Budget-minded Claws/SR - advice desired

Doomguide

Posted

Hi all,

My latest scrapper project is a Claws/SR. After three and half years I am finally getting around to putting together this combo and I have never played either past an Atlas sewer run.

I don't have a large bankroll even though after all this time I really should - just don't have a lot of time to farm.

Anyway, I am looking to do well in PvE play and always look forward to TFs, trials and the AVs in the endgame. I am bouncing between builds that use fighting pool versus medicine pool with Hasten to get a nice chain going on the cheap. Anyway, I have this Medicine pool build that is just shy on AoE def but it is light on +HP and +Regen.

Any advice is welcome, even if it's Fighting pool oriented.

Cheers

I'm not qualified to comment on the Claws part but IMO, the main advantage of SR over the other softcap-capable powersets is that you can accomplish it without the fighting pool relatively easily. (I skipped it on my SR, too.) So don't feel pressured to take it.

It's a good build. Personally I would forgo slotting Health entirely, since you already have a self-heal. You can also remove a slot from Practiced Brawler since it's already permanent without Hasten. With the 3 free slots I'd 6-slot performance shifter in Stamina; this tops up your AoE defense and also gets you the +End proc, which is a nice little buff. I would also slot Focus with Positron's Blasts (which is a comparatively cheap set for being rare) for the recharge bonus.

Well one set of Serendipity over Red Fortune would get you closer to the AoE softcap with the loss of some recharge.

You would really want to slot Accuracy into Follow Up, Focused Accuracy or Tactics can take the set for 2.5 Def to all. If you went that route I'd suggest dropping Hasten for FA and try to find some slots here and there to 6 slot it.

If you did that you could use CI's in FU to get eh recharge back.

All of that is assuming you want to keep Aid Self and only after a quick glance.

Building on the comments of the previous posters:

Agree you need to slot Follow-Up as an attack, if it doesn't hit it doesn't boost all your other attacks. Nevermind the negative impact it has on things like dps and dpa of Follow-Up itself. Try 5 Crushing Impact (I'd drop the Acc/Dam and in the 6th slot put any End/Rech from one of the To Hit sets).

Next to my mind you have 3 "extra" slots floating around to try and improve things without major changes to the basic build.

1) Go with 4 LotG (or even 4 Red Fortune) in Evasion. The difference in +defense is tiny.
Vastly prefer the LotG here personally. 4 of them boosts your global Accuracy, which I think is one of the weaker spots in the build. And if you pickup via tickets, merits or whatnot a LotG +7.5% it's a much smaller change to drop in the +7.5% global recharge later.

2) In Mids while net end recovery isn't fantastic it very solid even with Physical Perfection out of the picture especially considering you've no special IO's devoted to +recovery.
Hence single slot Conserve Power, its recharge is too long to use as anything other than emergencies anyway.

3) Practiced Brawler with the current global recharge (sans Hasten up) recharges in well under 120 seconds needed to be perma with a single recharge IO placed.

Hasten would also be the highest on the list to get swapped for another choice. I added Maneuvers into the build below for Hasten. High global recharge is nice, but getting significant quantities of it is somewhat contradictory to the "on a budget" goal.

Physical Perfection dropping from 4 to 2 slots, would be the next place I'd go looking for slots.

Here's a slight tweak to Doomguide's build. Basically I just wanted to remove the expensive BotZ -KB IO and get a -Res proc in Slash. The P Shifter proc is by far the best value IO to put into Physical Perfection, so I threw a second one into the build - paid for by removing the other two BotZ IOs. I used the cheap Smashing Haymaker set in Slash (and 3 slotting Dodge) to top off the Melee Def.

Thanks very much for the helpful feedback. I have 2 BotZ sets laying around from merit rolls, but I'm a little concerned about cost of the Miracles and LotGs.

I like the way this is headed. I hadn't thought of adding Maneuvers as I always viewed it as an expensive toggle without enough to benefit to justify the end cost. It's not much more expensive (end wise) than weave really and doesn't require the two prior power picks.

I went ahead and incorporated this advice and am looking at this:

Something I tinkered with on my DB (Blinding Feint is very similar to Follow Up) is using a Lysosome and 5 crushing impacts (skipping the Acc/Dam/End). 33% accuracy and 20% to hit buff for under 10 mil works for me.
