  1. As far as I know it's only the Praetorian DE and Resistance that have the higher to hit. Resistance through targetting drone (which not all of them have) and DE built in natively.
  2. Two obvious ones that jump out for me, are Ragnarok into waterspout and Apocalypse into Jacob's ladder or Lightning Rod.

Ah, but the question is, which has higher damage? The whole point of Frosticus' build was to try and make the highest damage dominator possible. survival is not as important so PFF I don't mind losing.

The build is in my original post. It was created by Frosticus last year sometime. It's more of a thought or build experiment to see just how much damage can be squeezed into a single build. According to his tests only an Illusion/Cold Controller and one specific build of Bane Spider could out damage this baby. And both of them only by a very small margin.

Since it is originally before alpha slots and inherent fitness and before APPs for villains, I was asking if there are any ways to squeeze out even more damage. As built it runs, If I recall from his tests, 400-410+ dps sustained.

I'm not actually even sure what this is referring to. Is i20 coming out already I'm guessing based on the other posts mentioning releases.

I just log in, if there's a new patch, woohoo new stuff. If no new patch, woohoo I get to play!

    Win-win.

(he's not all that interested in badges or accolades, or even the merits, but give him the notice of the wells and/or bonus xp to level his characters, and he'll run anything.)
So, why not let purples drop from any foe via the same argument?

Ignoring the microrent long enough to get locked out of the base on the rare occasion I do want access is especially annoying. I'd almost really rather not bother with it.

    Well, I'll think about it.
As was recommended, one of the best ways to handle this is to have a dedicated alt parked by the registrar to make payments (atlas city hall blueside, arachnos building marconeville Port Oaks, redside). then, in a worst-case scenario you have to log into the character and log back into the one you wanted to play.

Not nearly as bad as travelling usually, though blueside with the o-portal access might be faster depending on your load screens =)

I *do* sometimes help guildies and coalies with lower level missions, and run the occasional lowbie TF.

However, it does not sound as if it is worth the time and expense of using 12+ respecs.

    Clear skies to you all!
The beauty is that you do not need to use any respecs at all. The third build starts out empty.

Unfortunately, that doesn't work on the crashes I get. If I talk to an NPC, any NPC except for a store, if I open my contacts or tips windows, etc. the game hangs. At that point nothing works except power off. Even CMD+ALT+ESC.
  9. Also, I still get heinous lag with buffers off. I found shadows were also a killer in bases with too many objects. There was a third setting as well but I never remember it. If anyone else still has issues after the buffers, try turning down your shadows to low or off.
  10. Everyone's covered blue so I'll give some quick advice red.

If you can stealth, or don't mind running past enemies, the Spy Hunt gives 16 merits and is plenty fast. Except the last mission is timed so you do all the rest in 15 minutes, log out then do something else while it fails and you collect the full reward. Midas Touched is shorter for 11 merits but it's easier to speed through spy hunt I've found.

Other than that, the only good options are the Rikti Warzone arcs mentioned above.

Basicly redside Oro is yet another case of "Dev's hate villains". The two highest merit-earning arcs are Johnny Sonata's soul for 14, and Sucker born every Minute for 17. Neither of which are fast, and there are literally no options for 20+ merit stories at all.
  11. It will trigger once on you when you first summon the tree. Then every 10 seconds it will trigger to give the tree bonus regen and not give you any benefit.

Put it in health, it is worth slightly more than a level 50 Heal IO.

the confusion comes in because volcanic gasses summons pseudo pets. Just like a click power with a really really fast recharge, they can trigger the proc more than 1/10 seconds even though the caster will fire volcanic gas and think it is a long duration power. Behind the scenes the pseudo pets are using click powers that trigger it way more often.

As for the bosses thing. I feel the fact that you fire off the second hold before you know if the proc worked is irrelevant. The proc triggers and stops the boss from moving or attacking. that is what counts. then the second hold lands and adds duration, even if magnitude is no longer needed, you often need a bit more time to kill a boss before an initial AoE hold wears off. Those ST holds are where that duration comes from. Therefore I slot the proc very commonly.

I also like the gravitational anchor chance to hold in my AoE immobilize, and I have at least 1 attack power with the devastation chance to hold.

This is probably because I slot neither for permadom (I think the highest recharge I have on any of my doms is 80% including 70% from haste), nor for defense (the highest defense I have on any dom is 22% s/l). All of my survivability comes from holds and kills, and I can say the proc works just fine =)

every 10 seconds, but otherwise yes. Health is one of the best places to put it, but keep in mind that it is not very powerful. The advantage lies in the fact that it is a proc and not an enhancement. So it lets you exceed the ED cap, and it works when you are debuffed etc.

Still, most people don't consider it worthwhile. I bought one myself, because I wanted to exceed the ED cap for my /regen character =)
  14. To quote StrongBad "Now that's what I'm talking about!"

    Thanks!

But the other question gets at the Ice APP vs Scorpion's PPP. Sleet is typically seen as better -res and better damage than poisonous ray. What is the recommended slotting for Sleet? I'm assuming the same posi + Achilles heel?

Obviously frozen armor can take the place of scorpion shield (though not as effectively since it loses the energy defense)

Maneuvers instead of PFF, and don't run it, just slot the recharge?

But the loss of soulbound allegiance hurts when there's no good TAOE replacement to go into Ice Storm. Already have 5x 6.5% bonuses so don't need another Posi. I'm guessing Javelin's Volley is the best to get the 2.5% damage and only come out with a loss of 1.5%.

Or ice blast with devastation. But don't really need it as a single-target blast.

    ...

Perhaps after 100 rolls for a shard, a streak breaker should kick in, and give you 1!
They aren't empty handed. First off they get an Ancient Nictus Fragment which is worth 4 shards, and is 100% guaranteed, all you have to do is select it upon completion of the ITF. Additional sources of Guaranteed shards are the weekly strike force. The notice of the well can be broken down into 6-8 shards. Run Manticore this week, and walk out with minimum of 6 shards, guaranteed, nothing random involved (except for those who might get 7 or 8 instead of six).

And if that wasn't enough you can also buy G'rai matter for vanguard merits.

Now, what if you don't need G'rai Matter or Ancient Nictus Fragments? Well, there are other task forces that give other common components, and additionally all of them can be broken down into shards.

It's not all random. There are guaranteed ways to get them. Just not necessarily as efficiently. But still available.
  16. Been gone for a while but am back. Does anyone have advice for the build I posted? Scene's is interesting, but definitely far below Frosticus' in terms of total damage (while getting vastly more survivability). Looking for a pure damage build as posted originally, any suggestions on how to take advantage of alpha and inherent fitness to eek out more?

In absence of anything else I'm guessing musculature and leadership to replace fitness, go tactics, assault and vengeance. Vengeance and assault do fine with 1 slot each and I can leave tactics turned off =)
  17. I know I'm substantially inf negative. I actually tried to be inf positive but I'm just a really horrid farmer even on my most efficient characters. I rarely vendor anything, I even market my common recipe drops, I delete temp power recipes and costumes. I sometimes vendor a few common salvage and I usually vendor To/DO/SO drops. But really that's not an impressive bit of inf entering.

I do a lot of inefficient crafting, I buy level 50 common recipes off of the crafting tables when I'm feeling lazy (which is often) and I blow surprisingly large wads of inf on the tailor. Hell, not only do I blow inf on the market, I don't often respec and salvage IOs, I just write over them.

Personally, I think that the total inf in the system is going up. Though I'd love to be wrong.
  18. Just for those who might have been curious I present the following:

Due to a move I've been relegated to connecting over a Virgin Mobile MiFi system. Which is a portable version of the Sprint 3G network. And I only own a several-years old iMac with a junk graphics card (ATI Radeon HD2600), running on 4g of Ram (and that's as high as I can go).

And it worked just fine for the most part. I get an annoying lockup/crash talking to NPCs, but actual play was ok. For a while there were more mapserves than usual but that smoothed out so I think it might not have been me. Yes it was a tad more laggy than usual, but not particularly. No horid rubber banding, etc.

So if you ever wanted to know if one of the various 3g cellular modems would be playable, yes it is. =)

    2) IF I GO ALL PROCS, Acc/Dam HO or Common Acc IO?
Acc/Dam HO. Its base damage is quite high and unless you're tossing around fulcrum shift, a damage IO is worth more than a proc in my experience.

I run 2x recharge, 2x acc/dam HO, and Posi proc/Impeded proc. With no recharge needed, I recommend:

    2x acc/dam HO
    Posi Proc
    Impeded Swift Proc
    Javelin Volley Proc
    Trap of the Hunter Proc

Edit: always slot accuracy in this baby. You really will appreciate it.
  20. It depends on who you use it on. Vs minions, I understand that it is 100%, but against AVs it is only 15% (they resist 85% or more) also look into the effects of the purple patch for level differences.

This is the key. Also, you always get the full drop =)
  22. I start slotting set IOs at level 7. A triple IO level 17 is comparable to a +0 SO and it never expires. Anything above that is just gravy.

Lots of the low-level ones can be bought cheap in recipe form, and if you get drops they're always worth crafting.

When I get higher I use by second build to create a "final" layout and I put the stuff I plan to keep at 50 into it slowly as I get the money or drops. This way I have a build that works and has good numbers but with a mishmash of IOs from all different levels, and a second final build and I can just focus on enjoying the character.

Best of both worlds. =) We have two (now three) builds, might as well use 'em.

She can kill an entire spawn of minions and LTs in the time it takes to kill the 2 bosses in the spawn, so the bosses aren't worth it and slow her down too much. My ss/shield brute on the other hand does include bosses, since they go down pretty quick with knockout blow.
The key factor is bosses are (very roughly) 10:1 over minions in drops, and about 3:1 over lieuts. So if you can kill a whole pack of minions and lieutenants faster than the boss, turn 'em off. Most AoE can easily accomplish killing 3 lieutenants or 10 minions faster than 1 boss.
  24. Interesting. Any idea if that third slot in Stamina is needed with the Cardiac alpha? Is there anywhere else it can be used for some extra +Damage or anything else useful?

Oh no, I know all about that. I've actually warned people about it in other threads. But the question is, if the goal is pure DPS numbers, what can you do with that one slot that adds more than 2.5% damage?

Extra endurance is not doing it. Extra recharge is not. Where else can you get more damage with that 1 slot?
