I have this friend-
Why does BOB need to lose the base? Just ignore it until it's time to go build it.
Dec out.
The "base" plot will still be there, with the name that Bob created (sg). And while Bob and his friends play (in sg mode) there will be generated prestige towards the time when it is time to make a base of the plot that Bob and his friends have gotten.

Yeah you can't drop it. Eventually you will lose access to it until you pay upkeep once you have enough cash.
There is no penalty for keeping the base around if you didn't want it anyway. You'll lose power and then you'll lose access, but if you didn't want it then neither of those is a problem.

As long there are no portals or salvage/enchantment/inspirations storage, there should be no upkeep fees.

I'm trying to get an actual feel for exactly what "BOB" wants here KW. If you are happy with your team mates and whatever name you chose then as mentioned until you are ready to base build just ignore it. No rent means no notices so it will just sit there until you decide to do something with it.
Now if part of Bob's problem is .. I like my team but we decided we hate the name we came up with! Simple .. everyone quits that SG and you start a new one. Sorry I have asked the question and no amount of begging, whinning, or moaning will get NC Soft to grant your present group a new one. Sounds like Bob's team is pretty new so if this is the issue just accept that you have lost whatever prestige was earned and start over.
Lets see everyone else did a great job on the love the team and name .. we don't like or need our base issue and that covers we messed up our name. I can't think of any other problem BOb may have so good luck. :-D

I like the name of Dies Irae. Like it very much as it is apocryphal and my character, Samson Moses, embodies the qualities of the Giver of Law, Moses and the Inhumanly strong Judge of Israel Samson. What buly fun to have a Biblical team without the posturing or sermonizing.
I am unsuccessful in getting team mates at my level (Currently 30). I want Blasters and Scrappers, a Defender and another tanker.
I want a team of heroes who can work well together and work for the good of the Team. They can work independantly or as a team. I have an empty baseplot and when the budget allows for phase one construction ( power installed and medical and workbench rooms established) is completed , my team(s) can build their own lodgings (within budget).
I have built bases for Champions the rpg, not the online system but nothing like what is available for COH. My team will provide input as to what is required for the base and their own personal habitats therein.
I am a retired State Supervisor (meaning I am not 20 years of age!) and enjoy City of Heroes as i am somewhat Home Bound.
I am also about 16 degrees of plumb, have a well defined sense of humor and really enjoy City of Heroes.

I thank you.

Teams are small groups of folks (8 max) that get together to run missions, sometimes they are in the same supergroup, but not always. Teams are often short-lived, spur of the moment or singly specific goal focused (task forces/raids), groups.
Supergroups are groups of players that play together often enough that they want an identity of their own (and a base to store stuff, transport, heal, & socialize). Supergroups can have 150 characters, often the alts of several players, at various levels. Supergroups often have longer term goals in terms of earning prestige & badges to improve the functionality of their base.

oh. Then in that case I want to lead a SUPERGROUP, probably not to the 150 person/creature mark, but a Supergroup nonethe less.
However I shall start small and join teams who need an efficient Magic Tanker for the nonce. Maybe after a year the jump to Supergroup can be made by this old campaigner.
Why?
Think of it as an Army of Superheroes, I mean a force where specific cities could have heroes on station, but at the call of Superiors. It makes for a flexible striking force. Ideally a SG led by one, with up to 4 Generals To lead up to three Captains who lead up to three Sergeants who run one 4 hero squad each.
Just a thought.
PS. My youthful zeal is testimony that i never truly 'grew up'. I tried growing up, but all I could get was Government Work. Peter Pan has KW Stryker envy I am told. This game, this City of heroes, is so enjoyable to exercise, i love it. I spend up 6 hours daily on it (yes, I am retired) and still have time to pay bills, go shopping, enjoy my other hobbies and taking naps**
*A big Plus for us seniors. I truly thank one and all for the information and advice. Should i invest in the Big player's Guide for COH? I found it on EBAY for under $15.00. Is it worth the investment?
That's all for now
Take care everybody-

Welcome to Paragon Hero!
Personally, I'd avoid buying any guides as the information contained within will soon be changed. Par for the course with MMO's being constantly updated. Unless you really just want the cool artwork and binder.
Truth is, you've already found the best place for guides.
This forum right here has a guides section and the player question section is full of helpful chaps.
As an aside let me supply you with some helpful links.
http://paragonwiki.com THE place for instant info. If you simply can't wait for a response from the forums your best bet to find the info you seek is here.
Cohplanner.com This link provides you with the wonderful hero builder program we call Mids. This allows you to plan out builds without being online. Also helpful to see when certain powers become available.

Buying guides for pretty much any MMO - don't do it. I mean, the old Prima guide (non-binder-bound paperback) is good for giggles, you can read what things were like in beta (such as the never-implemented Faultline trial, or Gravity controllers having Fold Space,) but it's roughly as out of touch with the current game as the graffiti the workers put on some ancient Egyptian monuments when they were built. Even the newer one - "designed to be updated continually!" - isn't. Guides have pretty much been dropped.
For guides, come here, or wander to Paragon Wiki (NOT the Wikia version! If you see Wikia, you're in the wrong place.)
Supergroup membership/leadership doesn't cut you out of running teams. You're not limited to running teams with just your supergroup or anything - so feel free to completely ignore your supergroup (well, other than running in supegroup *mode* so you get prestige built up for when you DO want to build that base.)
Also... don't advertise yourself as a magic tanker. Nothing wrong with it, mind you, but your origin (magic/science/natural/tech/mutant) has just slightly more impact on the game than what color hat you're wearing, if any. Normally just saying you're a tanker is fine. If anyone's curious, add your level, primary and secondary powerset. (for instance, my forum-namesake comes in multiple versions. Depending on where I am, as a tanker, I'd say I'm a 50 Fire/Super strength (SS,) 50 Fire/Energy Melee, or 26 Dark Armor/SS tanker... then again, I could be playing a non-tanker version!)
Just trying to help you sort out what info people are going to want when getting a team together. Then again, if you start the team... *shrug*

As others have said, the Forums are the best place for current information. I have written a couple of guides on Controllers, which are linked in my sig. Lots of other folks have written great guides to all aspects of the game. Paragonwiki is usually the best place to go as a reference source.
Go ahead and start your Supergroup, and make sure that you go into Supergroup Mode as you play your low-level hero or villain. There is no penalty to be in SG Mode in low levels. Once you reach the upper 20's and mid 30's, you start to have a bit of a reduction in Influence you earn as a trade-off to continuing to earn Prestige for your SG. On your first high-level hero or villain, you may want to exit SG Mode at around 30, since you tend to be a little low on Influence on your first character. (However, if you learn to "play the markets" to earn lots of Influence, then there is no need to turn off SG Mode.)
SG Bases are very handy. They provide storage for Enhancements, Salvage and Inspirations. You can put a Vault and an Inventions Table in your base, so you don't have to keep running back to a University. And one of the best things . . . you can install teleporters to help you get around the City more easily. I have my own base on several servers with various levels of Prestige -- a couple of them were someone else's SG and Base, but almost everyone else in the SG left the game leaving me with the leadership of the SG and Base. A couple of them I started with my group of regular buddies.
Try a lot of different characters. I started out with a scrapper, then tried a Blaster, then a Tank, and then a Defender. I thought I had found my favorite in the Defender . . . until I tried a Controller. The Controller became my first level 50 character and is still my favorite overall character. One friend of mine loves scrappers, and another loves Tanks, while a third loves Blasters. So, try them all for a while to see which you like best.
LOCAL MAN! The most famous hero of all. There are more newspaper stories about me than anyone else. "Local Man wins Medal of Honor." "Local Man opens Animal Shelter." "Local Man Charged with..." (Um, forget about that one.)
Guide Links: Earth/Rad Guide, Illusion/Rad Guide, Electric Control
Also, you may want to post a message on your SERVER forum, found at the bottom of the forum list for your respective language (English in this case). The Player Questions forum is not a great place to advertise your planned supergroup. However, as you have found out, it is a wonderful place for learning more about the game.

it's been a while here, but doesn't the initial base plot still have free upkeep? So as long as he never expanded it it won't even bug him about that.

If you can't find what you want to know on the Wiki site, then ask in these forums. If you ask politely you'll usually get an answer (probably 4-5 answers) in under an hour.
If it's in a book, it was 6-12 months out of date the day it was printed. It's definatly NOT worth the investment.
I gotta make pain. I gotta make things right. I gotta stop what's comin'. 'Least I gotta try.
While all these are correct, they've never squashed the bug where an unused base will suffer the "locked out-can't pay rent" bug. Yes, it still exists. However the easy fix for that is to /petition the base when it happens you want to actually use it and it hits you.
|
Haha, yeah, when I started playing CoH it was barely a year old, and I invested in the Prima guide It was already sadly out of date; reading it today would be akin to reading a book about the Old West. I rely heavily on the Wiki and these forums for info.
Also got that binder-centric guide for City of Villains, which I thought was a fairly elegant solution to the problem. But again, it eventually just served for something for my kid to page through when he couldn't play the game.
MA arcs: #1669, "A New Breed Rising"
Let's Call him "BOB". Well "Bob" filled out the paperwork at the registrars office in atlas park to start his own Team and the Chap offered a base and "Bob" said "YESS!!!" without thinking and now the old silly billy doesn't want his base, but does want to keep his team. Once his team builds up enough Prestige he will look into getting a base.
So how can "BOB' lose his base? Is there a way to void his ownership. What about just abandoning it. "Bob" is worried i, er he, will not be able to get rid of the unwanted base.
Thank You
