then just doing it once doesn't seem to be "enough")

    4) {type in} ipconfig /registerdns {press enter}

[note: In Vista or Win 7, this will probably come back with "The requested operation requires elevation". In that case you have to run the command window as an administrator, or just don't bother with the #4 step...it will usually work without it]

This has almost always fixed any connecting issues I've had with the launcher.

Anyway, I have all of those applied to my account, and I got the free month from each of them.

I can't add a second one of any of those codes, which was the point being made.
What I meant was that using the retail box code to get a free month applies to any retail box that you haven't yet applied to your account, other than the GR pre-purchase (because it didn't come with a free month). I guess it didn't come through as clearly in writing as it did in my head....
  14. As said, if you haven't had an AE edition (or any of the other retail boxes...other than the GR pre-purchase) applied to your account, then yes you get a free month with the code.

However, no you can't get the booster pack for yourself and give someone else the account code. It all gets applied to your account at once.

On the other hand, the older retail boxes including the AE and GvE editions can often be found over in the "el cheapo" racks at local gameshops/best buy/etc for much, much less than even the $15.00 value of the free month. So, if you want to give it as a gift, just go out and find a couple of copies and give them to friends....lure them into the game
  15. To answer your basic question, yes the case you've linked to has a 120mm exhaust fan hole in the back that you can use to mount the fan/radiator of the H50. So it should fit.

(although using it as an exhaust vent along with your radiator isn't the best way....you really want your radiator on the intake, getting fresh air rather than venting warmed air that's already been through the case)

Since you don't seem to want to do any mod work on the case though, you can just live with slightly increased temps. It's not like you've bought a very efficient water system anyway.

Before you go to a lot of work and/or purchases though, you should really look at WHY you want to go liquid. And probably do a LOT more research. Liquid cooling isn't for most folks, and frankly, those "pre-built, just plug it in, kits" are usually [pardon my language] c**p.

I've been running full water cooling for years, and it's a great thing, if you're willing to put in the time and effort to do it safely and effectively. But, for the *average* user, those kits are often worse than just getting a good after-market air cooler.

If you really want to get into water, PM me and I'll point you to some very good forums with tons of information and assistance, and I'll be happy to answer whatever I can as well.
  16. You'll get much better answers by asking this over in the Technical Issues area of the forums. The folks over there are just teeming with optimization info...

    In general though:

Your graphics settings are most likely causing the slow framerate and stuttering effect.

One way to check this is to start the game in "safe mode" - which will force everything down to the absolute bare minimums. If your issues go away, then it's your graphics. Finding the correct settings for your video card is something the folks over in Tech Issues can really help with. (You'll need to provide them with the correct info on what you've got though).

The crashing in busy areas may be graphics related or it may be available memory on your machine related.

    ---

As far as I know, there's no such thing as an "external" video card and upgrading the graphics cards in a laptop is problematic at best. So if your machine can't handle the game anymore, then you may be stuck with "upgrade to a new machine" as the only viable answer. However, if you used to be able to run the game reasonably well, then you should still be able to get to the same performance levels with the correct in-game settings.
  17. It's not as clean as it was before, but if you add ' (receipe)' [space, open paren, the word receipe, close paren] to the end of the search it will only show the receipes and filter out the crafted IOs
  18. I had the same thing with one of my characters that's gone through the arc, in regards to the mirrored coloring of the costume.

I really ended up liking my evil twin's costume coloring so much that I've adopted it on his secondary costume slot.

I think there's also the mis-perception [usually caused by games that rely on non-instanced areas, heavy spawn-camping, kill-stealing, etc], that unless there's a couple of hundred people visible at all times, getting in each other's way, and generally clogging up the area that the game must be "dead".
  20. And, as always, the first things to check with any "strange computer issues":

    1) Take off the side panel of your case.
    2) Clean out the insides of any dust bunnies, pet furballs, etc.
    3) Make sure all of your fans are actually running.
    4) Get/Use a temperature monitoring software and keep an eye on your temps.

The load time between zones isn't really a graphics thing (and it's not new).

    It's a machine-horse-power thing.

The single biggest "fix" for long load times between zones is to have enough RAM on your machine.

Going from 1 gig RAM to 2-3 gig RAM has in the past made some machines go from minutes to seconds on load time.

If you're really having a lot of problems, I'd recommend you go post a thread in the Technical section of the forums. There's a ton of people over there who will happily help you optimize what you've got now and give reasonable recommendations on how to improve things.
  23. Skipping over the fact that the game engine simply doesn't support water-running or wall-running. (Really, that's pretty much the only answer that needs to be given, but...)

If you really look at it, characters in the CoX world SHOULD NOT be able to run across water or run up the sides of buildings just via super-speed.

The top speed cap for running is 92.5 mph.

Now, I don't know how fast you'd actually have to be going to completely defy gravity and run up the side of a building, but I do know that it's a heck of a lot faster than 92.5 mph.

I can get my car up to the mid 90's if I want to and I really don't see it skipping it's way across the ocean or up the sides of buildings anytime soon .......
  24. If it's really no longer accepting Defense and/or defense enhancements aren't working anymore, then I'd say it's a bug. There wasn't any mention of it being altered.

But the question would then be is it a bug with the power (ie defense bonus changed to non-enhanceable) or just the info display?

Try getting a teammate into range and see what defense bonuses they get from it.

I'll check it out when I get home tonight too....
  25. Yep, I've definately seen a big increase in temp power drops. Question is, are the temp powers now on a different/extra drop table or is the higher drop rate affecting the drops of other recepies?
