Stealth IO questions!

I have a stealth IO slotted in sprint and it says it gives "stealth", but when I get around a mob I am instantly seen it seems and attacked. I tried with the actual pool power stealth and I was not attacked. So was it just weird luck or is the stealth IO a lot worse than the actual power pool stealth?

Second question is if I stack stealth and the sprint IO stealth is that invis? I forgot to try that and see, but would it act like superior invis?

If I recall correctly, the stealth io refreshes itself every 120 seconds. Might have been spottied in that micro window. Or the mobs you were fighting may have +perception (drones). As for stacking, I know it stacks with superspeed, not sure about stealth, steamy mist, or thier ilk... Sorry couldn't be more help.

Stealth is not Invisibility.

Using just Stealth (from any of the "stealth" powers (or superspeed) or from the IO) will allow you to get closer to the mobs before you are seen (how close depends on the mob's perception bonuses) but get close enough and any mob will see you.

The Stealth IO is slightly less effective that the actual stealth powers (just barely) but it has the advantage of not costing any endurance (well, except for the power you've got it slotted into) and that it will stack with another stealth power.

The Stealth IO + a stealth power (or superspeed) *almost* equals normal Invisibility. Mobs with bonus perception will still eventually see you, but most normal mobs won't. Until you attack that is.

Using the stealth IO + a stealth power will let you get off one attack before it's suppressed out of existence (which the normal power pool 'Invisibility' power won't let you do, but the Illusion Control 'Superior Invisibility' does).

Glad you figured things out, but please, do not use Wikia. That site is no longer supported and I hear it has been inundated with malware and goldsellers.

The correct url to Paragon Wiki is http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Main_Page (or simply paragonwiki.com)

Nothing acts like Superior Invisiblity besides Superior Invisiblity even Regular Invisibility

  • Stealth IO in [any] Sprint + Stealth = Invis so you can lay down the boombox in a group of enemies. Stub your toe and your stealth, from the pool power only, is supressed and then you're on IO only, I think.
  • Stealth IO in hover + Super Speed or Stealth = Invis. Not likely to stub your toe. You could use fly too. Can't lay down boombox, you're flying. But, if you land, you have 2 minutes of the IO still working.
  • Stealth IO in Recall Friend [or other TP] + SS or Stealth = a freaky way to do it. But if you're a service toon, ghosting and rec friending, etc, you can put one in Rec Friend. It will not make them invisible for two minutes it will make you that way. I did this once, but it was when I found that Sup Invis was already topped out.
  • Steath IO + Super Speed = lay down the boombox in a group of badguys, but you might run into walls. Is stealth suppressed when you stub your toe?

Any kind of damage (except falling damage) - to you or by you - suppresses Stealth IOs, Stealth's stealth component (and half its defense bonus), and SS's stealth component.

Falling will suppress stealth. Either that or I've misinterpreted many horrific events in my toon's careers.

I've never experienced falling damage suppressing my stealth (and super speeding around Grandville with Celerity tends to result in falling damage)...

Since most of my toons have a Stealth IO these days, I can say with certainty that falling damage does not suppress stealth. Which is why I said it.

Well, I'm wrong then. Hmmph.

So...the IO and Super would be good for falling, aka stubbing my toe?

Excellent...except I hate running into walls.

Hi Guys,

so just a stupid question to clarify things in this old brain, do I slot my Celerity Stealth IO into Super Speed or does it have to go into another "Running" power ie Sprint?

The wiki says that SS gives 35 feet of stealth and that the Stealth IO gives 30 feet so if stacked for a total of 65 feet I should be invisible to everything including AV's (54 feet perception), leaving just GM's and drones able to see me?

I also noted that the wiki describes SS as having a "Minor stealth" element when you look at it's power description but in the "Stealth" page it shows it as 35 feet and then above it, is a section called "Minor stealth" which are rated at 30 feet that does not include SS? Seems to be a contradiction there?

Cheers

I don't know about the Wiki, but Super Speed plus any other kind of stealth (Stealth IO, Steamy Mist, Shadowfall, Arctic Fog, Stealth from power pool) = Invisibility for PvE. An easy way to do it for any character is Super Speed + Celerity Stealth IO in Super Speed. You can also use either a Celerity or an Unbounded Leap in any Sprint power combined with Super Speed. Or combine a Stealth IO with Steamy Mist or Shadowfall or Arctic Fog or Stealth. (The only one I haven't used is Stealth from the power pool. It seems a waste to use a power pool for stealth alone when you can get Stealth + fast travel from Super Speed.)

Please link pages. I have no idea what pages you're referring to, so I can't verify whether you are confusing things or the wiki is wrong/confusing.

I'm guessing the OP is referring to Super Speed entry which says it has Stealth (Minor) and comparing that to the Stealth page which has a section called Minor Stealth which has the empowerment buff.

To the OP, in both these cases, the "Minor" stealth is simply a descriptive term given by the people who created those pages. It's not an "in-game" or technical description of the powers.

Thanks so much StarGeek,

lol I read Aggelakis's post and went "Groan, my sad old brain wil never find them links again"

You are spot on with the assumption of my query and I guess it is just another minor (oh no, that word again) descriptive misadventure that never got addressed by the authors.

Anyway, I checked on one of my toons ingame and I am getting the full 65 feet stealth bonuses so all is calm here.

Thanks and sorry for the confusion

While it lasts for 120 seconds, it actually (as a 120 in a toggle) refreshes every 10 seconds.

Does that mean that you're permanently Stealthed, or just while running the power in question? If the latter- what if you, say, need to turn it off so a rescued hostage can follow you? Do you have to wait 2 minutes and then be careful to not use the power til you get to the door?

On Guard the Tard missions, you will have to wait until the stealth wears off after turning off whatever power the IO is slotted in. This feature is often used to ditch General Aarons in a safe place in that one particular RWZ mission after rescuing him so he doesn't pull a Fusionette on you.

Also, the stealth will suppress when clicking a glowie. As far as I know, the only stealths that don't suppress on click are powers like Midnight Visage, the Arachnos Disguise, and the Chameleon Suit.

The empowerment station stealth buff does not suppress.

Ah. I always forget about the Empowerment Station. Nice to know then that if any of my heroes want cheap temporary stealth, they don't have to first go through Agent G's first mission then (run mission, accept second mission to collect disguise, quit flashback) after all.

Actually, the in-game mechanics description of the empowerment stealth is 'minor.'
