Drain Psyche (/Mind) or Health & Stamina??
Hi all,
this is my first Blaster (normally play on Red side) and wondering if its better to have Drain Psyche for my regen/recovery or get Health and Stamina instead... I know that DP is a Pbaoe power so I need to hit enemies with it whilein melee range but at the same time it is 1 power vs 2 and is a 75% regen/recovery Boost vs 40%/25%. Im sure have all 3 would be awesome but that is for later in the game. Cheers |
Unless you've got bundles to spend on IO buffs early in your levels, DP won't come back up enough to replace stamina. However, DP does more than simply buff you. It also debuffs you're enemies, taking away some of their regeneration... which is really helpful.
My Sonic/Mental Blaster took Drain Psyche and no Fitness.
I had end problems up until level 27, when I could finally slot Thunderstrike sets to get Recovery Set bonuses. Once I'd got four of them, and 3 Positrons Blast pairs for a total of +15.5% Recovery, I was doing OK with just Drain Psyche.
So I'd say you can skip Stamina if you're willing to invest in IOs and put up with some unnecessary discomfort in your 20s. That's two medium sized ifs.
You can skip stamina for awhile if you slot recharges and some accuracy into DP, it's up every fight or every other fight easily, maybe that's because I have hasten? (SO's only in hasten)
If you slot just one end mod into DP you only need to hit 1-2 enemies to fully recover while attacking.
That said, when you get your epic toggle shields, or if you get into fight you simply can't (hamidon goos) or don't want to get into melee range for, then you're out of luck.
Take DP absolutely (don't forget DP can be instant healing level regeneration)
Take stamina if it doesn't hurt.
Honestly I can't live without hurdle anymore, in combat movement speed is too slow without it, and health isnt half bad either-AND-comes with sleep resistance. I actually miss hurdle more than I'd miss stamina in my /mental builds.
This is probably the best way to look at DP. Stamina gets you everything you needed out of stamina on every other build. DP allows you to be totally careless with your end usage (run tough/weave/shield/maneuvers/combat jumping/super speed/sprint and attack, don't slot for end, and never have problems.)

As another poster said 1 end mod means you only have to hit 2 mobs. The other thing that's fun is that you can slot Miracle + and Numina +/+ here and boost your recovery to decent levels without ANY targets in range at all.
Most IO sets have decent end reduction built into them. If you are building with sets and you don't mind paying a bit of attention to endurance management you can get along with DP alone with few problems.

I have a diff kind of question about DP.
I have a new AR/MM and i'll trying to figure out if i need DP and if i do, when do i hit it? Fighting even cons, after i hit RoA and PSW noone is alive except a boss. I am planning on using it as a farm build and not getting into melee to fight with a blaster. lol.
I have Hurdle/Health/Stamina on my Fire/MM and don't regret it one bit. Like was previously posted I hate not having hurdle too. You have the option of trying both with your switch build and seeing what feels best/acceptable to you.

Im using Energy/ as my Primary and will be teaming for most of this toon (hopefully).
I hate having no END during combat, especially when the rest of the team is still kicking so Ill prob end up getting Stam at level 20 and DP at 22/24.
Also with some Melle team mates they should be able to hold agro while I run in and DP the mobs.
I normally dont start getting serious INF until my 30's and I can always respec or dual-build if I find having DP and STAM is too much (hahahaha).
