  1. Try Menu > Options > Windows > Reticle, and set Player Health Bars to 'Show Always'. Your character will then have health/endurance bars above their heads.

Alternatively, try moving the Status Bar to somewhere where you can see the bars easier.

The game doesn't -need- to be any easier than it already is, infact quite the opposite.

More than likely you as a player had several options to prevent your death but because you didn't notice, your toon did a face plant.
I'm rarely surprised when I faceplant, it's usually because I've punched way above my weight or because I've stopped paying attention to the screen. In situations like this, I'll have deserved to faceplant.

    Quote:
I would like to see something that could help players prevent these face plants by implemting an automated solution, which means that when an event occurs, a preplanned protocol is executed.

In terms of how these can fit into the business model, well they could be sold at the Paragon Market, or unlocked via a levelling like mechanism. (see below for details)

    Danger Protocols

    DP - Auto-Inspire
In this case, what the protocol does is automatically use an inspiration type of your choice when it lands in you tray. The Inspiration is used in a normal fashion, so it would wait until the player has a lull in their actions. This could be set to work on any or a limited type of inspiration based on balance issues. This can be useful to remove unwanted inspirations, or to use useful ones as they drop.
I'm going to assume you're playing on a laptop here, and don't have the standard F-keys. All of the things you mention can be set up with macros or even bound to the same keys you move with. There's guides on how to set them up on the forums, and possibly the wiki, too.

    Quote:
    DP - Oh-Crap
In this case, this is a power based protocol that is activated when your at 10-15% health or less (for example). The power, when in the Oh-Crap protocol is only available when triggered, To activate the power from your tray you would need to remove it from the Protocol (when out of combat for example). Powers that make sense here include things like Elude, Hibernate, Personal Force Field etc. You could even use temp powers that you have available (accolades etc)

(If your power is recharging, you're SOL )
Again, binds. My old emergency power (Ethereal Shift) was bound to the minus key on my numpad. A lot of builds don't even have an emergency power.

    Quote:
    DP - Fatigue
In this case, the protocl event is based on low endurance (say 20%), and it would use a pre-slotted endurance inspiration.

    DP - Injured
In this case, the protocl event is based on low health (say 20%), and it would use a pre-slotted Health inspiration.
If this waits for a lull in activity and you're button mashing and queuing powers up, these won't fire. Depending on what you're fighting, the inspiration may not cover it and you faceplant regardless.

    Quote:
    DP - Defense Debuff
In this case, the protocol event is when your defense has been debuffed, and it would use a preslotted inspiration (resist, def or health would work)

    DP - Resist Debuff
In this case, the protocol event is when your resistence has been debuffed, and it would use a preslotted inspiration (resist, def or health would work)
Not all debuffs do damage, so Health would be useless here.

    Quote:
    DP - Slowed
The protocol even is hasten, and if available it would activate.
Slow and Recharge debuff are two different things. Generally Hasten is on auto-fire for a lot of people.

    Quote:
    DP - Mezzed
The protocol event would activate a preslotted breakfree when you were mezzed.
    Again, bind.

Ok, so how does one get this into the game? Here is a neat way I would consider doing it. I would make a new Story arc (level 15 or 20) which would reward the access to Danger Protocols. To get a DP as a reward, you have to spend experience. (So that means your delaying your levelling)

For example: You do the arc at level 15, and unlock the acess. When you hit level 17, you call your contact, and he grants you access to choose your reward. The 'penalty' is that you have to pay X number of bubbles of experience (like a death penalty). Getting another DP is done by calling the contact, and then paying off the 'penalty'. The penalty could vary based on how the developer sees the benefit, or could be made available at certain levels etc.
I would hope for a massive penalty, as this only seems to benefit lazy people.

    Quote:
This would apply to level 50 toons as well. They could do the arc, and then as they play, they get access to the rewards based on experience gained. They could only work on one DP at a time.
You don't get experience at 50, so surely doing the arc would unlock everything for a 50? Or did you want us to do the arc repeatedly to access each protocol individually?

    Quote:
You could also pay in the market to get the DPs as well of course.
I can't see many people paying for a power that saves you having to press one key/click once.

The basic premise is interesting, but the way you've described it, it only benefits the lazy and/or incompetent, and only then for a brief moment. It might be better to have a system which explains the reason for the faceplant in a pophelp type thing, with some tips to avoid it, instead of letting newer people play badly for a few seconds longer each time. Something like an Analysis of the Previous Fight power, with statistics. Like HeroStats can do, but in-game and only for the last combat. I'd be tempted to buy something like that in the store for 200 points or so.
  3. I vaguely remember, from what I've read, that the limitation on any 32-bit OS is 3 GB RAM. So XP-32 will read 3 GB, and Win 7-32 will also only read 3 GB. I think there's a way around the max RAM limit, but I've never had to look into it much.

    (Don't quote me on this).

    Does this sound right?
You also get a bonus token for the first time you buy points of any amount, so you'd only have to buy the one lot of 1200.

I had the plan to buy up all the sleep purples, in preparation for Enhancement Converters, but when I checked the markets, the price was already too high for me (90m+). I'm not on as regularly as I used to be. A few years ago, I used to buy up the sleep recipes at silly prices, 10-100k mostly, and I'd sell them for 1-10m, so that price hike seemed too steep to me, regardless of how much I could have made.

I'm not a huge marketeer, I don't put a great deal of effort in, and it's never regular. I've something like 6-8b inf floating about. I'm cheap, though. If an IO is going for more than 50m, I'll use some form of merits to buy the recipe, usually whilst I'm still levelling. I've given away more than I've spent on my own characters.

With Incarnates, I play a couple of select 50's, and have been levelling a couple of others who will likely get retired at 50 like the others. I've began gradually respec'ing older toons, to remove their IO's, ten at a time. With Issue 22, I'll likely be down to a Dark/Dark Defender, Tank and Domi, and the rest will likely never get used, short of the markets. The Defender and Tank are already slotted to suit me perfectly, and neither of those have any purples. The Domi will be built for recharge, so I'll slot her with 5x5 sets.

But I've realised, I've enough inf to slot her up already and the prices will most likely drop for the damage purples. My base has all the bits I need, and I don't care about the leaderboards. I don't spend inf on anything else, and if I had a fortune, I'd more than likely just give most of it away to random people/events.

I had the idea to profit, but personally, the effort just wasn't worth the reward.
  9. I'll slot the Miracle and Numi in Health (20 and 30, bought with merits as I'm levelling), the two Performance Shifters in Stamina, an LOTG +rech in Combat Jumping and -usually- a Stealth IO in one of the Prestige Sprints (not on my tank).

For most defense powers, I'll often slot Def and Def/End from GOTA, and an LOTG +rech. I'll stick a +Def Steadfast in somewhere, too. The rest is toon-dependent.
  10. Invulnerabilty for S/L res. No Psi.
Elec Armor for Energy res. No Toxic outside of crash power.
Fiery Armor for Fire res. No Psi.
    Dark Armor for Neg/Psi res.
Ice Armor for Cold res. Defense based.
Granite for Everything but Psi. Dull.
Willpower for S/L and Psi with Regen on top. Generally low numbers to everything else.

They all have their strengths and weaknesses, but Dark would be my personal suggestion.

If you're building for Def with IO's, Kinetic Melee might be handy for it's -damage/pseudo +res. Knockdown is good mitigation, too. I went Dark/Dark/Body on my tank, and she's ridiculously hardy, so much so that I can use the heal as a taunt.

SR and Ninjitsu let you dodge the attack, while Ice and Energy have the attacks bouncing off a barrier you've placed around yourself.
So what's Shield's excuse for being positional?
  12. Starting with the gambling thing, I don't consider it to be gambling per se, as you're guaranteed to get something with the Super Packs. Sure, it might not be what you want, but then, if I order a lasagne in a restaurant and it turns out to have mushrooms in, it's not what I wanted either, but I've still been fed.

What are my options there? Order something I don't want? Go somewhere else where the food isn't as good? Or eat the majority of the lasagne and leave the mushrooms on the side? I could starve (ie save my PPs until there's something I want), but eventually I'll have to spend them on something (I've loads saved so far, as nothing was appealing). Heck, with some of the things in the Super Packs, it's like having dinner with a friend who's going to take the mushrooms off my plate anyhow.

As for the morals? This is a point I've been known to be fanatical over in the past, so I'll try to keep this brief. Morals are personal. I have my morals, you have yours. I don't expect you to follow mine, and I would be enraged if you think I had to follow yours. I'm not 'morally obligated' to do anything, ever. Laws and morals are not the same thing, and never will be.

    My Toon. . .

Solo Incarnate path, via the revamp of Dark Astoria in Issue 22: Death Incarnate, yes.

    http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Issue_22

Most info is from the Player Summit, I believe. If you wanted to find more info, threads on that would be a good place to start. I've heard rumours that it enter's beta testing next week, too.

    My Toon. . .

    Stay up really late?

What level is she, and what time zone are you in/times are you online? If she's lowish level, there's the choice of parking her there and making the same toon on a different server (same name/sets). There's also the global channels like Union Chat, Union Taskforce, Sals Badgehunters, etc, which is where a lot of recruiting for teams goes on.

As a VIP, you also get a free server transfer per month, so to move her might not cost you any points. It's also entirely possible to solo to 50 without ever teaming, and with Issue 22 you'll be able to progress to Incarnates solo, too. I'm not completely sure I understand what you want to achieve.
  15. I'm pretty sure it's impossible to create a character that is universally liked by all.

I admit, I see Statesman as an avatar for Jack, and whilst I liked a lot of Jack's ideas, I disliked his pigheadedness. Paragon Studios has moved on, and for a shock death storyline, Statesman's a good choice, and it took me by surprise (Just because he's the most well known).

For the character himself? He seems a bit over used, in that he's mentioned all over the place, and he's got so many clones. (Imperious, Tyrant, Reichsman, likely a billion others). Other heroes don't have that much exposure, and even then, it's that in every timeline and every dimension, he's always the most important person.

If he wasn't being written out, I'd suspect that the Rikti are lead by War Chief M'cus C'ol, the Battalion was lead by StatesAlien and that Lord Nemesis turned out to be a senile Cole from the future, having lost his marbles from travelling too far back in time.

And cut and dried flame my post when your paying 1 mil for iron in 3 months.
Broadcast and local are two seperate channels. Free players get access to Help, Local and Team. If you limited free players anymore, you'd start losing potential paying customers. The ignore for spammage system really is the best option, short of a GM going all draconian and banning IP's/accounts of sellers and even buyers. I think the EULA allows for it, but if it did happen, they'd be outrage from unaffected, legitimate players (as humans like to complain about something).

A while back (just after the last DXP Weekend), Rubies were selling for over 1 million each. It had nothing to do with companies selling inf, it was because of me experimenting with the market and driving the price to ridiculous amounts for a couple of days. Inf sellers aren't in WW to affect salvage prices, they're their because it's a guaranteed area for traffic. High prices are due to people with too much time on their hands, or people with no patience.

If Iron was selling for 1 million, I'd cash in AE tickets on common salvage rolls (Average cost is 36 tickets, I think) and profit from it with hardly any effort.

Dual Pistols, Demon Summoning, Electric Control and Kinetic Melee were all part of Going Rogue.

By my calculations, if you didn't spend your stipends on fluff items/things that would have been booster-worthy or things which didn't exist before (extra inventory slots/costumes/etc), then you should have roughly enough points to purchase all three actual powersets. If you think we should get the power sets free, I don't think we should get a stipend.
  18. Fortunata?

In order of preference for mine, it'd be Fort, mind/psy(/mace) domi, kin/psy fender (only single target attacks), mind/kin troller, mind/mental blaster.

The Fort's nuke doesn't crash, and she's tough, too. The domi can solo TF's, but feels really slow against some mobs.

Odd, my Dark/Dark(/Dark) 'fender has soloed the ITF*, numerous AV's, even late 20's flashbacks. Soloed all the Ouroboros badges, too. I usually play like a lockful scrapper, charging off to solo crowds whilst the rest of the team goes in the other direction. She's not superb for damage, but she's not slow either.

*(During Issue 19.5, with Cardiac Alpha as an incarnate, the only thing stopping a Mo was that I had to drop a shivan/HVAS on the Nictus Rommie, as my fluffy wouldn't stick to one target).
  20. Electric/Empathy/Mu 'Troller.

Aside from the 1 damage power at the beginning (Tesla Cage, lower DPS), you can pick up another 4 non damage powers. Empathy does nothing to affect mobs, so take everything.

Mu Mastery, for Power Sink to add to the sapping abilities, Charged Armor and Surge of Power to make you tougher.

Leadership Pool (the whole thing). That leaves 3 powers for travel. I'd say Hasten, Super Speed and the upcoming Burnout (or Whirlwind for laughs).

There's room for Hold, Confuse and Sleep Purples, 3 places for LotG's, as well as plenty of places for 5% bonuses (Heal and End Mod). Slot Tesla Cage with 4 parts of Basilisk's Gaze (least recharge possible to keep the DPS as low as possible). For a quick throw together build, with Spiritual Core, I had perma-hasten. Ageless would help get your powers up faster and get other team members attacking more.

You should be able to 'solo' too, using Synaptic Overload (stacking on bosses if necessary), whilst still doing no direct damage yourself. It'd be slow, but possible. There's nothing, in my opinion, that is 'impossible' to solo. Even completely unslotted it could still make some progress.

That said, you could actually take the attacks from Electric Control, and still do hardly any damage without have -res in the secondary, compared to other sets. My Elec/Rad is depressingly slow to solo, despite the debuff heavy secondary.
  21. Did I mention it also has machine guns and missiles? That'd make for another power in the pool.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WpH1yMGxh5E

Heck, I'd be happy if one of the pool powers was just a toggle that played the theme tune..
