Are there any plans to look at PVP before "COH: Freedom" launches?
You know the answer to this question.
Be well, people of CoH.
I don't PVP, I'm not going to PVP. They could redo PVP to hand out $ 20 bills* and I wouldn't be interested in PVP.
But I strongly, strongly think they should consider going over it for Freedom. I think the PVP community is right - I think it CAN be a Very Big Thing.
Can we get there from here? I have no idea. Ask them.
* - That's an exaggeration. I'd play it if it paid me in $ 20 bills. As long as they were crispy-folded and non-sequential.
Why?
Seriously, the Devs asked us what we would like for PvP and then gave us what they wanted.
Now it doesn't exist. If pressed on the matter they just say we are looking at changes - no literally they posted some changes on the wall and look at them occasionally.
Just asking because an influx of new players would no doubt bring with it people interested in PVP. Might be a good idea to remove/fix things like heal decay, travel suppression, and the various pvp bug still in the game from Issue 13.
Who knows...it could reinvigorate the PVP community! If ever there was a time to do it...now is certainly that time! Especially as your average PVPer tends to want to just kit out his character as quickly as possible. (Even though they'd play for free...they'd be hitting up the cohstore like maniacs.) |
Not to put too fine a point on it but:
Any questions?
It's possible they could do something - they've said that they've not announced all the stuff in I21 yet, as they're wanting to focus at first on the new free-to-play options and the other non-gamepaly related changes.

The Devs care as much about PvP as they do about giving Faathim a cellphone, which is between 0 and .1.
Even if they did redo PvP, they probably would just ignore anything we have to say yet again.
It's very doubtful there will be any significant changes to PvP now and in the future (IMO). The devs seem focused on generating content at this point and not revamping a system that goes unused and unnoticed by the majority of the population. Again, my opinion.

I do believe it's been stated in the past that the reason Faathim didn't get a cell-phone is that there was no in-game Lore explanation for how a signal would get out of the Prison. Remember that in the canon-lore Faathim uses the prison as a shield against the rest of Rularuu who constantly assault the structure.
It was a nice try at a straw-argument though, I'll give you that.
Hey all,
There are no plans for significant updates to PVP prior to Issue 21.
Thanks!

This was my reaction as well seeing the title. I'm sure they will hop on those base changes as well.

With the devs limiting "pay to win" features, PvP is a much smaller potential cash stream.
With the Paragon Market emphasizing cosmetic rather than practical items, player housing is always going to have a higher priority than PvP for developer attention.

this system as it is designed makes it almost impossible to balance ATs against each other sufficiently for all ATs to have reasonably equivalent odds in PvP, the entire reason for the difficulty system was that some ATs had more trouble than others dealing even with PvE on their own
rather than mucking about and trying(failing) to reach a pretty much mythical PvP balance, they are better off creating an entirely new game with an entirely new engine and class set up set in the CoH multiverse, possibly where rewards from one could be carried over to the other.
maybe closer to what their Auto Assault was, but without the cars

Don't go getting people's hopes up unnecessarily. But yes, I noticed the way that was worded, too.

And I highly doubt we'll see any "In" or "Shortly after," either. The rework PVP would need is big enough - "strike teams" aside - that it'd have to be a major issue feature, and I'd think they have enough on their plate with 21 (and the immediate aftereffects.)
It's a safe bet that PvP will never get looked at again. The game is likely to be shut down first.

Then someone will go "Huh. That's still there? Who knew?"
(Admittedly there's the occasional redname getting ganged up on in the zones, possibly in arena, but that's about it.)

There are no plans for significant updates to PVP ever. Thanks! - Z |
