I ran SS/Invul Brutes for the first year and a half I was in the cities, almost exclusively. My first 50. My first 50 when I moved servers was SS/Invul. I have had a few mains since then, my funnest were definitely Brutes. I tried to Tank early last year, then got really irritated at the Incarnate rewards. How many months without a VR for that guy, sheesh! So, over the last year I have been trying to find a new main. Scrappers, Blasters, Doms, I think I tried them all. Last night someone mentioned having some unholy number of badges on one character. Something just clicked. I need a badger, and it needs to be a SS/Invul Brute.

So, as I am in character generation it hits me. I am rich now. (relatively lol, I'm no marketeer) But I have a couple hunderd high end I/Os just sitting in a storage base, plus a main (SS/Fire/Mu Brute, ghetto blaster) tricked out with purps and such. When I was running my original SS/Invul I was Broke Phi Broke. Back then 20 mil to me was all the cash in the world.

Now, I am used to running these guys with just SOs. As I go to I/O it I do not want to go for softcap defense. I want to build enough recharge to stack Rage, I want to Purp a couple attacks. I'll throw some procs and globals on him, including my Glad +3% defense. My build goal is to make him more "Brutier", just more of the Smashtastic. For once, I am just using sets to enhance what is already there, and not going for pure recharge, or pure defense.

His power sets I am sure of are SS/Invul/Fighting/Fly (just Fly, w/stealth proc I think)

Why not slot for softcapped defense and recharge?

Going pure uber-recharge may not be the best thing. One, your blue bar will disappear faster than a blink. You'll get hit with multiple Rage crash End reductions and the only thing stacking Rage avoids is the Defense debuff, the 10 second damage debuff still aplies PER crash I believe.

Going softcapped defense will still allow you to be "brutier", and you still build Fury like Crazy. Plus a soft-cap build for INV is dirt cheap compared to a recharge build.

Hrm, how much softcap? I am pretty sure I can get S/L at 45%, which I was gonna throw a MID build on and look at, see if it gimped the recharge and damage I want. But do you mean all S/L/En/Neg/Fire/Cold?

And speaking of Recharge, What is the Global Recharge Number I should shoot for to perma Rage. In a related question, what is the best set of all time to throw in Rage?

I am basically looking at making sure KO, FS, and Rage are working great. Then driving the rest of the build from there.

Okay, when I got back into the game a couple months ago I was thinking SS/Invul. At that time Mauk made up a build for me. I should have just stayed with that idea. Obviously I circled back to it. Here is the build I am mostly going to go with. Mauk said it wasn't "optimized". it looks insanely tough to me. If I could squeeze on a purple set I would love it, if it did not jostle the numbers bad. Also, I have no love of Hasten, especially on a SS/Invul Brute. Rage is Perma without it on this. Can anyone see a way to shoehorn a little more performance out of it?

Rage lasts for 120 seconds and recharges in 240 seconds base. 100% recharge will make it perma. Getting Rage perma with 2 common recharge IO's.

If you slot Rectified Recticle for the two piece bonus to S/L def and a common level 50 recharge IO you need to get just about 42% more global recharge to make Rage Perma.

On the other hand you can just 3 slot with commons and call it a day. Just about any other bonus at that point will push you over into perma.

As to what set to use in Rage. That is very dependent on what the rest of the build looks like and what set bonus fill the holes that you have.

Gausians offers tasty perks at 3 and 4 slots but the def bonus at 6 slots is not as nice on a typed build like you have with a /INV.

Defense
45.2 to S/L
36.4 to F/C/E/NE
0 to Psi

Resistance
70.5 to S/L
28.7 to F/C
23.3 to E/N/T
0 to Psi

Purple set (in KO Blow) / Uses the 3% Gladiator
Rage is perma (without Hasten)

Less Toggles than the build you posted

Soul Mastery gives you Gloom (include this and boxing in your single target attack chain) / Dark Obliteration (very nice AoE attack) / Darkest Night

Hasten is included in this build for Dull Pain.

I've been toying with for my SS/Inv brute's build quite a bit recently, and came up with the following stats:

Def:
45.1 S/L
38.9 F/C/E/N
18.4 Psi

Resist:
63.7 S/L
29.2 F/C
20.9 E/N
3 Psi

81.25% global recharge; no hasten; double stacked rage
Spiritual Alpha to perma DP (toying with the idea of going Agility though)

I went with CJ / SJ, but you could swap them for hover/fly, and replace stealth with afterburner

That is really nice Scene. You are nearly nailing Mauk's numbers, and are closer to the power choices I would make. I do not like Hasten. I am pulled towards SS/Invul Brutes because of the non-click feeling. I deal with Rage, never realized for a year the madness other people go thru mashing build up on most other builds lol. I will be throwing Fly on. I use a stealth proc in Fly for "Brute Stealthing" the missions I solo. So that saves me a power choice. I'll prob pick up hand Clap or Hurl. Both neat powers when you have an extra choice. I am going to compare your build and Mauk's Heracles and see if I can blend the two together just slightly more, or add a purple set, lol. The endless drive to shoehorn just a little more will never go away. But I really appreciate this, it definitely moves the conversation along in the direction I wanted to go. I'll have to start looking at Incarnate powers next. Both these builds look so strong on paper I feel like I have free range to pick what I want, which usually means more damage lol.
