The more responsibility you put on my shoulders, the more room there is to fail and the more of those touted options end up being big mistakes.
^^^ this
I created a freeform character, and thought it was pretty cool until I saw another player swoop down on 5 enemies and kill them in 1 min while I took 5 mins to do the same thing. At that point, I went to the forums and found a 'how to survive guide' which had cookie cutter recipes. Basically, players before me figured out which powers work best against mobs. I looked at the power suggestions and guess what? Out of the 20 or so possible power pools to pick from, only 7-8 were actually effective given the game's combat system. I would rather have the devs do their work for a power set tested in beta rather than me trying to figure out how not to shoot myself in the foot. -
There is a game that didnt restrict players to a power framework. One can build a dual blade healer that can summon mecha drones. Guess what the biggest complaint was?
'my powers selections arent as awesome as what's his face.'
'X & y & z powers should kill the mob as fast as t & g & I powers. '
Players figured out which power selections worked best and you end up with a player base that were carbon copies of each other. devs would try to 'patch' so after every update, the build of the month changed.
So even if the devs implemented this customization you speak of, you would still be back here complaining about balance. -
It's always been like that. The Looking for Group tab is being used for random chat as well. Now that Help is a default under the Global chat tab, I always take it out of the Global tab and move it to another tab. That way, I still have a log of the Help/LFG text, but it doesn't clutter my chat.

The frys near me has em. My guess is that there is a limited print run and a small batch of cards make it to each store. Also, assuming it costs $3-5 to make and distro, & the store gets a cut, ncsoft is prolly making $7-8 on 30 day and $17 on the 60 card.
Idea: use a prepaid credit card and use it in your master accnt. Some have a monthly fee (walmart) while others have a 1 time upfront cost (walgreens). -
I also suggest you use mids. It is a compact way of communicating what you need to build instead of writing up a wall of text like Young did. (good advice there!)
Also since it does the math for you, it will tell you if you are over the rule of 5, & give you a total of your bonuses. You can make different builds and compare them.
If you still dont want to use mids, let the forum know so builds can be posted in a long text format.
Young mentioned a lot of good sets. If you have tactics, I suggest rectified reticle for s/l. For end perf sh+ in stamina, miracle+, numi+ in heal. -
In terms of server resources, the pet is treated like a player, so it will get sequestered. If it is held, you can drop a breakfree over the pet or hit it with enforce morale or similar un-mez power. I've noticed that I can sometimes free a player from a sequester by 1-3 hits of enforce morale or clarity. If you have recall friend, you can move the pet to a safer place until the hold wears off.

Easier. Sis is still in mission 3. No replacement for Malaise. In last mission, Posi does the speech in Atlas. Penny replaces Sis and is actually not a pushover. Still, with the right team, it is possible to defeat all the Phalanx in under 1 minute.

Welcome back!
More heroes than vills. I'm west coast, so by the time I log, I see less than 50 vills logged. When I run a DA team, it's mostly heroes and maybe 1 or 2 vills other than me.
Quote:2a) What are the most active Groups (Hero and Villain)?... start getting back into the swing of Task/Strike Forces and such.
Mirrormen held a Villain CC last month I think. -
Welcome back! I hope you made it to last Sunday's MS Raid. And I'm sure you'll be zapping mobs left & right in no time.
-
Obviously, a stapler power set. Melee impale and hold. Powerful t9 that has a bad sideeffect of jamming when you need it most.
-
This has been my experience. I get more and better drops solo x8 than in a team fighting romans or nemesis. Get a mission from the general at cim and do +0 or +1 x8 solo.

Here's what I did when I was on trial acct before f2p.
- log out at a police station / arach base for patrol xp. This gives some xp bonus next time you play
- log out at store / ferry for enh bonus
- log out at vault for money bonus
After I subscribed, I just used my enh drops until I reached 50. I had about 5 Mil inf, and I thought that was plenty to get by.
Basically, it's not the 'gear' that makes you strong, it's what's between the keyboard and the chair. Enh make it easier, but knowing the strategies for you powers take you farther in the long run.
I agree with the other posters in that you should play the game instead of rushing your way to 50. -
I did an experiment of selling 9999 tix worth of lv 30 ios. I made about more 20%, but it took at least twice as long to sell. Id rather do more sales per week than try to squeeze 20% more.

Quote:This. As has been mentioned, Carnies can be problematic.
Depending on the mission settings, you could have been -5 levels to them. (Which would indeed be rough on most, if not all tanks.) On a level 50 team you'd be SSK'd to level 49 on both of the tanks you mentioned. If the mission was set to +4/8 that would have made the Carnies lvl 54s. Without a ton of outside buffs I can see you having issues surviving, even with fairly well put together builds.
No tough and weave, so Im guessing he has an SO build, and doesnt have softcap def. Then add a hi mission diff, mobs will be hitting and dealing a lot more damage.
What is the def on his tanks? This can be obtained from powers->combat attr->defense. Look at melee, range, smash, lethal. I usually shoot for 40% or more, depending on my armor. -
Quote:Agreed. You can do this fairly cheaply. 1-2 bill inf and some a-merits can get you a serviceable build. I think purple sets are nice, but not required to do incarnate content.Originally Posted by gameboy1234But you really should IO your character. . . . Making your toon tougher with well chosen IO Sets is a great.
Once you get alpha unlocked, get on a baf trial. Most likely, other players will have destiny powers, so being on SOs is ok just to get a preview. Since your 50 is a melee, I strongly suggest getting an io build for survivability. -
Thanks for the replies everyone! I'm revising the build to include Ov Force and ATE
-
While making a so build for my f2p friend's corr, I wonder if it is possible for a f2p to slot ov force and the corr atio. Anyone know? Thx in advance!
-
My goal is to collect 100 ov force rewards.
that will hopefully tide me over till next year.

Download from coh titan should be safe, but you can scan it manually with your antivirus. After install, click on the datalink and the build will open in mids. I assume you are vip. If not, you can't use the set ios in the build.
I see some expensive ios in that build. To change ios, just click the slot and pick the one you want. There are buttons near the top that show bonuses and total stats. Based on whether you want recharge or defense, slot ios as needed. Enjoy! -
What are you farming for? Shards? Purp recipes? Threads? PLing lowbies? Tough enemies?
Shards - drops more often from Lts & bosses, so to max drop rate, max kill rate. Diff +1x8 for more lts and bosses. Higher diff wont spawn more bosses and take longer to kill, so no need to run +4.
Threads - da missions, same strategy as shards
Lowbies - da missions, +4x8, tsoo, cot mobs
Tough enemies - mobs that debuff you, da missions with banished pantheon, ToV. Unslot all your incarnate powers for extra challenge. For even more challenge, use the third build with empty slots. -
This is best done with CoH windowed, and can be done at any time in the game, even in the tailor.
Alt+PrtSc
Open MsPaint
Ctrl+v or Edit -> Paste (or Home -> Paste)
Save to a file you want
Instead or Ms Paint, I prefer to use Irfanview or Faststone imageview so I can crop and label. Hope this helps! -
On virtue, there's sometimes 4 atlas p to 1 mercy. Just based on that, 2 heroes to 1 villain, minimum. As much as 4 to 1 on small servers.
Also consider the superhero themed movies out there. The hero wins in the end. Who doesnt want to win? -
Personally, I find TFs under 50 less flexible in terms of xp earning. Here's why-
- the team is locked when the TF starts. This means if anyone quits or dcs for over a hr, that player cant be replaced. There's a person at the other end, and real life can sometimes interrupt. The team size cant be increased either. So the team can lose people and cant grow larger. This can be annoying on small teams when 2 friends decide to go play basketball in the middle of a TF and just quit.
Another possibility is a real bad player. The leader can kick, but now there are less people to take down an av, less dps, & therefore less xp / min.
- cant dynamically change the dificulty. If the team is doing well, the leader can increase the diff for more xp. Conversely, if the diff is +1 or more, the diff can be lowered if the team is getting wiped. If the leader started the Tf at +3 diff, and the team gets thrashed repeatedly in the 2nd mission, then running at +3 is earning more debt than xp. The leader cant reset the mission with a lower diff.
Im not saying TFs are bad. Tfs impose certain restrictions that limit the leader's choices in terms of team size, difficulty and mob size which in turn affects xp earning. -
For me, it comes down to xp/min, not xp/kill. Sure, one can fight +4 mobs, but if it takes 2 mins to drop a +4 to get 1500 xp, it is not worth it if you can take out 8 enemies worth 1000 xp at +0 at the same amount of time. 1500 vs 8000? Hmmm...
Outside of ae, a high dps DA team running +4x8 with at least a couple of 50 +3s in it. The mobs con at +1 to the incarnates, but +5 to a lowbie, so the incarnates kill quick, and the lowbies get xp at +5 equivalent.
Other folks have made good suggestions, but on your own, you could pick missions with mobs you can easily kill to maximize xp / min. I recommend using herostats to figure out which mobs give you the most for your time. -
I had the awesome priviledge of playing with a really rich player with a build chock full of expensive and rare set IOs. He was on my Apex team. Unfortunately, even with his super-duper build, he faceplanted many times while we fought Battle Maiden. Sadly, money doesn't buy everything.
