The Trial of Edward Johnson ((OOC setup))

This is in regards to what Ed did in the Freak out 2 topic. He clearly used excessive force on the Freakshow he encountered and thus Kata is going to have to bring him in.

We have our defence lawyer, kindly played by Cactus Brawler.

We need our (secretly a Nemesis Automaton) Prosecution lawyer to be played by someone.

We have Cassandra who will be playing our judge.

We also need a few people for the jury, character witnesses and the like. So please sign up, specifying which role you want to fill.

Of course those who are not character witnesses can not know Ed so people who do know him will be required to play alts.

The Jury will get to decide Eds fate, guilt or not guilty so if your in the Jury you actually get a say in how my character develops after the trial, is he guilty as charged and sentanced to time in the Zig or was it a case of something else and he will be set free?

I'll sign Enlightened Falcon up for the jury, he doesn't know Ed, but if you can find no one else to do the prosecuor I can switch and do that

signing up to be the judge, as a new character if necessary, what with my main toon not being a judge...

Rex Awesome here. Attorney at law, specializing in Meta-human law.

Already got the main stab of the defense sorted, working on getting it proper good!

Can sign up for the Jury with Soaring Horizon.

Or I can happily see about setting someone up for prosecution! If you can't find anyone willing.

Neither of my mains are suitable for jury duty (not being US citizens and all that), however I would be happy to do this (because damn me it looks fun).

I have a suitable character, I think. She's a virtual unknown, having appeared for RP precisely THREE times. The only thing I'm concerned about is a possible conflict of interests (my memory is not what it once was) - has Ed ever met Liz Ross? (I really want to get involved in this, and might be able to come up with another character... somewhere...)

I don't think Ed has met her to be honest and if he has, well she definitely wouldn't be classed as someone he 'knew' in the style of the rest of the GG crowd.

Any other takers, need a few character witnesses that can be called up.

We still need someone to play the prosecution.

Please, please, please, don't anyone even remotely suggest that Samantha Huntington would be a good character witness... I can see it now...

<Misty fade to courtroom scene...>

"Miss Huntington, how long have you known the accused?"

"Oh, a year or so, now."

"And would you say that he is generally a stable person?"

"Well, other than the huge personality shifts he sometimes exhibits, coupled with the fact that he used to be a villain, I'd have to say that he's a wonderful man. Quite cute, too."

"Ahem. So, you're saying that the accused has been known to exhibit changes to his personality in the time that you have known him?"

"Yes."

"And have any of these shifts been violent?"

"Not that I can recall. Mostly they're just because he's feeling horny, as far as I can tell. He turns into a right monster at times like that."

Might be fun to bring Sam in then Shadowe

Depending on the events of the sewers. You could always have Wild Red as a material witness. Although she would have to be there by force, being a bad girl and all

While I wouldn't argue with Richard or Sam being called as a character witness (Dear Lord, imagine what it would be like if Richard were there for that, with an attractive female barrister or judge... heaven help us!), if I get jury duty (which would be my preference), I would have to avoid doing so, I think, in the interests of not panicking and trying to think like 2 characters at once (which is hard enough when it's Rich and Sam, or Rich and Helena, but Rich and Liz? Youch, it would all go wrong).

The main reason for doing this (besides being a good idea for a plotline, it is a classic comic book storyline, hero on trial) is to show that nobody is above the law. Mind you if Ed hadn't been followed he would have gotten away with it since he would have left no witnesses but as it is, a police officer following him, well it's pretty much a given.

Oh and Shadowe, you've been given Jury duty, so follow the words of the hitchhickers guide and 'don't panic'.

Ellie likes Ed mostly, and gets on with him; but it'll be a cold day in hell before she willingly enters a courtroom again.

I just happen to have an attractive female lawyer knocking around if Shadowe should need terrorising

Don't think I'm getting involved in this though. Safer that way.

Just to check were using meta-human//sci-fi/comic book law?

I'm not going to have to get a RL law degree am I?

Brawling Cactus from a distant planet.

that I doubt cactus (well hopefully things should pan out that you don't need a law degree unless whoever is playing the prosecution decides to get all technical)

You REALLY shouldn't have said that, Doc...

Can't we just do this as an interesting ethical discussion and intrigue plot, and not some rather dry legal wrangling story?

Not that it's mine to dictate! But getting technical is gonna be really dull :/

Oh I don't mean I'm going to! I just know what people here can be like when someone says something like that!

I should just roll the proecution lawyer shouldn't I? >.>

Theres no way I know anything about law so we should both be safe and keep it as a simple disucssion plot.

Oh well so much for hard choices for EF >.<
