Cut scene spam
Cut scenes are serious business.
The best comics are still 10!

If you only read one guide this year, make it this one.
Super Reflexes: the Golden Fox of power sets!
WARNING: I bold names.
Guess they have the same mentality as the people that gotta say 'First' after a Dev/Mod post and the like. Never understood it, and to me annoying. I agree the battle cry spam during cut scenes are old.
I have gone to find myself. If I get back before I return, Keep me here!
I had a recent STF where a player spammed an entire poem during both the Aeon and LR cut scenes. It was a little annoying, but it's not like it caused a teamwipe.
Where to now?

don'T attempt to read tHis mEssaGe, And believe Me, it is not a codE.
Cut scene witticisms are passé; now we have players who attempt to teleport themselves into the cutscenes themselves.
I think it's a case of overfamiliarity, and the fact that it can be done. The first time Rommie's cutscene played it was pretty cool. The hundredth time ... not so much. And I've run more than a hundred ITFs.
I write binds specifically for some of them.
"So, what exactly does being Nictus do for you? Apart from wrecking your fashion sense, I mean."
"So you're Nictus now. I bet your momma's so proud."
"Megan tells Jack that the baby she's carrying isn't his. I Tivo'd it."
"Smile! You're on Candid Camera!"

The ITF cutscene works best if you trigger the area music at the same time - it makes it totally awesome

I still find it funny.

I'm not exactly captivated by watching Rommy do the Lightning Spaz Dance for the 500th time and I do think it's kind of neat that folks can insert themselves into the image (characters, not spam). Makes me wonder what the scene looks like from the "outside" as it were. The spam itself is kind of lame although it's not ruining anything for me. More of an eye-rolling cry for attention with a worn out joke.
But I agree that leaving a fight to race someone for the privilege of spamming the cut scene is really stupid.
Y'know, you could always beat them at their own game:
Make your own hotkey that says "Spam during a cutscene?!? THAT'S original."
Maybe follow it up with, "Okay, I get it, you're 12 years old. Enough spam, already." or such.*
*Use of these suggestions may result in being kicked from team, receiving rude tells, or generally being shunned by teammates. Do not use suggestions if you are are taking other silly ideas seriously. If you are pregnant or nursing, please see a doctor before trying suggestions. It's all a Nemesis Plot.

Why do people still think that it is clever to spam a "witty" phrase during a cut scene?
|
Because we can't skip them and after the hundredth-plus time of seeing Dr. Aeon act malevolently, it's gone way past being old.
Blue: ~Knockback Squad on Guardian~
Red: ~Undoing of Virtue on [3 guesses]~
I don't mind when someone quips something witty during the scene (emphasis: actually witty), especially if it relates to the scene itself. Something stupid gets an eyeroll; spamming the same line as fast and you can hit the button makes me wish I could reach through the internet and strangle them.
The ITF isn't the only example. I know I've played around putting myself in Night Widow Nocturne's cutscene in the "Draw Out Nocturne" mission:
Wolf Spider Assault: Ma'am! There's nothing here, but Jenkins said he saw Fleeting Whisper!
Fleeting Whisper: *wave*
Night Widow Nocturne: Fleeting Whisper! It's a trap!
Operative Jenkins: Um... guys? I'm waaaay over here, on the other side of the building. I haven't seen hide nor hair of that Fleeting Whisper dude...

To people who engage in this practice:
I honestly can't remember a cutscene task force recently where someone wasn't spamming the channels. It's like a hundred brat kids are telling you the same stupid knock-knock joke over and over and over. It's not cute. It's not funny. It's not clever. It's not original. Trust me, you are not the one gem of a cutscene spam comic in the midst of all of the spam dregs. And yes, I've seen entire spam conversations. And yes, I've seen people in cutscenes doing elaborately planned out "skits," complete with emotes and everything. If that's not impressive to me, trust me, you sure as hell aren't.
Personally, I'd love it if they completely silenced all team, broadcast, and local chat for however long the cutscenes last, it irritates me that much. I know they won't do it, because it falls into the realm of not really causing any harm, but it annoys me enough that I'd still like it nonetheless.
Cutscene spam was clever exactly one time.
/my humble opinion, I realize I'm probably in a minority.
We've been saving Paragon City for eight and a half years. It's time to do it one more time.
(If you love this game as much as I do, please read that post.)
i've occasionally made binds for the cutscenes, but it's not a phrase spammed over and over. Usually, if i bother at all, it's some sort of comment about how the NPC's always get to hog all the cutscenes, or something about how we get that they're totally badass camera hogs, but could they just wrap it up so that we can get down to kicking their *****?
Which is something that does not lend itself to spamming.
During the final Rommy battle i tend to comment on his obsession with real estate.
Romulus: Your lands are mine for the taking!
Me: What's with the real estate obsession? It's not always that good of an investment.
Dr. Todt's theme.
i make stuff...
Well, I see no problem on doing it once.
But spams arent fun...
Most of my toons have one little something to say on a cutscene, but I only do it once.
(((and most of those little things are really little things... like Shockwave Neko... who only says a single Meow!)))
But out of cutscenes... I am evil... My toons talk a lot. Dozens of different macros, each to one specific circunstance, waiting for the moment when a... well... victim... gives then the chance to talk...

All of my toons have CTRL+N bound to "team Hi, Mom!" and CTRL+M bound to "team Is this thing on?" -- I typically push one or both during a cut scene, even if I'm solo, but only once... mostly to amuse myself, I don't care about the rest of the players' opinions on it. It amuses me. Additionally, if a person isn't spamming the bind seventeen times, other people's custom binds amuse me as well.

Cutscene comments are best when they're accidental. The best one I ever saw had a player levelling just as we reached Rommy, and just as he shouts, "I AM NICTUS!!!", the text bubble of someone responding to the corruptor levelling pops up:
"gratz"
We just about teamwiped because we were howling with laughter at the coincidence of it.

The funniest thing I've seen with regards cutscenes was a /traps defender on a LRSF being inside the Lord Recluse speech cutscene, paused just after he'd set up a mine, so he was doing the kneeling down pose while Lord Recluse stood ontop of his mine while preaching how foolish WE were.
Erm...look down mate...might want to see what's going on at your feet.
Also had my neon pink forcefield pet bubble as my own Traps defender highly visable in the background of the Rommy to nictus cutscene...somewhat killed the epiciness with this hot pink bubble glowing away in the background.
This was originally going to be a Player Question, until I realized it was more of a rant than anything else. So please feel free to ignore me as I blow off steam.
Why do people still think that it is clever to spam a "witty" phrase during a cut scene?
Last night we were engaging the group on the stairs in the final mission of the ITF. Just after we started the fight, one of the blasters flew past us towards Romulus. The tank decided to teleport after him and managed to trigger the cut scene first. He then proceeded to spam "Shut up, [censored]" about 50 times throughout the whole cut scene.
The blaster apparently had something else planned, because he insisted on repeating "Look ma, I'm in the cut scene!" about 10 times even though he wasn't visible. I get the feeling that he was mad at the tanker for stealing his spotlight.
Meanwhile, the rest of us were back on the stairs trying to hold together a fight with a couple of groups and an EB. It wasn't like we were in danger or anything, but it sure was annoying.
Do people honestly think they are being original or funny when they do that? We've seen it before.
