Need upgrade for fire/fire dom

So, this build is from Frosticus, it runs about 400 DPS and at the time it was built was one of the top 5 damaging builds for any AT. But it is a tad old, pre-inherent fitness and pre-APPs. I was looking to modernize it and if possible up the damage output. Any idea if the ice app will outperform the -res in scorpion? I'm assuming so, but not really sure. And what to do with the extra 1-slot power picks? I'm guessing assault (with just end red) and maneuvers (with either hami-o or def/end IO)? Anything better?

I think the 2.5% damage was the reason he put the proc in, unless you can find a spot that gives better results?

What are you thinking for slotting on Sleet, and what else to to take out of the APP?

I think you misunderstood me.
The Purple Stun proc is broken

You're really not getting much out of the End Mod triple in stamina 2.5% damage for a slot could surely be put to better use.

EDIT: alos ugh. no datalink/import chunk makes it hard to help.

Oh no, I know all about that. I've actually warned people about it in other threads. But the question is, if the goal is pure DPS numbers, what can you do with that one slot that adds more than 2.5% damage?

Extra endurance is not doing it. Extra recharge is not. Where else can you get more damage with that 1 slot?

my fire/fire dom is only at 42 atm, so I couldn't tell you if having the cardiac alpha would allow you to free up a stamina slot or not.

You could always replace bonfire with incinerate, slot it with Mako's Bite and use the spare stamina slot in haste to cover the loss of recharge and make it perma, but tbh at the expense of gaining a 3% damage buff over a loss of 6.25% recharge, 0.25/s recovery and 9% accuracy, I'd rather stick with the 3 slot stamina

Two lvl 50 IOs will give 84% boost to stamina, so a 3rd is going to smash into the ED cap pretty quickly. You can easily get the missing 16% with some IO set bonuses.

If you're running Cardiac, that'll more than make up for not having that extra 16% end recovery, so yes, move that slot somewhere else. You could put some extra end redux somewhere with it or get another IO set built up with +end/recovery in it.

IDK... My fire/fire/fire dom needed 2nd/3rd (can't remember which except that 1st tier wasn't good enough) tier cardiac to completely get rid of his end problems even with perma dom refills. He only has one set of purples though so you crazy purpled out guys prob have more recovery buffs than I do.

Been gone for a while but am back. Does anyone have advice for the build I posted? Scene's is interesting, but definitely far below Frosticus' in terms of total damage (while getting vastly more survivability). Looking for a pure damage build as posted originally, any suggestions on how to take advantage of alpha and inherent fitness to eek out more?

In absence of anything else I'm guessing musculature and leadership to replace fitness, go tactics, assault and vengeance. Vengeance and assault do fine with 1 slot each and I can leave tactics turned off =)

I'd also go for the leadership pool as you've stated. I'd probably take out 1 slot from fiery embrace (you only lose 2secs removing the 3rd recharge), and put it into tactics, then slot 2 Adjusted Targeting IOs into it for an added 2% dmg bonus (probably +hit/end & end/rech so that I could use it without too much end consumption).

I would then remove the +rech lotg from scorp shield and replace it with the red fortune def IO, and dump the lotg into Vengeance - this will give you an extra 5% global rech. With that extra 5% you then only need to 2 slot Haste to keep it perma - this extra slot could go into Fire Breath as an End IO or you could 2 slot consume and put in Efficacy Adapter EndMod/Acc & Acc/Rech (or you could keep it in Fiery Embrace )

But the other question gets at the Ice APP vs Scorpion's PPP. Sleet is typically seen as better -res and better damage than poisonous ray. What is the recommended slotting for Sleet? I'm assuming the same posi + Achilles heel?

Obviously frozen armor can take the place of scorpion shield (though not as effectively since it loses the energy defense)

Maneuvers instead of PFF, and don't run it, just slot the recharge?

But the loss of soulbound allegiance hurts when there's no good TAOE replacement to go into Ice Storm. Already have 5x 6.5% bonuses so don't need another Posi. I'm guessing Javelin's Volley is the best to get the 2.5% damage and only come out with a loss of 1.5%.

Or ice blast with devastation. But don't really need it as a single-target blast.

I tend to really like the Ice APP for Doms. For my Plant/Thorns/Ice, I took Sleet, Hoarfrost, Ice Storm, and Frozen armor. Sleet I just slotted with some recharge and ACC, and then slotted -res proc. With just 4 slots, you can get good ACC, almost capped recharge, and the proc, Then Hoarfrost gives you 5% recharge from doctored wounds, plus it's almost perma with this much recharge, only 15 seconds downtime. Ice storm takes Posi, and while Posi is low on recharge, it does have middling end red, which is useful considering how expensive IS is.

Not sure which build you guys were discussing, but using Scene's last build, I pulled a couple slots out of Stamina, cause IMO 5 slots is overkill, the benefits are ok, but not really incredible. Then using the 2 extra slots, plus what was in the mace pool, changing nothing else, I have Sleet 4 slot, Hoarfrost and IS 5 slot, and Frozen armor 3 slot. This gets Sleet well enhanced, Posi in IS, Doctored wounds in Hoarfrost, and Frozen armor with LoTG and 2x Def/End to get it some end reduction, cause it it slightly expensive.

This looses a little bit of SL Defense, about 18% regen, but gains 6.25% recharge, and a bunch of max hps, with Hoarfrost up most of the time. Also get Sleet and Ice Storm, which will increase your damage by quite a bit more then Poison Ray and the pet.

That all was looking at the EPP/APP. To be honest, not sure why you thought you were capped on 6.25 on that build. Even with the Posi in IS, you can change Fire Blast to a Decimation, and that adds another 6.25, that puts the build up to 206.25% global, including hasten, which is well perma. If you want even more recharge, I expect you could steal slots from various places to get Consume up to 5, and stick an obliteration in it, not sure if that is worth it or not though. If you don't plan on using Frozen armor and just want it as a LOTG mule, then you could steal a slot from there, and Fire Blast and Incinerate to slot up Consume. You loose a bit of endmod enhancement, but actually end up with a lot more recharge in consume, and Consume is really nice IMO.

Here is a modified version of Scene_EU's build with all the changes I mentioned. Not sure if it's better, just different, more recharge and has the ICE APP for more damage, but less regen and doesn't have PFF as a fall back. If you don't want to bother putting the Obliteration in Consume, then you can move slots back to the attacks, or over to Frozen armor.

Just wanted to mention another alternative, I love Sleet, and Ice Storm is great, but another option that works well for /Fire Doms is to grab the Fire APP to leverage Embrace of Fire as much as possible. If you want to do that, Here is a possible version with the Fire APP. Grant invis is your 5th LOTG, Fireball and Rain of Fire are very nice damage, and Rise of the Phoenix is somewhat useful, and will take Doctored Wounds, keeping the build at 211% recharge. If you dont mind giving up the 5% recharge could drop Rise for whatever, SJ maybe, and use the extra slots to fill out various things.

Ah, but the question is, which has higher damage? The whole point of Frosticus' build was to try and make the highest damage dominator possible. survival is not as important so PFF I don't mind losing.

The build is in my original post. It was created by Frosticus last year sometime. It's more of a thought or build experiment to see just how much damage can be squeezed into a single build. According to his tests only an Illusion/Cold Controller and one specific build of Bane Spider could out damage this baby. And both of them only by a very small margin.

Since it is originally before alpha slots and inherent fitness and before APPs for villains, I was asking if there are any ways to squeeze out even more damage. As built it runs, If I recall from his tests, 400-410+ dps sustained.

Honestly, i'd swap to fire mastery, for fireball and RoF, which may not actually benefit your already high single target DPS, but it will substantially increase your AOE damage. Especially because Fiery Embrace benefits everything fire mastery has to offer. I'd also go Cardiac on the alpha boost, probably the end/range variety, so that you can cut out basically any endurance problems (and just use consume for more AOE damage) and be able to attack from further away as your closing in on your enemies.

I'm also on the bandwagon for Cardiac -- the extra range is the bomb for Acid Reflux Breath (the extra ranges boosts the size of the power's AoE). And, with the fire APP, you have the option to do an OMG huge amount of ranged AoE damage. Cardiac further gels well with this mix of powers since all that AoE carnage tends to come at a massive end cost.

I've never really been that impressed with the damage out of fire compared to ice. Sure it's better at killing minions, but on Bosses and especially AVs, the -Res in ice goes so much farther.

Especially with judgement available now, fire just isn't looking too tastey, but ice is looking better and better.

on Cardiac, I'm a bit torn. I drool over the extra damage from musculature, but I do see the advantage of both the range and the end reduction allowing more and more of the higher end attacks. Sigh. I hate having to choose =) but I guess in the end I have 3 builds, might as well use two of them =)

I have a Fire^3 Dom planned, and I think I'll go Musculare Radial. The Damage boost also helps the Immobilize and Hold powers that are not slotted for damage, the Endurance Modification works for Stamina and Consume, and it boost your Immobilize duration as an extra treat. If you take Smoke the -To Hit will help it as well.

This is something I noticed as well. And most of my controls are overslotted for mez and underslotted for damage.

Well, overslotted is a bit of an exagerration. Can you really have too much mez? =)
