Quote:Old Republic Online has me awful interested, too.
I think for the year to come the biggest problem by far CoH will have is DCO release. If its a flop like champions then I think CoH still stands a good chance of having many more years left in it.
But yeah, I hope Smedley over there at SOE noted CO launching months and months before it should've as a buggy unfinished MMO with blatant cash grab schemes (pay for 12 month sub for an STO beta invite? launching with microtransactions? lol, you have to get people addicted to playing your game before you can start milking it as a cash cow) will just generate another flopped game rather than making them at SOE or DC skittish and think 'oh the market for superhero MMOs is too niche; let's cancel DCUO's development and make a WoW clone instead'. Sometimes these guys don't exactly recognize mediocre games fail because they're mediocre instead of because there's no market for it. Man, I'd KILL for a good sci-fi MMO, but sci-fi MMOs generally flop due to mediocrity. EVE is the best out there but it's sleep inducing. -
I'm of the opinion it would be just super if Kheldians got some minimal status protection from their level 1 innate armor, like the Soldiers get.
VEAT makes a team much better.
A team just makes a Kheldian kinda better. Oh, and they bring awesome Cysts as a present (although it's gotten quite rare these days).
Kheldians were never an epic archetype. In the old days of Kryptonite Quantums they were just laughably bad. I remember voids seemed to even ignore taunts to flip around an 1-shot a kheldian teammate. They were a hybrid AT in a game of pure ATs, with special custom enemies that have been steadily nerfed down over the years. I mean, it was kind of cool to be a pocket blaster or a pocket tanker but they didn't excel at any. But, with IO's these days a WS can be a floating squid tankmage. Peacebringers...lol, sorry Jack nerfed you so hard years ago. You just suck. -
Yeah. I remember back in the first year when CoH was new being in groups with blasters, and it was crazy watching them lay massive minefield of trips and watching it explode all over the place when the pull came in. Fast forward to today: whole packs of enemies are dead before a blaster can even lay one weak widdle trip mine.
Maybe if Trip Mine scattered a handful of bombs in a wide area around a targeting reticle (or point blank) area--and did it quickly, as if you were throwing a handful of small Caltrop bombs or something. And a time bomb with a remote sounds pretty cool. Maybe make a stealthy little Bomber Drone...like, you summon a little Shield Drone pet and can order it to Pet Goto a spot and issue the command to make it go boom. -
I figured they just plain broke at some point and since they've never really served any purpose they were never given any priority to be fixed. I don't even remember if they ever worked right...I guess maybe they must've.
I think in the original game design they were supposed to be hooked into a citywide network to provide generic missions to heroes, but they made Contacts instead. It would've been funny if they had forced heroes to go use the kiosks instead of get a police radio scanner when heroes got the newspapers ported over. -
Has anybody even done an all stalker Barracuda?
I can't imagine how you could kill Reichsman without res and regen debuff. That guy was an unholy monster of overpowered ridiculousness assuming he never got toned down...I haven't run Barracuda since the first week it was live. Bad SF was bad. Unless maybe you could blinding dust the 5th Column ambushes and try to wear him down through sheer misdirected nazi zerg or something.
Surgical strike ITF sounds fun. If it happens on freedom while I happen to be on I'd bring my old DM/Nin out...needs dusted off and I like scrapperlock. Course I should use that freespec and clean it up some, hmm. Don't have the patience for some goofy Master metagaming SF runs, though, I'd probably get splattered on the wall after getting bored and losing interest/focus. -
I hate Black Scorpion.
I hate those Nemesis Mole Machines you have to fight in his arc.
I wish I could hate them dead.
But I can't.
I can only sit there cursing them for being ridiculously overarmored bags of health.
BUT, Black Scorpion is the only place you get to see Crey with nifty scorpion power armor suit upgrades to their normal power armor. -
I'm thinking that they probably won't actually dub any with official deity names and we'll end up with something like Origins. "You're an Incarnate--whether of Odin or Elvis Presley--and get cool powers from their mysterious cosmic presence!"
Being a lackey to a few Patrons was bad enough: how much more would people complain if they only have 4 divinities you can take Incarnate from. -
One of these days the AE buildings will just be replaced with a plot of land that's a burned out shell of a building with bumslump'd hobo against the wall telling you Dr. Aeon got sued for patent infringement by somebody in Texas, and Architect Entertainment went bust.
Or they'll just nerf the poo out of tickets and make it so you can only get 10 per map or something. If you're just looking to PL, heck, even if they completely removed XP from AE people will just go back to their old GV and PI farm missions....in fact I'm pretty sure they are. Saw a WS in AP asking how to get to PI in broadcast a few nights ago. Loooool. Quick ticket rolls for recipes seem to be the bigger AE draw than PL to 50 in a night is. -
I for one would look forward to seeing what the current 7+ year veteran CoH devs could do with CoH2. There's a lot of things they could do better (new upgraded Costumer Creator, woo! NEWMAPS NEWMAPS NEWMAPS), there's a lot of mistakes I'm sure Positron would know to not to repeat, Castle could cast a more critical eye over balance than CoH1 ever had (heck, he could even make a separate ruleset for PvP so it isn't lolpvp), and a GOOD launch could bring a good chunk of subscribers. There's only so much buzz that can be generated towards a 6 year old MMO like CoH1, and only so much you can do to try to mutate an old game into looking "new"...but a relaunch of an upgraded and updated CoH? Yes please.
Just so long as NCSoft doesn't rush it--few and far between are the games that can recover from a bad launch before their game tanks.
oh, and don't copy and paste WoW quests. CoX's missions were that great golden place between allowing soloing but still encouraging grouping. -
The Center didn't appear overnight. The Center was always the shadowy financial supporter that paid to outfit Requiem's army. I think it's hinted his ability is Super Charisma, or something, to keep all these various AVs under his thumb. Or maybe he just throws money at them. Money to Nosferatu to keep eugenically engineering troops, money to Vandal to keep building robots, money to the Nictus because not even evil alien overlords from beyond the galactic rim can do anything without money
-
Also, I hope Kinetics has a power called Whirl Till They Hurl where you use kinetics to make an enemy spin around and around while start the puke emote. While spinning. I eventually dropped Cobra Strike from my Martial Artist, but I'd *never* drop WttH!

Quote:If you're a Villain, you're hosed. Vahzilok only show up in a few lowbie story arcs missions (Ouro the Facemaker arc several times I guess) and very rarely fighting Arachnos on the southern section of Cap. Skulls are even worse. I can't think of Skulls appearing in any real story arc, just lowbie newspaper doors and in the twos or threes over in Mercy *ugh mercy*
. Like Embalmbed Abominations (I think thats the name) I can hardly find them.
And that one Psimon Omega joke map.
But yeah, just go to Perez Park if you're a hero. Usually Hazard Zones are a good place to find large packs of badgey things if you're blueside. Those links help, too. -
Maybe they could make the Mission Computer a Tech version of the magic Pillar of Fire and Ice.
-
Quote:A new TF where you redeem Honoree back to blueside offered to you by a Rikti ambassador in the Vanguard base named Go'n Rog?
"Yeah! I killed Honoree!" -
Knockback. the joys of scrappers and tanks blowing enemies out of each other's attacks...urgh. :/ I want to knock UP! Hit 'em so hard they fly out of their shoes! Like KO blow or Lift.
a return to DB's combo system is cool, though. Chaining your attacks up to get better and different results. Empower and Weaken always just seemed sort of meh, though, maybe put a good combo available at low levels for Kinetic Combat? maybe one combo siphons speed (like Tsoo inkmen, irritating guys), another chain could do the KBs, etc?
Siphon Strength build up type power...I guess that'll be like having to work with Follow Up instead of a clicky BU or Rage so there's a diff. No BU spike and no guaranteed rage-a-holic simmering stacked Rage.
and give us a throwing card attack using Mystic Fortune animation, lol. Gambit wants clones like Wolverine! -
I'd like to see old Boomtown become a 5th v Council zone with story contacts like Faultline. We know it's been being rebuilt since CoV has a mission to wreck their rebuilding efforts. "Newly Risen Columns in Boomtown!"
Dark Astoria has had ideas for a Trial or TF for it floating around for ages, about the Sleeper under the cemetery. Paranormal investigators and mystics could have some short storylines to flesh the place out more.
Crey's Folly and Perez are...uhm, just sort of there. I got nothing against the zones, but no idea on how to go about rebuilding them. Same with Eden...it's a nice zone, and it even has a Trial. But it's just none are places you ever bother to go to. Best I could think of is Police Scanner maps are EXTREMELY limited...maybe Hazard Zones could have scanner missions with different sets of maps and different enemy factions just to break the monotony of it all sometimes. Don't know...they're just relics of not being sure if players would prefer instanced maps or street sweeping teams. Guess they could have Meg Mason type contacts who provide patrol missions to clean out target neighborhoods. Street sweeping teams went the way of the dodo with the difficulty slider, decent door completion hits and reduced indoor debt from defeat. Dead zones, all MMOs accumulate them.
oh, and i almost forgot about Terra Volta. Meh, TV isn't all that interesting a place. Never has been. Maybe they could put in a story arc about radiation leaks from people trying to blow the darn reactor up so much having a mutative effect on the denizens of TV (Freakshow turning into Blighteds? Recolor Shivans and have them becoming a problem like Cap's gremlins infesting the power grid?) -
They've said they're not upping the level cap before.
I expect they meant the Incarnate Alternate Advancement endgame system will be 10 levels. Like, for simplicity's sake, say Incarnate level 1 and 2 gets you a pick from the Incarnate power pool and the other 8 levels earn you one Enhancement slot to assign. (Or maybe they'll be Unenhanceable and you can earn up to 10 Incarnate powers from wide and varied power selection pools. Whatever.)
No telling what it'll take to be earning them. Grinding xp on ULTRA xp grind mode? You exchange Inf or Merits to pay into them? You just keep running a level 50 only TF where you slurp water from the Well? Positron decides to troll everybody HARD and makes you only Incarnate if you have two dozen Master of TaskForceName badges (new Master badges for all TFs! The Master of Masters badge for all Masters!) to keep it a very exclusive evolution? No telling -
Battle Maiden's minions prefer melee, but I wouldn't count on them remaining weak farm mobs for BM runs much longer--I'm sure Castle is going to beef them into real warriors once Going Rogue retcons and updates the Praetorian factions. (I'm sure someone somewhere duplicated the BM farm on AE, lol. Would take about 1 minute.)
Cimerorans prefer to get up close and personal and hack at you with swords instead of chuck javelins at you, though, and they're real enemies. -
Quote:I'd rather they be Spectral Lords with those nasty acc debuff cloaks
I'm thinking of the possibility of behemoth style demons for the lieutenants, with a taunt aura and invincibility. -
Quote:I...don't quite believe the code to detect your card is working as intended. I'm pretty darn sure my old vid card would spit out smoke and burn out if I tried to run Ultra Mode with it (after all, it was a cheap replacement when WoW managed to kill my older card and I needed something to drop in quick), but apparently it detects it and says I can turn on Ultra Mode. It isn't as powerful as the minimum req cards Positron pointed out. But maybe his info from december is WAY outdated now. Or maybe nvidia was just fleecing the customers so much my older card is roughly equivalent to one of their newer cards, I dunno how these things work.
If it says nothing, then fail?
Guess I won't know until it goes to open beta, though. -
Real MAN builds 6 slot Brawl!
And they level to 50 in Sewers teams! -
Quote:There's a few spots in PI that I think look sort of not very well done when you're Flying and look down, but I haven't ever had much complaint about it either.
You know what's funny? I've never once thought CoX had poor graphical quality.
And, cmon, it's worth it to look a little less good if you can actually use a costume you designed yourself instead of doing something like Customizing a face (which nobody ever sees, because Helmets hide your face! gj) or LOOK AT THOSE GIANT SHOULDERPADS! WoW, HE MUST HAVE REAL LEET GEAR! or wearing ugly and mismatched armor because armor set A's chestpiece is good but armor set B's leggings are better than armor set A's so hey look at that you're wearing a bright purple breastplate but some fugly peagreen chainmail pants. Not that I haven't seen people with outfits like that in CoX -
if Ultra Mode is going to have these fancy reflective surfaces for water and shiny armor bits and whatever, whoever said the AP City Hall shiny marble floor won't keep reflecting the statues AND the PC/NPCs milling around?
And the Arena floors too, come to think of it. They have that sheen to them. -
Shadow Shard was amazing back when it was first introduced. I had wondered if maybe EQ2 devs had been in this game and paid attention to what the Plane of Sky *should* look like.
Everybody hates it because only Fly works really well for getting around. Those jump points should've had predetermined leap paths so you wouldn't MISS with them more often than not.
Ideally you'd have tons of Contacts in mole points all over the place, and make it like the Hollows so instead of sending you 2 miles away for your mission they send you to the island, or at least NEARBY islands. Arachnos could easily have set up their own military posts around in the many, many Nemesis bunkers that compete with stargate command.
Maybe the zones could be coop, but the PvP comes in the form of who has done more lately. If the Villains have seized control of more areas in the Shard than Heroes by running more missions or capturing Hotspots or something they could get +Travel speed zonewide buffs or whatever. Make those Raptor Packs fly more quicker! Or seizing control of Mole Points from Nemesis/Rularuu that allow fast movement across the massive Shard zones for your faction.
Sometimes I like to go fight around the inner ring of the Storm Palace death star, just for fun. -
1) No endgame.
1a) No visible loot-based endgame progression. I love being able to make my character look unique instead of like EVERYBODY ELSE, but with loot-based progression it's not just having phat lewtz--it's showing everyone online you do that makes the epeen grow. (I hope the Old Republic has a mixture of a wonderful costume creator like CoX's but maybe a few costume parts that reflect what you're wearing. Man, Kotor had some ugly and stupid looking armor. just say no to head pieces...)
2) No out of combat skills system.
3) bad pvp is bad.
4) Repetitive nature of the limited number of map layouts/tilesets. But, CoX really did find the sweet spot between tweaking for soloing and tweaking your group spawns for such a long time with the mission difficulty sliders.
5) Devs don't have the Blizzard name and Blizzard reputation behind them. Heck, they suffer from having the Cryptic name attached to them considering the experiences gamers have been having with Cryptic's newer games which are completely unaffiliated with CoX and these devs.
6) No advertising. Unless they're running adverts somewhere I don't see them, CoX has always kept a pretty low profile. Compare that to WoW, which paid to have fairly big name celebs to do commercials for the game. But, it could be worse--at least CoX doesn't have the equivalent of IT'S TIME TO SLAY THE DRAGON.
Ultra Mode counts for some, I guess. I don't really care about graphics. Every now and then when I get a nostalgic hankering I still pop in games that are 15 years old and would make casual gamers cry at how they don't have BLOOM, NEEDS MORE BLOOM! Well, the ones that can still play years and years later (/mourn Thief games. /Thumbs up Deus Ex!)
