    Recipe questions

    To throw another wrench into all of this: Beware the temptation to pursue such redonculous enhancement from set bonuses, because you may end up sacrificing primary enhancement to your powers in such pursuit.
  2. Not so. There is no shared loot. Every "kill" grants an.
    independent drop check for each member of the team

    Tanks vs Brutes

    I was catching up on this discussion, and I hope you all don't mind me asking...but how does a ST ranged DOT power significantly increase the DPS of a melee character?
  4. Just out of curiosity, why would you(or anyone else who may be watching) not like toggles. They are some of the strongest defenses out there, and its not like they used to be when mezzes detoggled and you had to reset them every time you got stunned. Heck, they even stay on between play sessions now.
  5. Risking flamage here.
    My question is:
    With so much of the player base seeming to be
    racing to the endgame with their new shinies,
    why does Lore matter?

    or, more helpfully/less snarky, how can we make
    Lore matter more?

    BrandX's Art!

    Sorry to come out of the shadows with this like a creepy lurker and all, but I feel I must point something out with this one...

    ...is it just me or does she seem to have two left arms?

    Other than that, this piece is awesome, as is everything else I've seen here.

    Please keep posting!

    ETA: Ok, maybe that's her right arm posted on the floor, but then her thumb is on the wrong side.
  7. I'm planning on putting it in LRM rocket to keep the Lts and bosses together for a Psionic Tornado followup.
  8. Just to be clear(for others that are lurking), you can only go undercover for the faction that you picked at character creation(Through the tutorial or as you enter Nova).

    IIRC, you have to do a moral choice mission and change your current faction, to actually be undercover. If you are doing a Warden arc as a Loyalist(you can't do Crusader, the contacts are behind 'secret/coded' doors), you aren't really undercover, so calling Marchand is moot.
  9. There is only one way to eat an elephant. One bite at a time.
  10. I suppose that is one way to get around the "female pets" issue for Masterminds. Just create your own, complete with new powersets.
  11. My three mains:

    Deepstryker:
    "A little known history" about Crey, before they went all cloney with recovered hero DNA, they tried to create super soldiers with cybernetics. (Before this humble storyteller learned Crey canon...) To create said super soldiers Crey 'bought' political and war prisoners to experiment on. During the First Rikti War, Crey 'field tested' these super soldiers, programmed to fight the Rikti.
    Favored enemies: Rikti, when the old programming kicks in. Anything Crey, but especially Paragon Protectors(the rivals)

    KageNoKami:
    A scout/scientist/archeologist/anthropologist from an alternate ethereal 'shadow' dimension. He has 'found' an 'ancient enemy' that retreated/disappeared/ran away from his home dimension. Here, they long ago created a vast underground civilization, forgot where they came from, and split into two warring factions.
    Favored enemies:Circle of Thorns and Mu

    Black Librarian:
    An homage to Warhammer 40,000. Black Librarian aka BL aka 'Bill' is a Space Marine psionicist who was rescued and trained by Eldar Harlequins, who are the keepers and guardians of the hidden Eldar Black Library. He was transported to this earth/time by a powerful Warp Storm.
    Favored enemies: "False Harlequins"(i.e. Carnies) and anything that has 'alliances' with 'Daemons' (i.e. Thorns, Devouring Earth, Rularuu, and the new Mot Ravagers)

    plus one extra

    Llama Sue:
    A Shazam-esque (Captain Marvel?) avatar of an ancient Mesopotamian guardian spirit
    Favored enemies: Anything trying to hurt her friends
  12. I see this thread title pop up and I think:

    Praetorian Chaser = Enriche
  13. I didn't read the whole thread, so please forgive me.

    As I read the last few posts here, I see the comparison of Tanks(as an MMO role) to Fighters(as a RPG role).

    Unfortunately, this is an unfair comparison as MMO's and RPG's are entirely different types of games.

    An MMO is restricted to the fact that it is a combat simulator. Everything is defined by its role in combat situations. There are no computer/server/dev generated opportunities for non-combat activity. There is plenty of player based role play, but it is all based in mutual consent in the storytelling. Therefore, all AT's have to fit into the Survivability vs Melee Damage vs Ranged Damage vs Support vs Crowd Control scales in order to maintain balance.

    In the aforementioned RPG's you could of course have a combat master with High damage, High defense (fighters and barbarians). You still had Low defense Nukers(magic users) and Support/Healer(cleric) who traded off some defense/damage for added utility. But the other "melee" class(theif/rogue) had Low Defense/Low Damage. That was because in the what he gave up in the combat arena, he made up for in other skills that were necessary for the STORY-based elements of the game, which are difficult to work into the MMO.

    Need the map in the captain's pocket? Send in the thief to sneak up and pick his pocket. As the story unfolded, the fighter/mage/cleric didn't mind being left at the "door"/inn because the Players were being entertained by the storytelling skills of the GM and the thief player. (Try that here, and everyone gets bored standing around with no interaction to the events, while the stalker runs to the end of the map for the clickie.)

    Heck, I've had entire evenings entertainment while the courtesan with NO combat skills what so ever, but charm/charisma/interrogation/fast-talking skills out the wazoo solved the "case" as the fighter was still strapping on his plate mail.

    Anyway, the point being that in a COMBAT ONLY game like CoH, balance HAS to be achieved between the classes/AT's by trading off COMBAT attributes.

    ETA: I agree that in the other mentioned combat simulations, mobility is a combat attribute which can be used to adjust balance, just not here, because we don't use mobility in combat.
  14. I am frankly surprised that Actinic Glare was available across all the servers for my Elec^3 blaster/brute/tanker/dominator/scrapper/stalker

  16. Just off of the top of my head these are the things that come to mind with the 'End of the Praetorian War'

    1. Refugees of all the Praetorian groups in Primal Earth looking for a new start/niche with attending story arcs.

    2. Praetorian story arcs in the post-apocalyptic/survivalist vein to rebuild.

    3. Raid/Trial to take on Praetorian Hamidon.

    I like the Praetorian stuff, but then again, I didn't overplay it and get burnt out. I still have toons that are over there. I have toons that started there that are still loyal to Cole and others that would want to go back to rebuild after he's gone.
  17. This a concept that I guess that I am just too dense to understand as I read the forums:

    I have 20ish(?) perfectly good superpowers.

    I have 40ish(?) enhancement slots to add to those powers.

    an ATO proc (which takes up one of those enhancement slots so I have to chose to reduce the enhancement of said power in some way) adds a (presumably) useful benefit of some sort

    How is it that I am "gimped" if I chose to use that proc?
  18. I'd like to throw Mirror Spirit onto the list
  19. I think Father X-mas meant that as a compliment, unless you are insulted by being called more mature then the posters on other forums....
  20. Not a high end build. Just a generalist. Solos a lot for content/story/badge and what not, but does team on occasion as well.

    L 50 Stalker Spines/SR/Soul originally built before inherent fitness and when you had to do Ghost Widow's arc to get access to Soul Mastery and only Soul Mastery.

    Being Super Reflexes, I pretty much soft cap all positions out of the box. Health is rarely an issue, unless it is an issue that an extra few HP/s is not going to help.

    On really, really, really long fights he can start sucking wind. But I can usually fix that with Elude(If we are almost done) or Placate/Bug out/Rest. I can usually rest faster than most enemies regenerate.

    So, not really trying to fix any hole in particular, just looking for some general opinions.

    ETA:Not a cost issue either, I already have both in my pocket. It's just a matter of which do I slot.
  21. I can't search very well, so I am hoping someone may take mercy on me and give me a lead as to where I can find an answer to this issue:

    Ever other time that I start the NC Launcher, to start any NC game(I also dabble in Beta and Lineage II) it frames out a section of my desktop and then stops.

    I have to ctrl-alt-del to open the task manager, shut down the launcher and restart.

    When I restart, the launcher pops up the 'checking for updates', does its thing and starts just fine.

    Any Ideas?
  22. General question here.

    I have both the Miracle and Numina's uniques available to me.
    I am generally happy with my build, neither health nor endurance management issues per se.
    I have one slot in Health, not going to put another in it.

    Asking for your opinion folks, which is better? Numina or Miracle?
  23. Aren't most Interfaces supposed to be more along the lines of 'every little bit helps'? My measly little Diamagnetic doesn't do much on its own, but add 15-23 league mates, each with an Interface of some sort and the effects stack up, at least a little.

    ETA: I mean, we all spend millions of inf to hunt down that last little bit of Def to hit the Magickal Soft Cap don't we, sacrificing a 40% enhancement to damage for that End/Rng/Rech that we needed to finish that six part IO set, Right?
  24. I have been lurking the forums/boards for a few years and rarely felt an urge to make a post. After this, I will likely go back to quietly listening in, but at the risk of inflaming the general public...

    Come on, folks. I am seeing this complaint all over the boards:

    My villain can't be villainy enough;
    My loyalist can't be Loyal enough;
    or even be loyal after level 20;
    My X can't be X'y enough;
    My source of power is XYZ, not some ABC;
    My character's backstory is This, and s/he would/n't do That;

    As much as I enjoy CoX(Loyally paying my $30 per month for my wife and I to play for over 5 years), it is NOT an RPG. It is an MMO.

    While it has some of the most player creative elements in any game of its type, and its Devs and community encourage player creativity, it is NOT a Roleplaying Game.

    CoX is a teen rated console MMO. As such, it is limited to how far it can allow players to take their evilness.

    Most importantly, as a console game, the stories and interactions are canned and preset. There is no true roleplaying interaction with the antagonists and allies.

    In fact, as an MMO, it is actually more akin to a tactical wargame than an RPG. Granted it has a lot of bells and whistles, but it is a tactical simulation none the less.

    If you want a true roleplaying experience and full creative control of your character's stories(Origin, source of power, actions and consequences), I suggest that you pull out the paper and pencils, dice, beverage of choice, snack foods, and folding tables and chairs. Call your friends over on Saturday, Sunday, M-F night/morning/afternoon and sit down to an old fashioned face to face session of roleplaying/storytelling.

    In the mean time, since MMO's have become the mass market instant gratification medium of choice/replacement, I am going to suspend my disbelief and play along with the canned, spoon fed stories that my favorite MMO provides.

    Sorry folks, off my soapbox now.
    Please carry on and enjoy your day.
  25. I'm an F, but I comfortably play SO's and common IO's.
