I've said this several times before on similar threads but one of the best PvP experiences I ever had on this game was when Recluse's Victory was on the test server. I guess that makes it the beta test for I7. All existing characters were wiped and new characters were given enough XP and Inf to level up to 40 and equip it with SOs.
While it took a few minutes to set up, once you got in to RV you would see all kinds of powersets being used. There is no need to worry about having a flavor of the month since anyone could turn around and make one for themselves in a manner of minutes.
IOs had not been released yet. There were no I-13 mechanics that made PvP different than PvE. No one had multi-billion builds filled with procs. That placed everyone on relatively equal footing as far as build. What was left was inspiration usage, teammates, skill, and luck to determine winners and losers.
People weren't emotionally attached to their characters since they had just made them. So being predator or prey didn't seem to matter as much. There was some banter but I didn't hear any of the over-the-top trash talking.
And since it was something new there were lots of people buzzing about.
That brief little window in time is the closest I have seen to balance in CoH PvP. -

Quote:This is the first time I've heard about this. Is this why we can no longer have base raids? I thought part of the I13 revamp was to make base raids "better" but Castle didn't have time to finish it.Well, we already have that to a degree with the customization options in the Arena.
As to the other idea, we did something like that: Supergroup/Villaingroup bases. It almost melted the servers.
More info, please. -
Regarding trash talking in PvP zones:
While it is true that some PvP players did and do engage in trash-talking, I have to say that some of the most hate-filled, nasty, and vile text that floated across my screen in PvP zones came not from the PvPers but from the players who were killed in their attempt to get a badge.
I understand being frustrated and I understand venting. And I am not accusing anyone in this thread of doing so because I honestly don't know if you did or didn't engage in such invective. But one who gets killed in a PvP zone who then hurls insults should not be surprised to get the insults hurled back and to have the vultures circling for a chance to get another bite in. -

Quote:I used to consider myself a casual PvPer. I never really built characters for PvP but I was able to bring what I had and be somewhat competitive. I was even on winning Pentad and a 3x3 PvP competition teams.i13.
I PvP'ed a ton from i7-i13, but i13 really killed it for me. People who haven't pvp'd before i13 won't really know how bad they made it, but if you did pvp prior to the changes, you'd see just how much better it was back then.
i13 sapped out so much of the fun, so much of the skill, so much of the diversity, the strategy, and the intenseness of matches. Not to mention that you could actually make pvp toons with pvp builds that would actually semi-function in pve also, now? Now it's just a mess, if you try pvping with a pve build or vice versa, it will fail, this also really hurt the ability for new pvpers to really get into pvp.
The mess they made of pvp with i13 was compounded by the fact that the developers at that time refused to take player input, refused to make changes, refused to revert to the old system, and overall refused to admit that they made a mistake.
I also used to sponsor Monday Night Fights on Justice where I would mess with different settings like fighting at different levels, without travel powers, last man standing, etc. I only had one rule: no trash-talking. Doing so would get you kicked out of future matches.
Justice used to have a nice little PvP community. Sure we had a few jerks but the vast majority were helpful to new PvPers. There were frequent PvP events with prizes offered by the organizers.
After I13 all of that died. Many Justice PvPers quit. The ones that remained moved to Freedom. I tried to PvP under the new rules a few times but my characters were drastically changed and I felt that I could no longer just walk in to a PvP zone on any character. It stopped being fun. -
Where is the Wretch Strike Force? All the Patron side-kicks get their own Strike Force -- Ice Mistral, Barracuda, Silver Mantis . . . but no Wretch!
Why you make Wretch sad? -
Among his other qualities, Sam is also proud. I sent him a set of mako's and touch of death and he sent them back. I think he wants to learn how to do it and how much effort it takes, even though he doesn't like it.
I can appreciate that. -
I'd actually like to see an attorney argue this case.
Quote:Well, you see judge, my client pays to play this online superhero game. And then he bought this thing in the superhero game for even more money that was supposed to make him even more super. And it turns out the thing made him a lot more powerful at first, but then they changed it so he is only a little more powerful. -
Only if they yell "DINGOS!" with the same passion and conviction that the original cast yelled "WOLVERINES!"
-
If you can take down Hamidon or successfully complete a Mothership raid then you should be able to take down a Rikti drop ship. Sylph Knight led a few of these on Justice and we dropped several.
I think it deserves a badge. -
Quote:It was, indeed, Catwhoorg. It might have been. It was definitely someone who I think of as a regular face in old-school Scrapper discussions.
-
Quote:Damn those devs, they failed again! If the devs intended Stalkers to be defensively weaker than Scrappers on average, they did not do an especially good job.
Quote:I remember a discussion with someone a long time back who came up with D/R/R* values for all the major powersets. (It was, somewhat ironically, part of a debate about whether or not Stalkers should have their MaxHP cap increased.) I recall that Ninjitsu had one of the highest values of all the sets at the time.
I presume that would remain true if it was ported to Scrappers and/or Brutes, though it would lose Hide's +defense along the way.
* Defense/Resistance/Regen is a synthetic value related to immortality line. It's your average HP recovery (both regen and heals) divided by your average damage admittance. It represents the maximum average damage/sec you can face without ever dying. -

Oh, I didn't realize that the Hybrid assault tree worked like defiance. That would push me more towards support if I was torn between the two unless the +dam buff from assault was MUCH greater.

Oh oh! Someone just called out an evil lizard lawyer and demanded proof.
*Gets comfy*
I hope this show is good. -
Quote:*Leagle Fleagle confidently enters the room** angles bare lightbulb
Where were you on the evening the Devs tested Regen on a server with no purple patch?
I am advising my client not to answer any more questions. You may, if you wish, present your questions to me, in writing, and specifying with particularity the dates and times in question. We will then respond, if appropriate.
Now, unless you are charging him, my client and I are leaving.
*Legal Fleagle exits, leaving a hint of his cologne lingering in the air* -
Quote:So if I am on an ITF and use LFG Team up teleporter to start an STF, when we get enough people to join I am whisked out of Cimerora or a Cimerora instance map and get teleported to Statesman in Independence Port? Even if we are in the middle of the ITF? That can't be right.
Team-Up Teleporter
* * * *
Players will now be properly teleported to the contact from inside a mission map or on another task force when starting a task force via the Team-up Teleporter.
Am I reading this wrong, is this a typo, or are we entering the Twilight Zone? -

Quote:If this is true, I propose that we allow Confront to take the Panacea set, since it is the cure to all ailments.Confront can prevent a team wipe, save someone who is at a distance and pretty much help make everything doable no matter what the team make up.
Then, when a scrapper uses Confront slotted with a full Panacea set he can not only save the team but see a tangible result of that Confrontation increasing his hit points.

I've never taken it on scrappers, sometimes on brutes, always on tanks.
-
It's all good, man. Just sit back and watch the fireworks. -
Quote:I think that a tanker without taunt is foolish, even though you can "tank" without one. Brutes I am split on -- I don't feel that it is required nor do I feel it is a wasted power pick. But for scrappers, unless it is specifically designed as a PvP scrapper or frequently is called upon to be the tank, then I do think that there were better powers to choose."Jack of all trades, master of none,
Certainly better than a master of one"
One of my Scrappers has Confront, Manuevers, Assault, Tactics and Vengeance and a solid attack chain.
Another of my Scrappers has Confront, Grant Cover.
Power pools have always been there. Confront has always been there. The rules that players must follow have never been there.
But the beauty of this game is that I make my characters to play my way and you play yours to play your way. Both will be able to play and enjoy the game with great success.
