  1. Essentially, when you're attacked, the system checks against positional and typed damage, whichever is higher is the one that gets rolled against. So if you've got 45% melee damage and 25% smashing/lethal and a cimeroran takes a swipe at you, it will roll against your positional defense.

Shield Defense is a positional defense set, in contrast, invulnerability is a typed defense set. That means that you should slot for melee/range/AoE defense on a shield toon and ignore your typed defense as your positional defense should always be higher.

Edit: Wiki link that gives some basics: http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Defense

This I didn't know... I will need see if I need to rework my own build.
  3. Aid self and aid other are not worth the power seletion. Pick up manuevers and tactics instead. drop two slots from weave and 6 slot tactics instead with gaussians. get another lotg rechg in manuevers and a second slot if you've got it for lotg def/end. cobra strike, if I remember, is intended as a stun and is pretty low damage, not worth a full set of mako's. deslot that power in favor of maybe 6 slotting dodge with red fortune for the range def boost. if you've extra slots, 5 slot tough with aegis and 1 slot for steadgast's def for more AoE def. At work as well so just some cursory suggestions. I see you didn't take elude... consider that instead of cobra strike but that depends on playstyle.

I perosnally slot my SR for 50% since there is no resistance backup so if you're fighting anything higher level, the extra def pays off.

Edit: Take one slot out of stamina and two slot performance shifter, the end mod and the proc, I think you will get better results that way.

Edit 2: Do not slot fly with fly speed... or the kb protection. I think those slots are better served elsewhere. Use the auto slot for end reduction cause I think fly speed is capped with a flight speed in swift, but someone can correct me here.
  4. Oh boy, you're killing yourself on enhancements... I've made a build and moved some power choices around that is more akin to my playstyle... so this is just something I'd recommend as a starting point. I wouldn't focus on s/l def as you can resist most of that away, instead focus on the other damage types for defense. Also, HP and regen are WP's strong points and should probably give those some appreciation. That makes your auto accolades more important than ever on WP (Full disclosure: I don't play DB so keep that in mind on this build):

    Sound FXs...

Let me preface this by saying, I have played with no game sound for almost 3 years now. I often will have some podcast or the TV or some other internet radio station going while playing...

Having said that, I was struggling to find a glowie in a mission and broke down and turned the sound FX on so I could hear the familiar pulse when you get close. Found the glowie, completed the mission and alted characters... but didn't turn the sound FX back down.

I logged into an alt who happened to be in the first ward parked for a day job... standing on a air vent system on the roof of a building.

I was impressed by the sound FX I was hearing. It was simple yet true to what I would expect a roof vent to sound like. I literally imagine some intern standing outside the NCSoft building next to an air conditioner with a boom mic, "Is that close enough?" "No, no, no. Get it right next to that vent that's next to the 'ol paint ball stain."

More to the point, it sounds great as silly as that sounds, no pun intended. I just wanted to give all the sound folks a high five here and say that I noticed and it sounded really... great. <high five>
  6. Just a quick few notes here. Ran the new trial once on my badger and league full of experienced badgers and here are my thoughts. Please add any suggestions as you see fit. I will probably add more notes as I run it more.

First and foremost, getting in to the trial seemed to be the most difficult part of the whole trial. Though, I'm sure the Devs are aware of the slowness and strange artifacts and this is just a matter of getting all the squeaks out of the new issue.

The run itself seems pretty straight forward and seems reasonable to get most of the prerequisite badges on normal or speed runs.

The first badge, Rescued and Recovered is the badge that takes the most planning. Easy enough to sweep through all three markers on the map to clear mobs, break the league into four teams and make assignments and just pound the spikes. You've got to defeat 4 of them within 1 minute of the first being defeated. 1 minute is a lot of time and wouldn't be surprised if a stacked speed team couldn't do it just hopping form one spike to the next.

The second badge, Sentinel Smasher takes a little forethought... rush and crush doesn't quite work. Just call out the names and have league mates follow the leader around or their team lead to the designated marker. Just have to make sure you release the right heroes: Positron or Valkyrie, Manticore or Aurora, Synapse or Ms. Liberty, and BABs or Mynx. No particular order necessary.

Third badge, Sacrificial Lamb, and fourth badge, Life and Death, are a earned with the same task... defeating Diabolique. Basically, have everyone focus on Diabolique except a few folks with range attacks. Every 30 seconds, little green will 'o wisps spawn called Lifegiving Essence. Create the following macro:

    /macro tar targetcustomnear lifegiving

Make sure everyone with range powers has it and uses it. You have to defeat every one before the counter in the league window hits zero and another set respawns. Keep in mind that multiples spawn and they are pretty weak (for 50+3). I'm not sure how many spawn but they like to hide. I believe three spawn every thirty seconds but someone correct me here if I'm wrong. Do not attack the heroes she has with her. They are pretty durable so AoEs aren't a real threat but they have health bars in the trial window so always keep an eye on it... if they start going down faster then Diabolique then cut out uncontrollable pets and AoEs, including judgements.

I say this like it's simple and straight forward, which it is, given that you are with a group of players who are generally will practiced and are all tier 3 and at least marginally well slotted. The less of that that is true, the more difficulty you will have.

Hope this helps and please let everyone know if you find other strategies that seem to work better.

BTW, thanks to globe and zombie man... I did some cutting and pasting from here.

Illustrating a point again. Players won't get the rewards if they don't do the task, regardless of their reasoning. No comparison between the tasks was intended outside of that.

I didn't say people who use the word "fair" are in kindergarten. Words are important in a medium that is completly dependent on them. I'm merely suggestiing that folks should choose wisely their words in order to ensure that they point they are making comes across accurately and succinctly. I'm not perfect by any stretch of the imagination but I was only trying to inform how it came across.

You don't like trials => you don't do trials => you don't get rewards. Seems more than fair to me... in fact, that seems completely reasonable and down right logical. Try this one:

    I don't like Task Forces => I don't do Task Forces => I don't get Task Force Commander Accolade.
    That also seems fair...

There are 6 (7 now) trials. One speed run through each trial will generally yield unlocks of the first two incarnate powers, interface and judgement. A second run through will yield unlocks of the remaining two slots, lore and destiny (Alpha unlock is ignored here since all that is required is one arc in Ouro to unlock). My experience has been that I receive enough astrals, emperians and threads to slot each power to tier 3. Two run throughs of 6 different trials doesn't sound like farming/grinding to me.

I'm not sure how "fair" works into this at all... or who actually determines "fairness." Perhaps you should use "reasonable" instead:

I don't think it's fair that there is a solo path at all but I understand the desire for one and think that having one is a reasonable compromise. It's not fair becuase I busted my hump getting 25 level 50s to tier three on all their incarnate slots by forming leagues, training folks on how to do trials, and basically streamlining the whole trial process for my leagues. Is it fair that someone can come along and get the same rewards without doing the leg work? No, I don't think so. I also don't think it's fair that people come on trials and leech and never run one themselves but are more than happy to ciriticize me and my cohort on how we do things. But I understand that it's reasonable for someone who may not have the inclination or the desire to lead to be a member of my league. I believe it's reasonable for someone without good people skills or who is nervous about running leagues to not want to lead them.

Completely different tone between "reasonable" and "fair." Either we are having a grown up conversation or we're in kindergarten... your choice.
  11. I vote making the set a more run and gun set... no more rooted (or less rooted) on all the powers, to me that would make the set much more playable.

That's an unfortunate position to take on a profession that can potentially bring in more players to an MMO that presumably you enjoy to play and part of that enjoyment is a direct result of the player base. I've said to many people in passing conversation that CoH needs to hire -more- marketing people as I see lots of opportunities that are being ignored or are being poorly used. I suppose it's all a matter of perspective.

    TPN Crash BUG

There are many things people try to prevent the issue. I've heard MM pets need to be disbanded, no one can be jumping up and down when the TP triggers, etc. I'm not sure whats causing it but I am confident that it is none of these things. I would think it's much more subtle than that. While you can spin around your chair three times and say the alphabet backwards if you think it helps or your league leader commands it, I'm doubtful these suggestions are helping in any meaningful way.

Fair point, data would still be a proxy. I would posit that data from that site is a much better proxy than prices as there are fewer variables to skew the data (Set bonuses, pricing issues, avaibility, F2P restrications, etc.) that are unrelated and unmeasureable to AT choice. Having 89k+ data points seems reasonably sized data set to draw basic conclusions on relative popularity. Access to site is restricted only by awareness.
  16. Not intending to punt here but I recommend you test it on your personal build and playstyle. You will be losing a lot of end mitigation but I believe that for most toons, agility can replace cardiac with no ill effects to end consumption.

Be sure to pay attention to the secondary boosts. Depending on your power choices, the res buffs will be more helpful on EA than will the def buffs. However, if you've taken things like maneuvers and CJ and stealth, you may get a comprable jump in def that will offset the loss of res. This can be measured with mids if you've not done that yet.

Recharge is the secondary buff that I like the most out of agility... all toons can use more recharge.
  17. Praetoria is harder... Dual Pistols is a low damage, long animation set and defenders have a severe damage penalty to boot.
  18. Elec armor >> Invul hands down. Invul has a huge psi gab and typed defense is expensive to set out.

Actually it is called a false promise. The description of the boost claims one thing. The results show another.
Your results are self described as not actually results so no promises have been shown as false.

It's not your responsibility at all and to pretend like what you're presenting is meaningful in any way actually has a strong potential to cheat other players. It is apparent to me that you are presenting qualitative (used -extremely- loosely here) as quantitative results which actually is insulting to everyone's intelligence.

Here is the deal Snow Globe, you are doing a disservice to the player base. Feel free to express your opinion and talk about how it seems or feels like you're not getting a fair shake on your windfalls but to present "data" as you've done here is just a farce serves only to distract and misinform.

The developers are able to data mine on a global scale and have made percentage changes globally... does that mean that you're going to get more all the time? No, you are not guaranteed anything... it's all drop rates and percentages and random rolls, which is, like it says... RANDOM. Of course, if you had a real sample size, this would all flesh out as others have suggested which you have summarily dismissed with a wave of your digital hand.

Is the rest of the high level this stupid now?
As others have pointed out, maximizing rewards often dictates moving through the TF as quickly as possible to maximize reward per unit of time. WST rewards often enunciate this issue as it doubles the reward making the TF more worthwhile to run.

Consider that most people can only play for a limited amount of time and for those who want to progress their character in strength, that often means choosing the activity that is most efficient which most would argue is a speed WST or speed trial.

Of course, there are lots of goals that players will have that will require other types of play, you may just need to look a little harder or form your own TFs/trials to shoot for these alternate goals.

Additionally, I don't think I would consider the ITF to be "high level," since the TF will allow any toon 35+ to participate. I would encourage you to run the TF on a sub 50 team of toons with only SOs or generic IOs, I would wager that you will find the TF much more challenging.

I suggest you adjust your perception of what "high level" content is as toons are now allowed to level to essentially 51 everywhere and 53 in certain instances. In the same sense that I don't expect a level 10 toon to street sweep mobs in Atlas Park, I also wouldn't expect a 51 to stop and worry about level 48 mobs.
  23. Go go gadget badges! Good luck CM!
  24. I've not paid attention on whether this has changed or not but the fastest way to get it would be through arena gladiator farming. You have to get the longbow gladiator through PvP rep first though... but if you're badging, you're gonna have to get it anyway.

    So:
    1. get disruptor badge via 400 PvP rep -- awards Longbow Warden 2 gladiator badge
    2. set gladiators to three longbow warden 2s and as many other glads as you can... 4 or 5 more, don't remember which.
    3. form arena gladiator match with someone else set to some non-timed event. You should get the badge in two to three weeks.

This is all assuming that this is still possible. Been probably 2 years since I've seen this done. The longbow wardens will just sit there with an AoE heal. Just put all your glads on passive. The more people you can get in there with you on your team will only make it go faster. So an 8 v 1 glad match with you on the 8 man team will have your longbow wardens healing all the glads on your side.
