Is this one of those people who are famous for being famous? I think I'm showing my age...

No, actually she became famous for not being famous.

For her birthday, she got a music video done at a production studio, just pretty much a fun song she sang and some production work. She posted the video on youtube [prolly for her friends and to just share it in general] and it went viral.

She got national exposure, and other fun stuff. This is a link to her second video, which looks like it's done in the same manner/light, and actually kinda cute reference to the first video's viral rise to fame.

It's [this should be It won't, me crazy] catapult the same way her first video did, but it's actually pretty decent, given that it's just something she's doing for fun.

Dropping thousands of dollars to get a pop video made for your teenagers birthday doesn't really strike me as something people do "for fun"

If I remember the stories right, they did the vanity studio package because no legitimate studios, agents, or producers thought she was good.

Let's put it this way. There's a reason her voice is synthed to hell and back.

2000$ I believe.

And I'm sure you're aware of folks spending more than 2000$ on a children's birthday . Especially in New York.

As a sidenote though, I'd suggest listening to pop music. Everyone's voice [including people who really don't need their voice 'smoothed' out] is oversynthed, it's unfortunate, but it's seen as a stylistic choice.

But you know what. Sure, she went to a vanity studio to make a music video. It went viral. That's why she's 'famous'. Her voice was oversynthed, the song was trite.

Her first video was inane. It got famous for its inanity.

Now she's trying to parley the accidental infamy into a career.... <shudder>

"Remember how you said I was nothing, well now I'm going to prove you wrong..."

Wow. What a really aggressive jerk way to start a video. That will *really* win me over!!

Yeah, auto-tuning is common. But that was *bad* auto-tuning. Close your eyes and stop being mesmerized by the collagen inflated lips and listen to the poorly tuned tuning.

Although, I will admit: Having her friend who was mercilessly teased for having no rhythm (the one sitting on the back seat of the car with her) fake-playing a guitar was hilarious.

Eh, it's not as annoying as the Friday song. But that's not saying much. I find most of what actual modern pop stars do to be pretty bland/annoying, and most of them have actual talent of some sort.

In my opinion, it's just as bad as Friday musically, but it's not so bad it's funny-bad lyrically like Friday was.

So, this IS the "Friday" girl? I was wondering that when I watched it the first time.

in all seriousness, I had the opposite reaction.

To me it's a lot better than Friday from a musical perspective. I was not reaching for a ToddintheShadows plushie to point out where my ears had been assaulted.

but on the lyrical front... *shudders*

They're both better than the valcano taco bell comericials. On the flip side, i don't think I'll ever hear them on my preferred radio station.

The second one I might recall later - it's kinda blah to me. Friday though... I'll pass on the music, and the visuals were worse, I think. I understand it was done at a vanity studio, but whoever did her make up needs to go back to school, for one.

What's the big deal? She's a teenage girl who wants to be famous, just like--well, just like most teenage girls. She's trying to do it in the way our culture is showing teenage girls how to be famous, and she seems to be having some measure of success in doing so.

Do I like her music? Not particularly, but I have heard MUCH more foul on the radio waves. Anyone who has lived through the age of crap metal doesn't really have much room to criticize her musically. Anyone who has lived through the age of crap gangsta rap doesn't really have much room to criticize her lyrically.

If she really is just enjoying her 15 minutes of fame, then good for her! Why all the peeing on her parade? Are you jealous? Let her do what she does, wish her luck, and move on to the stuff you like. Her music doesn't aim to make my ears bleed, her lyrics don't make me want to go out and shoot cops, so I wish her much success.
