  1. I'm thinking about Secret World, but man this sucks.

I'd say dodging a psi assault makes as much sense as not dodging it. It's not a real thing or based on anything real so who's to say you can't mentally dodge it. Maybe you think happy thoughts or focus or go all act-without-acting-zen-mind and it misses. It's as reasonable as it "hitting" and doing some damage but not full because you resisted it.

Specifically for positional defense, maybe it's a visible packet of energy that you can dodge. You can use your 100% psi damage attack to break through doors and beat up robots so it must have some kind of purely physical manifestation so if it's physical, it could possibly be dodged (after all people dodge lasers in the game which should be moving at the speed of light so a blob of mean thoughts might be a cake walk in comparison).
  3. If you like controllers or just a different experience than a lot of blasters, try an ice/energy or ice/ice blaster. You have arguably better single-target controls (3 stacking holds w/ice+ice or stacking holds + stun & power boost w/ice+energy) and great single-target damage which becomes pretty good AOE damage if you can maximize the effectiveness of Blizzard. Any way, it's very survivable when soloing (holding a boss is no big deal) and can contribute significantly when on a team (good single-target damage for AVs, helps with control of AVs (if you have the right team) and moderately good AoE damage). It's still a blaster in that if you slack off you can get your butt handed to you but you have a lot of control options.

You might want to pack a snack lunch for your wait on the Hamidon Power Set to be released.

Seriously, expecting NPC = PC is unrealistic. NPCs are meant to be challenges to be overcome not equal contestants competing against players on an even field. There are countless examples of NPCs doing things that PCs can't. That's part of the game. Balance is not the same as "exactly the same as players".

In an obstacle course, you expect the walls you have to climb to be taller than you. Consider NPCs to be walls to climb rather than players to compete against.
  5. #529832 Rularularian was recommended to me too and it was a great arc. I don't play in the Shard a lot so I wasn't super familiar with all the canon material that the story used as background but it was well developed with lots of interesting detail in the dialog and plot. The fights include a variety of enemies and some big climactic fights with various helper NPCs you can recruit beforehand. Very well done over all.
  6. Energy melee should be improved if it is underperforming just because it is underperforming.

It shouldn't be improved just because there is desire from a player(s?) to create a melee set that isn't-martial-arts-based-and-doesn't-possibly-use-chunks-of-rocks-flames-or-ice-in-the-shape-of-weapons-and-doesn't-use-dark-just-because and isn't the exact set that you are asking for, super strength, because you've already played it a lot since it fits your amazingly narrow precepts.

Good luck but your premise is basically "we need some good super strength clones" which I don't particularly agree with.

But isn't that just the next step? If selling names for inf on the forums becomes acceptable, it's just opening the door for someone to come along looking for cash transactions.
The existence of the market establishes that it is OK to sell in-game items for influence. That is what the market is all about. Which is not to say that the devs condone name-selling but the argument that selling in-game leads to selling for real money doesn't stand up. I've been selling since WW opened and never have considered selling anything for real money.
  8. I have no idea if there is any synergy but I started a Dual Pistol/Time corrupter. I like it because DP looks like you would have to be able to manipulate time in order to shoot like that.
  9. je_saist, the text you quoted has to do with account names, not character names.

To the OP, you have nothing to worry about; if a GM was going to bust everyone who had a similar name to some d-list character somewhere then that GM would be very, very busy. I expect nearly every animal-related or god-related name in game has had some kind of counterpart in pop culture if you look hard enough. A name alone is not going to get you busted unless it is the name of an A (or maybe B) - lister.

    hyperinflation

I expect that Alignment Merits will make high-end inventions cheaper over time, since the sellers realize they have more competition. That doesn't seem like devaluing currency to me. Also, I don't think AM would have much (if any) effect on less-than-top-tier inventions, like Crushing Impact or Thunderstrike. I certainly still use sets like that but wouldn't ever use Alignment Merits to buy them.

    Tornado

The power is autohit as far as I know. I have used it a lot over the years and have never noticed any missing vs high-defense opponents. However, I have not tested it.

    Issue 19.5

I wish that the different origins reflected sub-genres and affected what missions were available to you (or possibly affected specific elements within missions). So Natural characters got more film noir-ish stories, Tech got some evolution of a tech-society stories (Blade Runner, etc), Mutant got stranger-in-a-strange-land, identity politics, etc stories, Science got some cerebral detective stories (ala "Bones" or more fantastically "Dr. Who") and Magic got some spiritual searching, nature of reality stories.

The little blue book that came with the game when it was first released said that aliens were science origin. But who is what origin is entirely based on what the player selects. Superman isn't any origin because he isn't a PC.

Regarding the Turtles, maybe they are mutant origin. Perhaps the toxic sludge only accelerated a natural mutation that was going to happen as soon as they hit turtle puberty. IT COULD HAPPEN! And maybe they actually suck at martial arts but they are able to use their mutant ability of "telekinesis - limitation: only works on self" to telekineticly move their arms and legs into MA appropriate positions. All that training they did didn't really teach them to be good at MA but it helped them develop an ability to focus and their hidden mutant TK abilities took over.

Everyone has the ability to become a MA/WP scrapper? I think even within the realm of "Natural" potential still comes into play. People may have the ability to become better at fighting through training but I don't think everyone could become the kind of seemingly super-human elite warrior that a scrapper represents.

*I'm not suggesting that the second and third paragraph have anything to do with Eiko-Chan's post. Sorry for the confusion.
  14. What is the Lord of Winter event, anyway? I was on earlier and saw the Lady Winter option and the Snaptooth option from Father Time but I didn't see anyway to start a Lord mission. Is the contact/whatever in a different location?

    What is Alpha?

    If so, ouch.
Yes, and the enemies in those TF spawn at 54 so a non-alpha-slotted character would be -8 to them; useless other than for buffing or possibly being vengeance/fallout bait.
  16. I'd like some red name clarification if possible. OCHO said no new slots till I20. WW says that Posi says that slots will be released incrementally between issues. Which is it? These were both recent statements so I'm not sure which is accurate (or maybe I'm misunderstanding something since I haven't played around with the alpha slot much on test yet).
  17. It seems like an appropriately useful power for a vet reward. Personally, I have altitis and have been playing other things as well so I generally have either a load of patrol xp available or a new day job badge whenever I log onto a character but I appreciate the gesture.
  18. I haven't really paid a lot of attention to it but I keep Practiced Brawler as auto on my MA/SR scrapper and it seems like sometimes it shuts off (i.e. doesn't auto-refire) when I am in non-combat areas like the University or a shop. I haven't noticed it ever doing it on a mission so I haven't really paid much attention to it but maybe it is related to what you are experiencing.

    1. Overcrowding. Exactly where are all the people supposed to live if everyone is immortal?

    2. With overcrowding comes diminishing food supplies. As more and more people need places to live the amount of land used for food production will get smaller and smaller. Animals used for livestock will become extinct in the face of ever growing demands to feed a population that never dies except by accident or suicide.

    3. Jungles and forests will be decimated to make room for an ever growing population which will result in there being less oxygen produced that is essential to support life.

    4. Pollution will constantly get worse just because the need for natural resources will increase to meet the demands from en ever growing population....
Assuming a future where technology mostly eliminated death, then there could be technological answers to these other concerns too. People might significantly lower their birthrates if they were immortal and, with terraforming and eventually the creation of ringworlds or Dyson spheres, overcrowding would be a non-issue and food production would be no problem either. Cold fusion and similar technologies would make energy abundant and pollution non-existent.

Of course, that's based on lots of assumptions regarding complimentary technologies all being available at the same time. A "cure" for aging is probably a lot more realistic than the engineering resources to actually create a Dyson sphere.

Unless there really are some immortals out there, everyone already has this power. I think the average duration of the self-destruct process is around 75 years or so. You probably won't ever see it CoH because the animation work would be a bear.
  22. I have procs in my defenders Neutrino Blast. It is a very fast recharging, low damage power and that is the kind of thing that seems ideal for procs to me. It provides lots of chances to have the proc go off and slotting up recharge much is overkill on a little pew-pew power like that.

I would not put damage procs in something like Incinerate because I would rather spend those slots on damage, recharge, acc & endurance so I probably wouldn't have any slot space after pumping all those up.
  23. I like the vet rewards but I do wish they would revamp them so that instead of getting costume part X at month Y, you instead got a token that let you unlock one of the Vet Reward Costume Options. So if 6 month Vet Reward is a costume option (I don't remember if it is) then you could get Angel Wings or Greek Letters or which ever particular VRCO most appealed to you. While this wouldn't eliminate Eiko-chan's complaint it would at least mitigate it somewhat.
  24. I have the heal proc from Sandman on my mind controller and my ice tank. It's helpful in a minor way but both of those use AoE Sleeps. I think if you just slap it into a single-target punch you are going to see very, very, very little benefit.

My MA/SR doesn't have a heal and he does really well (he has Tough though). The vast majority of the time an occasional green is all you need because you just don't get hit that often. If you are on a team and there is even just a smidge of healing going on then you are golden.
