I mainly go Sands of Mu too, mostly due to its faster activation time (although this is traded off for the rooting animation). The exceptions tend to be on characters when they deal out Negative Energy damage. My D3 has Dark Blast so foes that resist Negative Energy Damage are a pain to deal with (Banished Pantheon, Ghosts, Circle of Thorns etc). However, most of the foes that do resist it are, surprise surprise, undead! And thats when having the Ghost Slaying Axe really rocks.
Plus it looks cool and hangs around for a while after drawing it out which earns it bonus points in my book. -

Hi folks.
I'm curious about something that could be construed as a bug. However, I'm not sure if I've missed something.
IIRC, the Ouroboros portal temp power was assigned to any character who had experienced time travel in the course of their adventures. However, the other day on my MM, after having gained access to Cimerora and travelled back to meet Imperious, I noted that no shiny Ouroboros portal had appeared in my tray. (She's never done any time travel arcs, so has never gained it.)
So here's the question: Does travelling to Cimerora not count as time travel to the Menders or has there been some clever explanation weaved around it that I'm not aware of. I note that Montague states that the crystal going to Cimerora circumvents Ouroboros, but that doesn't seem to have stopped them handing out the power to other time travel events.
Any ideas? -

I feel your frustration. The lack of villain RP is frustrating, mainly due to villains not playing well together as Shadowe points out. The Clocktower was a great idea but never quite established a regular meeting or a purpose for being there. There was also the fact that it ran alongside the Galaxy Girl meet so there was always competition for players if you will.
As for villain RP groups, The Cadre has just started, a bunch of crooks blackmailed into working together by some shadowy overlord. Their boss holds some incriminating evidence on all of them, thus overcoming the problem of an IC reason to work together. They dont really want to but do so under duress. Its early days, but it seems to have worked so far.Hopefully in time well be in a position to oppose some of the established hero groups, maybe even indulging in some RP-PVP if were lucky.
I think the Corporation is still running as far as Im aware but its hard to tell from the stickied list at the top of this forum whos still running and who isnt.
If the Clocktower was to restart, Id definitely try to get along to it where I could. -

Granite need a long hard look at too.
[/ QUOTE ]
Could you expand on why please? I've seen Granite Tankers faceplant a few times and the -damage, -speed and -recharge would seem to be a suitable penalty for staying in that armour all the time.
However I agree on a TA buff. As much as I'd like to play my TA/Arch, compared to what other Defender sets can do, it does lack somewhat. -
I think youre right, Regen does seem a lot more balanced these days. It has its downsides as every armour should so I hope it gets left alone.
Granite Armour and Footstomp would worry me, given that Im concentrating on my Stone/SS Tanker at the moment. I think Granite already has sufficient penalties for remaining in it which admittedly can be slightly mitigated by full IO builds. As someone who only has a passing interest in the Inventions system, Id hate to see a nerf to tackle IO builds that penalises those without them. Hopefully the Devs are a little more astute than that. Changing Granite for example to a Click rather than a Toggle would cause me to scream from the rooftops. And as for Footstomp, is it really that good? I look forward to getting it but it certainly doesnt seem to be uber from what Ive seen in teams. I reckon that changes to SS might be to prevent Rage stacking and maybe something on Knockout Blow, either a reduction in damage or removing the Hold effect. But as someone who hasnt played EM or Stone Melee, I cant really compare. I guess well see.
I know theres a lot of balancing left to be done, but I too hope that the days of heavy nerfing are over with and that all that needs doing are tweaks rather than massive change. Fire Blast is certainly swift and damaging so maybe it is a case of animation times rather than recharge times as you suggest. I certainly hope so anyway. -

Especially as several of us have made suggestions with no feedback from any rednames...

Redname comments on player suggestions are quite rare. Don't hold your breath. But don't let that stop you making them either.
The only question I'd like to ask is: Given that Necro MMs recently had a fix applied to the Grave Knights so that they favour melee, will we be seeing a similar fix applied to the Bruiser in Thugs? Please please please please!
Oh and say hello to them all and let War Witch know that I still enjoy playing my Canadian hero. -

For that reason I think CoH's fixed L50 level cap, and the strong encouragement to play alts when you get there, is largely responsible for the strong friendly community here and the games strong subscriber retention - by pushing players into creating new alts rather than sticking with one character you feed a lot of veterans back into the lower levels, where they meet new players, pass on in-game knowledge, form new friendships and strengthen the community - this doesnt happen much on the raid/grind MMOs that constantly raise level caps annually and most of them have terrible communities.

This is an odd question and one that Im hoping will garner some interesting answers rather than just another conversation complaining about nerfs. The EM nerf was the first one thats hit me hard in over 30 months of playing. I didnt take it well at first but Ive adjusted and moved on. However, I have noticed a lot of changes recently in the name of game balance and while I expect most of these are due to NCNC taking over the IP, Im aware that there are probably more on the way. Already the US boards are awaiting a nerf to Regen and to Super Strength (plus possibly Willpower) and it does make me somewhat nervous about rolling any alts that use these sets in case massive changes are made to them in the future.
I like both powersets for concept reasons, not necessarily because theyre overpowered. Super Strength is a comic book staple, as common as invulnerability. Whereas I find Regeneration a great concept too and makes for an exciting and varied playstyle. I feel no need to stack Rage and Regen, although great, doesnt feel as overpowered as some people make out. So I guess my question is this: Are these sets over powered? If so, why? Are there any other sets out there that are considered game-breakingly powerful?
Ok, so that was three questions, not one. But assuming that no-one here has psychic powers for real and can tell what the Devs are up to, what other changes do you think that we should anticipate? What powers are just waving their little flags and waiting to be nerfed? And (without wanting to start a fight) do they deserve them?
Thanks for your opinions. -
*Applauds*
I like this a lot. If we can go to other dimensions and time zones, then globe-trotting should be a doddle.
The instances would probably not look much like where they're supposed to be (too much developer time) but I can live with that. Nice idea. -

Now, if I was Mender Silos, and looking to set up an organisation that existed outside of the timestream, a similar set up would be quite appealing. Itd probably be impossible to create a base outside of time so a pocket dimension would do just as well.

Black Dwaves live on Pulsars etc... -
Hmmm good speculation people. I certainly agree that using the same tileset saves on developer time.
As far as I can remember (although I cant find confirmation of this) Pocket D is an abbreviation of Pocket Dimension, a small hideaway, kept separate from the universe by big dimensional engines (go figure). So DJ Zero sets up this crossroads for travellers that can be accessed by various portals around the world which means that virtually anyone can visit the club.
Now, if I was Mender Silos, and looking to set up an organisation that existed outside of the timestream, a similar set up would be quite appealing. Itd probably be impossible to create a base outside of time so a pocket dimension would do just as well.
As for the Pillars of Ice and Flame Theres a quote somewhere (dont ask me where, I cant recall right now) that says that if you show technology to a primitive culture, theyll regard it as being magic. I think the reason for the Pillars appearance is a reference to this idea, that although they are machines, we are too primitive right now to understand it so it appears as magic to us. Either that or sometime in the future, the disciplines of magic and science are reunited (the Midnighter arc seems to suggest this).
And Silos? Well havent you looked back over your life and regretted some of your choices? Maybe someone or something made him change his mind? -
You know, this post has made me look at my list of roleplayed characters and made me question just how many of them are natural born American citizens. Answer: Not many!
Id offer Revenant Star for Jury service but hes already been part of the Freak Out event so hed probably be a bad choice. Instead I can offer the fruit loop that is Stygian Minx for jury duty if you need. -

I really, really want to love the zombies. I've tried three Necromancers in my time, one Necro/Dark, one Necro/FF and my latest Necro/Storm. No matter what I do, they remain squishy and slow. Compared to something like Thugs, they really are not as good as they could be.
But at least they're still better than Mercenaries. -
Thanks for those, much appreciated. Having no -KB on Tentacles is a bit of a blessing and a curse. Means I can't use Torrent as much as an attack power but will make Freezing Rain nice and effective. I'm almost tempted to let out a 'Mwa ha ha' type laugh.

Hi folks
For a bit of fun last night, I rolled a Dark/Storm Corruptor and had a lot of fun in a random group. Having now sat down to plan out a build, I suspect it could be quite powerful. Two knockback powers, three stun powers and a generally debuffiness to the sets would seem to mesh nicely.
However, Im wondering whether the Knockback, Knockdown and Immobilize are going to work well together or whether theyre just going to constantly overcome each others effects. In short, will the Dark Primary bring a bit of control to the chaos that is Storm? Or is it going to be a mess no matter what I do?

Group Name: The Cadre
Server/Game: Union - CoV
Theme: A small group of villains employed by the mysterious Mr Mason who frequently tasks them to complete errands for him. The feel is a low-key, mainly empowered criminals who are used to the underground so uber-powerful space aliens from Dimension X may not fit too well.
Webpage: www.themilitia.org.uk (separate forum on the site)
Contacts: @Romanov, @Dante
Usual Activities: Mainly in-game missions, RP as well as forum RP and discussion. Some IC PvP opposing Hero groups is planned.
Other Activities: Early days so far but some SFs will occur in the future plus hopefully some plots that will bring us into conflict with the do-gooders.
Background & Structure: No-one knows much about Mr Mason, who he is or where he can be found. But he is well informed, resourceful and appears to have a wealth of lawyers at his disposal. In order to secure his interests in the Etoile Isles, he brought together a group of criminals by incentive and blackmail to serve him and act as his hand within the Isles. Robberies, Assassinations, Kidnappings, nothing is above The Cadre as long as it serves Masons interests. Each member, whether they serve willingly or under duress, is capable of acting independently and have been charged with making The Cadre a name to be feared. The Cadres escape from the Zig is told here: http://uk.boards.cityofvillains.com/show...e=1#Post1077914 and here: http://uk.boards.cityofvillains.com/show...e=1#Post1103585
The team is led by mercenary turned Arachnos double-agent Nadja Romanov and militant Mutant rights activist Third Degree Byrne. Although they are ostensibly in charge even they are often unprepared for what they are ordered to do by Masons suited lackeys.
The group operate a base beneath the newly opened strip club The Devils Candy in Port Oakes. The club, situated in the meat packing district, serves as a front for the Cadres activities as well as providing a place to relax. Hidden beneath it is a dingy base designed to be practical without being fancy. A full description of the base can be found here: http://www.themilitia.org.uk/viewtopic.php?t=556
Admission Notes/Requirements: Enthusiasm, participation and the desire to be evil. Were immersionist roleplayers so our characters have lives outside of when we meet up and our actions will have consequences. Although the Cadre are undoubtably evil, theres no need to go growling at heroes in Pocket D for no good reason. Applicants should contact the group leaders and be prepared for a trial period before full membership is granted. -
I was exceptionally anal about where I dinged. Even though I had farm invites coming out of my ears, I wanted my first 50, and on my signature character no less to be in good company, with friends, having fun.
We duly did that taking down Chimera and his cronies. It was an awesome night. -

As someone who loves the Dark, yes to all of these. I already have a Dominator planned around this sort of idea, I'll be curious to see if it happens. You do know that Mercy will be flooded with Dark/Elec Dominators though, all wanting to be The Emperor. -
I think Ive got about 30+ months vet awards somewhere. But theres still plenty to do. I have never:
- Got past level 33 on Villains
- Done any Villain strike forces
- Done the States TF, Katie TF or the LGTF
- Got a complete Invention set
- Spent more then five minutes in a PvP zone
- Played a Stalker or Corrupter past level 10
- Had a Gladiator competition with the badge pets
- Gone into The Hive
- Never seen Hamidon
- Never done a Hamidon raid of any kind
- Never done the Eden Trial
- Fully IOed a toon
And probably many more. -
Welcome aboard! There's still quite an active roleplay community here on Union and pretty much everyone is friendly and welcoming. A lot of RP occurs in Supergroups although there are plenty of open social events around as well such as Pocket D and Galaxy Girl (behind Hero Corps in Galaxy City from about 9pm I think). Also if something here on the boards takes your fancy, sending a participant a Private Message does no harm.
Feel free to stop by the Militia forums ( www.themilitia.org.uk ) to say hello although most of our boards are hidden unless registered to prevent spammers.
