Back to Doms...

I mostly ran Brutes for a couple years, then started flirting with Doms. Then GR hit. Then brutes got nerf-batted. I have messed around with Scrappers, and recently been trying to find a Blaster concept I liked. In trying to find a archtype to duo with my wife (who is new to the cities! yeah!) I started looking at Doms again. After some experimenting she decided on a Tank companion. But I am back to looking a Doms seriously for myself.
So, my Dom experience. My first was a Grav/Nrg Dom on a slow server. Got to about 30. This was about 3 years ago. Then about a year after that I gave Doms a really serious look. Leveled 10, all at the same time to around low 20s. That helped a lot in understanding some of the mechanics/tactics. Then, again, took the Grav/Nrg further. this time got to around 40ish. About 10 months ago I quick 50d a Dom (gotta love PLing these days!) and Purp'd Perma'd him. Guess what build? Right, Grav/Nrg. So, I have been on an Ice kick recently. I started a Ice/Ice Dom. I have two question really. 1) Should I expect more love from teammates for an Ice/Ice Dom than I got with a Grav/Nrg? 2) How does Ice/Ice play different at high levels from Grav/Nrg? |
while ice sounds like a good choice, i would prefer a more personal touch and plant/energy has got to be one of the best dom sets i have played, in my experience an amazing pvp set and pve set, drop seeds of confusion after domination, carrion creepers next, then fire ball from fire mastery, whirling hands drop vines, and pick off the rest with a lethal ST attack chain.
i personally put the achilles heel chance for debuff in fly trap and it does wonders.
perma dom with this is a beast plus power boost will boost ur defenses if its good enough including pretty much everything else, i quite like it and it fits to my playstyle, i have one tricked out n hes monsterous.
from what i heard about grav it seems it has some unresolved issues so i would personally just leave it for now.
ice is a good set too if you pair it with fire assault it could be nasty damage and mitigation from some ice dom powers.
Sorry, I don't come on the forums every day. I'm working on a build now with everyone's in-put. However, I talked with a player in-game yesterday and was told there is a rule of 5. That no matter which sets you use your only given the first 5 same bonuses. i.e. 5 +6.25% recharge... In my build I have 8. Can anyone verify this?

The player you spoke to was right on the money...

Worth pointing out for better clarification though:
"Castle further elaborated on the rule of five in I13 Closed Beta saying that the exclusion of more than five of the same bonuses is based on the name of the bonus and not its value. For example, a character can benefit from up to five global benefits of Luck of the Gambler: Defense/Increased Recharge Speed, which gives a global +7.5% bonus to Recharge Rate, as well as up to five set bonuses of +7.5% Recharge. That's because the first bonus is named "Luck of the Gambler: Recharge Speed" while the second is "Huge Recharge Bonus". One can find the names of the bonuses listed in the Combat Attributes window."
