game just stops working
when you launch the gave click on the button that says Check all Files - that should identify and replace any corrupt files.
Mind of Gaia lvl 50 Defiant's first Mind/Storm 'troller.
Deadly Doc 50 Dark/Dark Corr
and lots more on Pinnacle,Union and Defiant
Also, since it's informing you of the file that it's having trouble reading, you could go in and manually delete that file before doing the "fix all files" checked update. That way you can ensure that the game MUST re-download the suspect file.
EDIT: just make sure that it's actually a CoH file and not some Windows file that's being mis-reported. That one does look to be in the CoH directories, so should be safe to delete.
6000+ levels gained and 8 level 50's
Hello, my name is Soulwind and I have Alt-Itis.
I had similar problems a while back, and the only thing that fixed it was installing win 7. I was on XP at the time. It's possible that just wiping and reinstalling the game was what did it, but I dunno. Here's an old thread I started with a bunch of advice that didn't help:
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=141370
I also got similar errors in Champions Online, and there were a few threads on their boards about it (and Googling just now I found there were a few on the Star Trek Online boards too).
None of the file verification or deleting checksum advice I got did anything, because the files aren't actually corrupt (at least mine weren't). As far as I can tell, this may be a disk read problem, or some kind of hardware conflict I couldn't figure out. One thing I can tell you is that the hard drive I was using eventually crapped out, but it was a long time afterward.
For me, rebooting solved the issue temporarily, although it would always come back eventually. As I said, the only thing that actually worked was formatting the drive and installing Windows 7. You might consider getting a new hard drive and using it as your C drive. Good luck.

That may have worked in your case, but we should probably start with the easiest things first, especially the free easy things. Telling them to upgrade to Win 7 and geting a new hard drive may be overkill at this point.

First off, delete the coh.checksum file in your City of Heroes game folder, and the updater will check your game files and fix anything that needs fixing.
If that doesn't do it, we can take it from there.

Well, I already have windows 7. That's what came with the new computer I bought from Best Buy. But I'll try updating and what not and check for the files
Well, after paying attention to when it occurs, I've noticed it happens less frequently when I'm playing solo. I went for about 2 hours playing yesterday before it just stopped working.
It mostly happens after 2 or 3 missions when I'm in a team after I exit the mission.
I need help! I have windows 7, brand new computer, got it back in January so I still don't know a whole lot about Windows 7.
A lot of times when I'm playing, the game just stops working and Windows says that it's trying to solve the problem but I have to close program
I also get this message below sometimes
./piggs/player.pigg: Corrupt pig file detected
