    My Ice/Fire tank

    A lot of what Finduilas says is good advice. You need to be looking for S/L and E/N defense bonus as well as +hp. Here is my "everyman" build that most folks should be able to build and play 99% of the game with. It is unusual in that it doesn't use Hibernate (I found I never used it), and does not have taunt with the two aggro auras in ice/. It is soft-capped and then some to S/L and E/N defense and gets you a little +hp and +rech for the "Everyman" price. Hope it helps a little.

  2. This guys normally just farms now and plays on the occasional team. I don't have all the pieces of the Erad quads, the LOTG +rech or the PF proc right now, so it is a bit of an aspirational build. I gave up OG because I found I wasn't using it much in teams and the wandering was a little bit of pain the farming scenarios.

    It gives up recharge in favor of nice S/L and E/N defense. The project started as a way to shore up the NE defense hole and I just worked from there. I think it has a bit more END, HP and regen as well, at the cost of a little recovery rate and recharge. I don't notice the recharge that much as by the time I hit BU, jump in fire off Burst, jump straight up and at the apex hit throw spines. Most minions are dead after that, so it's clean up with ripper and lunge. Anyway, have fun.

    Well, I guess I am not alone then. I think the math points to the higher +hp in the prolonged fight situation, but I think this way. Chances are if I am looking at my HF waiting for it to recharge, then it being up a second faster may save me but the extra +30 hp probably won't. I don't think the difference will be discernable really, but this is what my gut says.

    And, yes, I like the symmetry of the values when looking at it in MIDS too Sarrate.

  4. I was having a hard time getting to the soft cap on S/L with Power Sink in there. Good question, though and I continue to play with that. I had a build that gave up Fireball to make it happen, but I thought I REALLY needed that other damaging AoE in there. Drained mobs don't hurt much if they can't attack, so it can be a good opener like I use on my Elec/Elec brute. Power Sink, followed by Dark Oblit, LR and Thunderstrike all the while Field is sapping them down. It works pretty well, but I just obsessive about trying to get the soft cap on a tank.

    Thanks for the reply. I'll keep looking at it. There probably is a way to do it with PSink in there but my creative hat is flickering as to how.

    I am going for a mid-budget (no purples or PVP IOs) tanker for my group of 4-6 regular teammates. 99% of the time will be PvE and rarely solo.

    I am concerned about recovery and the playability prior to the +END accolades. Can you help me squeeze some more recovery out of this without breaking the bank. I have 2 sets of Kin Combats and the Numina unique scrounged from respecs I did last week on retired toons. Will just need 3-4 pieces of the Oblits I think. Anyway, thoughts?

  6. Here is a build I worked up for WP/SS build and it works very well.

    It uses Leaping and Energy mastery to get to 42% S/L and 41% E/N. It seems to work for her. Got the Reg Tissue on a drop and merits for the numina unique.

    I would have some serious reservations about running this, particularly without the END accolades with such low recovery. If you had the cash I would invest in a Numina unique for health on this build to help with that. Overall, it has about 40% S/L defense and a 5-slotted fireball.

    Hey Player, I would be a little worried about my ability to recover end with your build. I look to have about 2.5 end/s margin on a scrapper or more if possible.

    I had this build laying around for a farmer on my Spines/DA that I have been wanting to try. The only really expensive pieces are the Numina unique and the 2 sets of Kin Combats and no purples or PVP IOs used at all. It is expensive on the blue to run but recovers quite a bit.

    Anyway, just another build to look at which I'm sure could be optimized here and there also. I was focused on trying to get S/L def up there as well as E/N def. It ends up with 4.06 end/s with 31% S/L def and 36% E/N Def.

  10. Lots of good avice between CMA and Wind here, so I don't need to add much commentary. I had this build lying around and thought it might help the OP. It's pretty cheap with the lone exception of the Oblits and the Numina unique. I'm sure it can be optimized a bit but may give you something else to look at for a pretty cheap alternative.

  11. FWIW, on my Elec/Elec brute I built for Melee primarily and got it up to about 29-30% and had about 25% S/L as well. Made a world of difference. I rolled him back in I7 and boy did the buff to Energize and the build for defense make a HUGE difference. I was using Powersurge all the time in those days, and the new build allowed me to respec out of it (I really don't like Tier-9s with big crashes).

    On a tank, you probably cannot go wrong building for either Melee or S/L. Depends on what your plan is for him, if you big team tank a lot versus solo or small team, AV/Hero hunting, farming and so on.

  12. Here is my current build on my Ice/Fire tank. I'm a bit of a cheapskate without a big bankroll, and I find this build pretty effective. I'm some of the other folks can help optimize it, but I find it can tank everything I have tried with him. Have not done any Master TF runs or anything, but it is over the softcap for S/L/E/NE without the help of EA. EA is up every 28s or so. It sacrifices hibernate for a full Pyre mastery, but feel free to play around with variations.

  16. Thanks very much for the helpful feedback. I have 2 BotZ sets laying around from merit rolls, but I'm a little concerned about cost of the Miracles and LotGs.

    I like the way this is headed. I hadn't thought of adding Maneuvers as I always viewed it as an expensive toggle without enough to benefit to justify the end cost. It's not much more expensive (end wise) than weave really and doesn't require the two prior power picks.

    My latest scrapper project is a Claws/SR. After three and half years I am finally getting around to putting together this combo and I have never played either past an Atlas sewer run.

    I don't have a large bankroll even though after all this time I really should - just don't have a lot of time to farm.

    Anyway, I am looking to do well in PvE play and always look forward to TFs, trials and the AVs in the endgame. I am bouncing between builds that use fighting pool versus medicine pool with Hasten to get a nice chain going on the cheap. Anyway, I have this Medicine pool build that is just shy on AoE def but it is light on +HP and +Regen.

    Any advice is welcome, even if it's Fighting pool oriented.

  18. Here is my current build, done on the cheap as I don't have a big bankroll either. Softcapped to melee and a few %s off for Ranged and AoE. The only expensive set of the ToD - the rest are reasonable and seem to be available. I am sure others will have some great builds too but this one lets me farm +1/6 without a lot of concern or threat.

    Edit: Forgot to mention that the build is for my scrapper too, so your defensive values should be more than adequate on a tank.

    Just follow CMA's guide, and prepare to feel what INV is supposed to feel like. You won't regret it.

  20. I would say INV or Shield. INV is really a strong all around set and you should have the cash to IO him out (wink). Following CMA's guide on the S/L soft cap makes INV a true beast. I have my brand new Shield/Elec going for a couple days now and I am looking forward to seeing it mature.

    I respecced into Earth Mastery from Pyre after some testing on the Test Server. I get another 5% of S/L defense from Stone Prison and 2 Slows in Quick Sand slows them to a crawl in the Burn patch. It's especially good when 2 Quick Sands stacked for that 10s or so of overlap. In my timed runs, I do better on +1/8 with this than I did with Pyre and it frees up a power pick. I think it's comparable in killing and speed and more survivable in my testing between the extra defense and mitigation gained from them trying to run from Burn.

  23. Prior to finally getting a PB to 50 in I13-I14, I have leveled three or four PBs into their mid-20s before deleting them. I will list issues I have observed from the previous failed attempts and the more recent march to 50 some of which Bill had touched on earlier.

    1) The time to form shift is WAY to long - it should be 1 second or less and you should be able to switch directly to and from any of the three forms. The Tray swapping bug on powers when shifting between forms is horrible. Passives not working in forms is annoying. The design of having Dwarf form be a breakfree fails when a mez lands during animation which happens a lot because of its length
    2) Photon Seekers as a "pet" - either make them a homing pbaoe that can be buffed or give us a real pet - I have proposed a 'Light Servant' pet concept in the past that I wish folks would look at - it could help with the damage of Human only too
    3) Attack chains are full of huge gaps and generally drain you of END too quickly I think. Prior to I13 I could sense that I was a low damage AT in human form.
    4) The need to shape shift to Nova to do any kind of real damage leaves you massively exposed from a mitigation standpoint. Conversely, I can survive longer in Dwarf but I can't kill anything (exaggerating, it takes 3 minutes to kill 2 yellow minions and its close fight).

  24. Yeah, I have a DA/SS tank that is really quite sturdy. I run a Numina's unique which helps the end quite a bit. The Rage crash is quite manageable really. I run nine toggles with the /Fire ancillary and find it to be verysturdy. Built for defense and have 30% to all damage types and 36%-37% to energy. It's great to have Footstomp (up every 10s) followed by Fireball and hammer away on the bad guys while the team mows them down. Get your +END accolades and you should be fine, probably do not need the Numina's but it helps keep my blue bar above half perpetually. Carnies are your bread and butter - just enjoy all the arcane salvage and make some dough.
