Sounds like you're hit with the same thing as myself and several others. There's another thread going on the topic of memory leakage (here: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=221974) so you may want to have a look there and see if you're in the same boat as the rest of us.
As for if you need more memory, you may not. The game still runs just fine on my two older systems that only have 2GB, but they also don't have ATI HD video cards, heh. -
You're not the only one experiencing technical issues with running the game since i17. I'll pass on the obligatory "make sure your drivers are up to date" and leave that question for others.
As for your second question, don't ask me why this was done with the new market interface, but its a bit of a nuisance if you're in any kind of hurry. Still, it is only two more quick clicks so all in all not a terrible thing. If you happen to find yourself on the Market forum, there's a thread there about all the things people don't like about the new interface. Might be that there's something you can change, but without sifting through that thread I'm not sure. -
I've run into what is probably something similar, although only in Mercy. I know about the Seer Marino bug and how to deal with that (just zone and come back). This though is just whenever I want to set a thumbtack in Mercy to ensure I'm heading in the right direction when collecting the explore badges. For whatever reason, the thumbtack will always lead to the Arbiter Diaz although the marker I've placed on my map will show as being in the right place (such as a badge location). What it comes down to is that unless I know where I'm going I have to run with the map open to make sure I'm going in the right direction instead of relying on the Nav window.
EDIT: And no, this doesn't occur when inside a building. Come to think of it, unless its for a mission I never enter any buildings in Mercy. -
I've been finding it annoying for a while now. I bugged it way back during Beta (might've even been CB) but I guess it never rose high enough on the bug list to warrant it being changed. And I think I bugged it once since i17 went Live, but I'm not totally sure.

Quote:Even the -Res proc isn't cheap though. Last time I looked its price range it was 500mil on the lowside and upwards of 900mil or more on the high side (though to be fair that was a week or so ago).
Heh, not all PvP IO's cost a ton, plus I wouldn't waste a respec just to get a 500k FF IO out.
That being said, I've never noticed the +rech proc not working in AE. I used to have it in Repel on one of my Kins (Repel being taken as a "just in case" power) and I have turned it on just for kicks while herding and while it didn't go off often, I would see the results every once in a while. FYI its a 50 IO and I generally run 45-50 AE missions, if I run any at all. I recently respec'd out of Repel and swapped a few other things around on that toon or I would run some more to see if I notice any difference.
EDIT: Just took a peek at the Wiki entry for the +Rech proc and noticed the bit about how it self-suppresses. Maybe the problem you're having stems from this self-suppression? Just a thought... -
Mids PvP setting has been like this for a little while now (at least to me). It doesn't properly do the math on Resist/Def buffs and debuffs while in a PvP zone and other stats are similarly affected. I just gave up using it to design for PvP using the PvP settings. I do have the most recent version by the way.

Quote:I've done the same with most of my toons, limiting them to only accept email from friends and SG members. Only my senior toons (like my two Super Leader toons) don't have their email limited since I still get the odd email from a player looking for a home for a toon or three. I see the odd RMT spam in my inbox, but haven't seen more than a handful in the last 3-4 months.Yeah, I have e-mail trickle in from time to time, though I have limited e-mail on most of my characters. I suppose it helps to report them, but I'd rather keep my inbox open for all the stuff I send back and forth between my characters now.
Oddly, I have received a fair amount of PL and farm requests lately when playing my 50s. I thought that had mostly died out with the new mission settings and all the xp adjusting, but I guess some people know no other way to level. Which is odd... CoH is as casual friendly as it is ossible to be, and it really doesn't take long to level in any range. That XP smoothing a year or more back really helped.
And you're not alone getting PL and farm requests. Rarely have I ever been asked to PL someone or run a farm for complete strangers, yet in the last month or so I've been getting them left and right. Most commonly, they say that they've been "referred" to me by someone else who said that I PL or farm in exchange for Inf. Now, I'm not going to say I never farm or help a friend get a few levels, but not for random people I don't know, and I've never done either for Inf, heh. -
Quote:I had tried to get one going, but prior to Wulf posting his Villain strategy (which he kindly linked me to a little while back). The first try we actually had enough people to probably get it done (43 as I recall), but all of us were guessing as to how best to go about it and we gave up after a while. The second try ran into problems even before its scheduled time and as a result we only got about a dozen people in zone.I know that you host Blue Side Hami Raids, but have you ever considered doing Red Side?
The reason I'm asking is because I've decided on my WP/DM brute to be my red badger, and I found out that there is an exploration badge down where Hami is in the Abyss. I would like to try to do a Red Side Hami Raid, even if that badge was not there, but I don't know how to lead a raid.
Due to PC problems stemming from i17 not playing nice with my GPU I haven't been in game much, but doing a Villain Hami is still something that I and my coalition would love to get done. So unless someone else wants to take up the mantle before I can get my problems sorted out, I'll see about trying another one in the near future. -
Quote:Something that can cause problems for me is dust on my CPU. I've racked my brain before doing every software thing I could do. I've gotten pissed that a game like CoX wouldn't work right when more visually complex games would. It all came down to a little bit of dust buildup on my CPU. MY game would work fine for 10-20 minutes then all of a sudden it would just stutter real bad for about a minute then go back to working for 5 minutes. freeze, unfreeze, etc etc..
Speedfan wasn't even picking it up because the CPU just had a small hotspot but it was enough to cause the graphics to go into extreme stutter mode. Even if your tools are saying your CPU heat is fine check it anyway. I just ran a couple Q-tips over the cooling fins and collected a suprising amount of dust. I have to do that every other week. It instantly fixes the problem I have. You might take a look at it. Hopefully it'll fix it for you.
Points for presenting the idea at least, and who knows, it may help for some people. In my case dust isn't an issue as its a brand new system and hasn't had time to accumulate any dust, and dust doesn't generally cause memory leaks, heh. -
Meh, 327 last time I looked. I don't really care much about my rep, but I will sometimes rep someones post if I feel its warranted, good or bad.

Quote:It is quite a bit slower now than it was when I was running two monitors off my HD5750, the leak that is. Prior to changing up the monitors I was getting between a 300kb and 1MB per second increase in RAM usage (depending on settings and what I was doing). Last night it seemed to have slowed to 50-100kb per second on the same settings, and as mentioned, remaining fairly stable for a time here and there. Its basically doubled my game time, and maybe even a little more if I'd let the game run for longer to see how long to reach the used memory cap for a 32bit system.Well, I was--on specific Radeon HD cards--but it sounds like this is happening to you, if a bit more slowly, with only one monitor?
I wasn't sure though if I could attribute this change to the last patch, dropping to a single monitor (which is an old Compaq FS740 CRT and not LCD as my old duals were), or reinstalling my Catalyst 10.4 drivers from scratch. I'll get the dual monitors set back up again shortly to see if I revert to the old memory usage rate. I'll update here to let you know.
EDIT: Also, something I forgot to mention was that my memory seemed to actually be clearing old data in a more regular fashion than it was prior to yesterday. Whereas old zone data seemed to just have new zone data piled on top before, now watching Task Manager when zoning I actually see it clearing most, if not all, old zone data before loading the new zone. This was a big culprit for me as well, since zoning a couple of times would add a couple hundred MBs or more to my memory usage and never clear it. -
Little update on my end. Since my roommates monitor had given up the ghost on him I gave him one of mine for the time being and swapped out my remaining monitor for a larger, albeit older, single monitor (was running dual monitors, 2x Samsung LCD's). Somewhere between adding the different monitor, reinstalling my Cat 10.4 drivers and the patch from the 19th I seem to be doing somewhat better on the leakage. I'm still showing signs of it, but its much slower than it was prior, and I was able to run the game on "Quality" (with Particle Effects halved) for significantly longer than 45 minutes for the first time in about a week. The games memory usage still climbed, but at a rate of less than 100kb per second, and sometimes staying relatively stable. After about two hours the game was using almost 1.6GBs and I shut down rather than let it crash, but it seems something went right for me.
So are we leaning towards this having something to do with dual monitors on an ATI card now? Or are the two memory problems only loosely related. -
Quote:Wasn't there something amiss with Intel integrated GPUs and i17? (not 100% sure offhand) And is there newer drivers available for that than 2005?

Quote:You believe correctly, but also with the 5750. Figured I'd mention it so its known to others that it also has the same problem.Thanks. Please try upgrading to 10.4 when you have time, but I believe we have reports of people who still have the leak with the 32 bit version of the 10.4 drivers as well when running on XP with the 5770. This is still really useful information if you could confirm it's the case for you, though.

This is what I use.
/macro KMF targetname Immunes Surgeon
KMF means Kill Me First, multi-word names are fine, and I just edit the target depending on what needs to go first on any given mission/arc. The difference is that it just targets the closest body, dead or alive, that you have set. So it will target a corpse if its closer. Doesn't take much to click once or twice more though, heh. -
Quote:Yes, this is yet another list. But instead of posting a text list, I want to post images of the items I want.
First up...2nd floors to bases. One way to provide the option is this:
While I like the ideas, this particular one, if implemented wrong, could wreak all sorts of havoc on established bases. Would have to go about it carefully. -
Quote:I've noticed this as well problem as well, and no I don't have 3D sound enabled. It doesn't seem to occur every time I load into a zone, but I'd say at least 50% of the time, and every time I load a new toon in for the first time.Out of curiosity, do those of you having this problem have 3D sound enabled?
If so, does disabling it help?
EDIT: I'm not using a stand-alone sound card. I'm using an on-board HD-capable sound card. -
Quote:I dropped you a PM with some details Television, as I've been suffering from an apparent memory leak as well.
Also, we've had a couple threads going in the last few months to try to identify leaks but we believe that we have resolved what we were able to identify. If you are experiencing another memory leak, especially if it's this bad, please PM me the details. We may need to start another thread to get some more information. -
Void, the OP is making a small personal base, not a huge "gotta have it all" base. Points for going through the effort of posting all that info, but its overkill in the OP's case, heh.
-
That's the cutest thing I've seen in a while, hehe. My parents told me about that place but they didn't bring back any pictures
-
Overheating doesn't cause memory usage to jump in leaps and bounds. That's an unrelated issue. Also, in case you didn't notice, the OP has apparently solved the problem by switching from 32bit Windows to 64bit Windows and all its attendant 64bit drivers so your post was also not necessary.

Friend of mine linked me to this thread and figured I'd chime in. I'm currently in the middle of a back-and-forth with NCSoft support trying to deal with a similar RAM issue. If I run the game on "Recommended" or higher the game crashes after 45-60 minutes (depending on graphics settings) with a Windows error message due to the game hitting it what Windows considers the cap on a single programs memory usage (1.8-1.9GBs in my case). And like everyone else in this thread I'm using an ATI graphics card (HD5750 1GB GDDR5). I do have the most recent Catalyst 10.4 drivers installed (from May 3rd).
EDIT: Other current system stats are Win XP Home 32bit SP3, 4GB RAM (3070MBs recognized) and an Intel Core i3 530 @ 2.93GHz. -
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that's one of the improvements being considered for the email system and not actually in place yet.
-
Yeah, I've done pretty much the same, updating Windows with anything Windows Update has thrown at me since I built the system, and of course updating drivers for everything else. And I did know about the ATI issues prior to picking up the card, but the Cat 10.4 drivers seem to be working fine.
It turns out that it really is just a horrific memory leak problem, and no problem with the GPU. I can play just fine on the "Perfomance" setting, and the RAM usage hovers around 1-1.1GB, climbing a little higher when teamed to around 1.4GBs. But as soon as I turn up the graphics slider to "Recommended" or higher, the memory leak starts getting worse in leaps and bounds. At "Recommended" it climbs at a rate of about 350kb per second, while on full blown Ultra Mode it climbs at a rate of over 1MB per second. And that's just standing still in Atlas Park under the globe, or standing by the ferry in Sharkhead.
I understand that the memory leak could get worse with the higher settings, but climbing at a rate like that? Its no wonder that the game craps out after less than an hour. And thus far, Support hasn't been too helpful, basically having me jump through all the hoops that I've already tried to no avail.
If anyone knows what the worst culprits are at higher settings when it comes to chewing up system RAM, please let me know. Ambient Occlusion? Particle effects? World Detail? Jimmy Hoffa's Briefcase?
