I'm in full support of this idea. I think it'll restore a little of the goodwill that they lost by doing this.
In regards to the concerns about the RMT spammers, I don't think it'd be an issue. They know that a dead game holds no profit and at this point, City of Heroes is dead. They won't be an issue, but if they are there are ways to block them quite easily. There's an option to only allow mail from friends/supergroup members, plus you can hide yourself from searches which will limit random RMT tells unless they're in the same zone as you. -
When they can do that ON THE LAPTOP alone, then it'll be impressive. Rendering the frames on 4 other computers and sending them to the laptop to be displayed makes the laptop nothing more than a glorified monitor.
Not to say the idea itself isn't pretty cool. Done properly it'd bring a whole new level of graphical quality to gaming. I don't expect there to be consumer processors capable of handling stuff like that for at least 10 years and gaming companies probably won't use the tech for at LEAST another 5 after that. -

I think I had this same problem Monday night. My screen would flash/flicker black almost constantly. Only way to have it not happen was to stay completely stationary. Odd thing was that Monday afternoon, no problems. It got me so frustrated I did a full reboot of my computer and no more problems.

If I could tell a "noob" one thing...it's this: be a newb, not a noob. But you made this thread so you're off to a good start.
If I could tell a "noob" a second thing...it's this: don't be this guy.
But no seriously, the advice you're getting in this thread is just about perfect. Just a couple additions.
Don't be afraid to team with lower level people, you will keep all powers up to 5 levels higher than you drop to. Though most teams in this case would ask you to get missions so that's not a problem most of the time anyway.
While even the basic IOs can be quite pricey at times they will save you lots of inf in the long run since they never "go red". Some people will say to wait until mid-high 30s for IOs, but 99.999% of the time they're referring to IO sets and not just the basic IOs.
From what I read, this next one might be redundant but here it is anyhow. Don't feel you need to rush through levels. Just because there's an "end game" doesn't mean it's any better than the content in the previous 50 levels. Every one of us has probably seen at least one person at level 50 who doesn't even know how their basic powers work because they got powerlevelled to 50.
Above all, have fun and remember the one and ONLY rule to City of Heroes gaming: If it moves, shoot/punch it til it stops twitching.
edit: one last thing, remember, Dark Armor Sucks. -
I was actually wondering this exact same thing. I went out and bought a gamecard on Saturday the 24th and applied it when I got home. My renewal date was Sunday the 25th. No reward token(s), no Paragon Points. I double checked my account page to verify that I did put it in right and everything looks fine.
edit: nevermind about the reward tokens, just logged in and those are there waiting, but no PPs. Perhaps they changed when those are given out and forgot to tell us? -

Watch for it next week, Paragon Studios announces a new pvp-only powerset where you get stronger with each unique kill in pvp zones. As an added feature you get extra damage/defense for a short duration if you yell "There can be only one!" into broadcast as you inflict the killing blow. You heard it here first!

You wanna talk about epic hair, you need to talk to this guy.

The one thing everyone should know about CoH is this: it's the GOOD superhero MMO.
It may not be the prettiest one out there but to people who really care about a game, there's FAR more than shiny graphics.

General Grevious was the prototype for Vickie huh?

Anyone else find it funny that the number of likes and dislikes is over double the number of views?

Quote:Yes, a baseball cap is a fine addition to ANY soldier's uniform!TF2 is a War-Themed Hat simulator and CoH is a Superhero-Themed Clothing Simulator.
I mean, you go look at the Hats section of the TF2 wiki and most of the hats there are things you'd expect to see in a Bugs Bunny cartoon. Not that I'd mind seeing more headwear in CoH, just that a lot of it might not quite fit the theme the devs have for costume parts. Maybe not 'theme', but can't think of the right word. Basically most of the TF2 hats are VERY silly and as we all know, being a super hero/villain is srs bsns.

What about how part of a trial team gets crashed out immediately and can't rejoin? Or was that fixed already and I'm just behind the times?

Quote:The thinking behind the people who think this type of thing just boggle my mind. Lemme clarify, I agree with the whole post, just commenting on the last bit of this part. I saw this a lot on another game's forum where there were a lot of bugs and broken gameplay. After a new patch that introduced uniforms, off-duty clothes and other fluff items, people whined and complained that instead of that "the devs" should work on fixing the broken stuff. Of course, the art team needs to focus on bug fixing! Hear that art team? Go. Hunt. Fix bugs!2)Some seem upset that this new trial is, well, essentially a trial, with 16 people required minimum to run it, rather than having this half issue (I think that's the right term) concentrate on other things (Honestly, I'm not sure what the ones expressing this view wanted done in particular, but I've seen everything from fixing bugs to making new costumes, so, take your pick there).
Another part I fully agreed with was part 1 (I think?) where it was mentioned that the Keyes trial isn't just a smash-n-grab. That's a GOOD thing! We have enough content where you just go in and steamroll through and curbstomp a boss or two. Something like this requires a little in the way of strategy. Also having healing be a bigger part in a team situation in the higher levels is a nice change from just tossing around def/resist buffs and punching things til they stop twitching. -
Soon(tm)? 'When they're done'? Valve-time?

Quote:While this comment is about a week old, THIS would help solve a lot of the problems with the team search window. I barely knew what the colors meant before when there were only 3 or 4. Now that there's something like double that I have no idea what someone in the search listing is up to. A legend would be nice, or maybe some text pops up when you move your cursor over the color.Really the single biggest problem with the team window is the complete lack of a legend detailing just what the various colors mean. As far as I know the only way to find out what color means what is to search the forums... there's nothing in game (that I've seen) to tell you. That makes the "color code" nearly as worthless as the aforementioned "origin" search.
I never remember what all the color codes mean; yeah light blue means solo and gray means teamed... that's unchanged from the beginning. I do remember that purple means team lead but if they're tossing that info at players they REALLY need to let them know what it means. -
Not really, it answers the question posed in the thread title exactly. If the question was 'are there any plans to look at pvp in the foreseeable future?' then you might have (haha yeah right!) gotten a different answer. But since the question asked about before CoH Freedom the answer is quite straightforward.

Quote:This is why I have binds set for each teammate. Press a button, buff/heal/etc. Rarely if ever do I misfire. Only happens if I'm not paying attention and trying to buff too fast or didn't realize that the person I tried to target is for whatever reason untargettable. In such cases, the person before them gets double bubbles.Yes, playing kinetics I also approve of Null the Gull because it's not easy to prevent yourself from accidentally SBing a "Waah! Don't SB me!" person in the middle of a huge melee if you cannot use the team bars to target all the time. This way everyone should be happy and you can still buff your team for END and recharge without having someone scream bloody murder at you because he ran between you and your target and got SBed by mistake. I really appreciate the devs' work on this.

Only if they're tanks...
...or blasters.
Personally, I'll go with 'hey who wants to join a team' and avoid anything even remotely close to the term 'noob', since it's often been linked to a mostly derogatory connotation involving some fool who refuses to learn and thinks they know EVERYTHING. -
Didn't they say something a while back about not wanting to put in silly weapons? Now we get ridiculously oversized swords and railroad crossing signs. I demand Swordfish Melee now or at least a giant plastic squeaky mallet.
As has been pointed out above, chainsaw swords are not limited to only one IP so we could have them here as well but you'll need a good name. I suggest... 'Razor Blade'. Then we could even make barber villains. "Just a little off the top? Okay! *slash!* Hrm, maybe a little TOO much. *cue villainous laughter*"
*sings* Shave and a haircut...

Quote:What's funny about this is that back when a certain semi-mmo-ish game involving an invasion from Hell via 'gates' into London came out, someone made a (parody of course) picture of the "differences" between elite and free players. One of these differences was that elite players were allowed to use free players as mounts. We've already established that you won't be able to ride free players.
Just wish I could find that again, scoured Google for a couple hours looking the other day.
