  1. A lot of interesting stuff in here - Thanks VK for sharing it.

Still, I can't help but wonder how many Paragon Points the cute little puppy cost...

    You would.

That said, these guys can't even make Base Rent work properly - ever.

Why would we think they'd be any more competent with real money?

  3. There has never been a ban, or even a moratorium on farming in this game.

In fact, the devs have generated a LOT of content that is *intended* to be
farmed (to a degree that they perceive as reasonable, of course).

Some simple examples: iTrials, Respec Trial (3x respecs), PvP temp power missions
(Bloody Bay - Hyper Stealth, Shivans, Warburg Nukes etc), DfB tf, Halloween
    Event, etc.

To be sure, the devs will dial things back if they think it's excessive (WinterLords,
Quick Katies for instance), or if characters are leveling faster than they
like, but barring the AE fiasco a couple years ago, they won't ban for
farming (assuming you define "farming" as repeating the same content over
and over, primarily for the rewards).

In terms of "services" where in-game inf is exchanged between players, they
won't ban for that either. One of our more famous/infamous marketeers (Smurphy)
used to offer Currency Exchange services, back before gleemail solved that need
and he specifically contacted devs to see if that would be acceptable.

The basic answer was: "As long as it involves in-game items/inf, it's fine"

Now, if you're talking about Real World (tm) currency, that is a definite No-No.

    Your friend is wrong.

The character is level 29, i can build her to get 35% s/l defense and add more slow resist, but it just doesnt feel sturdy enough to me.

this was +2 on a team of 8.

there is also the problem of me having a small baby, who still wakes up to eat every hour while im playing at night. i have to go afk randomly and with no warning - which is fine for soloing that character - cause who cares if i die? but if i just jumped into a big pack of mobs and suddenly have to run off, i can wipe the team. I had to quit playing my dark defender for this reason, and so im looking for something a little less essential to team survival but still team friendly.

earth/thorn dominator seems nice - thorntrops actually says they do the same damage as rain of fire? that seems crazy. fire/storm corrupter seems good too. both soloable, both classes the team doesnt absolutely rely on to survive. well.. the storm, they do rely on, they just usually dont know it because 90% of teams are ignorant of the mighty awesomeness of storm!
Can't help you with the baby issue.

The Nullifiers (and for my high regen Brute, the Spec-Ops) can be trouble,
but they're Lt's and Minions respectively, so your holds should lock them down,
and obviously you should handle them first - just like you would with sappers
(although, at L29, you might not have encountered those yet).

I'm trying to recall what I do with flyers - I don't remember off-hand (at work)
if I have a -fly attack or not. That said, being on a team, my initial inclination
would be to let your DPS pets (ie. fellow teammates ) handle them...

The Longbow Eagles are all minions, and they have an s/l component to their
attacks iirc, so they should be easily survivable.

Of course, there's nothing wrong with playing other ATs as well, but for
Ice Patch/Burn synergy, you'd be hard-pressed to do better than your Tank
can do (imho), and +2/8 shouldn't be overwhelming a Fire/Ice tank.

    Either way, GL,
    4
  5. Also, if you have any other Stealth capability (ie. Pool Power Stealth, Steamy Mist etc.),
the Stealth IO will also stack with those as well.

Also keep in mind that all 4 of the Stealth Procs are Unique and mutually exclusive,
meaning you can only slot 1 of the 4 in a build.

  6. I love TBS' "rock" reply

One thing my Brute likes about Hurl is that it brings down those pesky flyers.

It also hits hard if slotted well.

That said, it takes forever to animate...

Fire is much faster and does very good damage.

Gloom is very fast, does good damage. My only issue with Gloom is that it's
a DoT, so when I use it against runners, I'm never quite sure if it's going
to finish them off or not.

With Hurl and Fire, I know right away. Unfortunately, with Hurl, if it doesn't
kill them, they're usually gone for awhile.

Depending on what other toys you may have, Nemmie Staff and Blackwand
are also decent ranged powers ... if you have some global ToHit / Accuracy
to improve their hit rate (I can't see your build here, at work).

If you're only going to leave the base slot in whatever option you take, then,
Vet powers become much more viable possibilities imho.

I've never had a toon that has Laser Eyes, so I've got no opinion on that one.

    Slotting help

In addition to Siolfirs comments, I'd also add that much of the slotting debate
depends on what you're trying to achieve.

    Some thoughts to ponder...

    * Performance: Two L25 duo-aspect IO's outperform one +3 SO from each aspect - forever...

    -- Example: L25 Bruising Blow Acc/Dam + L25 Pounding Slugfest Acc/Dam
gives you 40% Acc and 40% Damage boost in two slots...

A corresponding +3 Acc SO and a +3 Dmg SO gives you 38.3% in each.

Not much difference, you say? Numerically, true (at +3). However, you can slot
them once at L22, get better than +3 SO performance all the way to L50, and *never*
have to replace them... With SO's? Not so much...

    * Slot Reduction: As a general rule of thumb, you can get roughly 7 slots
worth of enhancement benefit in only 5 physical slots using IO set pieces.

-- Example 2: Consider a Melee Attack like AS.

Typical SO slotting might be something like: 2 Acc, 3 Dmg, 1 Rch giving
you 66% Acc, 99% Dmg (before ED), and 33% Rch using even level SO's
    and 6 slots.

With this slotting, you'd typically be at 95% softcap in Accuracy against most
mobs, well into ED scaling on Damage, and have a full SO worth of recharge.

    Not Bad.

Using 5 L25 set IO pieces:

    L25 Touch of Death: Acc/Dmg, Acc/Dmg/End, Dmg/End/Rch
    L25 Bruising Blow: Acc/Dmg, Dmg/Rch

You'd get the following numbers: 56% Acc, 92% Dmg, 36% Rch and 32% End
which will be very comparable to the SO slotting - you're probably still at the
Acc softcap, pretty much equal in Dmg and Rch, and you'll have an SO's worth
of End Redx in there too -- in only 5 slots.

Want to put a dmg proc in your AS? You just created the slot for it. Would
you rather use that extra slot for a Kismet, Stealth, Perception or LotG proc
    instead? No problem.

On top of the comparable performance, you...

A: Can do this at L22 and forget about it for the remainder of the toon's career...

B: Also get 3 set bonuses - 2.75% immob duration reduction, 1.5% max health,
and 1% End Recovery. Due to the level of IO's you used, you also have those
3 bonuses on your toon from L22 all the way to L50.

That's a pretty good deal in my book.

    * Build Goals: If you want to focus on set bonuses, say for capping S/L defense,
for instance, then you'd look more at full sets, along the lines that Siolfir is describing.

In the long run, slotting lower lvl set IO's is usually cheaper than repeatedly
replacing SO's, gives smoother and more consistent performance throughout
your toon's leveling career, and gives you the benefits of useful set bonuses
much earlier than you'd have by waiting.

Otoh, if you don't exemplar much, or if you want to save more slots (you can
typically max core attributes in 4 slots with L50 set pieces), or if you don't care
about bonuses while you're levelling your toon, then waiting for higher level
IO's may be the ticket for you...

As stated at the outset, it really depends on what you're trying to achieve
    with your build.

I have never purchased an io off market but have sold a few. Typically if its via email the buyer will send all the money upfront and once received the seller (myself) will then send the io, recipe.

As a seller there is pretty minimal risk for me. However I have to have a good rep or people will not buy ios off market from me.
    This.

As an occasional seller of said shinies, I receive the full payment up front via
gleemail, and then I send them the IO (I usually craft them before selling).

    Certainly, trustworthiness plays a part.

    That said,
Most folks would not expect to walk into a place of business, and walk out with
goods, without paying for them first.

Sure, houses, cars, and other high priced items can involve minimal cash exchange,
but they are also all governed in the real world by enforcible and mutually signed
contracts -- something we do not have here.

To date, I have not had any issues with any of these transactions as a seller,
and certainly, the buyers received the item(s) they paid me for...

Edit: As a buyer, were I in the situation where I didn't know the seller, and was concerned
about getting ripped off, I would very probably ask one of our respected community players
(ie. a Fulmens, or Arcanaville, or some other willing, well known and respected player) to
    broker the transaction for us.

Basically, that means the buyer would give that person the IO, I'd pay my inf to that same
person, and then they'd give me the IO and the buyer would get the inf.

In those instances, it wouldn't be unusual for the broker to get a "cut" for their time and
    trustworthiness.

    Sup Stalker...

Yep. I see this as being primarily a PvE improvement.

I'd expect/speculate that the Assassin's Focus "build-up" will probably also have
time element to it (similar to fury) making it gradually decay.

If that's not the case, I'd imagine stalkers beating up NPC's in a corner somewhere
trying to build up that "Focus" to spike somebody... Potentially fun, but hardly
    a game changer.

If AS out of hide is actually non-interuptable and deals Superior Damage, it might
allow you to drop one attack if you have a tight build -- ie. AS -> Next Biggest
    Hitter --> AS (ooH) <shrug>

It might be useful - but I doubt it would change much in PvP.

That said, it is a nice PvE change if it works as advertised.

  10. EDIT: Missed the post where it resolved itself -- I've run across the same thing in the past.
Glad to know you got it sorted out...
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    One thing you might try.

Log in with your various other alts.

It sounds to me like something is stuck in transit (I've had that happen before
    on my toons).

The gleemail system can get "confused" when there's server lag, client lag, claimed
character/account items, and "expired" mail that it's trying to return (ie. something
past the 60 day time limit).

I don't know what the exact conditions that cause it are, but I've found it resolves
itself eventually (which I suspect is due to me eventually going through my
    various "active" alts)

Cycling through your toons once may allow it to "fix" itself.

Barring that, you're probably looking at customer support.

    GL,
    4
  11. As others have said: No...

Coming up with names is not difficult with a little thought, creativity and imagination.

    Regards,
    4
  12. Yes - it's annoying.

Especially, when it's programmable... By that, I mean that pets can follow you
no matter what (unless they get stuck), some NPCs, like Overdrive, and Ravenstorm
can follow you even with basic stealth (if you don't race away too fast), and
some NPC's can't find the door if you hit them over the head with it... To me,
that sounds like AI settings (especially when we remember that certain ambushes
can always know where you are, as well).

It's actually doubly irritating when you consider that they changed where you can
slot stealth IO's, and/or limited their effects (ie. in Fly, for instance), largely due to
the fact that many of the idiotic NPC's are too dumb to find/follow their rescuer...

My stalkers would pay real money for the option to simply kill them rather than
    kidnap them or "escort" them.

As a player who enjoys playing stealthed squishies, I simply will not take kidnap/escort
missions from the Radio/Paper. It's just not worth the irritation.

If you get stuck with one anyway, then there are really two approaches that I've used.

1> Just wait there with the guy, and then kill whatever ambushes show up. Then,
    proceed to step #2.

2> Shut off stealth and any sprint/ss powers, and slowy drag his sorry backside
    to the exit.

It's a little easier if you clear your way to the guy on the way in (a lot of my
toons have a tendancy to skip stuff they don't strictly need to kill, unless I
get one of these missions), but I really wish the devs would throw us a bone
on this one - it's been like that for years.

    Regards,
    4
  13. Like others, I've only taken the Axe on one character (a Dark/Dark Stalker).

I don't think it's horrible, but I'd definitely rate it the worst of the 4 Vet attacks.

That said, my stalker does find it handy against: Ghosts, CoT Demons, and
    Banished Pantheon.

I also use it to take out those guys with just a sliver of health left, rather than
waste a "real" attack on them.

One thing to note with all the Vet attacks, their accuracy is lacking. That's
not a big problem with Beginner's Luck, but once you hit L20+, you'll want some
global Accuracy and/or ToHit in your build if you're going to continue using them.

Another related aspect there is that they can mess with streakbreaker as well
    if you whiff with one.

    Regards,

  14. I wouldn't be on till way late tonight (Wednesday evenings are spoken for already),
so I doubt anyone will be on at that point.

I'll probably be on Sunday afternoon again, and will check what's going on (I
enjoyed being a part of the Scrappy smackdown team this past Sunday).

My guy is at L22 now, and I'll try to get him up around L25 and switched to Rogue
by the weekend - no promises, but that's the goal...

    This.

Not to seem snarky - that is definitely NOT my intent, but my Fire/Ice tank
can tank Lusca, run the Cimeroran Wall solo, farm the AE Fire missions, and
that's with an non-incarnate, I-11 build (which really needs a respec)...

I understand that's not the same as Longbow by any means, but with Ice Patch
soft control, and your heal, and the ice holds, you should be able to mitigate
quite a bit, if not most, of the damage.

To be sure, *holding* aggro for a team is less of a forte for that AT, but it
takes down mobs better than many other tanks and is darn near indestructible.

As a huge fan of the synergy that is Burn/Ice Patch, I fully understand the
desire to spam that all day , and I'd advocate doing so on the AT that does
it best - your Fire/Ice tanker.

As Rangle advocates, you should post your build in the Tank Forums - I'm certain
they can give you some good advice -- +2 shouldn't be a problem for that AT,

    HP

That does seem quite low for a Claws/WP.

    Some things you can do:

    * Accolades - There are some that add HP notably: Invader, High Pain Threshold,
and Born in Battle that you should work towards- ParagonWiki can give you details.

    * Powers: HPT and RTTC are important. The first adds to Max Health, and the
second is plus Regen, which is based on total HP. Slotting those will make a notable
    difference.

    * Sets: Apart from the first two points, which you can do easily, IO's are the way to
increase HP - but obviously they cost inf. Numinas, LotGs, Scirrocco's Dervish
    are great for Regen.

Numinas, Regenerative Tissue, Efficacy Adaptor, and several of the Attack and
Resistance sets can all add to Max Health.

Obviously, Numina, Miracle and Regenerative Tissue procs can make a big difference also.

In terms of inf, you'll need to take some steps to afford these. Contrary to popular
belief, it's not as difficult as most folks seem to think, but it will require some
effort and knowledge of the Market.

If you're willing to do that, there are some helpful guides in the market section
(including the one in my signature) that can help you with that.

Initially though, I'd start with the first two points, especially if you're a bit Market-shy.

Also, fooling around with your toon in the Mid's planner will give you a good
idea of what's achievable, and what sets would help - best of all, you can do it
    for free there...

  17. I use Void on my Brute - it's PBAoE and he's always in the thick of things,

My Blasters use Ion. It's ranged, it's autohit (iirc), and it looks really cool.

I only have a small handful of Incarnates, so I haven't dabbled with any of the
    other Judgement choices.

I try to run around the map to find things, but all I find are many, many mobs, all aggroing on me. The wiki talks all about crates and not about the mobs or movement. Can someone give me a tip on the detailed strat here?

    3) Did a few BAFs in the last few nights. These worked great (except that so many want to camp the doors instead of chokes, yet say nothing about it when the leader says we'll be using chokes, then fail to do chokes ). However, in the NS & Siege battle, how are people checking to compare their health? I wrote two macros to target each after my last run, but I'm not sure if that's the right technique.
1> You have the basic gist of the raids. Ironblade's summary was excellent.

2 & 3> Trials can be a lot of fun or extremely frustrating. Some general advice,
I'd toss out before getting to the specifics of your post.

If you're NEW to a trial (ie. run it less than 10 times), do everyone in your league
a favor - Be quiet and follow the League/Team Leader's directions.

A league can generally recover from a marginal leader's mistakes easier than
they can from players who don't/won't listen or follow directions.

If you're Experienced with a particular Trial -- then lead it ... if you have the
star. If you don't have the star, then follow directions as well.

The difference is that your experience can greatly help a new (or iffy) leader
by making polite, well-timed tactical suggestions, or you can completely blow-up
    a trial through annoying/unwanted interference - it's a fairly fine line.

I like to think of it like a military chain of command. You *want* experienced Captains
and Lt's adapting and adjusting to changing conditions by using their skills and savvy.

You *don't* want them telling the Generals (stars) how to do things. If you'd rather
BE a general than a captain, feel free to form your *own* trial - but while you're in
one, use your skills to be a good Captain and team player instead.

As for the specifics of Lambda and BAF:

2> In Lambda it is *really easy* to get turned around, separated from your team,
or even get lost in there. I've run dozens of them, and as a non map memorizer,
it still happens to me once in awhile.

    Some tips I'll share:

    * Start well - know which elevator to take for your task (nades or acids)

    * Zoom out your map (the game irritatingly zooms it in while in the maze) and make
sure you can see your teammates on it.

    * Target (or set as WP) your leader - they're usually someone who knows the maze.

    * Realize that Leaders can be new too, or get killed, or likelier move quicker than
you can keep up. In those cases: Use your map and try to stay with as much of
your team as much as you can.

    * If you're squishy: Stealth is your friend - embrace it. Aggro is your Doom -
    avoid it.

    * Target through the Brutes/Tanks/Melee toons and focus on the crates or acids
with ST attacks - taking out the mobs in the maze is not your goal. It also
wastes time, and will usually get ppl killed needlessly.

    * If you're NOT squishy - be mindful that newbies and squishies are counting
on you to help them thru there - sure, you may be able to solo it on your uber
build, but remember - most folks can't and are happy just to live through it

    * When the maze is done, CHECK your temp powers - they're important. If you
don't know how to use them ask your team who you should give them to...

Those ideas should help you get through the maze and hopefully have even
more fun with Lambda - it's a pretty cool trial (imho).

3> In BAF, both Chokepoints and Doors can be effective strategies either separately,
or in combination. In my experience, chokepoints seems to work more reliably,
particularly with new or inexperienced trial runners (A lot of players seem to *think*
they can lock down a door, but more often than not, they can't). For instance
none of my Brutes or Blasters can do it, so I stick to the path or backing up
    a door with those toons...

Even so, I've been on a team of 24 that failed due to escapes (if 20 escape,
you're done), and a team of 13 that stopped them all -- player build, skill, and
group co-ordination are HUGE in this segment of a BAF.

In terms of keeping the AVs even in the end, you should see their health bars
on your screen. I, like others, am not the least bit shy in flipping between the
two targets to help balance it out.

Some players/teams simply do more DPS. So, when the Leader says: groupX = Siege,
groupY=Nightstar, that's a good start, but smart players will also adjust as needed
    to help keep them even.

Also in BAF, watch the Red Rings. That's another way to fail the trial and get a
bunch of folks killed - Sequestering is bad, mkay?

Sorry for the long post, but I've found that the amount of fun/frustration I have
in a trial is often related to the attentiveness of the players and their willingness
to work together towards a common objective. Lapses can occur anywhere
in the chain from the leaders to the back-seat drivers to the clueless (or malicious).

Any of them can butcher a trial - but the awesome ones occur when folks pay
attention and do their role as best as they can.

It really depends on the actual powersets your Brute has.

2000 is decent, but hardly great, and possibly pretty low for certain sets.

For instance, my SS/WP Brute has 2550+ HP, and my SS/Inv has 3000+ (with
    Dull Pain up).

Unless I missed it, I didn't see where you told us what type of Brute you have,

it's a bit below average, and significantly low compared to the two Brutes I have

I'm hoping I can get him up to L20 or so and maybe even get in on the Sunday
session... We'll see how it goes. I plan to let him go Rogue at L20 and wander
back for the Patron Pool (Soul) later on (repeating the tips/alignment swap
a couple times doesn't bother me much).

Also joined the chat channel, so if it works out, I'll join in, and if not, Happy Hunting!

  22. I'm less-inclined to believe a crash just yet as well.

I'm far liklier to believe an upwards bump in supply due to more PvP farming,
assuming: Freeb victim toons can drop those IOs if killed in PvP, and many current
VIPs picked up a free account or two to supplement their Main when Freedom
    went live...

Either way, sounds like an initial score for you (assuming prices don't keep trending
    lower).

I'm far less concerned about a red Email label than I am about knowing what
I have available, so I only ever claim Account/Character stuff if that particular
toon needs it or plans to use it.

I realize that's not a great answer for you now, but leaving stuff unclaimed
has been the most reliable way for me to know what specialty stuff I have
    on my various toons.

  24. I too am seriously against the buff pets being included on this list.

Yep, they die easy, and yep the bonus isn't all that much, but consider this:
The defense pet is 3% - the same amount that ppl will pay 2B+ for in IO-form.

No question, the IO has more going for it, but I have several characters (including
a PB) that use those pets, and once again, this is yet another dev change that
was poorly thought out, and even more poorly implemented.

I'm fine with a Vanity pet limit, but functional combat pets? No. Hell No.

  25. I've got several 50's including a few I don't play anymore, but I've never
deleted a 50 and don't plan to delete any.

I typically don't PL them, so they've usually got more than 100 hours in them,
and for that time investment, they've earned the character slot they're taking.

That's true even for the one L50 I really hate, although he was the closest
of all of them to ending up in the bit-bucket.

Instead, he's permanently retired unless I suffer a bout of masochism and grab
some iStuff for him in the hope that it would make it more enjoyable... Not
too likely (on either the masochism or enjoyment fronts).
