I think you are confused. TOs are training origins. Those are the things that lots of people don't even bother slotting.

Common IOs, on the other hand, are a great way to transfer inf to an alt. Once I get an alt into my SG base, she can simply stroll over the the 45-50 enhancement storage locker, pull out a few level 50 accuracy or damage IOs, and sell them on the market for 300k each. It's like my SG has a bank vault with all of my characters contributing.

it actually isn't on my list at all.

    seriously, what would this accomplish?

nerd A: hey guys, watch this!

---nerd A runs up the side of a building---

nerd B: whoa, that was cool!

nerd C: ok guys, you've been taking turns running up buildings for like 15 mins now...you wanna do some missions?
Sounds like what happens when someone is on the Frostfire map for the first time.
  5. Look at it this way: Level 1 is the only time you get TWO powers at one level. Think of it as an extra special BONUS reward. Fun!

If you don't want your secondary tier 1, just pretend you didn't get that bonus. Remove the icon from your tray and ignore it. Then when you hit level 2 you can take the tier 2 you wanted.
  6. Was there any more chat after BAB showed up?

I think the only pairing we can say is 100% correct would be Dominator=Controller.

The other 4 may or may not be so easy to answer. Especially for nubs like me.

In my nub brain, the other 4 pairings are as such:
    • Defender=Corruptor
    • Scrapper=Brute
    • Tank=Mastermind
    • Blaster=Stalker

So in a nutshell, it looks like epic pools will not change with respect to powers available. The Q, in my mind at least, is how the devs view each ATs counterpart.
I got the impression that they weren't planning on aligning each villain AT with a particular hero AT for APP powers (or vice versa). I figured they'd construct a new APP for each Villain AT and a new Patron Pool for each Hero AT. They wouldn't need to make new powers -- just use existing powers to fill the holes in the sets.
  8. You corrected the Bodyguard definition, but not the example you used.

"if you have one pet summoned and you and your pet get smacked with a 100-point AoE, you take 50 damage. Your poor pet takes 150!"

In actuality, you would take 67 and your pet would take 133

Otherwise, it's a good start to a comprehensive guide. The formatting is great and easy to read, and it is well organized and structured.

I'd think that you could flesh out the secondary section a bit even without having played them all -- especially if you have played other Masterminds in the past. What types of powers did you find yourself wishing you had? Did you find yourself using your heal frequently, or would a non-healing secondary (FF, Sonic, TA) do OK?

Also, can you describe the Demons' AI? Do they tend to favor Melee or Ranged? I think that Demons are the only MM set with significant cone attacks. Do you have to micromanage their positions a lot because of them?

    Thanks!

Yes, you can do this. It can be complicated and requires that you add some files to your COH folder, but it can be done.

    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=113746

The sounds you want to disable are:
    Folder name: Powers
    File name: teletrans3.ogg, teletrans4.ogg

You need to create a silent file in the .ogg format (instructions in the thread) and place two copies of that file in a folder named data\sound\Ogg\Powers in your CoH path. The two copies need to be renamed as teletrans3.ogg and teletrans4.ogg

And just so there is no confusion, the enhanceable part works when ANY teammates are in range, not just other shield users. Of course, it will mostly be melee types that are within 8' of you, but whoever they are they count.

  13. I am wondering what the mechanic for side switching will end up being. Will it be like KOTOR where you have a variety of missions and how you complete them gives you "points" towards being hero/villain? Or will it be more like EQ2 where you begin a side switching arc and by completing a set number of missions you just end up with changed faction?

The KOTOR method is less restrictive, but I really doubt if it will work that way. In this model, every decision moves you one way or another, but you could do a hundred missions and if you are wishy-washy on your choices you won't actually make any progress.

The EQ2 model would have a Hero go talk to a contact and begin an arc, and at the end of the arc *bing!* the Hero is a Vigilante.

I just came to this thread late, and have resisted jumping in on conversations that began months ago. However when I finished reading the thread, one thing jumped out at me. Not a single person defending Kheldians mentioned Peacebringers. It's all "Warshade this" and "Warshade that".

    Cut scene spam

I wasn't talking about the people who say "Hi mom!" once during a cutscene. Even though I have seen it before and am rarely amused by that type of thing, it doesn't bother me -- for basically the same reason everyone else stated: it's something to do during a boring bit of downtime.

But the title of this topic is "Cut scene spam". I was talking about the person who has to hit F7 a hundred times. Heck, they often haven't even changed the text from "Ready!"

I write binds specifically for some of them.

"So, what exactly does being Nictus do for you? Apart from wrecking your fashion sense, I mean."

"So you're Nictus now. I bet your momma's so proud."

"Megan tells Jack that the baby she's carrying isn't his. I Tivo'd it."

    "Smile! You're on Candid Camera!"
Once, cute. Filling my chat window, not so much. Running from the middle of a fight so you can beat out someone else in order to fill my chat window, idiotic.

    Cut scene spam

This was originally going to be a Player Question, until I realized it was more of a rant than anything else. So please feel free to ignore me as I blow off steam.

Why do people still think that it is clever to spam a "witty" phrase during a cut scene?

Last night we were engaging the group on the stairs in the final mission of the ITF. Just after we started the fight, one of the blasters flew past us towards Romulus. The tank decided to teleport after him and managed to trigger the cut scene first. He then proceeded to spam "Shut up, [censored]" about 50 times throughout the whole cut scene.

The blaster apparently had something else planned, because he insisted on repeating "Look ma, I'm in the cut scene!" about 10 times even though he wasn't visible. I get the feeling that he was mad at the tanker for stealing his spotlight.

Meanwhile, the rest of us were back on the stairs trying to hold together a fight with a couple of groups and an EB. It wasn't like we were in danger or anything, but it sure was annoying.

Do people honestly think they are being original or funny when they do that? We've seen it before.
  22. One additional bit of advice:

Please don't use the bind every time you cast Spectral Wounds. It gets really old playing with someone who uses a chat bind with a frequently cast power. You are best off using that kind of a bind when your teammates need to be informed of something (like when you have made an enemy intangible, or when you are about to cast a buff). If you have to do it with Spectral Wounds, save it for the boss, please.
  23. Also, you may want to post a message on your SERVER forum, found at the bottom of the forum list for your respective language (English in this case). The Player Questions forum is not a great place to advertise your planned supergroup. However, as you have found out, it is a wonderful place for learning more about the game.

Up until it was nerfed, AR had the best single target attack in the game; Ignite. Even after the nerf, it is really good on a DPA basis.

For my blaster when soloing, Sleep Grenade is an "I Win" button in every fight. Soloing +4/x1, I could sleep a spawn, then use Cryo Freeze Ray to hold one. Then I'd kill it and hold another. After the second enemy was dead, the third one was still asleep and I would hold and kill it at my leisure. With a tiny bit of global rech it is perma. It makes a great set mule, since purple Sleep IOs are fairly cheap. My solo build eventually became totally single-target focused, based almost solely on the ability to sleep spawns and kill them one at a time.

Yeah, my solo AR build has no Full Auto, no Flamethrower, no M30. Buckshot is a set mule. I can Slug, Burst, and Ignite in total safety while my enemies are slept and held.
