  1. I hit 17 last night and It's been great so far. I took the plainguy version ( thank you kindly ) as I WAS struggling with endo.

    I see a lot of DFG calls. I guess that is the new AE power level bit? AE was how people were doing it when I was still regularly playing my heroes. I like doing the story arc stuff so looks like I'm solo for a long time. Ah well.

    I can certainly see where endo will be a problem with this with a lot of toggles. My WP/Stone tanker ( my main when I left ) and my Emp/Mind 'trolololer ( my original main ) never has that problem New things to learn! It's what's making the Defender so fun right now.

    I'm going to try and plug those thoughts in so I can see what it is you're helping with I'm a numbers guy, I need to look at them for them to make sense. Will my defensive numbers be close? I don't know why I focus so hard on getting everything up like I do, but I wanted as little to worry about defensively as possible. I know I lack a bit ( ok a lot ) in dps, but I think perhaps I can outlast instead of out blast?

    EDIT: Ok, this is what it looks like. I loose quite a bit o recharge, but everything else is pretty doggone close. From what you tell me it makes my pet an entirely different beasty so that is very nice indeed! I'm guessing my heal is a lot better too now? Here it is with the changes. I changed Combat Jumping for Hover.

  3. The title says it all. I am recently returning and wanted to give a defender a go. I created a rad/rad but it just ... it just wasn't me. I can't explain it, but I really didn't bond to the power sets. I DID like rad as a blaster though, so kept that and dipped my toe into the cheese "

    Dark

    The idea of having two pets seriously appeals to me. I was primarily a controller player Waaaaay back when, and this is certainly going to play like a Defentroller ( I hope! )

    A few things; I KNOW I can get more out of this with the PvP sets and what not but I'm not a PvP player in CoH, I know realistically it's just not going to happen. Also, being casual I didn't put any purple sets or Hamis in.

    Having said that, did I miss anything glaringly obvious?

  4. Well after a bit of time in the character creator I think I'm changing from Mace to Dark as my Defender took a different direction during creation hahah

    Retooled and armed with a bit of forum scrounging I hope I've improved him a bit. I'm a complete rookie at this stuff so I'm betting it's a tad unconventional. I guess that's what respecs are for I may not like the powers, but it's going to be fun trying him out.

    Long story short I'm a returning player who was a beta player. I put in a few years then moved on like a great many people I suppose. I have popped in from time to time to scratch that itch ( ok read into that "go on an Alt rampage to end them all... until the next time..." * sigh * )

    In all my playing I've never really dipped my foot in the defender pool. I want to fix that. I also am not too interested in FOTM or Uber leet builds, but having said that I'd like to be in the ball park This is a thematic build so Rad/Rad it must be. I'm pretty set on Mace as well.

    So here is my woeful go at a Defender.

  7. I've been away for about a year and felt the need to scratch my hero itch again. The thing is, I want to play something well out of my comfort zone AND something different. I don't recall seeing a defender running around ( probably a good reason for it, but I digress ) with this AT combo. To my mind it will play like a controller with a bit more punch. I would think it could be viable in a group but I'll let the resident experts work their magic on this thought experiment. My focus was getting ranged defense to a solid level and then getting my lock down skills to a level of consistency. I've been out of it a while so lemme know please

  8. I was weened on waiting, having played EQ1 from the first day live. Compared to that * staring at a book anyone? * or waiting as a warrior for your HP bar to climb . . 1 . . . hp ... at ... a ... time. CoH is a breeze.

    If you're a button masher with sprint on, you're doing it wrong. If you're using the biggest hitting damage power ( and thus highest end use usually ) to finish off a mob, you're doing it wrong.
    End management keeps the game in balance. It's part of the game and a facet you need to figure out. If you're a long time player and still haven't got it under wraps, I'd say it's a you problem, not a game mechanic problem. Just my opinion.

  10. ST Blasters with a good Tanker = easy mode. Target the Tanker and burn down the bad guys quickly and safely. All other scenarios require restraint, planning and a good team. You are just as effective/useful, it just requires more of you.
  11. I have Hurdle/Health/Stamina on my Fire/MM and don't regret it one bit. Like was previously posted I hate not having hurdle too. You have the option of trying both with your switch build and seeing what feels best/acceptable to you.

    Need new tank

    No real surprise that I am a big fan of WP / Stone Melee. It solos well, comes out of the box at lvl 1 hard and doesn't really let up. WP is fantastic for tankers as it makes you better with more bad guys around you ( a tankers job! ) Faults damage mitigation is team friendly and can make leveling fast as it combined with WPs regeneration/recovery = no down time. Reaching the defensive caps is a breeze. The knock against WP/Stone has been it's lack of taunt. I have come to this conclusion about that. I taunt just fine. If said bad guys are disoriented or on their butts it is = to or better than a taunt aura. In groups you only need to keep them occupied long enough for the DPSers to wipe em. Taunt and two faults gets nearly every group I've ever faced while teamed ( Malta and Carnies included .. speaking of Carnies .. Stone WP laughs at them .. seriously ) handled.

    I've recently ( 2xp weekend ) created a Shield/Stone Melee that I've completely enjoyed so far.

  13. My Hulkish build is very very simular to Heraclea's. I borrowed a bit ( ok I flat out used :P ) some slotting ideas from Herc's post on her build from a few years ago. I integrated some of my own ideas from my Tanker experiences. The main difference of the SS/Inv tanker is the endo usage. It took a bit of time to get the timing and what-not down from my Willpower/Stone Melee tanker which NEVER has endo issues. Anyway, this is just a new perspective for you ( The O.P. ) to peek at. Ultimately there is no one "right" build. Your playstyle will dictate what "works" for you. Just have fun with it !

  15. The first point is on the head mate. I have them to stack on bosses, or rather the stunning shot used to with my older version. The recharge on this version doesn't allow me to keep them perma stunned so the cryo cycles between shots.

    The Air Superiority is really a way to get a ST on it's butt. It cycles fast, hits reasonably well and has that oh so wonderful knockup. Against Lts and lower it's 90% ( it seems like ! ) likely to flip em. That it's a mule too is icing. Power thrust is "ok" but doesn't hit as well as AS in my experience.

    As for Bonesmasher... well it's 3x as slow activating and more than 2x the endo cost, doesn't have a -Fly and really the only thing I like is the energy damage it adds. I'm not a blapper so not as interested in spike damage from a melee attack. Different play styles and all that
  16. Just to give a another point of view for you to look at I'll submit mine. It's a little pricey but not over the top by any means. I focused on ranged defense ( It's soft capped ). As the poster above me, I like to hover blast, however I like the combat jumping + hurdle combo early on as a mini travel power. I like having combat maneuverability with this build as it makes getting into position much much easier. I also took stunning shot and cryo freeze ray as a boss stopper. Total Focus and Air Superiority are a nice get out of my face melee option should you find the need. They afford you the time to get back in the air and into hoverblast range. Don't forget that you can have Hover and Combat jumping on at the same time for added defense.

  19. Yeah, you take a DPS class then state that one of the things that boost that DPS is a crutch ?? WTH? Your failing in it's use does not make it a crutch. Personally I have 2 "build up" type powers in my scrapper and blaster builds. I've never had a problem using them....

    Size - It has been suggested that they grew very fast to get to the sizes that they achieved. The problem with that is we really don't know what their life span was. If you look at reptiles in nature now it is easily surmised that they lived a very long time and had ample opportunity in 100+ years like turtles ( http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_th...an_of_a_turtle ) or even birds ( eagles and swans can live as long as 150 years and they're dinos too ! ) to reach gargantuan size.

    I would also suggest that homosapiens are not modern mammals yet we can reasonably state that they were omnivores, warm blooded and social by nature. Ancient or no, the rules still apply to physiology.
