Which AT for my Psi based character

I'm thinking of rolling up a ranged psi based ranged character and was wondering what the board's opinion is as to which AT would be the best choice. I tend to build my characters more around theme rather than number crunching. For example I was messing around in Mids trying to find a descent build that only used Force Blast, Telekinetic Blast, Psionic Tornado, Psychic Scream and Psychic Shockwave as it's main attacks as I don't really like the animations for most of the psi attacks.

Mind/Psi dom maybe?

They ALL float down here. When you're down here with us, you'll float too!

Fortunata?

In order of preference for mine, it'd be Fort, mind/psy(/mace) domi, kin/psy fender (only single target attacks), mind/kin troller, mind/mental blaster.

The Fort's nuke doesn't crash, and she's tough, too. The domi can solo TF's, but feels really slow against some mobs.

One of my mains is a Mind/Psi Dom and well...she felt mega powerfull out of the box. I say give that a go.

Also it's super easy and not that expensive to get perma dom on a Mind/Psi

Thanks for the responses. I think I' going to try a Fortunata build. I also like the Mind/Psi Dominator, but only if I could make it viable without using Mesmerize, Confuse/Mass Confuse, Hypnosis or Terrify. I know they are pretty much must have powers, but they don't fit the thee for the character concept. If I do manage to figure out a descent build I'll post it here. Since i mainly play solo/small teams PvE it might be okay.

If you can drop Psychic Shockwave, a Psi Corruptor would fit pretty well too. I have a Psi Blast/Dark Corruptor I enjoy. I went the Cardiac route with him and now when he plays incarnate trials, he can pretty much ignore death patches, because he can shoot from 120 ft away with all attacks.

Maybe a Psi/Time Corruptor would fit your concept?

Personally I wouldn't play a Mind Dom and skip the powers you listed.

What about gravity control as a telekinetic sort of character?

Then if you want a more defensive build go Grav/FF/Psi or a more offensive go Grav/Psi/somethingorother on a dominator.

Like _EU suggested I'd go fortunata, esp if you want a thematic all-around "I'm a master of psionics" kind of toon. You'd have a good starting point for a ranged character with softcapped defenses to positionals and a killer status toggle, but in addition you can also have 45% psi defense and capped 85% psi resistance.

So not only would you be a potent psionic wielder, you will be able to effectively laugh off any psionic NPC that happens to challenge your abilities.

I quite like my Fortunata as well, although do be aware that you'll spend your first 23 levels as a Blood Widow, without psychic attacks.

I haven't played my Fort for a while but I took her out yesterday for MoM and man, does she survive well!

I forgot how well Fortunata survives (been playing Blasters lately). Widow probably has the best psionic defense/resistance in the game. MoM has tons of nasty psionic damage and Mind Link offers 30% psi resistance for the team!

Yeah, I would total go for Fortunata if I want a psi-based character.

What's left is to normalize all Assassin Strikes and improve Stalker's old sets (Claw, MA and EM)! You don't need to bring back the missing PbAoE attack. You just need to make the existing ones better! For example, make Slice a WIDER and LONGER cone.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. My main hesitation on rolling with a widow is having to do the first 20 levels or so red side. I don't usually like to play in the Isles. But, in the end it seems to be the best overall fit for my theme, so I went that route. So far I'm enjoying her. I have her up to level 12 at the moment.

I'd wait until they fix Grav in I22 though before devoting a lot of time to one. My Grav/Time Controller is camping at 27 until they make the changes.

I asked this same question a couple months ago. I've tried blaster, dominator, and widow, and have settled on widow - it's most what I want in a psychic character, and I've given her a background that includes being suckered in by Arachnos and then figuring her way out to a more heroic life, which suits me fine.

the great thing about COX is the vast amount of love they have given to psifans. telepaths to teleporters we just love our masters of the mind. My personal fave is the Talents series by the late and great Anne Mcaffrey which started with The Rowan. The dragons of Pern where also some pretty well rounded psionic beings.

My personal fave is my psi/ment blaster bentley berkeley on virtue. You want to see what its capable of come look me up there anytime. As far as sets go its my fave blaster combo ever and I havent wanted to use another blaster set since.

I feel very X-Man like with the build I have to be honest. So although I know alot diss it, dont discount the psi blaster as a valid option for a psi concept character.

I've been on trials with Bentley and watched him rack up the defeats. I'm leveling a psi blaster myself at the moment, and first of all enjoying not having a lot of toggles to track! Nor Domination to track - I'm one of those players who does badly remembering to firing off things on the scale of a couple of minutes, for whatever reason. But the palette of powers in psi blast and mental manipulation really is pretty nifty.
