  1. I was playing my level 28 Grav/Ice dominator the other day and noticed that I could not hold a Fortunata no matter what I did. I stacked my single target hold at least 4 times with Domination up, and she was still attacking me.

So, do Fortunatas just have ridiculous hold protection, or do they have a form of defiance?

I tested multiple times, they were ALL like that. If it's a bug it is an all-inclusive one. It is damn frustrating to go through a mission with no problems and then get killed from full health by a single yellow LT with no backup.
  2. *shrug*

A cyborg concept can be literally anything.

My claws/regen is a cyborg. His arms and legs are completely robotic, only his torso is still human. His claws were originally a titanium/ceramic composite and installed in his forearms. He later got an upgrade to energy blades. His regeneration comes from advanced nanomachines that can repair both organic and inorganic material. He's Science origin.

Not trying to rain on your parade or anything, but cyborgs can be described as anything.

I'd say roll both the blaster and the corruptor, possibly as mirror images of each other. The Bane really doesn't fit your concept very well.
  3. I already did. Hence this:

  4. I put every porter in redside. Honestly, there's only like 8, so it wasn't that big of a deal to put all of them in with our small SG. I started with Mercy, Port Oakes, Cap, and Sharkhead.
  5. Our dog Jade passed away suddenly Saturday night. She was fine Friday, running around in the yard like a nutcase like she always did. Even most of the day Saturday she seemed ok.

Then Saturday night my wife let her inside and she just wasn't acting like herself. She was walking very wobbly and refused food for the first time in my experience. We knew that something was wrong.

My wife is a vet tech, so she had planned to take her to work with her on Monday. Sadly, she never got a chance to, because she was gone by morning when we woke up.

Losing a pet is always hard, but it's a lot harder when there's no warning. Jade went from being her normal hyper self on Saturday afternoon to being gone mere hours later. She was a 13 year old Chesapeake Bay Retriever, who you would have sworn was no older than 5 by the way she acted. My wife had her since she was 17 years old, Jade was her high school graduation present.

I decided to share this here, as I don't think my wife could bear to type all this out right now. I have tears running down my face as I type myself.

    What. The. Hell?!

That kid needs to be put on Ritalin, or taken off of it, whichever is the problem.

He should hang out with the crazy German kid that destroyed his computer cuz he got fragged in Unreal Tournament.

And judging by his reaction, maybe canceling his WoW account is the best thing for him. Maybe he can go outside and meet some people, where he will learn that spazzing like that isn't a common response to your WoW account being canceled. I mean, most kids just sulk for a few days.
  7. My wife and I have stumbled on a few nice combos.

Recently we paired up her fire/fire blaster with my Shield/DM tank.

Illusion/Storm controller and BS/DA scrapper was an odd one, but we made it work.

Fire/Kin and Dark/Kin corruptors. Damage output is just insane between the two of them.

Zombies/Poison MM and Dark/Nin stalker. I kill the bosses, she kills...well, everything else.

    Plant/Kin controller and fire/fire blaster.

    and our original pair:

    Elec/Elec blaster and claws/regen scrapper.

All combos listed her toon/my toon. This is just to illustrate that ANY combo can be made effective, it's more about the players than the powersets.
  8. Sounds to me like he's fighting a LOT of mezzing foes at once and they are overcoming his status protection.
  9. Villains can start teaming at any point, just like heroes. There just isn't anything like a sewer run villain-side.

Freedom and Virtue are the most populated servers, it's usually a little easier to find a team there. I like lower population servers due to less lag.

Also, don't be set on just one character. The game encourages you to roll alts. I have 4 level 50s and numerous other characters at different levels. Basically, if you don't feel like being a Mastermind today, play your Brute. If you don't feel like being a villain today, play a hero. CoH isn't as gear oriented as other MMOs. You don't need to play one character exclusively in order to do well at the game.

Sorry, I can't answer your PvP questions, except to say PvP doesn't follow the same rules as PvE. And I also don't play Masterminds (I don't like the micromanaging) so I can't really help there.

Hope you decide you like the game enough to stick around, I've been here over 3 years now and still haven't lost interest, so I at least think it's worth playing

    Co-Op Zones

I could live with maybe ONE more co-op zone.

Only on the condition that it have one HELL of a story behind it.

If it's just a co-op zone for the sake of a co-op zone then no thanks.
  11. I like the track when you first zone into Sharkhead from the ferry.

Being a metalhead at heart it appeals to me. Also being a guitarist I appreciate the fact that the guitar riffs in that track are a lot more intricate than they sound at first (I zoned back and forth a few times to listen to it closer)

I dig the track by the Arachnos pilot in Breakout too.
  12. Look in Developer's Corner. It's one of the stickied threads near the top.

You're really going to use this "defense"? Really? After you went on and on about how these people "refused" to "prove" their claims to you?

    Really?

I know I mentioned it earlier about another post regarding irony, etc... but REALLY?

I'd say I'm shocked, but I'm really not.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Good call Laxx. I somehow overlooked the hypocrisy there.
  15. [ QUOTE ]
Let me illustrate some serious, thankfully not often, situations:

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Emphasis mine.

If you are solo, you should not have spawns with mezzing capability sitting that close to an entrance all that often, if ever.

If you are on a team, chances are someone on the team can handle mezzes better than you can. Wouldn't it make sense to have them go through first? Last I checked, Defenders weren't the best choice of AT to go through a door first.

If you lead with your face, you will probably plant it.

Every single defender blast set has SOME kind of status effect in it. This is by design. It gives defenders the ability to pre-emptively prevent status effects by applying them first. They are not as good at it as controllers, but it IS there. Only Energy Blast lacks a hard control power, it makes up for it by having a soft control power in nearly all of it's attacks. The status effect here would be: On their butt.

And not all Defenders and Controllers are completely vulnerable to mezzes. Force Field and Sonic Resonance both have a bubble that grants mez protection of the 3 most common types, Sleep, Hold, and Disorient. Take Acrobatics and you have mag FIVE hold protection, not to mention KB protection.

The balance is just fine. 3 tanker sets and 4 scrapper sets have a self-rez, which (surprise, surprise!) most people skip entirely. You make it sound like self rez is a defining trait of tanks, it's not. NOT DYING is the defining trait of tanks. You're using outliers to make your argument.

Your definition of "support" is a little off too. All ATs support each other.

I'll use your example of a tank, since you seem to be fond of that one.

    [ QUOTE ]
A mezzed or dead Defender is of little good to you, right?

    [/ QUOTE ]

That is very true. Therefore, it is in the tank's best interest to keep agro off of the defender. If the defender/controller isn't being targeted by mezzers, what does he have to worry about?

In the case of blaster/defender pairings. The defender probably has some way of keeping the blaster free of status effects. In return the blaster's job is to defeat their foes before they are a threat to the defender.

Also, the game is balanced around teaming, not soloing. It assumes you have enough variety on your team to handle the majority of situations, including mezzing enemies.

The game, by design, does not allow anyone to be completely impervious to harm. Every AT has a weakness that the game can and WILL exploit. I personally believe that Malta and KoA were designed specifically to give high level melee characters headaches. They drain your endurance while out of range of your attacks, stack enough mezzes to break through mez protection, sometimes simultaneously. And in the case of KoA, throw so many caltrops that you are reduced to a snail's pace while being whittled down from range. That sounds like an enemy group designed to be difficult to melee characters. A defender on the other hand, believe it or not, is not as threatened by these groups. Every defender has some ability to handle a Sapper before they get drained. Defenders have ranged attacks, so the massive amounts of caltrops aren't as bad for them. The majority of mezzers in those two groups are LTs or minions, leaving them vulnerable to the defender or controllers own status effects.

The situation you describe where there is nothing at all you can do? That happens to everyone at some time or another. It is not a defender only issue. Sometimes things just don't go your way.
  16. [ QUOTE ]
thanks again everyone you all have been very helpful, it speaks volumes about the player base relative to some of the other games

And THAT, in a nutshell, is why I'm still here.

    RP?

    This thread is hilarious.

No, really, it is. I'll remind everyone how this whole mess started. tuter_king asks a perfectly innocent question, inquiring exactly what RP is. The next few posts are people attempting to explain what RP is to him.

Then, about 4 or 5 posts in War_Admiral comes in with this:

    [ QUOTE ]
We (The Stoned Templars) had 2 members who told us they were female and even went out of their way to maintain that "sex" in pretty much everything they did and said. Of course...they were "lesbian". *rolls eyes*

It wasnt until we added Vent and invited them that we came to the conclusion that they were both dudes. They both declined to use Vent every time we asked them to join it.

From that point on...I just assume punch RPers in the face. They're useless if you ask me. Dudes RPing as chicks......get a life. Seriously.

    [/ QUOTE ]

What the HELL does that response have to do with the question that was asked?!?

Calling RPers useless and saying he would just as soon punch them in the face. At no point does he attempt to answer the question in any way. He gives an example of TWO people and declares that anyone who RPs is just as bad as them. Because 2 people is clearly a large enough cross-section to judge an entire group.

That's like overhearing someone asking how to change a spark plug and jumping in saying that all mechanics are incompetent con artists, because one time a mechanic forgot to flush your radiator. It has NOTHING to do with the topic at hand.

I love how War_Admiral makes a big show of defending himself from personal attacks when he himself started the fight. Kinda like walking up and punching a random person in the face and when they hit you back saying: "Hey! What did you hit me for?!"

    Co-Op Zones

The way it was explained to me...and I agree, was:

Below level 35 you are still absolutely convinced that anyone on the other side is your sworn enemy. Even at level 35 and higher it takes something of world shaking importance to cause heroes and villains to (grudgingly) work together.

In the RWZ heroes and villains are cooperating to try and remove the threat of the Rikti from the world. The reasons differ from hero to villain, but the goal is the same. A hero is just trying to protect the world he lives in. A villain realizes that if the Rikti dominate or destroy the world then they can't do it.

Cimerora is a case where an enemy group is attempting to rewrite history by going back and giving an enemy power far beyond anything possessed by his contemporaries. Heroes and villians work together here with the understanding that if this threat isn't eliminated they may ALL cease to exist altogether.

It takes a monumental threat for heroes and villains to set aside their differences and fight a common enemy. Beating up Outcasts doesn't qualify as much of a challenge, let alone a world-endangering threat.
  19. I had that happen on my main. I should be due for the 42 month badge any day now. I logged in the other day, and it gave me 42, 45, 48, and 51 all at once.

The badges didn't appear on any other character, but my free character slot for 48 months showed up in my log-in screen.

I'm afraid to use it. I figure it would just delete the new character when they strip the vet badges away, but I don't want to chance that it would auto-delete a random character, possibly my main or another 50.
  20. It'd be awesome, I won't argue with that. Problem I see is: I can only imagine the system requirements for that level of detail to appear while processing information at a decent frame rate.

I don't claim to know much about how the systems actually work, but it seems to me that a feature like that would crank up the system requirements quite a bit, possibly putting the game out of reach of people that are playing on their 6 year old desktop, as an example. I can assure you, if that level of detail were implemented my laptop's graphics card would have a meltdown. I mean that literally, it overheats now, it would seriously melt.
  21. Almost every enemy group you encounter at 50 has at least one mob type that has a to-hit debuff in it's arsenal.
  22. My fire/fire blaster, if I'm going all out with no regard for my own safety (is there any other way?) can and does pull agro off of anything but an Ice tank running both auras and taunting. If a tank doesn't have Taunt while my blaster is on the team, he is basically a really tough scrapper for all the agro he keeps off me. A stoner running Mud Pots can hold agro from me as well, mostly because they run so slowly they forget about me before they leave the aura.

    Cold or FF?

    [ QUOTE ]
I reckon pretty much every set has something annoying about it. Rad and Dark Defenders (and Storm and Cold) complain about teammates killing their anchors - this can get old for the teammates.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't complain about it. I just wait until the team wipes because someone killed the anchor and point out the mistake. I also have in my search comment "I am not responsible for deaths that directly result from the killing of my anchors"

I'm on the fence about Cold and FF. Either one is rare enough that I'm pleasantly surprised when I get ANY kind of shield. That includes Sonic and Thermal as well.

For personal play I prefer FF. I dislike the look of some of Cold's powers. If I wanted to be running around with a team of Ice tanks, I would be.

Come to think of it....I haven't seen an Ice tank in a long time....
  24. [ QUOTE ]
My suggestion might be those who have arcs that are reported as farms to maybe be restricted in their publish ability in AE. Just a thought, maybe a 3 strike and you can't publish for X amount of time rule.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Umm, this is already in place. If you are caught repeatedly making farm missions you get your slots locked. It literally is 3 strikes and you're out. If all 3 slots get locked you lose access to AE, permanently.

That may change now that you can buy more slots. Oh well, niether here nor there.

To the OPs question: I saw Cold defenders all over the place when they first got the set. Since then it has tapered off quite a bit. It is a good enough set at high levels that if I am looking to kill an AV or GM I look for a Rad or a Cold, in no particular order of preference.

It's a good set and you don't see a whole lot of them, so if it sounds like fun, go for it.
  25. I believe it is the exact time you opened your account.

My Veteran badges and rewards hit on the 17th at around 10:30 PM.

I'm not sure exactly how it works though, so don't take my word for it.
