Hi Masque. Yeah, I'll be logged on 5:30-10 tomorrow Pac time. I sent you a tell (Snarky)
-
Well, I am leveling my new Brute. Kind of hoping to have one at 10. I guess I would do the trade for one in the level range 10-25.
-
I have a Glad Proc +3% Defense lvl 50. i want to trade for a Glad +3% defense level 10. i will kick in 200 million.

Okay, when I got back into the game a couple months ago I was thinking SS/Invul. At that time Mauk made up a build for me. I should have just stayed with that idea. Obviously I circled back to it. Here is the build I am mostly going to go with. Mauk said it wasn't "optimized". it looks insanely tough to me. If I could squeeze on a purple set I would love it, if it did not jostle the numbers bad. Also, I have no love of Hasten, especially on a SS/Invul Brute. Rage is Perma without it on this. Can anyone see a way to shoehorn a little more performance out of it?

Hrm, how much softcap? I am pretty sure I can get S/L at 45%, which I was gonna throw a MID build on and look at, see if it gimped the recharge and damage I want. But do you mean all S/L/En/Neg/Fire/Cold?
And speaking of Recharge, What is the Global Recharge Number I should shoot for to perma Rage. In a related question, what is the best set of all time to throw in Rage?
I am basically looking at making sure KO, FS, and Rage are working great. Then driving the rest of the build from there. -
I ran SS/Invul Brutes for the first year and a half I was in the cities, almost exclusively. My first 50. My first 50 when I moved servers was SS/Invul. I have had a few mains since then, my funnest were definitely Brutes. I tried to Tank early last year, then got really irritated at the Incarnate rewards. How many months without a VR for that guy, sheesh! So, over the last year I have been trying to find a new main. Scrappers, Blasters, Doms, I think I tried them all. Last night someone mentioned having some unholy number of badges on one character. Something just clicked. I need a badger, and it needs to be a SS/Invul Brute.
So, as I am in character generation it hits me. I am rich now. (relatively lol, I'm no marketeer) But I have a couple hunderd high end I/Os just sitting in a storage base, plus a main (SS/Fire/Mu Brute, ghetto blaster) tricked out with purps and such. When I was running my original SS/Invul I was Broke Phi Broke. Back then 20 mil to me was all the cash in the world.
Now, I am used to running these guys with just SOs. As I go to I/O it I do not want to go for softcap defense. I want to build enough recharge to stack Rage, I want to Purp a couple attacks. I'll throw some procs and globals on him, including my Glad +3% defense. My build goal is to make him more "Brutier", just more of the Smashtastic. For once, I am just using sets to enhance what is already there, and not going for pure recharge, or pure defense.
His power sets I am sure of are SS/Invul/Fighting/Fly (just Fly, w/stealth proc I think) -
Quote:This, I would pay for. Extra money if it was robotic, even the one that was barely animate like in the Doc Who 3rd iteration. (or was that 4?)Actually, we need a Super Dog Pet! It's like the normal dog, except it has super speed, a "super bark" ranged sonic attack, and has laser beam eyes.
I actually still want a full robot main, no human attempt look at all. I would settle for getting the thighs on any robot to not have the shape of every muscle group on a human. Like the clockwork arms, or skeletal mechanical. Seriously, it cannot be that hard. -
Because Blaster is the "Ranged Damage" class. But if you want to make a "Ranged Damage" solo character look elsewhere. In fact, there are very few power set choices that lend real strength to Ranged Damage amongst the Blasters choices. By this I mean take a close look at Blaster Primaries. Notice in every set (almost) there are PBAoEs. What part of Point-Blank is Ranged? It's really bad because its one of the few area attacks. Blasters need those AoEs or they can only solo spawns of 2-3 at a time. The secondaries are even worse. Nothing but melee attacks and Point Blanks strewn thru the whole mess. Blaster's are really designed as Blappers right out of the gate. If you hate redraw or think guns have no place in superhero genre you are limited to almost no choices for ranged. I found one decent Ranged choice, Ice/Nrg, and it was adequate. It irritates me every single time I go to character creation and it's like "Ranged Damage" and I'm like "You must think I don't know what Ranged means..."

my 2 Inf. I have been trying to break my Brute addiction for awhile now. The Devs messing with Fury helped me get into rehab. I have been trying for a few weeks to find a good pure ranged character. I worked with the Blaster boards asking what is the best pure range/why? Turns out Ice/Nrg is a very nice, strong pure ranged Blaster. then, I thought, why not dom. I tried Ice/Ice. Then looked at the Dom boards. Earth/Fire it was. Then I thought of an old Dom I 50'd (Grav/Nrg) and how much I liked it. I looked at the choices, and rolled a Grav/Elec. Now, I got all these toons somewhere between 21-28, not long enough to get the full development, but starting to get the flavor. For me, something was missing. Right. Pure Damage. I rolled a Fire/Psi Blaster. Solo, it is living on the edge, no safety net. On teams, it just adds the AoE damage a team needs to kill those spawns. Puts the "steam" in Steamroller.
But my plan for the Ice/Nrg Blaster was to slap a full I/O softcap range defense on it. Not tons of damage like Fire/Psi, but played smart a real tank mage. I can post the build if you like. It is very expensive though. -
Quote:okay, it is kinda stupid the dog sits in the middle of epic battles doing nothing. Really moronic call from whoever decided that would add to super battles. But I won't refuse to team with somebody who has one. Then again, the bar is pretty low for what I will not team with. And it seems to be dropping after a few weeks of DFB...It is the most absurd thing ever.
I was on a team and two people had it.
I can't believe it does nothing.
Why the would they make this...?
"Are game is too serious...how can we make it more ridiculous and less superhero like?"
Honestly...I will never buy it no matter what...but at least make thing do a bite attack. Have it be unkillable unless the person who has it dies...but make it attack. So at the very least it will fit in with the City of Heroes world you created as a type of "krypto" dog.
As of right now...it is damn stupid...and I definitely don't care to team with someone who has this immersion breaking "pet" that does absolutely nothing but sit in the middle of huge superpowered fight scratching its ears. -
Well, I spent the few three days leveling a half dozen characters to 20-28 level. Ice/Nrg Blaster. ice/Ice Dom. Earth/Fire Dom. Grav/Elec Dom. Dark/Dark tank (for my wifes team) and finally Fire/Psi Blaster. Because I realized something, and came back to Blaster. I like Blasting, just for the sheer raw dsamage I throw downrange. No matter that its not clever, or has super holds, or anything else. It just lays a ton of pain out. and I like that.
Not sure how I will plan to I/O the Fire/Psi (the winner of the marathon) I plan to play him mostly at cone range, and jump in when its safe for Drain Psyche. I am tired right now, but basically looking at just throwing heavy hitting sets on him. Depending on the team for strategy. When solo (for banks/arcs) I am set at -1 level, and have stealth/invisibility. It's insane at low levels how overwhelming the damage is. I am sure that changes in feel at 30+ or so.
Any advice for playstyle and I/Oing concepts are appreciated. Thanks. -
I think they should allow a bit more flexibility and allow level 1 or level 2. You cannot control people who want to play stupid. I still remember from a couple weeks ago a Stalker in the Sewer trials telling nonstop (bad) jokes. I finally asked him to attack something. Get the reply "That would break Stealth." Seriously there are few times when I wish we could go PvP in a team, but that was one of them.
So yes, people will make bad choices. But people are doing that constantly now. Some people will make very good choices and enjoy the game just one power choice more. Priceless. -
I have run Dark Armor few times. Depending on how many powers you take/how you slot it it can be an Endurance HOG. This is one of the reasons pairing it with Dark Melee works, with it's End replenishment power. Also, Super Strength is a bit of an end hog itself.
Just saying, be careful to look at those numbers when planning your monster. Good Luck. -
Hrm. I just about talked myself into an Ice/Ice Dom and outta a Ice/Nrg Blaster. Then i saw this. So at incarnate trial levels all those cool Dom powers are pretty much a special effects show before you got rick rolled to the local hospital?
-
I mostly ran Brutes for a couple years, then started flirting with Doms. Then GR hit. Then brutes got nerf-batted. I have messed around with Scrappers, and recently been trying to find a Blaster concept I liked. In trying to find a archtype to duo with my wife (who is new to the cities! yeah!) I started looking at Doms again. After some experimenting she decided on a Tank companion. But I am back to looking a Doms seriously for myself.
So, my Dom experience. My first was a Grav/Nrg Dom on a slow server. Got to about 30. This was about 3 years ago. Then about a year after that I gave Doms a really serious look. Leveled 10, all at the same time to around low 20s. That helped a lot in understanding some of the mechanics/tactics. Then, again, took the Grav/Nrg further. this time got to around 40ish. About 10 months ago I quick 50d a Dom (gotta love PLing these days!) and Purp'd Perma'd him. Guess what build? Right, Grav/Nrg.
So, I have been on an Ice kick recently. I started a Ice/Ice Dom. I have two question really. 1) Should I expect more love from teammates for an Ice/Ice Dom than I got with a Grav/Nrg? 2) How does Ice/Ice play different at high levels from Grav/Nrg? -
You guys are probably right about the Controller being a good way to go.... Part of the problem is I am definitely not good at running a Controller no doubt. Whereas I have Tanked on Brutes for years, and ran a soft cap Tank for a time. Sometimes people respond to how confident you are, not how good the situation is. I am very confident on a melee, especially a damage/agro sponge type. i am decidedly not so comfortable on crowd Control arch types.
I did start a Ice/Ice Dominator after this thread though. I feel Ice is the most naturally control heavy power set based on running an Ice/Ice Blaster to 40 back in the day. Plus with it starting to snow on me (should last about 6 months) I just had to lol. The reason I chose Dominator is not a slight on Controllers. I have a full Perma Dom I/O enhancer trove sitting in my base from when I stripped my last try at a Grav/Nrg Dom. Hopefully I will enjoy it more this time. My time Doming was colored by my inexperience and the fact that there ain't no love for Grav/Nrg on teams lol. I have been playing a lot more squishies since then, and hopefully Ice/Ice will get more love. -
Step 1) Strip everything sell everything, e-mail proceeds to global acct.
Step2) there is a trashcan Icon in the player select menu. -
Hi folks. I really never thought I would run a tank again. But my wife just joined the cities, and after some experimentation she is sure she wants me on a Tank to duo with her.
I chose Dark/Dark for various concept/mechanics reasons. I am looking for a softcapped Dark/Dark build. I am already slapping I/Os onto him like mad (at 13th level now) Have thrown Glad+3% Steadfast+3% Steadfast -KB, and a Regen Tissue in so far. I have what should be about 90% of what I need sitting in my base from when I stripped a softcapped Will tank late last year. Just not sure how to fit it in efficiently. Anybody got any good or really good ideas that can save me a few hours piddling in mids? -
Thank you all so much for the mini education on controllers and all the advice/input. Last night I pulled off thescrapper I had been running. I first grabbed a 16th Ice Dom Ihad available. (Wife is playing a 21 Energy Blaster) She liked it, commented on the overlapping blaster style powers. She liked the control/lockdowns. But it was not a perfect fit. Next mish i switched out for a 20th tank that had been sitting for 2 years. She LOVED it. Slower killing, but she absolutely loved just letting the tank herd and then blasting the fish in a barrel. So, old old school tactics for this duo. Pulling, herding, and Blasting. I am right now leveling up a Tank she designed for the duo. (she spent a half hour making sure I got the face right...)
again thanks to all. -

Quote:Hrm. Good point. I keep trying to figure out how to make the team rack up the body count. But the last time I did that didn't work cause my Scrapper can wipe a mob faster than a new blaster can target. Killing KB may also kill the fun.Personally, I think knockback is part of the appeal of an Energy Blaster. Knockback is fun and very super-heroy. It is also a kind of short-term control that can be very effective. My Energy/Energy Blaster relies upon Knockback as a form of protection, to keep foes at range. So I would not want a controller with -Knockback.

I recently got a new comp, Window 7. i cannot even find the CoH folder anymore. Where the heck is it?
-
Quote:But if you do that you're stuck with a lot of things you might not want cluttering up your powers window.
Things like the 4 Prestige Sprints, the non-combat pets, and an assortment of other powers that may or may not be completely useless to the character in question.
I prefer to go through and claim all the stuff I want and leave the unwanted stuff sitting there. It takes a little longer, but I don't have a bunch of useless crap cluttering up my screen.
This is my system as well. One of the things I am always looking for is a new main. the importance of seeing those respecs in the e-mail is the assurance if I throw 5 purple sets and numerous other goodies onto the build I'll be able to strip them right back off when I'm done with it. I have a very finite number of high end enhancers, since I don't market or even run 50 content consistently. Most of my play is alts and looking for fun concepts. So, those respecs left easily viewable in the e-mail is the best indicator I have. -
Quote:I dont know if some of the old school Blasters will remember "jousting" - way back before IOs were invented close range blasters would just joust in and out of melee range (I still do this today on my Blaster) using superspeed.
Funny you should mention it. I am just getting into blasting seriously. I ran a Dark/psi up to low 40s a few weeks back. what i did not like was having to jump into the spawns to drain psyche and nuke. Thats where the core of this idea comes from. They promised me ranged damage. I want ranged damage! (and no redraw...) -
Quote:Wont any Controller Immobilize and Hold stop knockback? like Grav or Psi?The big question here is do you want to prevent her from dealing knockback or not? As a Controller you will generally want to use your AoE immobilize power to setup containment (you don't have to but generally want to). Earth, Fire, Ice and Plant will all apply knockback immunity to enemies when you use their immobilize powers so if your wife likes tossing foes around those would be a bad choice for a primary.
In terms of secondary it depends on what you want. Empathy is one option simply because a Blaster with Fortitude and Adrenalin Boost is a killing machine. Other than that Kin, Radiation and Cold are all solid choices.
